In this light your states skate dangerously close to open sedition. I also enjoy the that-document-would-never-hold-up-in-court argument, when the document itself clearly states, “This copy serves of prima facie evidence of the fact of birth in any court proceeding.” Team Obama was wise to simply publish the document and then ignore all of the wingnut follow-up requests.

OT: Big winners of the night: “Slumdog Millionaire” will get the biggest box office boost from its (at least) 7 Oscars. “The Reader” will get a bit of a jolt from Winslet’s win. “Vicky Christina Barcelona” will get more video rentals for Cruz’s win. During the ’50s and ’60s, news coverage of the civil rights struggle primarily focused on the law enforcement aspect. Resignation or expulsion

“Sir,

I understand that you have recently expressed concern over the qualifications of Barack Obama to hold the office of President of the United States, specifically concern that he may not be, as the Constitution (Art II, sec 1) requires, a natural born citizen. I have seen these words attributed to you, “Well, his father was Kenyan and they said he was born in Hawaii, but I haven’t seen any birth certificate. You have to be born in America to be president.”

If you had any doubts as to the qualifications of the incumbent, you had not merely the right, but the Constitutionally mandated duty, to raise these concerns when the Electoral College votes were received and counted by the joint session of Congress on January 6, 2009. If you had these doubts, and did not bother to attend that session to do your duty and raise this concern, then you failed your clear duty to the people of the United States. If you were there and raised these concerns, as the law requires you to do, I am incensed that the media did not report this dissent. But if you just sat there silently, when you believed that you needed to see a birth certificate to be reasonably certain of the candidate’s citizenship status, and then even voted to accept what you claim is the subject of substantial doubt, on this most momentous of questions, then you are guilty of the worst sort of betrayal of the trust that we the people vest in our elected representatives.

If you cannot account for your behavior in this affair in a way that explains this apparent gross dereliction of duty, you should resign immediately. Clearly, the question of the legitimacy of the incumbent presidency, in this time of war, is of sufficient importance that if you cannot be trusted to do your duty on this question, you are ethically unfit to hold any office of trust under the United States. I am not a citizen of the great state of Alabama, but I am a citizen of the United States, and you owe all of us your complete candor and fidelity to duties that our Constitution, and not just the people of Alabama, require of you. You represent me and my nation, not just the state of Alabama, and if your behavior is a stain on the honor of the United States Senate, then I too am dishonored, and not just the people of your state.

If I do not receive personally, or see reported in the media, a reasonable explanation for your conduct in this matter, my next step will be to forward this letter to the Senators who represent my state, urging them to file a complaint with the Senate’s Ethics Committee to look into the matter of your expulsion.

Birth certificate arguments.

I’ve heard all the screaming about vault copies, long forms, certificates of live birth, birth certificates and all the rest of the poppycock.

My ‘vault copy/long form/certificate of live birth’ is a half-page, hand-written document that is missing almost half of the information on it. A xerox copy of this pitiful thing with the seal of the state pressed into the corner is accepted as my birth certificate for purposes of getting a passport, driver license, marriage license, and anything else.

My father’s birth certificate had “Boy” on the line for his first name. He later wound up with three names – which he used in various combinations throughout his life. So – with that document, how do you think he managed to get a driver license, get married, et al?

My mother’s birth certificate was filed with the state 10 days after her birth at home in another community. This was typical of most people of her generation. The fact that it was filed ‘late’ does not mean she is not a natural born citizen. My grandfather’s birth certificate was filed two years after his birth. Same reason. He served in the military during WWI – and no one questioned his citizenship.

And then there are the hundreds of people who don’t have a ‘vault copy/long form/original’ birth certificate due to the days before microfilm and other forms of record-keeping, courthouse fires and losses of paper records were commonplace. That does not change the fact of their birth.

The State of Hawaii has publicly provided a document, the one on the internet, and has stated officially and for the record that Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii.

So, all these nutbags questioning his birth might want to take that up with the officials at the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Honolulu. None of these nutbags are forensic experts in documents, and it would be quite a stretch for a huge conspiracy between the government of the State of Hawaii and the Obama extended family to perpetrate such a fraud. Obama has received the absolute highest security clearances you can get (he’s the President for crying out loud). Don’t you think that if the FBI/CIA/Secret Service/NSA investigations turned something like this up the gig would have been over at that time? Yeah – at around the time he was running for the Illinois Senate.

And that will accomplish what exactly? What is needed here is that the news organs should be made aware that failure to report the truth, rather than the nothing that is now reported, would hurt their bottom line as letters should state that unless the entire story is reported I and all of my friends who are also signing on to this will write to your advertisers and tell them that we will not purchase their products as long as they support your news organization which fails in their job of reporting the entire story. Which I have already done-to all networks, yes to faux news also.
