So little cross-over by the GOP for the stimulus bill, I’m sure it was all because of their true policy differences, no? What say you Transportation Secretary, and Republican, Roy LaHood?
After the gaggle, ABC News asked Mr. LaHood if he would comment on why every single one of his former colleagues on that side of the aisle voted against the bill.
"The ones that I talked to I think they were concerned about the process and that, you know, they weren’t involved in the process," LaHood said. "And as I said earlier I think when they talked about the transportation part of the stimulus I have not heard one word of criticism about it."
Aw, thank goodness it is about the "principle" of the thing. Did the holy roller contingent curse a red-stated blue streak worthy of Eric Cantor?
Today’s GOP, if only Piero Manzoni were alive to put it in a can.
This stimulus bill is huge, so disastrous, and so harmful to our country that even though Obama has been in office for less than a month, I think it’s already fair to label him as one of the worst Presidents in American history. – John Hawkins, Right Wing News
Somehow unaccompanied by a *rim shot*.

The Repigs were ‘included’ way more than the Dems were when the Repigs were in control. Some of them have even admitted it (McCain among others). But even as they admit it – they are still crying like a bunch of babies that their ideas weren’t allowed in. What? 42% of the bill is tax cuts – a Repig idea if there ever was one. Oh right – Obama proposed it so it’s all wrong.
Every compromise on this legislation has been to appease these jerks. And for what. Three measly (but unfortunately very important) votes in the Senate. And their ideas weren’t considered? Cry me a river.
You Do realize that is a VERY old union vid that was shot with both straight and #$%^ audio tracks don’t you?
same dude ran the @#$% version as the straight version.
this was a PRO-LABOR VID!
call the fucking whaaaaaaaambulance
the repuglitards didn’t like being shut out of the entire process ???
they ain’t gonna enjoy the next two years very much
and then it gets WORSE for them, cuz their hissy fits ain’t gonna matter any more
I don’t see much difference in this analysis and that of quite a few stellar FDL posters.
they are still taking their walking orders from the man that caused them to lose their majority and power
make no mistake about this, while they are forced to listen to rush by his presence, they willingly listen to karl rove even thought it’s his “strategy” that took power from them
rove is going with that “obama is the worst in history” to get that talk from the bush legasy
so there you have it, expect to see tons more of the same
the thing is, when they are voted out of office, the only way they will have gainful employment when they leave is if obama’s plan works.
Well to be fair, the wingnut gave him a month first, while many of the FDLers attached that label on Nov. 5th.
Ooh, internecine warfare.
It’s like my family’s gotten togther! ;-)
funny how some people think it’s fine to critisize members of the oposite party but not fine to critisize our own isn’t it
I will opose any president who bows to corporate pressure and I will call criminal any president who obstructs justice against treason
yet some people get offended
good to see you attaturk
lot’s o funny around here
Just an observation
As long as the Senate rules require 60 votes for cloture then the Republicans will continue to contaminate and water down needed legislation ie. health care, energy independence etc.
Good morning, Attaturk and pups.
Morning shit-for-brains is up telling us how
fucking stupid he isour grandchildren are the big losers in the stimulus bill. 3 weeks into a an effort to clean up 8 years of unprecedented recklessness that have brought us to the brink of ruin and now he wants fiscal restraint. There are no words to adequately define my loathing for assholes like him.Nice to see you Raven.
Damn, the dress and production values made me think it was shot yesterday on Hi-def. Thank dog you clarified.
Oh, and when I watched it yesterday before knowing anything about the story, I assumed it was made by Liberals since it’s actually kind of funny. Repubs aren’t capable of making something that’s actually clever and funny. Just not in the genes. Not anything wrong with that…just simply a fact, bless their hearts.
So we have a spoof video with a funny version made just for internal use, probably for some dinner/roast event back then, and then sent out OFFICIALLY from Cantor’s office in an OFFICIAL response to efforts to stave off another Great Depression, just as all the Labor leaders said yesterday in response:
http://theplumline.whorunsgov……-as-goons/
It’s a story because of the incredible tone-deafness and hypocrisy of a Repub “leader” who has been actively trying to scuttle any attempts to stop more suffering in America. This from a Repub Party that laughs hysterically and drinks wine in their tuxes, while their leader makes official joke videos at televised events about not finding WMDs under tables and behind curtains, at the exact same time while thousands of US Troops are dying in Iraq (plus, as further proof of a point made above, Shrub’s video was just plain stupid and lacked anything even remotely close to being funny).
