It appears Dan Boren doesn’t think Democrats are Americans.
"It was a good thing for the president to meet with Republicans. The previous administration never met with Democratic members of Congress. The problem is that it became a Democrat [sic] bill and not an American bill,” Boren continued, “because he didn’t use any of the Republican ideas.”
Someone might want to teach this rube how to properly use the adjectival form of his own party, and while they’re at it, remind him that the Economic Recovery Act is about 40% tax cuts. Not to mention the fact that three Republicans in the Senate helped write it. So the claim that there’s no Republican "ideas" in the bill is a lie.
If Boren’s name is vaguely familiar, it’s because he got press by refusing to endorse his party’s nominee for president.
Calling him "the most liberal senator" in Congress, Democratic Rep. Dan Boren of Oklahoma told the Associated Press on Tuesday that he won’t endorse the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Feel free to tell the Congressman what you think of this.

About Firedoglake
This guy is an idiot. Is this another Rahm Emanuel ‘find’?
Bagman Boner carrying in the bill to speak to the House now.
Wonder if the Bag o’tobacco checks had the same flourish and heft from the Rethug leader?
The idiocy that is rampant in Texas seeps across the border to Oklahoma. How’d this boob get elected?
Oh man. We need to make sure the Obamatrons on his various Web sites see this. They’ll absolutely swamp this dude’s phone and inbox. Zell Miller anyone?
Blue Dog Dan Boren:
Lack of Republican Votes Means Stimulus Billis “Not American”I had to fix your typo. This is the truth of the matter.
I had “Republicans not American” more in mind for the edit fix.
Well, as eCahn would say, too stupid to breathe.
Well, his father being a previous governor of the state and the current president of the University of Oklahoma probably didn’t hurt him in the name recognition department…
Ha! I bet you’re on to something.
Anyone who can remotely agree with the republics are unamerican, party affiliation doesn’t really matter. This asshole is a repuke for all intent and purpose.
Let us not forget who OK sent to the senate last year. The dumbest guy in the senate. Dan Boren’s father was also a blue dog dem as was his grandfather.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Boren
If this is the crap they send us, they may as well go ahead and elect a republic. I have no clue how these so called people call themselves dems.
I see, an affirmative action hire. Naw, he got there just from hard work and excellence. Yea, that’s it!
Dan Boren (DINO-OK)
i must be a masochist, because i just tuned into cspan 1 to listen to the debate. only took about 30 sec before i had to come to fdl for moral support.
I peeked to Rep Jerry Lewis was bloviating. Something about the name reminds me of comedian *g*
lol – he was sucking up to obey. i have not fracking clue why…. which is generally my state while watching cspan.
DINO’s are not okay! g*
(((selise)))
I just turned it on too. Heard the big voice vote “NO!”
what are they voting on. I don’t think it’s the final vote.
LOL. I noticed the same thing downstairs. He must want something. :) Maybe he got a big valentine, or sending one.
because he didn’t use any of the Republican ideas.”
Only a
disnegenouslying asshoe could say that. The Republica ideas were the biggest problem with it, in my view.
oops, that was for selise at 17
he’s old Boren’s kid?
This is a procedural vote stimulous next.
His teeth look like a row of new refrigerators lined up at an appliance store.
How’d this boob get elected?
He ran.
that photo is kinda scary. Looks like a vampire, mafioso style. double scary.
btw, i commented on the timing of this vote this morning:
h.res. 168 (the rule) passed this morning. i guess this is another procedural vote.
LOL. One of my nephews is on his student council. when his little brother came to be a freshman, lil bro asked him what he should run for. Big Bro said, well, look to see who else is running and if you can beat them. LOL. Then lil bro noticed no one was running for class prez, so he took that! that’s how you do it.
so… i’m quite sure than not one of the representatives (or anyone on their staff) has read the bill they have debated and are about to vote on.
Hehehe. Good description.
thanks!
who’s on the rules committee?
Thought that was well, the photo is downright frightening.
I grew up in Oklahoma. (I escaped the day after college graduation.) This dweeb is just there because of the Boren name. His father is the president of Oklahoma Univ. Before that, he was in the U.S. Senate. That family will never be out of Oklahoma, and Okies are so stupid, they see the name Boren and just vote for him.
