Excited to be heading to an art happening tomorrow night, here in old Cleveland proper: Chris Pekoc at Tregoning & Co. I used to go to openings all the time as a young person, then children happened.
was overcast and gray all day today but warmer than yesterday. at sunset, there was a thin band of clear out on the ocean on the other side of the spit but no color
This here band is Storyville, and I know he’s worked with Stephen Bruton (who’s dying of cancer) as well.
Malford is a BAD MAN! Very cool guy, too. I was disappointed he wasn’t on the boat this year. Next time he gets out here I have to go see him. I’m not sure who else he’s worked with but no matter, Malford is a bad, bad man.
You must be cornfused, because Derek isn’t based in Austin and Malford isn’t on Derek’s site. To the best of my knowledge, he has not worked with Trucks.
Correction – according to Malford’s MySpace, he’s now based in Madison, WI. I have NO idea why, unless he’s going to school. Wherever he goes, he’ll succeed, because he’s a bad man!
well, shoot, ES. amazon.com recommended a CD to me based on what I have told them I like. it was a band from Little Rock. now I can’t find the link and don’t remember their name…
What’s on my mind tonight? trying to remember all the sundries i need for my trip to Kansas.
Neuro, EPU’d here, but i’m heading to Manhattan via Kansas City (having lunch there Sat. with a friend). The occasion for traveling to Manhattan is to help daughter & her hubby pack up to move back to Minnesota. His 3 yrs in the army is up. LOTS of family pressure not to re-enlist. He’s not too enthusiastic about a 2nd tour of duty in Iraq, wonder why!
Christine, have fun! I used to do the art thang B4 kidz … now that i’ve got more energy and enthusiasm with thyroid levels back to normal, maybe i can start doing art events again. Maybe even carve out some time to paint/draw *g*
thanks! Before i went there, i had the usual flat-flat-flat stereotype of kansas in my head, man i just fell in love with the Flint Hills. Beautiful. Hard to farm, but beautiful.
yeah, the flat didn’t surprise me, but the Flint Hills sure did. If i ever win the Powerball, i’ll buy some land there and sit and do oil paintings of the landscape all day long.
Senate Bill No. 840
Passed the Senate August 31, 2008
Secretary of the Senate
Passed the Assembly August 29, 2008
Republican Governor Arnold Swarznegger vetoed it. In other words this health care bill was supported across the board, It will save a medium income family of six $10,000.00 a year.
A new effort by CA Senator Mark Leno is in the legislative birthing process. Senator Leno’s office says he wants to do a Post with Firedoglake (he may not know it yet). bu this staff does. They referred me to one of the leads on publicity and I iowe them an email. So need a conract here.
If Ca gets single payer it will lead the nation to it. Can anyone help me here Suz? http://www.healthcareforall.org (including immigrant families).
This means noone has to go without care noone has to lose their home because they got sick. It cuts medical costs in half fo Californians and employers. Creates disposable income to stimulate the economy.
The Senator wants to do a post and I need to know how to hook them up here. Thrier PR guy would want to arrange a time and maybe Dr. Kirk Murphy would do the hosting for Senator Leno. Maybe Micheal Moore would do a post as well on single payer? It could be a medical series for FDL. So I want a phone and email address for the Senators office in you can email me a.barrow @ charter dot net
Yes California prisons union was proposing the recall Must have cut a deal.. With all the job cuts and pay cuts…$3.4 billion I am up for getting the unions talking again. Lots of DMV folks. Great idea. With him gone this would pass despite a referendum by the Big Insurers. Senator Leno’s office says that will happen when it passes again a recall would save us a lot of time.
While I agree with that particular goal of that union, they are power-hungry fucks and very very well fed, and I would not want them out front on that.
Now, the teachers union – I could back it with them in the lead.
No one asked that..but he might be interested if he knew about this and he might want to look at SB840 and comment or suggest language to improve it.
Please sen SUIN my email address that link does not give as contact email. Senators have busy schedules. His office in San Rafael was quite cordial. And Senatoe Kuehl was the first sponsor. This is so exciting, they were so enthusiastic. Email me Suin contact email and or phone and I think I can get it off of the ground. Much appreciated as we need single payer which would force insurance companies to be more competitive as well. My dentist says it will expand the health care industry.
Hi, everyone!
Y’know, I’m scheduled to retire in May. I’m getting a little nervous about this economy thing– am I stupid to retire? Should I hang on to my job for another year just in case the economy turns really bad?
I’m really looking forward to retirement, but I’ll be depending on my social security check plus a check from Arizona retirement fund. Can those sources of income survive this depression? I have several personal projects that I’m looking forward to, and I’m beginning to wonder how many years I have left.
Meet Suin the media manager at firedoglake.
Suin meet carole at Ca Senator Mark Leno’s office. Please keep me in the loop and let Jane Hamsher know what we are proposing to help promote single payer health care for all. http://www.healthcareforall.org
I posted this in the FDL comments tonight. I think a series scheduled in parallel with your campaign might be worth considering. They have a book salon that hosts authors maybe get Michael Moore and others to schedule a book salon could be hosted by Senator Leno or a knowledgeable individual. It is gracious and people are asked to stay on topic. It will be hugely popular we have a Dr, Kirk Murphy a frequent poster on health subject who might also be a great host. It will also help affordable housing by taking that burden away. Many medical professional do not take Medical (share of cost has ballooned) or Medicare. My dentist is interested and mentioned Insurance Director Garamandi’s support he was at a leg conference in Sac 2003 and has good connects in the Dental associations.

