Someone. Anyone. Please make him stop.
Some consider Obama’s wooing of Republicans a rookie mistake, a measure of his naivete. Others focus on the Republicans and fault them for obduracy in denying Obama all but three of their votes on the stimulus bill. The critics agree that the effort at bipartisanship should end.
I hope Obama isn’t listening. It’s the worst advice he has received.
It starts from a false premise: that the stimulus bill proves the failure of outreach to Republicans. In fact, had Obama not negotiated successfully with Republican Sens. Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe and Arlen Specter and met most of their terms, his bill would have died. This was a success for bipartisanship, not a failure.
In other words, Obama completely caving to the demands of the only three sane Republicans in the entire US Congress is proof of "bipartisanship." Interesting.
If Obama writes off the Republicans in advance, he will end up with a watered-down bill — or nothing.
Only the Republicans can save us from watered-down bills.
This is even more true when it comes to health care. We saw what happened when the Clintons rebuffed John Chafee and other potential Republican allies; without their help, the Clintons could not even bring a bill to the floor.
So true. If those Clintons hadn’t been so mean and partisan, we would’ve had universal health care.
At the urging of Representative Newt Gingrich, their deputy leader, House Republicans are trying to keep health care legislation from reaching the floor in a form that could pass.
For David Broder, bipartisanship is really just doing what Republicans want.

His leg tingles cuz he pissed down his pants.
Does he read what he writes, to make sure it says something meaningful? Can he hire someone to do that? Jeez.
What is wrong with those people?
OT, but there is something wrong with these people too.
‘On Wednesday, the North Dakota House of Representatives passed a bill saying that fertilized eggs have all of the rights of a human being. The bill defines any organism containing a single human cell as a human being.’

They want him to walk like a duck and quack like a duck, and then go hunting with Cheney.
Such a cute little egg! Oh, Look! He has his father’s dimples!
The bill defines any organism containing a single human cell as a human being.’
Kind of like the days of old, where 1 drop of black blood makes you black. Yes, the party of the future strikes again!
David Broder will be 80 in sept. has he been checked for dementia?
OT – There certainly is an obsession by Republican politicians about sex. We should have a poll done on how many wear diapers. Is Broder a pampered Republican? The world wants to know!
From the Raw Story: Obessions
LMAO!!
OT again.. Sorry Blue Texan, but I did read your post first :(
Hmmm, this could prove interesting.
RFE/RL) — ‘Kyrgyzstan’s parliament has approved a government order closing the Manas air base, used by the United States to transport supplies and troops to Afghanistan.
The air base is a key staging post for the reinforcement and supply of U.S. military forces in Afghanistan. Each month some 15,000 U.S. soldiers pass through it on the way to and from the conflict zone, along with 500 tons of supplies.’

“At the urging of Representative Newt Gingrich, their deputy leader, House Republicans are trying to keep health care legislation from reaching the floor in a form that could pass.”
Why would Newt do this? Is it part of his Contract on Americans?
I love you! I was looking for love and now I have found it. I appreciate your looking at this as what it is, a compromise that is necessary for the world to continue to spin on its axis.
“State Representative Charlice Byrd announced on February 4 that she is starting a “grassroots” effort to oust these professors”
Is that her only position on this, or does she have others?
“The bill defines any organism containing a single human cell as a human being”
So when your dog licks your hand (remove some dead skin cells), the dog becomes human? That would explain the republican behaviour.
Here Boner. Sit.
Let’s face reality, republicans are obstructionist, nasty, ugly, pieces of work. However, these facts don’t change the reality that we need to get “stuff” done. We shouldn’t shoot the dog for the bone.
I believe if you look up ‘bipartisanship’ in the dictionary it will say, “doing what the Republicans want.”
At least that seems to be the definition being used by all of the major media, Republicans and most Democrats.
She might have to get down on her knees and beg for support.
In Broder’s favor, I beleive Obama is hellbent on saving democracy rather than the economy. Obama knows the economic as we know it is dead. I think he knows that we need to prove that we can build consensus, even at great cost.
There are no sane Republicans. It’s an oxymoron. What you had is an idiot like Collins boasting how she was cutting spending in a bill whose sole purpose was spending of any kind to avoid depression.
As for Broder, the man makes blithering idiots look like Einstein. Here’s a journalist and I use that term with all the irony it has who completely missed the disasters of the Bush years. Just passed him by. Never noticed them. He is the epitome of the braindead media, robotically repeating the same talking points because no one bothered to give him any new ones and his batteries haven’t run out yet.
Perfect.
I daresay the tingle is the leakage from his Depends.
On another note, and I am puzzled it didn’t show up here already: Rahm Emmanuel has his own tax/ethics problem. It appears more and more that the entire Obama Administration is just as bereft of any ethics as was the Bush Admin. The common theme amongst the Obama crew is that they are ALL tax cheats. ALL of them.
I want the entire Administration to be audited by the IRS.
This is what happens when you hire Blue Dogs and other assorted faux Democrats.
Back on topic…how old is Broder? Shouldn’t he be stroking out soon?
Broder would make my leg tingle if I could kick my leg up his ass to where it reaches my knee…tingle and giggle.
Broder is a zombie animated by the ghost of St. Ronnie.
By “sane” I mean “acknowledges that we have to do something more than cut taxes.”
bipartisanship – just add water!
By acknowledging that, Republics would be banned from their Party.
“Republics must never question Republic dogma.” – St. Reagan
You are so right, what idiot machine gives them the right to blather on, and on, and on, and on……
Re your “another note” . . .
I always enjoy being lectured to about ethics by Dick Morris.
You are very visual and funny!
Sure, and the NYPost, but the story has also popped up elsewhere. This one just happens to be at one of the news aggregation sites I read (they get their articles from all over, not just winger rags.
Rahm: failing to pay taxes, on the board of Freddiemac during the very period when they lied about their books. We already knew he was trash, we now have more details on the many ways he is trash.
Yeah, the content is something to take seriously, but I just laughed out loud when I saw that byline.
Broder’s writings remind me of a pile of moldy wet leaves, you notice it, but it does not illuminate or engage your brain at all.
