Boo yah. A sampling of smackdowns across the internets:
– As ever, digby:
[Graham] was whining and fulminating and pretty much working himself into a frenzy. Which means this is an orchestrated hissy fit.
– Who’da thunk it only a coupla years back? Joe Klein, with the assist:
The point is, when people are actually working–as opposed to working out their Oedipal crises in the Oval Office–they tend to want to roll up their sleeves and get comfortable. George W. Bush could have come to work in a tuxedo and still been a lousy President; Barack Obama will do just fine in shirtsleeves, I predict.
In the meantime, Andy Card, you join Dick Cheney on the expired list: Please. Go. Away.
S-s-s-s-s-s-smokin’. Card might want to check his facts, too.
– A bit of biting whimsy from LGM:
It nearly goes without saying that Dick Cheney proved to be one of the nation’s greatest natural catastrophes — a Dust Bowl in human form, the Spanish Flu incarnate — and as such, he merits our enduring scrutiny.
That leper ain’t gonna change his spots, nosiree.
The stupid has made me so tired. Can’t I just lay down now?
Oh, if I had a nickel every time I felt that way, I’d be rich, wealthy and "thocially thecure."
– This one really will leave a mark, from Jack and Jill Politics:
The original email, in addition to being racist, inhumane and evil, doesn’t even make sense. Let’s try to answer Carol’s questions.
How can two million black folks get to DC in one day?
Easy, black people have been planning this trip for a few hundred years, and because of the institutionalized racism and injustice woven into the very fabric of this country, black people have mad experience rolling to DC in large numbers. However, that’s not something I expect an ignorant ass Florida Republican to consider when posing rhetorical questions to her political colleagues.
Damn. That’s just hawt.

I love that picture. *g*
Republican senators say that what the three million people who have lost their jobs in the past year really need is an income tax cut. That kind of stupidity isn’t just born naturally, it needs to be carefully cultivated.
From Paul Krugman today:
Clichés, it is all they have.
“A Dust Bowl in human form” ?????? Oh shit. Love it!
oo this is gonna be fun
Morning Christy
hope it isn’t as freezing ass cold there as it is here.
Lindsay Graham in two words: drama queen.
If he were a two-year-old, I’d put him in the time-out chair in the seldom-used living room, where the tantrum can’t be heard.
Good Morning, Thanks for alittle outrage..that’s my spirit as well after trying all day yesterday, again this morning to leave my futile stimulus message to a TX Repub who will never care what I think. Where are the Senators who want to hear that the folks spoke and voted in Nov? I do not want to hear what Newt or Matalin etc etc etc think about what the Pres. should be doing. Enough said. Thanks
Does it sound eerily close to “Let them eat cake?”
Obama should go on a whistle stop tour across the country to gain support for the Stimulus Bill. He should go to every state with an obstructionist Senator.
I just left a comment in the last thread about the servers at this service area yesterday and what they were saying about Repugs and them blocking the stimulus bill.
They were very vocal, we had some time talk since they were slow and they were pissed. Smackddowns by the hard working people who are directly impacted by all of this and live. Perhaps a counterbalance to the toxic spewing pundits on Sunday morning talk shows is in the making.
with his Hello Kitty toy
I’ve been saying the same thing. get JTB out there, too.
It nearly goes without saying that Dick Cheney proved to be one of the nation’s greatest natural catastrophes — a Dust Bowl in human form, the Spanish Flu incarnate — and as such, he merits our enduring scrutiny.
as I pointed out in my diary
the REAL reason cheney doesn’t want obama to close gitmo, the REAL reason he wouldn’t let bush close gitmo, haliburton will lose millions if they close gitmo
true
It is so freezing ass cold here. I thought my hands were going to freeze off — in gloves — scraping the ice off my windshield this morning to run The Peanut over to school. Brrrrrrr….
Hot coffee, anyone?
ooof
we can dream!
morning MM. .)
I loved that one. hehehe
Absolutely!
Obama has been ratcheting up his retort every day lately. If the bill isn’t at least in conference by Monday I expect that his Monday night address will be brutal.
I guess I’m rich in the ‘just lay down now’ dept.
gotta run but am so damn glad for team Obama in general and what they are trying to do in taking back out Country and logic, reason, reality!!
Its been a cold winter all right but perhaps spring will be early….
can’t beleive that the media is still so pro republican- what is their problem? brains folks-use em if you got em!
hope the cold hasn’t ruined winter for the peanut
I thought we could all use a bit of a giggle on this Friday morning…
oh Christy, I got a wee bit of frostbite from that, and didn’t realize it at first, you be very careful about that.
Morning E, what a great round table it would be with some of those over inflated helium headaches against real honest hardworking people. Or even a cage match.
cage match, I’d pay to see that.
