Last night Barack Obama inspired hope and confidence in the American people in a time of crisis while the GOP sat on their hands and did a collective audition for Mean Girls II. Rising star Bobby Jindal proved himself the Steve Largent of our time.
Meanwhile, Republican governors who aren’t busy running for President who are trying to provide for their states are realizing that when it comes to actual governance, conservative ideology sucks:
Re: GOP: Bob, what do you make of the moves by some of the GOP governors lately, particularly Gov. Crist of Florida and Gov. Huntsman of Utah? Crist gave his public endorsement to the stimulus package, while Huntsman criticized Gov. Jindal for saying he wouldn’t take some of the stimulus money. Also, the governor of Utah came out in favor of civil unions. What do Republicans like Crist and Huntsman hope to accomplish within the party?
Robert G. Kaiser: I am intrigued by the fact that we obviously have two Republican Parties now–at least. One is the House Republican Party, a staunchly conservative outfit that has yet to digest its own fate or think through the implications of its serious defeats in 2006 and 2008. Some Senators line up with the hard-line House Republicans, but others don’t–hence the deal on the stimulus bill, made possible by three Republicans.
Then the governors, particularly the big-state governors like Crist and Arnold. They believe in government, and aren’t ashamed to say so. They realize (as polls confirm) that voters now expect government to govern. They are, I think, nervous about their party’s future if the House Republicans actually control the GOP.
Stay tuned. This is going to be an ongoing soap opera.
Barack Obama provided a vision of America as it could be to people who are suffering while Bobby Jindal was happy to demagogue Katrina and act like a proud pawn in a political game.
There’s a bit of a problem with the Republican Party — do you think those who provided endless stories about "Democrats in disarray" over the past eight years are going to notice?

Jindal jumped the shark last night.
Christ, Matt Groening couldn’t have drawn a funnier walk and recorded a cheesier voice over.
Jindaltastic fail.

Wasn’t it nice that the rethugs made sure America knows they are still clueless, mean-spirited asshats?
There… fixed it for ya! :)
Don’t let Jindal get away with not being responsible in any way for the last 8 years as Tweety suggested last night. Jindal was in the House for two years before being elected governor. He was running for Gov the whole time he was in the House. He was a Bush lackey and still is.
Jindal = Bush and don’t let the public forget it lest he be able to rehabilitate his image after last night’s failure.
To fair, Largent could catch. The only thing Rock Bobster ever caught was a cold.
Jindal goes on and on about his ethics reform but immediately after the legislation was passed several good govt organizations said publicly that the new regulations would actually make it easier for people to get away with corruption.
Ethics reform as window dressing. That is Bobby Jindal.
Put some butter on that prawn. He’s done.
Wait a minute: You mean Jindal was not doing a comedy routine?
I think Bobby just hurt the Fundy Side in the expected GOP civil war. I think Bobby was set up to fail.
GOP RIP.
Jindal was the Bush Administrations “Main Man” of Health Care Reform…we can see what happened in regards to THAT! Wonder if he was the one on the phone asking Michelle Malkin to go after the Frost kids?
On the other hand the economy is taking don the corporate wing of the GOP and their most important asset the extra Cash they spend on elections. Plus CEO’s are polling horrible and that hurts Mitt it hurts the GOP everytime they even bring up Business Issues which was one area voters used to trust them more.
I wonder who is hurting more in the polls Bobby and the Fundies or the Corporate wing of the GOP?
No. This has been another installment of short answers to important questions.
Jindal’s “performance” should be SNL gold.
On the contrary. It would appear that his utilization of Repug health care reform for a lobotomy worked very well…
No….silly question ;)
They ( those that provided endless stories) are as addicted to those memes about ‘democrats in disarray’ as the GOP is to the mantra of ‘tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts’…….they have nothing else and their mind is closed to any other possibility
from ZERO to POLITICALLY DEAD in 10 seconds
a new record for a repuglitard
Ron Paul just “blew up” CNBC. They had cut to what they thought was going to be the testimony of Bernanke before a Congressional Committee, and Barney Frank threw it to Ron Paul for a two-minute opening statement, which CNBC aired live at about 10:13 a.m. EST. Paul ripped the existing system, revealed the globalist’s plan for the pending international (single fiat currency) system which is set to replace the dollar system, and proclaimed that it will not work.
CNBC came back to the studio, where Mark Haynes said:
Get your hands on this video from CNBC. It reveals that the entire mainstream media game is rigged – by the bankers.
repuglitardplease, no!
Great Question? Is he a real Player did he give the order or was he just a face reading lines in that fight?
Neither answer works well for him and I don’t know implies he’s a face.
I won’t answer makes him look guilty after all going after kids in politics let alone setting Michelle Malkin after a kid is something parents can’t ignore.
If the GOP uses Bobby anymore we can bring that up and play the Malkin card to Moderate Voters.
