Nooners, enthralled with the Marine Corps’ routine investigation of the fatal F-18 crash in San Diego, quotes a Marine who’s unhappy with the ways of Obama Washington.
…when the economy came crashing down, "nowhere did we see a board come out and say: ‘This is what happened, these are the decisions these particular people made, and this was the result. They are no longer a part of our organization.’ There was no timeline of events or laymen’s explanation of how a credit derivative was actually derived. We did not see congressmen get on television with charts and eviscerate their organization and say, ‘These were the men who in 2003 allowed Freddie and Fannie unlimited rein over mortgage securities.’ Instead we saw . . . everybody against everybody else with no one stepping forth and saying, ‘We screwed up…’" There is no one in national leadership who could convincingly "assign blame," and no one "who could or would accept it."
This of course is true, but somehow more stinging when said by a serviceman.
It is true. When there are national disasters of this magnitude, it is the government’s obligation to hold hearings to figure out who screwed up and hold them accountable.
Except when a Republican is president.
Hearings Won’t Make Us Safe
The hearings should not have been held, for one reason: Our country at this moment in history should not be focusing time and attention on who made mistakes and why and when. Not that these things don’t matter; they do, desperately, and history will be full of the story. But we have a war to fight, a country to protect, and that is what should have precedence.
And PS, 9/11 wasn’t Bush’s fault.

Hasn’t someone dropped a house on this hypocritical witch of the east yet?
I’ll believe her when she’s calling out Fuld and Stanford and other guys of the fraternity of illgotten gains.
It is true. When there are national disasters of this magnitude, it is the government’s obligation to
hold hearings to figure out who screwed up and hold them accountable.ask Marines and plumbers what went wrong.I was just about to take the bait, but this is too easy.
She, like Limbaugh, need to move offstage.
The election results (not to mention current polls) are in: You lost!
Now, go away and count your ill-gotten gains from the last eight years.
Shorter Noonan: It’s the fault of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, solely and exclusively.
Commission over.

Now can we please hold hearings on Katrina? Still so many homeless people, so many families waiting for insurance companies to do the right thing.
Exactly. Apparently she didn’t see this. jon stewart should get a public service award.
Oh I’m sure Pegs completely understands all of the intricacies of what went wrong and that we can count on her to get a well-researched report./s
Since facts and figures won’t be forthcoming, she’ll stick to the mast of the ‘trigger emotions and the facts won’t matter’ ship she’s been sailing in the Media Hype Regatta.
Redheads sunburn easily, right?
and Gramm
and Clinton
heh
Barney Frank dated a dude who worked for Fannie or Freddie fifteen years ago, for about six months. That’s all you really need to know about the current financial crisis, America.
Also, poor people bought houses
in neighborhoods they didn’t belongthey couldn’t afford.GOP-er History 101.
George W. Bush was handed an economic recession by Bill Clinton.
Barack Obama caused the economic recession that began with over a year left to the Bush presidency.

AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Blue Texan:
JEEzus, didn’t that crazy witch melt in last Spring’s rain? My God, I hope the fascist’s estimation of the intelligence of the common American is wrong…’cuz it’s clear they think we can’t remember beyond yesterday fer Christ’s sake!!
I think it’s clear that the oligarchy has taken the money they’ve stolen from the treasury and are now underwriting the “new” Democratic Party…they were so successful with Clinton and Tony Blair that they are tryin ta move K-Street into 1600 and they’ve got a good start with Rahm Tiny Dancer Emmanuel runnin a full court trap on the House Democrats.
God, will this nightmare never end??!!!
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, ALL THEY’VE GOT IS WHATEVER MONEY THEY HAVEN’T LOST YET!!!
Ohn no, no, no. The angle that Noonan is taking is that it is Dodd and Frank. Not dear Phil Gramm. He’s a Republican, how DARE you insinuate.