We have a local California Men’s Colony here with a lot of correctional workers in that union. I have never seen them pushing their weight although I imagine if screwed with they would stand up i agree with Newtonser, however I imagine a whole lot of folks who voted our Davis would ber happy to circulate petitions for recall or Ahnold who would be more unpopular if not Married to Maria.
Storyville – A Good Day For The Blues. ice music letting it all hang out.
Don’t know MM but imagine he might like a podium like FDL and Jane has Natioanal creds. Great music to listen to. Thanks and thanks for the help. I would not feel to guilty about recalling he didn’t in fact us dems are “Girly man”. So he asked for it. Hollywood is not king. Warrants for IOUs is pretty ugly. 20,000 sate workers were layed of i a reverse stimulus package. It was the deregulated republicans that took down the pension funds and greated the $36 billion energy disater that got Davis out with a recall. If recall is ok for Dems why not Repubs? We recalled our local pols in 2005 and glad we did.
Our Pride committee has already announced cutbacks in the number of Grand Marshals, and they are eliminating the Community Grand Marshals and the Pink Brick award this year while they “evaluate how to choose them.” It’s the largest Pride celebration not supported by an entrance fee, and I think this year will be tough, as the permits are certain to skyrocket given The City’s fiscal situation — Gavin says we are looking at a hundred and ten million dollar deficit.
You were fine Suz and thanks for your tireless energy. Sleep well and enjoy your babies company while you can. Never know when thew chicks will fly again.
I’s got da blues!
anytime is a good time for the blues :)
how’s everyone doing tonight?
so let’s Digg it!
Hey Suz. Very nice.
I’m fine Suzanne, how are you?
Excited to be heading to an art happening tomorrow night, here in old Cleveland proper: Chris Pekoc at Tregoning & Co. I used to go to openings all the time as a young person, then children happened.
i’m doing good neuro, thank you for asking

Hiya All (forgive my bad manners…)
hey christine e – sounds like fun
Good song! Hi Suz, everyone.
The snow flies again here.
more snow? dang, bet you will be glad when spring arrives
thanks newton – i’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out what other band i’ve seen that lead singer in
Snow looked serious for a few hours, but it looks very calm now. Lovely even.
Margot and I have had a hard snow season this year — probably the worst in 20 odd years.
was overcast and gray all day today but warmer than yesterday. at sunset, there was a thin band of clear out on the ocean on the other side of the spit but no color
I’ve got the hot chocolate blues. Might as well go make a cup…)
He does look familiar, Suz.
Suze – did I turn you on to this? I’ve played onstage with Malford Milligan. He is a force of nature.
hey es – how’s the wing?
Hey, ES. I have a music question for you. Let me go find the link.
dood! that’s the name i could not think of – what other bands has he played in and you lucky dog you :)
Knew you’d get it!
is he the singer for the derek trucks band or am i getting two guys confused?
This here band is Storyville, and I know he’s worked with Stephen Bruton (who’s dying of cancer) as well.
Malford is a BAD MAN! Very cool guy, too. I was disappointed he wasn’t on the boat this year. Next time he gets out here I have to go see him. I’m not sure who else he’s worked with but no matter, Malford is a bad, bad man.