I would say that Oklahoma is full of stupid imbeciles, and it mostly is, but remember, they once had Mike Synar, who was decent. But they followed suit, and voted him out.
Oklahoma has a LOT of Democrats — but they are really Republicans. (The only thing I guessed was that since their parents were Democrats, they must be, too. After all, as an adult, they cannot think for themselves.) Anyway, whatever letter is after their name, R or D, they are really Republicans. Boren is no exception.
I read it somewhere recently. Don’t remember where. But have been looking for a place to use it ever since, and voila!
Patriot Act Redux.
my rep, among others. but they just do whatever the house leadership tells them to do.
Oklahoma went for McCain by the widest margin (over 30 percent) of any state in the country. More than Texas, Arizona, Alaska, etc.. Any Dem elected there will inevitably be a DINO.
Speaking of looking kinda scary or like fictional characters, I swear to goodness that Timothy Geithner, in some of his photos, resembles a Vulcan to me. Pointy ears, eyebrow that goes up at an angle (one eyebrow more than the other.) The only thing out of place is his curly hair.
They’ve had the bills they and the Senate originally passed. How hard should it be for staff to highlight the changes out of conference? If, like Obey said, they’ve been working all hours I don’t see a lot of wiggle room for not knowing what they’re voting on.
He truly does! Especially his ears, I was tripping on them the entire time he was giving testimony.
Yeah, but that all flies out the window once he opens his mouth and reveals that he has the reasoning capacity of a dead armadillo. Vulcans are smart.
Looks like some Blue Dogs and some moderate Rethugs are playin’ tit for tat.
I am not impressed by what I’ve seen so far from Geithner.
it also occurs to me that if somebody says “I’m philosophically opposed to this”– that’s fine; it’s legitimate (if you’re being honest)… but if so, it seems to me that you really don’t need the details if you’ve already decided you’re against it from the get go.
I love these 15 minute votes that last half an hour. Sorta like it takes 3 hours to play 60 minutes of football.
.
He’s like the only Democrat in Oklahoma. I think he gets elected by washing their cars, shining their shoes, and running errands in Congress for the Repukelickin’s. Most of the other Presidential Red States on my list have some or many Dem’s in office, though I’m not sure what that means. Everybody in ND is a Dem, but they always vote ‘Puke for Prez. Go figure.
I think we already have a 3 or 4 Party system in this country, governing by consensus & coalition, like a parliament. Instead of Liberals or Christian Democrats, we have radical redneck corporatist Repuke’s, “moderate Republicans” and “Blue Dogs,” who all represent no one. The progressive majority has only a handful of elected representatives, marginalized by the mouthpieces for the imaginary “center,” where nobody lives.
Lotta work to do between now & 2010.
Let’s start with Friday Beach Blogging from the North Shore of Hawaii.
.
what’s a tat?
I agree.
wasn’t daddy a DINO senator?
an even better (as in worse) example of that is the commodity futures modernization act of 2000 (that included the law to prevent regulation of otc derivatives like credit default swaps and the enron loophole). that’s the one that dems like to say phil gramm “snuck” into an omibus spending bill even though he wasn’t on the conference committee.
on that one, the senate approved the conference report by UC one hour after it was reported out of committee and before it had even been brought to the senate floor:
my bold.
That’s generous.
Mike Synar (and his tie) were very good. He was primaried out and Tom Coburn was ultimately elected. I knew Mike from our school days at OU and was shocked when he died at 45 from an anurism.
As the finish line approaches the Blue Dogs make their run.
Just saw a video clip of Danny-boy, and like the picture above, he exhibits a little Ted Haggardness. Just an initial observation.
Final vote. 5 minutes. That means 15.
i don’t know what was changed. regardless of that however, there was a vote (it was unanimous) telling the rules committee to give 48 hours to review the bill before the vote. the rules committee ignored that. i think it’s because next week is a vacation week and everyone wants out of town.
also i expect they don’t want to have to be hearing from their constituents re any complaints we may have.