Mr.
RogersJindal can stay away from my neighborhood.“…One is the House Republican Party, a
staunchlystenchy conservative outfit…”I’m just here to help.
I think you mean pranced the shark
man, the republicans called that entrance “dorky”…I think it was quite pristine
No no no Bobby exorcised himself of any SOUL! He did such a good job he exorcised his brain as well.
This why the Catholic Church insists that Priests do exorcisms… insurance reasons.
And of course the danger of creating a souls GOP Zombie.
hell, I thought it was his Junior Achievement® presentation
Bobby Jindfail.

I didn’t watch Jindal. Just couldn’t bear being body-slammed so soon after a pretty good Obama speech. If you were going to write a headline that clearly describes Jindal’s rejoinder . . . ???
Jane, you’re excused. You already did this exercise! *g*
jindal actually used their failed voucher program to make a point that does not exist.
when you start pointing to your failures to show what your party is capable of, that’s wearing shades a smidge too dark
Anybody check out the wingnut blogs to see how they’re handling the Jindal debacle?
His face must be rather ashen this Wednesday morn…
Thanks. I stand corrected.
Sorry my 24 reads
And of course the danger of creating a souls GOP Zombie.
it should read
And of course the danger of creating a soulless GOP Zombie.
Ahh.. the vision thing. When will Vitter reach his bottom? Is Bush drinking again? Will Jindal ever come clean?
bobby’s real name is piyush
someone on the live blog last night pointed that out but I forget who to give credit
piyush said the first thing he remembered was his father calling him “bobby”
I wonder why his father didn’t name him bobby if that’s what he was going to call him
Tweety’s “O God” mutterance may have been a prophetic utterance. It cracked me up. If people form their opinions contrary to the usual MSM junk food then we’re in for some serious populist eatin’. Prawns not pawns!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pawn_(chess)
TBogg distills it down to 3 minutes for ya – really, just go
and put down the beverages :D
Republican dead-enders like Jindal and Pawlenty have their whole wad bet on their dead-horse party.
It’s over guys, you can quit beating her, she won’t git up.
I wonder if they are buying Citigroup stock too?
I did, they are making the best of it, some calling him “dorkish” which is to say he couldn’t be feminant and a republican
some are saying they thought he was “consise” and that it was an informative speach, some are saying they hoped it would have more substance
some are saying “he’s no clinton and he’s no web”
true that
David “John” Vitter is the GOP’s point man on ethics.
Fail!
I said last night, the GOP has descended into such parody they should redub themselves The Colbert Party and have fun with it.

Well apparently “Piyush Ant” can catch money for his campaigns. Of course, he’s not above hypocritically doling out a little State and Federal tax-payers money in order to receive “consideration” from the businesses that benefit from “government largesse”.
http://www.2theadvocate.com/ne…..y&c=y
Kinda makes you wonder where the arguments about “government doesn’t help create jobs” suddenly were back when he was giving his buddies millions?
If his mind is not compartmentalized
does somebody have a clip of it”
I would love to hear that as he pranced into his entrance
if I were a republican I would compare his style to al gore and be done with it
Yeah. It all makes sense now. He’s clearly going places in JA. They might even make him Homeroom Captain.
oooh
I just came up with their sound bite if they were smart enough to use it;
“jindal sounds like al gore
lightright”Free Republic: guana loca enjoy !
Thanks. You saved my from dumpster diving.
“piyush”!
Gesundheit
His dad called him Bobby? Thats bull but it is the sort of thing we can use. The guy is ashamed of his name and wants to be white I think the nonwhite community knows that when they see it.
The GOP hopes Bobby will get them some cross over appeal when in fact he makes nonwhites ill.
Okay, I’ve only read the first sentence and I’m laughing like a hyena already! Stand by.
here ya go
I suspect that, like kids everywhere, they taunted him about his name. Everyone in childhood earns a nickname…mine was “Cockatoo” for my unruly hair (oh, how I wish I had that stuff now!)…another was “Bushwacker” (I later learned this was because of my crazy cross-country running style…jumping over bushes and streams).
I suspect the kids were calling him “Piyush-Ant”…
Pissant means a worthless, insignificant that has an inflated sense of worth. They are the smallest ants, but an ever-present nuisance spoiling the flavor of sugar with their urine-like secretions. Kind of fits Bobby, NO?
Thank you, teacher.
;)
So Clintonite Gary Locke is gonna be Commerce Sec? Unce, Tice, Fee Tines a Mady for Obama?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHiZ15×6Vt4
Not thrilled with his Clinton-esque background, but the ties to China could be helpful in keeping the relationship good with the people who own America right now, thanks to Repub rule and policies.
The rethugs at work seem a bit down in the mouth this morning. Poor tings!
Apparently some commentator at MSNBC said “Oh God!” when he made his arrival. It was audible before they cut to the microphone at the dais.
