Jim Bunning unleashes that famous sneaky fastball once again, and takes aim at Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s pancreas:
U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning predicted over the weekend that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg would likely be dead from pancreatic cancer within nine months.
During a wide-ranging 30-minute speech on Saturday at the Hardin County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner, Bunning said he supports conservative judges "and that’s going to be in place very shortly because Ruth Bader Ginsburg … has cancer."
"Bad cancer. The kind that you don’t get better from," he told a crowd of about 100 at the old State Theater.
"Even though she was operated on, usually, nine months is the longest that anybody would live after (being diagnosed) with pancreatic cancer," he said.
I think it’s impressive that Bunning, who’s never been much more than a dumb ex-jock, could make a medical diagnosis every bit as accurate as Bill Frist’s and without the benefit of a medical degree. Kudos.
I see conservative cancer survivors have the good taste to find this really creepy. No cancer patient wants anyone calling the mortuary on their behalf, especially if their very public death wish is a gambit to grab headlines and stoke campaign coffers:
Bunning also reiterated that he would run for re-election in 2010. But he said he doesn’t have the ability to raise money like U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who spent more than $20 million in last year’s election.
Bunning, who only has about $150,000 in his campaign account, has been criticized because of his inability to raise money.
"I’m not only asking for your support, but if you have a $25 check somewhere, or whatever, you can send it, I’ll cash it," he told the group.
Twenty-five bucks? He put her in the grave for twenty-five bucks?
I get that he’s erratic, his numbers are in the tank, the NRSC would like to unload him and is talking with Kentucky state Senator David Williams about filling the seat (evidently with McConnell’s knowledge). And fear mongering about Supreme Court vacancies is certainly a staple of wingnut politics, but I’m not even sure what the logic here is. If Ginsburg was in fact released from this mortal coil in 9 months, that’s well before 2010 and Bunning would still be able to cast that critical vote to smash our secular liberal dreams of universal abortion, legalized pedophilia and handing over the country to terrorists.
Jill has more on how Bunning is simply following the GOP playbook on this one. If I had to place a bet on which of the two would still be drawing a payroll check from the federal government after November 2010, my money’s on Ginsburg.

A perfect game against the 4 year old NY Mets gets this jerkoff into the Hall.
Attention, Senator Bunning:
If Ms. Ginsburg is the next USSC justice to be replaced, your vote isn’t going to matter.
Mayor Bloomberg offered a similar lack of compassion when approached by unemployed homeowners afraid of losing their houses because now they cannot pay city taxes.