I wasn’t out in the cold long enough for that to happen, but I keep an eye on it. I ran back in the house when I got home and put on my warmest slippers. Brrrrrr….
She’s been loving this winter because they keep having snow days. *g*
Headlines of this morning’s LA Times:
Paring down a stimulus bill is like taking half the prescribed dose of an antibiotic; what doesn’t kill the disease makes it stronger.
Nothing could be more wasteful than WW II, but that wasteful spending got us out of the Great Depression. Duh!
That is an illegal tackle which will be followed by a penalty and a warning to the player. If the player is a repeat offender he will be asked to leave the pitch and will be suspended for the next game pending an inquiry.
According to TPM, here are the cuts to the sciences are being proposed by the Collins-Nelson consortuium:
NASA exploration $750,000,000 = 50%
NSF $1,402,000,000 = 100%
NOAA $427,000,000 = 34.94%
NIST $218,000,000 = 37.91%
DOE energy efficiency & renewable energy $1,000,000,000 = 38%
DOE office of science $100,000,000 = 100%
Are they crazy?
Well, it clearly should be an illegal tackle, given the potential repercussions for neck injury from something like that. But the photo is really an awesome capture of the moment — well done snap, I have to say, from the photographer to catch the moment of impact and the expression on the tackle-ee’s face.
Most likely. This has been another edition of…
You know, a congressional time out chair is sounding pretty damned good to me this morning, I have to say.
“Illegal, but gratifying…heh heh heh.”

Yep good photo no doubt.
nonplussed at 30
Yes
Wellll how nice (in best southern drawl) , Lindsey got all the attention & Barbara Boxer’s retaliation got hardly any play.
yes.
this has been another addition of…
For years one of the most dangerous locations to be in DC was between Senator Graham and a television camera.
I think that goes a long way in explaining Senator Graham’s orchestrated hissy fit. Specifically, I think Senator Graham’s over the top performance has more to do with South Carolina’s other demented Senator, Senator DeMint, getting too much air time, than any objections he might have to the Stimulus Plan.
Obama needs to communicate to the people that Republicans are threatening the survival of the Republic by their obstructionism.
too dangerous
i prefer fireside chats
Rugby is a game in which it is easy to hurt someone by doing unsportsmanlike things which is why there are strong laws. That a bush would ignore the good sportsmanship and commit an illegal act is not in anyway surprising.
PS has NPR ever interviewed a Democrat?
flyin’ by –
Jon Stewart’s smackdown of Dick last night was priceless.
From Joke Line to “you can call me MISTER Klein.” Joe’s been polishing his chops by reading FDL methinks.
Dick Cheney on the expired list? Christy, I could have sworn you or Jane wrote that last year! *g*
The MSM all have email/contact addys. Ask ‘em why.
Everybody.
Ask ‘em why.
I think that’s a likely catalyst, I have to say. “Where’s my face time?”
Did anyone see Lindsay flicking bits of foam off his’n lips during the tie-raid? If not, it’s fake. He’s just xercisin’ his right to make a total #%$$ of hisownself in full public view. Next?
That a bush would ignore the good sportsmanship and commit an illegal act is not in anyway surprising.
Indeed. Template of his life.
Oh, my manners! dear me!
A beautiful sunny good morning to you Christy and Puppies!
Wittle Winnsley,is porking out lately, too much of the good life with Sin-di-lou and BIG BAD JOHN
I do believe you mean this clip
Expired? If the good die young, I would guess Cheney will live forever. He deserves it.
I have a college friend whose remarriage necessitated a move to SC. When I asked her how she reconciles having to live in a state that had Graham and Demint as senators, her response was classic.
The word “Graham”, uttered with an ironic smile, is her tell to her new hubby when he needs to pay attention, make an effort.
The NYT’s is basically telling to quit f*cking around with the Returds.
BACK ATCHA..my pipes broke yesstiddy waiting for the plumber, hopefully NOT JOE
NPR’s Dianne Rehm show will be on at 10:00 a.m. EST. She recaps the weeks news with the usual inside the Beltway Villagers. It’s a call in show. Would be good if some Pups could call in and expose the Republicans for the obstructionists that they are and duplicity and ignorance of the Beltway Brahmins.

This is a widely listened to program so if you get through you’ll be heard by millions.
Nice!
Oh, that is hilarious!
Worried that Americans can’t handle the truth?
We have several businesses who have just announced severe cutbacks and/or plant closings in the area. Considering how many people will be impacted and the ripple effect of this, it’s causing a LOT of concern here. We’re usually on the back edge of the curve, so if we’re getting hit this hard at this point, I can only imagine how bad it is in other areas. I know it’s been rough in Michigan, for example, for a while. Would that we’d paid more attention to leading indicators instead of dismissively ignoring them, eh?
