With the arrival of Senator Sherrod Brown from his mother’s wake, the Democrats found their 60th vote to pass the $787 billion Economic Stimulus bill tonight.
More from KPTV.com
With earlier passage by the House in a vote of 246 – 183, with no Republican support at all, the bill is now ready for President Obama’s signature, expected on Monday.

Jane’s post on the House vote: "House Passes Stimulus Package–and Oh, By the Way, Bipartisanship is Dead" from noon today.
Senator Brown will be returning to his family tomorrow for the rest of the funeral. Republicans who let this happen instead of providing a 60th vote? Explain to me one more time how you’re the party of family values?

Yeah! He arrived! My sympathies to Sherrod on his Mom’s demise…!
What’s the ETA of Al Franken’s arrival in the Senate?
And when will Obama learn not to give away the store for NOTHING in return from the republicans? Think how great the House “starting position” bill would have been if it hadn’t been tarted up with all that crap to “appeal to Republicans”.
If McConnell had a freaking decent bone in his body…
Condolences to Sherrod and his family.
Listening to Harry congratulating everyone for being so magnificent.
Sorry you had to make the trip, Mr. Brown. RIP Emily.
Now to fix the distribution of the money so that no state with two rethug sens get any money except Maine and PA can get money. Every other state with one rethug sen gets only half the money it would get if both sens had voted for the bill. The states that get money should be limited to giving it to districts that voted for the bill. The rethugs don’t like the bill, so they shouldn’t be bothered with benefiting from it.
Don’t torture yourself that way!
tarted up. hee.
Headline on HuffPo front page: “STIMULUS 2, BIPARTISANSHIP 0″
Earlier, I’d linked to this excellent Hill article…
Go House Dems…! ;-)
Now can we get Rahm to STFU?
Have you all called Lieberman to thank him?
Good luck with that.
julia upstairs
Good luck with that, too.
Questions, lot of questions:
Who sees to the distribution of proceeds?
How much discretion is there?
Did DiFi make her alleged move on net neutrality?
Guess the anwers will unfold in the fullness of time.
It got a lot closer tonight, but it’s still uncertain.
SLOW DOWN!!!!!
Huffington Post has an open letter to President Obama from a former Republican about how the Rep party is ruled by the regilious right and the neo cons and their leaders won’t budge an inch for 4 yrs. Those religious right and neo cons are fighting their last battle and they want it to be on socialism, not corporate socialism or corporate corruption or banking thievery. It is a distraction away from the biggest financial theft of America and it’s citizens in history. When he became President BO transitioned from speaking (campaigning) to us about what he was going to do for the Democratic party to implementing those jobs he said he would get done. But he is fighting the wealthy, the lobbyist and the financial industry along with much of the media that have controlled the Republican party so well in the past few decades. He campaigned against them and now they are in a battle and he has to be aggressive from the start or they will get their claws in him too like most other politicians. I personally don’t understand how any politician could not care about the millions of job loses, homeowners thrown out on the streets and states going broke and vote against the stimulus bill. Unless they are lieing about this financial mess and this economic downturn has been on purpose and the biggest con job since “The Sting”. Have they been purposely holding back on loans for the past year and a half for a reason other than what we were told? Many of these companies are in trouble because they couldn’t get loans.
On the stimulus bill:
Condolences to Senator Brown for his loss.
Congratulations to Senator Brown on his vote to make history!
Yea for passing it!

On transportation:
I was watching the t.v. show Now this evening and in a segment about transportation and light rail they talked to some Charlotte, NC officials. One thing which seemed especially interesting to me was how federal dollars are allocated by highway miles and how that gives states an incentive to build more roadway.
I’d suggest the Obama administration look at reforming that calculation from surface-transportation-miles to surface-transportation-PASSENGER-miles. This would balance out the incentives to states for any and all kinds of transportation modes. Buses might do better since they carry more passengers and light rail would clearly do better (than now) with the larger numbers of passengers.
It might be a rule change which could be done quickly and let cities benefit from it and the stimulus LAW right away.
Put a sock in it? I have socks…