What a skeezy bastard.
Ok people it’s Monday morning – we got work to do here – let’s get busy.
You’re being far too kind. Walking fecal matter is more like it.
Oh yeah, thanks Jane!
How can this be? Why just this morning, the arbiter of Village manners, Miss Cokie Roberts was saying that there’s a new spirit of conciliation that repudiates the vicious attacks of the last 16 years!
Disgraceful, distasteful, disgusting.
Is Rove working for Bunning?
Let alone he may be a senile nutcase. But, I wonder what Medical School he attended….does Regency have one? I’d like to see his MD credentials.
Is this the day for Rove to appear?
Wiping liquids off monitor.
Sarah Palin’s comments last summer about abortion led a number of folks to make contributions to Planned Parenthood in her honor — about $800,000 worth.
In that same way, it would be nice to see the American Cancer Society get a few $25 checks in Jim Bunning’s name.
Alzheimer’s is a disease as well
And when it’s as advanced as Bunning’s would seem to be, it can definitely affect life expectancy. Of course, I could be over-attributing his lack of common decency to a secondary loss of the normal pre-frontal behavioral control from dementia, when it’s perfectly possible that such a deficiency was part of his pre-morbid condition. We may have many more years of this behavior to put up with.
Quite aside from its violation of common decency, Bunning’s remark doesn’t even represent the common sense of the medical prognosis for RBG. The report of no lymph node involvement on surgery, added to the <1cm size of the mass, and the fact that this cancer was reportedly found purely on screening (though I haven’t seen it reported whether this screening was tumor markers or imaging), and not the result of any symptoms, makes this a case with an unusually good prognosis. These circumstances are so unusual, in fact, that I haven’t been able to find, on an admittedly limited review of the literature, that there have been enough such cases to get an idea of how much more favorable it might be than the prognosis for the best group we know enough about to do statistics, Stage IA. She could well be cured, though the oncologists would never say that without a reasonably large basis of observed cases to support that theory. It will be much more reassuring if she gets past the 6 and 12 month screenings with no tumor markers and no liver masses.
As I said on an earlier thread, the most interesting aspect of Bunning’s remarks is the assumption that Obama will replace Ginsburg with a conservative judge. Think he’s got that spot on.
Great idea, Peterr! Count me in! (For the donation, not for gloating over Justice Ginsburg’s poor health, that is…)
*shrug* Dunno. I google “rove” and “testimony” and can’t find it.
Strikes me as a Rovian distraction, though.
This is a WONDERFUL idea!!
*waving from the ‘not-entirely-stupid’ ex-jock corner*
What is it about pitching for the Phillies that turns guys’ brains to mush?
Watch out for Curt Schilling, another wing-nut ex-Phillie, who is probably gonna end up on a ticket somewhere in an unfortunate district TBA….
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg returned to work today…
Jane, would you consider incorporating Peterr’s comment into your post?
Love it. Kick cancer ass, Justice Ginsburg!!
As a native Kentuckian, may I apologize for the idiots that my homestate seems to enjoy sending to the Senate these days.
And for the record, David Williams would not be an improvement over Bunning other than that he might be considered sentient.
Such great usage of “skeezy”!
I’ve always liked “skeezy”, kinda makes your skin crawl.
Just like most Republicans do.
.
Is there, like, an IQ limit on Republican politicians? A max, I mean. Obviously there’s no minimum. Especially in the South. Are they all home-skewld? Do they operate on their own pancreases, too, with their li’l whittlin’ knives? I’d pay $25 to see that. Maybe with some banjo music.
Kewlsecret war stuff that taxpayers and voters aren’t supposed to know about. Obviously, the enemy knows.
.
.
Ooops. Kewl stuff here.
.
Not sure if it was a lowball or a spitball.
Amy Goodman on democracynow mentioned that & is does an in-depth piece on Afghanistan this morning. I’m listening to it now, 10 minutes into the hour program.
screwball?
I emailed Sen. Bunning and requested he apologize to Justice Ginsburg for his disrespectful remarks.
Bad toddler behavior. Needs him some more candy!

Hey, Sean Penn nabbed an Oscar for Milk — what more do you want?
You did fine, the link works. That’s the important thing.
The second time you pasted the url, you put it into the space reserved for labeling the url. I hope that makes sense.
Boo – sadly, I think you and former Detroit Tiger Bunning are correct. Prez Obama’s USSC picks are gonna disappoint us all.
Walking fecal matter is more like it.

you i fear,are still being TOO KIND……………..G
Saw this 6 page article in “The Atlantic” magazine at the library the other day and remembered what Schumer had said during a campaign season (2008 or 2006?) that the only thing to bring down NY was a financial crisis. I am paraphrasing from a long ago statement. Oddly, now it has one.
T. Boone (is one of Bush’s new neighbors along with Republican donor Harold Simmons and recently retired Exxon Mobil CEO Lee R. Raymond.) was on C-Span last night and he wants to put wind turbines from Tx corridor to Canada and said manufacturing would have to moved to that area for power. I wonder if what is happening now was planned. No one could be a 100% loser in every thing he touched like shrub. How can so many companies go from making record breaking profits to filing or near filing for bankruptcies? It is just freaking unbelievable.

Thanks.
It’s scary. Whenever I hear the term “military advisor,” I mark my calendar: We’ll be at war there within months, trying to suppress a popular uprising and prop up a brutal, corrupt, incompetent third-world government. Vietnam all over again.
Advice should not come out of the barrel of a gun. And you should be able to ignore or reject it.

This guy has a veggie brain that get’s worse daily. No human has ever recovered from his brain condition.
Apparently he wants the gooper intelligencia in Ky. to think that by giving him money- this vegamatic will force Obama to put a conservative justice on the court.
Well- guess some MIGHT believe that- but don’t the goopers ever get tired of fishing for the lowest common denominator?
It gives them something to look up to.
What the fuck is that? Something like eyes, nose, hair, mouth… why doesn’t it look human? Leave alone his remarks. There’s just something wrong and dead about his eyes.