What was your point again?
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Cohen and Kristof this morning. Ms. Collins gives us “The Stump Theory,” in which she says a 10-year-old Sussex spaniel named Stump won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club. Yet another sign of the emerging trend of 2009: Old is in. Wow — I’m finally in! Mr. Cohen, in “Iran’s Inner America,” says in Iran, people under 30 thirst for contact with the outside world and, above all, an America that looms with all the power of myth. Mr. Kristof, in “Escaping the Bust Bowl,” says America’s horror of “nationalization” could be defused by handing out shares to all American households.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got banana pancakes this morning. Hoover finally decided to come home last night after not being seen for 48 hours. We’re so relieved to have him back we may just kill him… He’s going to be kept inside for a day or two. Have a great day.
The similarity is striking, isn’t it?
shhh, you’ll wake em up
Things would have been so much better with McCain/Palin in charge… /s
Spaniels!
yo
I thought this entry was about the Senate amendment sponsored by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) that denied arts in the stimulus package (while comparing theaters, concert halls and museums to golf courses and casinos! It passed and a lot of Dems voted for it…no New Deal here. A Guote from Chicago Tribune Opion Piece bt Chris Jones: “The argument that the labor-intensive arts are not job-creation engines is patently absurd; they just fuel different kinds of struggling workers, workers unaccustomed to bonuses.”
And now, some levity (and blogwhoring)
OH NOZE, the President’s at Ford’s theatre and within the spitting range of John Wilkes Doofus!
Everyone knows that spaniels are the best of all dogs, don’t they?
funny, they just had a member of the lincoln family on the radio
It’s about balance. Of course, we should stay critical and active in trying to influence politicians and how they vote, but I’ll be happy if I never read this sentiment again, since it completely misses the point:
Honestly, this is just silly. The point is that Obama has done some truly incredible things so far as Prez, did incredible things during the campaign, and has done incredible things throughout his life, yet for many around here he can do no right, and this was true since he declared he was running. Issues we as Liberals have championed ever since I can remember are being advanced more rapidly than anytime I’ve ever seen in my life. There is a lot to be happy about right now.
And a larger point for me at least, is that I think growing the New Media much larger than it is now is key to sustaining a Liberal future in America, and this almost comical “Obama sucks” and “Obama is stupid and naive” theme that dominates many of the top Liberal blogs, comments sections especially, is not helping us gain more audience. In fact, I’ve been told by several people that I had check out “blogs” for the first time, including here, report back to me that they didn’t really like it because of the “whining” and “unrealistic” criticism of Obama in particular. And these are very Liberal people who have many of the same concerns we do about the Cabinet picks, FISA, and so on! So I wonder if it’s actually decreasing our numbers.
Holding politicans’ feet to the fire is fantastic. However, in Obama’s case at least, he didn’t make the rules in DeeCee, but he is certainly shaking shit up there. He’s made many moves already to systematically change a lot of the bad stuff. I find much of the criticism you talk about to be completely ignorant of these dynamics that Obama is working within. Plus, he has a history of often thinking several steps ahead and delivering actual, you know, results. During the campaign he driving many of us crazy as we were sure he shooting himself in the foot, only to go on to a landslide win. Hmmm…maybe that’s part of it…how he proven much of the Liberal blog conventional wisdom wrong? Never thought of it that before…
Anyway, again the main point for me on this issue is balance between the postive and negative things that re happening right now. I think the balance is way off in cases. Yin-yang, brutha.
Guardian has a good peice on the crash.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/comm…..-recession
Not just greedy banksters caused the current problem but the fetish of free markets and deregulation.
Thanks ‘turk! If only the Senate Majority Leader had the stones to force the Republicans to filibuster (progressive) legislation, standing up in front of American with nothing but their self righteous, arrogant, self serving bullshit it would show the people just how hollow the conservative agenda is. I think enough of the three digit I.Q. Republicans would cross the aisle, pass a cloture vote and pass legislation that would help the American workers, not just benefit the owners of big business and big media.
Most sane economists agree the stimulus package is half-assed and will not live up to the hype. More stimulus and less tax cuts would have been more effective.