It’s got a mind of it’s own today.. evidently I’m just a passenger on this mend trip.
Correction – according to Malford’s MySpace, he’s now based in Madison, WI. I have NO idea why, unless he’s going to school. Wherever he goes, he’ll succeed, because he’s a bad man!
that guy, it wasn’t you that turned me onto storyville – i first heard this song on kpig
oh it’s not a big bad storm, just a little dusting. Just a reminder.
well, shoot, ES. amazon.com recommended a CD to me based on what I have told them I like. it was a band from Little Rock. now I can’t find the link and don’t remember their name…
that’s kewl christine e – thank you
Suze! Pups!
What’s on my mind tonight? trying to remember all the sundries i need for my trip to Kansas.

I do love the one-two inch every night. Those cleansing dust ups.
That Guy have you ever been to SXSW in Austin? I would love to go someday.
Margot, if I go to SXSW, I want to be gigging, not just watching. Check out some music.
Oh well, maybe it will come to you.. I fill up my wish list just so I can go back at times like this… it’s also a file cabinet . /s
this is where i know him from – he was on the double trouble cd with all kinda other artists, doyle, lou ann, etc.
OK, I’ve sent you so much stuff, I lose track. I’m gonna keep sending, too. You gonna get the Heads on anytime soon?
I saw that ACL too, was how I discovered Malford. He is incredible.
Heyu Suze – Let’s all go down to Dumas Walker! :-D
talking heads? i’ve done them twice iirc
I can’t take credit for knowing this, AllMusic says Malford Milligan used to sing with the Stick People, and jammed at Antone’s in Austin.
Toni Price – Like the Sun
No no no. KENTUCKY Heads – as in Headhunters
i LOVE toni price – i’ve been looking for a video of her doing am i grooving you?
one day dood – i’ve got a pretty long list of requests – you are not the only one who sends me stuff :)
I love Manhattan… can’t ever sleep the first 48 hours of being there. Have fun, ndfg!
reading that, i realized it could sound harsh – that was not my intent that guy
I tried but it would not play for me, had to reboot. DX: Old and slow ‘puter.
thanks! Before i went there, i had the usual flat-flat-flat stereotype of kansas in my head, man i just fell in love with the Flint Hills. Beautiful. Hard to farm, but beautiful.
there is a lotta flat in kansas too. the hills always surprised me when we would go see kin in ks – i always remembered just the flats
yeah, the flat didn’t surprise me, but the Flint Hills sure did. If i ever win the Powerball, i’ll buy some land there and sit and do oil paintings of the landscape all day long.
the rolling hills of oklahoma were a big surprise to me – i had thought that ok was flat – hell, i thought all the midwest was flat.
my stereotype turned around and bit me – is what usually happens to erroneously preconceived ideas

Suz, did you head down to the water with your camera today?
bb – how can i help? anyone can diary at ox
nope, was running errands with baby girl today and was pretty tied up with stuff
no new pictures today :(
bb, one way for you to spread the word is for you to diary about it at ox
also bb, you can put leno’s staff in touch with siun – she is our press secretary and would be a good place for them to start
Now there’s candidate for a recall. He has been a colossal disaster.

the correctional union is very powerful – ran into them when testifying before the senate judical committee on juvenile justice reform.
very powerful

Bad news for blues fans — SF Blues Festival in GG Park “taking the year off.”
keep me posted how it goes bb – it would be an interesting salon – did not know you knew moore

Bad news for nearly everyone.
This is a time when we will lose a lot of traditions. My hope is that when we return to sanity, we will clamor to get them back. All of them.
