  • Good news.
  • But not in Ka-lee-fornia.
  • And not for Roland.
  • Obama sits down with CBC: Afghanistan, ‘Buy American.’
  • I wish he wouldn’t phrase it quite like that.
  • This asshat used to be in the US Congress.
  • A brief history of a political junkie.
  • Bet she does better than Karen Hughes.
  • Tough guy warrior fighter jock afraid of "The View."
  • Truly one of the stupidest people on the planet.

Woo hoo! That was a great smack-down. It’s just too bad Cantor was only there on tape and not in person. It would have been great fun to see his face as Jane tore him to bits.

Jane did great on Shusters show last night. KO came down on Cantor too. Asked about the hypocracy of his wife, a managing director at a bank that received TARP funds.

The guys on my radio station are getting a little tired of KO’s continuing obsession with Shrub. Still counting the days since “Mission Accomplished,” etc. Hey, Keith, we’ve got Irak Redux in Afghanistan. Gonna have to break out my “How Many More?” sign again.

I haven’t seen anything. He’s treading water with the money his wife’s firm got from the feds. Kinda hypocritical to push for banks getting money, but Americans not…

I think that the concept of Afghanistan as a country is erroneous. The reality is that it is a part of the planet where numerous tribes fight over domination of one another and women are property.

I can’t argue with that. Have you read Beyond the Khyber Pass, the story of Britain’s first Afghan adventure. Not a lot of progress there in the last 170 years.

Afghanistan was a country for 40 years under their last king, until his brother executed a coup. However, being a plaything of empires does not do a lot for governmental stability.

I almost forgot. We’ve had a great blue heron that’s hung out here for a few years. Yesterday I came home for lunch and there was Handsome and another great blue. In the early evening we were witness to an obvious mating ritual between the two. Awesome. Nice little sanctuary here for great blues, snowy egrets, wood storks and various ibises. So cool.

Love you, Jane, you are indeed a ray of sunshine in the dark swirling storm of stupidity that is the village and MSM. Saw this clip last night, and then started watching all the other clips, many of which I had seen before but just watched for the sheer enjoyment. Half an hour later I realized I was late to all the threads.

If you did not see the story on World Savings Bank on 60 min, go watch it.

Here’s a bite or two:

What does Paul Bishop say he told executives at World Savings, three years before the crash?

“We’re breaking the law, okay? We’re breaking the law. You know we’re breaking the law. I know we’re breaking the law. What the hell do you think is going on here? You know, you’re granting too many people loans who simply can’t qualify,” Bishop told 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley.

Bishop’s story is a rare inside look at forces that tore the economy apart, as seen by a plain-spoken loan salesman who is now suing World Savings, claiming that he was fired for telling executives what they didn’t want to hear.

(snip)

“Did anyone at World ever specify why you were fired?” Pelley asked.

“To this day they have not,” Bishop said.

Asked why he thinks he was fired, Bishop said, “I think I was right in the middle of $25 and a half billion dollars.”

“Did you call Wachovia?” Pelley asked.

“I did not,” Bishop said.

Asked if he regrets not making that call, Bishop said, “I’ll always regret it. I’ll always regret it.”

The losses from the Pick-A-Payment portfolio are now estimated at $36 billion. Wachovia was so badly wounded, it was acquired by Wells Fargo with the help of a taxpayer bailout.

“We have talked to some former executives of the bank who tell us that they listened to your complaints, they investigated your complaints, and they found that there was nothing to them,” Pelley told Bishop.

“Are they employed today?” Bishop asked.

“No,” Pelley said.

“Surprise. They lost their job. The bank went bust. They took down the fourth largest bank in the country with them. But there was no problem,” Bishop replied.

Then I want to hear Cantor talk about the housing crisis and explain how “tax cuts” are better after watching this story.

What is very indicative of rethuglican hypocrisy is its’ members knowledge of the truth and their innate ablity and willingness to lie in order to provide fodder for their sheeple and to advance their political careers.

I agree with Jane. Many media outlets are concerned with profit margins, not on getting the truth out to the public.

Vitter is a first class GOP whore who is willing to raise his standing
among his base rather than provide viable solutions to problems.

His lack of knowledge and willingness to lie to promote his personal gender disqualifies him for membership in Congress.

I am so proud of Jane Hamsher’s intelligent response on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave last night about Eric Cantor. We need more of this on all cable channels. The republicans put on these second rate people that are actually undermining the information getting out to the public and posing them as”the bright up and coming people in the republican party, if that’s their best they need to close shop now.
They are still using Rovian / Bush/ Cheney tactics which are lie when you are exposed, keep repeating it is true and you can pick up enough uninformed viewers or readers that then believe it is fact. This is a serious miscarriage of justice: we need to be vigilant about this and call them out on it everytime, like Jane did.

” The US was secretly flying unmanned drones from the Shamsi airbase in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Baluchistan as early as 2006, according to an image of the base from Google Earth. “

” The image — that is no longer on the site but which was obtained by The News, Pakistan’s English language daily newspaper — shows what appear to be three Predator drones outside a hangar at the end of the runway. The Times also obtained a copy of the image, whose co-ordinates confirm that it is the Shamsi airfield, also known as Bandari, about 200 miles southwest of the Pakistani city of Quetta. “