Bluetoe2
thanx for that link!
bonkers, thanx for the measured post, I appreciate the time you put into that response
my job is to hold my critters feet to the fire, obama has done quite a bit to impress me, he’s also done quite a bit to alarm me
you will hear from me both sides of that coin 2 b sure
this bill is too small, in a bill that’s too small entirely it then goes ahead and gives 35 percent to tax reduction
that’s not only counter productive it also sends the precise wrong message, tax reduction is what caused this problem so even if the bill worked it would derail itself and the economic message that needs to be made
now, if those tax cuts were taken out for those making upper class wages that might make sense
if obama was obligated to some tax cutting that should have been performance based which might have sent the right signal
now as far as his doj, sorry, they have indicated they are going to accept the bizarre position of bush and the claim of “states secrets as being good enough for a judge”
I will hold his feet to the fire and becuase I do that this bill has already been amended to be a little more progressive then the one obama was willing to sign off
so we’re all pulling for the same thing
And speaking of whiny rethugs:
Have been watching rerun of yesterday pb hearing with opening statements from congresscritters. Rather than saying *word one* about the subject under discussion, one of the classic assholes (recognized the face but C-Span didn’t provide his name) spent his entire statement b*tchin’ about the stimpack and thugs being shut out of the process. Stupak (D) said nothing in rebuttal…….uncertain whether that was bad or good……grates my last nerve that the thug was allowed to get away with such a statement; OTOH, just leaving what he said sitting out there sorta pointed out what an ass he had proved himself to be. :-(
Good Morning. I’m bumming, big time, over the lack of stimulus bill. Is Obama still pushing for everyone to party? Which, btw, was the dumbest idea ever.
Thank you, Susan Collins, for protecting America
from the dire threat posed by whistleblowers.
It’s people like you who give me hope for this country.
btw, as far as the doj, this is promising;
however we have found out subpeona means nothing so let’s see where that goes
Well said.
the term “whistleblower” in some circles is a synonim for “rat fink”
that’s a problem when it comes to “whistleblower laws”, we need a new term, something like;
“watchdog protection laws” or “sentry protection”…something like that would help our position
Old is in? Oh, my, why are all those 20-something chicks outside pounding on my door?
JoeScar was blathering this morn about some pork Pelosi put in protecting some mouse (or something). I hate to rely on Joe’s word, anyone know anything about that?
From NYT
It’s about time this scam saw the light of day.
Obi has done some good stuff and we are grateful. But he messed up stuff too and stuff he should not be messing up.
There’s no reason he can’t abandon the US policy by executive order toward Cuba, End the embargo etc.
There’s no reason why he can’t order the Black sites closed, all torture ended and those who engaged ordered to be held accountable and reviewed for their job performance.
There’s no reason why he can’t have a FULL spectrum of economic advisors, even right and FAR left and listen to all and given each a platform to speak to the people.
There’s lots of things he could and should do or have done by executive order the moment he got into office, prepared during transition.
I believe ethanol needs hemp to be cost effective, we need to legalize those crops
Who said Rethugs weren’t corrupt?
A teebee studio just for Rethugs.
A $50K van with 6 captain’s chairs and all the trick shit.
Good morning.
If no one’s said it yet (or even if the have), happy 200th birthday to Charles Darwin.
I’ll go along with hemp but ethanol is pure bullshit.
I keep wondering about protection for our food supply. Has O done anything about that yet? I fear that if/when they start testing our beef there’s going to be a panic over mad cow.
There is so much to undo from the Bush years.
that doesn’t sound like a lot of money but
Back to the stimulus bill, there was talk yesterday that DiFi was trying to slip something in that would hurt net-neutrality. I’m assuming that didn’t get in. How about the $15,000 tax credit for buying a house? That in or out?
I’ve got Maria Barto-something of CNBC on my TV telling me that yesterday’s hearing was embarrassing because the congress men & women really don’t understand Wall Street.
This, of course, would imply she does.
This would be the same
cheerleaderCNBC anchor that last year said “Citi’s at $30/share, when are you ever gonna be able to buy Citi at that price again?”When, indeed? Citibank closed yesterday at $3.69/share.
I love it when the right wing of our country yells stuff like this from the bottom of the barrel. The echo it produces is hysterical!
*putting lid back on the barrel*
We won, you lost, so get over yourselves!
The Huffington Post has some tidbits:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..66186.html
Emphasis mine.
They don’t lose very well, do they?
My understanding is that it was reduced to $8,000 and shifted back to first time buyers only.