I hear ya. Did you ever see the movie Outbreak with Dustin Hoffman and the evil Donald Sutherland who didn’t want to save anybody, just drop bombs on them to wipe out the virus? That’s what I think of when I see that photo of Bush on Air Force One looking at NOLA…
That’s RIGHT!! Did you see the Times poll about a week or so ago on who’s to blame for the mess? Phil Gramm got the most votes by FAR. That’s ahead of bank CEOs and the others listed.
That’s Phil “It’s all in your head” Gramm, cozy pal of John Sydney McCain III, my friends. Stick that in your earmark.
Imagine how much worse things would be now if McCain and the Palins were in power now.
So true, and yet I’d bet my right arm the Dow would be higher.
That would be because Phil “the Turtle” Gramm would be back in business, hauling out whatever was left to steal from the treasury.
fine.. I agree. We will expect Nooners to line up rethug congressional support behind legislation to hold hearings on the shrub depression. Let’s subpeona each and every shrubco looter (no use immunity or anything like that) and force ‘em to admit precisely how they and their buddies pillaged the treasury for 8 years. Then we prosecute ‘em all.
so peggy, mccain said during the campaign that he knew where osama is. why doesn’t he tell us?
uhn huh….true.
wonder who’s the wingman on that flight.
To expect consistency or deductive reasoning from a freakshow like Noonan is to expect blood from a stone: ain’t gonna happen.
speaking as former marine flyboy .. i hope they sanction the pilot .. no one should ever fly an ejection-seat-equipped crippled bird over an area of population .. period .. that’s just common sense ..
Jane’s new post–>>
dang try again
New post
Yeah, it’s pretty obvious she’s not serious about this.
Fortunately, some people really are concerned with restoring law, however.
She is the mental twin of Bill Kristol. And those two lobes don’t make up one half-wit’s brain.
Jesus, don’t pundit’s know that they have a written track record which is easily reasearched? It was even easily researched in the day of card catalogues, the Dewey Decimal System, and micro-fische.
Don’t these twits know that they are a “google” away from any prior column they wrote?
Novelist’s who write sequel’s have to make sure of continuity; so do film and theatre director’s. Don’t pundtwit’s have to have some degree of continuity, too?
I guess not. They figure that to their reader’s, every day is Ground Hog Day…
For some writers there is soooo much great material for books if they just read public materials of the last 15 years. The 9/11 story is huge and the housing bubble story which has led us here is also huge. It IS an amazing time in history.
I saw a comic some time ago which sarcastically asked who didn’t KNOW the stock market was going to climb so long as Baby Boomers had a dollar to put into it AND after that it was going to bust and drop like a rock. Now it’s happened and apparently a lot of people ARE surprised. How’s that possible?
Well, here we are. It climbed from about 1982 through 2001 and then leveled off. The Bushies tried to get Social Security funds put in too, but people said “No”. Bushies also created the Housing Bubble and found a way to force it to bust before he left office. Some said it happened too early, but I think they wanted to be certain it did bust, so they could reap all the rewards of buying up great stocks for pennies on the dollar.
Bushies also moved into gold a long time ago to avoid the crash. One would assume they’ve got ready cash now and can move into the market when Obama has the economy stabilized. I guarantee they’re banking on him fixing things, so they can take advantage.
Of course, Baby Boomers, both Dem and Repubs, have lost trillions and they’re looking for “The Guilty”. Naturally Repub commentators like Noonan will point their fingers at the nasty Massachussetts Liberal Democrats. It’s an easy allegation since their followers already believe people like Barney Frank are ‘the bad guys’. But, it just simply isn’t true and there’s plenty of evidence it was the ‘deregulators’ who pushed and pushed for it. Heck, the recent report lobbyists for Wall St. paid $5B to get it is pretty strong evidence it wasn’t Liberals pushing to destroy Capitalism.
I think the Republican party has been run hard and put aside wet and now they really don’t know whether to continue supporting the ‘party line’ which has got them here or try to find something new. They’ve been used and they’re too stupid to realize it. I wonder how much money Noonan or Limbaugh has lost in the stock market. Do they somehow think they’ve WON?