HR 1 being voted on now in the house.
That’s interesting, didn’t know that.
Are not enough no votes left to catch yes so it has passed.
Bill passes. Not enough not voted left to overtake the Yeas.
Yay for postpartisanship! No pukes vote yes for stimulus.
HR 1 passed 7 dems voted no one voted present all rethugs voted no except for 2 NV 246 to 183
Dems – 7 Nays 1 Present
I owe ya a drink. Great minds…
eCahn and others, you might enjoy this.

A Deustche Bank internal memo tells the government (ours) to buy up its crap assets at inflated prices or else.
Back to the cesspool.
just switched over to cspan-2.
some R bloviating on the wonderfulness of tax cuts.
For all the good it is going to do the economy, they could have as usefully spent their time on declaring this national ping pong day.
thanks. hard not to speculate (as for example martin wolf has) that this was what was going on. but this is the first real evidence i’ve seen.
would have cost less,
The other day I said I think “Keebler” every time he’s on TV.
I don’t look at that as a ransom note so much as an admission that the “assets” are worth so little that the economy is doomed if they are marked to market. That’s been your & my position for quite some time. It’s nice to see someone on the inside confessing.
He reminds me of the elves from the Lord of the Rings films.

when will people like Dan Boren’s staff realize that hanging up on me midsentence is only going to get MORE calls, and instead of calling Boren to task i’ll also start talking about the importance of manners and phone etiquette. The line “I don’t know what YOUR mama taught you, but mine always said to be polite.”
I sent this to Congressman Boren:
Congressman Dan,
I would appreciate if you do not indicate that stimulus bill is anti-American. Do not vote for it, but do not question patriotism of those who are interested in economic recovery. It is easy to criticize, but I have not heard or seen your proposal!!
Further I would suggest that you leave Democratic party and join Republican party.
My guess is that there were a lot of Democrats in Oklahoma during the Depression. Most of them lost everything and went to other States. Without FDR it would have been even worse, though. The ones that were left maybe picked up the farms and houses, got jobs on trhe big consolidated farms, etc. They may have had acquaintances that were wiped-out in the Big D, but they themselves benefitted from it. Or they immigrated in from elsewhere.
Like most southerners they shifted over to supporting the Republicans after Nixon started using race as a lever. Plus they got in with big oil. Fort a state where people look back on events like the Hoesteading and raw independence of the Founders, it’s essentially become a bunch of obedient, uncritically-thinking dittohead Bible-Thumpers.
This ‘all in’ strategy Rush has them pursuing is gonna get them crushed in two years.
When the economy does turn, Obama and the Dems. will get the credit and they will be pushed even further into the wilderness.
Rush, Bible Spice, and Sam the (non)plumber are the leaders of this party right now, and that tells you all you need to know about the quality of their ideas these days.
What’s funny (and o’ so sad for them) is that the above paragraph isn’t even snark!
That’s Democrat Party, to Boren.
Idiot.
Hang up? Can you give us a little transcript?
call back and tell them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeV-DI09Q3w
A part of the history of OK
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulsa_Race_Riots
but that’s not what the memo says, although i agree that is a premise on which the memo is based) – it says that our job prospects will be related to how much is payed for the toxic assets, and this:
The sad part of postpartisanship, IMO, is that without it we could have had a much, much better bill. The crappy compromise tax cuts, etc. make it more difficult for the economy to improve.
ack. i can’t take lieberman. bbl
Sent by a friend!!
He looks like John Travolta at Madame Tussad’s
Slightly OT Rep Cao from NO had been in the news recently indicating he was going to vote for the stimulus. I guess the Rethug machine got to him. So much for free thought in the rethug party.
Stop making me laugh.
Target this asshole in the next election. It’s critical to eject “blue dog” turncoats from the Democratic party and elect a real Democrat.
New post by Jane
Nice catch. I just read today somewhere he was in support of it because “New Orleans needs everything.”
You must be about my age. I went to Girl Scout Camp with Mike’s sister. I lived in Tahlequah — they were from Muskogee (I think). (I, too, am an OU alum! Go Sooners! haha)