They did make it forgivable, however, and it must be used by Aug. 31 of this year.
I agree. Ds are so much better at losing than Rs.
How many more dangerous right wingers like this guy in Maine are there in our nation?…

James Cummings was shot and killed by his wife at the end of last year because she feared for her life. She has yet to be charged with the killing and now we’re finding out James Cummings was a white supremacist who had chemicals in his possession at the time of his death that could have been used to make a ‘dirty bomb’. Apparently, literature was found on how to make a ‘dirty bomb’.
LOL No they don’t and I am loving it! Every so often we should lift the cover of the barrel just to hear what they’re whining about!
Well, at least that makes sense (the first-time buyer clause). Don’t understand the deadline, but no biggie.
Would you rather the Democrats be a version of the Republicans in that, no matter what, they agree simply because a Republican said/did whatever?
Not me. I think Dems are the ones to hold a Dem President and Congress’ feet to the fire.
The deadline is probably oriented to get it up-fronted, to create as much demand asap, but the expiration date means that many otherwise qualified folks will probably be cut out because they won’t get the paperwork done in time. Wanna bet it’s extended when the time comes?
in addition, bush’s “stimulus” was over a trillion dollars and helped create this probelm
YIKES
“
The general strike in Guadeloupe running in tandem with the situation in Europe took a dramatic turn for the worse yesterday and I regret that it will be necessary to remove the entire Swan charter fleet from the island base in Pointe a Pitre.
Three of our captains are long term residents of the island and they strongly support this action – they feel it has become necessary to do this to preserve not only their own safety but ensure the continued integrity of our Caribbean operations.
Two yachts have already left but two captains are waiting to see how the situation develops as they have domestic responsibilities which would make leaving the island for any length of time difficult. But they will leave if they have to.
Racial tensions have been building up in Guadeloupe over the past week and the absence of food, water and power has created a politically charged and dangerous social situation.
A serious crisis has been evolving this week to the extent that the local population has little food and water left. Inevitably this will put pressure on a situation that could quickly evolve into civil unrest.
The deteriorating situation during this current week has not been well reported locally in the Caribbean or internationally. Following a crisis meeting at the Guadeloupe Prefecture today the authorities are now mobilising the police and armed forces to cope with a strike situation that is predicted to last as long as one month.
Our captains had been staying on their individual yachts as they had not been able to travel to their Guadeloupe homes safely – most forms of transport, including private cars, are now at a standstill due to the lack of fuel in the country. Armed gangs are blockading routes and white French nationals are suddenly being randomly targeted, causing many residents to begin to fear for their safety.
The captains are predicting a good chance of severe civil unrest next week – under these circumstances we were compelled to move the fleet 20 miles south to Les Saintes a) where it is safer and b) where most shops and businesses are still open – this is only an anchoring area with no marina facility. If things do not improve in Guadeloupe very quickly we will then temporarily relocate the fleet to Antigua.”
FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique – Protests over living costs in the French Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe have shuttered businesses and paralyzed roadways, prompting France to send mediators to resolve the dispute.
Roughly 50,000 islanders have participated in Guadeloupe’s three-week strike, while an estimated 11,000 have joined the throngs in Martinique, where the protest entered its seventh day on Wednesday, police said. Union leaders dispute those figures, arguing crowds have been double that size.
Those on strike represent a wide range of departments in the public sector, including transportation, education, and sanitation, services that have been paralyzed on both islands.
So, the result is the administration has both Dems and Republicans screaming continuously over just about everything. It seems to me that it should be a matter of judegement, when and how often you criticize, without sinking the ship. Otherwise, it just results in ultimate victory for the more unfied side, as we’ve seen with regard to Republican dominance for the last 25 years.
Great. Morning Swim is blocked as porn again.
A style point
You really need a minimum of 5-6 unrelated grafs to elapse after a reference to canned shit before you mention rim shots.
Whatta bunch of babies. Someone should bring up Gingrich shutting down the government because he got a crappy seat on the plane. It would be twofer: It would emphasize that the same old same old is going on here and it would help to tarnish his current comeback tour.
The Repukes never come up with original ideas do they? Like that “worst president ever” thing……….just spin it around and point it at somebody else…..YAAAAAAWWWWWNNNNNnnn
“What say you Transportation Secretary, and Republican, Roy LaHood?”
:) I’m pretty sure you mean *Ray* LaHood