Maybe this link works?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHiZ15×6Vt4
per family lore, he was inspired by the Brady Bunch to choose Bobby
linky
Thanks. I almost never read the other side because it is so wacky. But from time to time one must do it, to be informed. I particularly liked the one who asseted that Clinton and the Ds were responsible for the deficit and how the Rs shouldn’t let Obama get away with saying he inherited it. Gotta be pretty delusional to say that.
Oh, barf! What were they/was he thinking?? That was just silly!
“jindal sounds like al gore
light right”
To be blunt, Jindal sounded rather effeminate, and definitely weak. Don’t know how that’ll play with the manly men o’the GOP.
For those thinking/wishing for Palin/Jindal or Jindal/Palin 2012, lemme ask – who wears the pants in that ticket?
someone over at WaPo.com called Jindal:
“the brown version of Mr. Rogers”
Yeah Obama’s approval rating going up that much after the speech plus Bobby was the GOP’s best response.
Now if we could just get Obama to talk about ending the war in Iraq nd Afghanistan and getting us National Healthcare.
After all the more he talks the more support he gets an issue. The we have to compromise with the GOP excuse will not work anymore.
I’m thinking big fundraising opportunity for the repugs. “Gitcher Bobby Jindal bobble head dolls while they last!!”
Matt Lewis at Townhall thought Jindal advanced the cause.
believe it or not, it gets better
Do they do that Linda Blair head twist?
Gitcher Sarah Vodoo dolls to Dems Bobby is going to be her VP.
Has he been drug tested?
That’s easy: Todd.
If Democrats don’t do anything stupid (I know, I know, that’s asking a lot) Republicans could find themselves in the minority for the next 10-15 years, easy.
They’ve got nothing, and they seem to be proud of it.
I don’t envy his job. He’s been charged with the task of trying to turn a sow’s ear into a silk purse. Jindal advanced the cause, alright…if the cause is a suicide mission.
I didn’t realize Jindal had a fraternal twin.
Hilarious, even for someone who hasn’t seen the show. I followed the link in the article to the Wiki about Kenneth the Page and actually find myself regretting that I’ve never see it. Jindal nailed this!
http://townhall.com/blog/g/69f…..Descending
First two comments the Righty blog commentors are not buying the spin either.
The GOP can’t even convince their own they have lost message control.
They can’t sell the Big Lie anymore.
Booby Jingle mentioned several tax cuts that he has passed in LA but failed to mention the cuts in medicare and medicade.
Wiping coffee of the monitor…
Thanks Jane! VVF!
Okay, picture this. Picture Bobby Jindal giving the SOTU address. Negotiating with Putin. Addressing the United Nations. OMG.
Picture Great Saturday Nite live Presidential sketches for four years, Picture the best news for Comedians since Dan Quayle,
Picture four more years of Bush because that seems to be what Bobby and to be fair all the GOPers seem to be running on.
“They can’t sell the Big Lie anymore.”
It’s getting harder and harder to peddle that bullshit. I noticed over on the Townhall blog the mention of Santelli as the new savior. Apparently, that’s about all they’ve got right now. Pretty frigging far out of touch with reality.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m certainly enjoying the show.
As the economy gets worse more and more voters are paying attention to the issues and thats when Dems win:)
The GOP wins when voters are not paying attention to the issues and are instead more concerned about Gossip like Monica.
They keep jumping from savior to savior each week. It’s funny to watch – especially since all their saviors are so pitiful.
Speaking of comedy. You just can’t make this stuff up…
http://tpmelectioncentral.talk….._the_d.php
Same here:)
There was something funny about Jindal’s lips, which reminded me of those cheap ads which superimpose human mouths over dogs, in order to have them talk, or adult mouths over infants to have them use adult language. also, the entry was dorky and I wonder if they considered moving the camera to the other end of the hall, and having him descend that long staircase, ala Carole Burnett.
All I can say is that if Jindal is one of the most prominent of the conservative voices and the face of the Rethug party, then Dennis Kucinich should have been President years ago!
It says so much about how out of touch the current Republican party is that they tout Katrina as a success story.
And while you could justify trotting out Jindal as a way for Republicans to showcase their young talent, it also looks like a way to offer up a sacrificial lamb.
Where was Mitch McConnell, the highest ranking Republican in the party, or any of the other Republican Senators who have never shown any aversion before this to a mike or a camera. Where was Boehner to shed a tear or two over those mean, mean old Democrats? I think those who called Jindal the Republican piñata got it exactly right.
15 years? Why such a pessimist? The last time it was 40, and they didn’t f*** up anywhere near this badly then.
If Dennis Kucinich were to get a really, really dark tan and then were to sell out to the rich right and become totally dishonest, he would be Bobby Jindal. I see Amy Poehler doing the impression…
palen/jindal ‘12!!!!!!
LOL
