* Coal: 50%

* And, a wedge pulled out: Natural Gas, 22%

Remember, the basic concept of the “Plan”: use wind power to displace natural gas from the electrical grid and then use that natural gas to displace imported oil.

The problem?
That 50%.

I must be missing something. Picken’s plan has nothing to do with coal. All he wants to do is to generate more of our electricity with wind and shift more of our vehicles to natural gas. Both are good ideas that would make that greedy jerk a lot of money, but they’re still good ideas.

Saw a name from my distant past on the passanger list of that flight: Alison des Forges. We were at Yale together, and socialized. I took classes with her husband. Can’t remember anything more, it was so long ago, and our paths diverged so far.

The way to renewables is not through Pickens and natural gas. He’s just playing on everyone’s fears of depending on foreign oil and gas.

Oil and natural gas production is really polluting and endangering our fresh water acquifers. Read NRDC’s “Drilling Down”. We don’t recognize this pollution because it has always taken place in foreign countries or out west in poorly populated vast stretches of land.

Eh. Ok, I guess. Hard to fund raise in this climate. Not my favorite gig but there are some nice folks too. It’s a paycheck and good hours. 9 – 4.
