Nutritionists who help to consul parents on eating habits.

Consultations to the schools and doctors.

Saving the health of poorer children so that there are not so many emergency doctor visits. Saving the health of children so that they may be more healthful as adults. Saving the government from having to spend limited Medicare/Medicaid dollars when an illness could have been prevented through nutrition.

And that’s just off the top of my head without doing any further research.

So why do you hate children and love bombs and bullets? (and before you begin, there is a large portion of the Defense budget available for military equipment costs. It’s called “Operations and Maintenance.”)

Let’s get back to taking care of Americans.

Defense dollars do not give you “more bang for the buck” as the items purchased by defense either sit in warehouses doing nothing (in the best case scenario) or are used to kill people.

That does not get money flowing through the economy.

The fact is that Repubs want to destroy the following:

workers’ unions, public education, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Public parks and public land.

Repubs do everything they can to destroy these programs. But, they cannot expose the truth of their intentions because most of their constituents would not support them if they knew the truth. So they hide it with excuses pertaining to insolvency and lack of funding (caused by their own tax cuts).

How does an argument against increased defense spending make sense in the current world climate with an unstable China, Russia showing shades of the USSR, Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and etc. Many of our vehicles are out of date. We need more $ for F-22 fighter planes, and then even more when the F-35s are ready for mass production. Plus we need all the intelligence resources money can buy.

To assist in understanding why “Defense Spending” trumps everything else and why we spend more on “defense” every year than the entire rest of the world combined along with having 11 super carrier groups I recommend reading the following; “The New American Militarism” by Andrew J Bacevich-A noted conservative, however if this fact keeps you from reading this I would like to add this. This is a nonpartisan book that examines history and assesses the reasons why we act more like imperial England in the 19th century than what our ideals say we are. This is, I berlieve, an excellent book that has given me some insites on why we go to war and why our generals are against closing down Iraq, dispite the agreement that bush signed saying we would be totally gone from Iraq by 2011. This is a powerful and compelling book and if you really want to understand how we got into this fix and why it will be hard to get out of it-and why Ike was so prescient when he made his speech on the military industrial complex-then read this book.

If the republican party expects to survive maybe they should come down from the hill and take a look around.
The people are pretty fed up with congress as it is they still have extremely low approval ratings. If this economy gets any worse people will take it out on the repukes for stalling this bill.

The F22 is not needed. Right now, the current fighter arsenal in use by the USAF and Navy are still far superior to anything anyone else is using in their military.

Many of our vehicles are not so much out of date as they are in desperate need of repair from the abuse of being used in desert climates because of a war of choice. We don’t need new generation aircraft carriers and submarines. We don’t need new Bradleys or Abrams to fight unconventional war fare.

China is in 2nd place behind the US in defense spending. We spend almost 7 times (yes, 7 TIMES!!) as much as China does each year. We spend about the same as the entire world does combined on military spending.

Kids are being coddled way too much in today’s liberal society. At some point they have to be shown tough love. Make them learn self-reliance. The real reason crime is up is because children never emotionally mature nowadays because they’re depending on free government handouts their whole childhood. You never learn that way.

Aren’t the costs of the Iraq and Afghan Invasions not even included in the year-end Defense Budgets? OMG. I used to work at Napa State Hospital. As a matter of fact, b/c of the 3 years I worked there, I get a small pension from the state of California. Not sure I’ll get my check this month, though.

I have NSH in my service area as a business agent for IUOE Stationary Engineers Local 39! And I love/d the Cramps. The ‘patients’ now have asked to be referred to as ‘individuals’ by staff, and thank god they are kept out of the prison system (for those who are at the hospital because they lacked competancy to proceed in a criminl prosecution).

Child Nutrition could be stimulative if they are fed better things made/grown by people who need the work. Did you think only some narrow range of work qualifies as WORK?

Sure, building military stuff is important and stimulative, but it might be as wasteful was digging ditches. It all depends upon the necessity. My guess is the Pentagon already has all the necessary stuff, and more, in their budget proposal. Is there some irregular one-off spending being proposed for the Pentagon?