Good Morning Christy and Firedogs,
recently, a local inbred announced to the tavern Pres Obama was to make Juneteenth a national holiday – knee slaps and solid yuks all ’round
. . . until the ‘little hippy gal’ in the corner rejoined with “I hear he’s to do the same with Appomattox”
damn this sh*t is tired
The only contacts our heroic press corp has on their speed dials have an R after their name – it is up to our Dems to change that & fight for more face time.
I am truly surprised Huckleberry wasn’t struck by lightning when he said that…
Sorry for bad grammar, my fingers are sometimes faster than my brain.
On the Edge This is Krugman’s article today.
Mine… losing .5 million jobs a month and a crapy stimulus package without state government help is insanity. I see the reduced hours and lower hourly rates in our local work force.
Crime will grow, spousal and child abuse will grow. Already food prices are rising around the world.
This will be a deprssion for the poor and the middle class. The stock market shrugs of the reports of the largest job losses in decades.
The people that kept this economy going through the Bush bubble don’t have the disposable income…working or not…their equity is shrunk below their comfort zone. Bush knew this last year when he gave out the stimulus to delay this until he was out of office.
Where are the hearings? There is no bipatisanhip.
Love it – Confederate Loser Day!
Your’e probably right about it being too dangerous but at some point it’s incumbent for Americans to learn of the true nature of the Republican Party. They are a fifth column in the body politic committed to the destruction of the middle and working classes.
Me, too, to tell you the truth. His abysmal performance on the MCA flashed through my brain in an instant. Although, honestly, I’d prefer he be struck dumb for a while — silence can be golden, you know. *g*
Tired is right…outlandish, de-humanizing, ignorant. Is it as tragic as “they know not what they do”? I do not know.
that last was to cbl2 @ 60
Learned last night that my teaching responsibilities are in all likelihood going to be reduced drastically because of declining enrollment.
G’mornin’ all !
Passing Coffee … with a hit of Bailey’s … to all my Lake friends
Sorry to hear that for you — and for your students.
Perhaps we can send Lindsey scraps of brocade curtain fabric and he can find a DC seamstress to fashion a gown he can wear on the Senate floor. A few fashion accessories like a hoop skirt, fan & gloves would make the outfit.
I’m glad that Krugman and Obama are beginning to attack the Republicans for their dangerously crazy positions. Not only are these the same guys who are primarily responsible for the current economic collapse they would follow the example of their forebears in the 30s and do everything they can to plunge us into depression.
It should be said early and often that they have less than no credibility on this. Anyone who shows up in the media should ask why these nutcases are being treated as if they were people with serious ideas rather than fools with a well known record of disaster behind them.
looks like Michael Steele’s doin’ a little smackdown himself
Has this been up: NYT reporting 598,000 jobs lost. Stimulus anyone? Or tax cuts for the jobless, as sad above.
Am I the only one who is simply incapable of watching ‘ Morning Joe?’
This show was never very good, but in the last two weeks it is like watching someone scrape their front teeth down a blackboard.
Yep, if these ol’ Repubs and BlueDogs think they can bully the Lanky kid, they’re about to get a crash course
in street fighting.
Let the bastard filibuster, as the economy melts down. Let them go on filibustering for a week, even two or three. Every night the American people will see them on TV holding up necessary relief. And then if his stimulus doesn’t work out, Obama can say that the Republicans heldup the urgently needed remedy for far too long.
imworried about his safety…too many kooks out rhere
The old Carol Burnett Scarlett dress…he will be so cute.
Boo hoo! Wah! THe Dems and Obama are being mean to Wall St.!!
Wahh!!
Thanks Christy. My “Beat the Depression” garden just got a little bigger.
oh man, bummer. sorry Bluetoe
gues Petro!! has the right idea
bad grammar?? around here??? OH MY HEAVENS! That will never never do!/s *g*
Ooh, thanks. My coffee pot had just gone dry…
Mine, too — mainly because we think several of our friends may have some trouble in the months ahead. So I’m upping my planting plans in case we need some extra produce to hand around — or just take over to the local soup kitchen.
Yeah, me too.
I’m sitting at my desk looking over the notes I took last night about what I want to put in the email I’m sending him today.
Who’s awol?
Who’s busy giving press interviews.
I’ll repeat what Rayne said: Drama Queen?
What are the Repubs doin? When Obama won the election, they all lost their woodies. Trying now to get them back. Too early for that kind of metaphor? Sorry.
i think fireside chats would be great….i sit by my fire
ALL THE TIME NOW
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
DANG! Lotta that going around. Wrong wrong wrong. I hope someone rethinks priorities in your neck of the woods. Good vibes from our household to yours!
Oh, that is SO not a mental image I needed today. Although the thought of Lindsey in that outfit Carol Burnett wore for her Scarlett O’Hara send-up does send me into a giggle fit… *G*
Don’t forget the Diane Rehm show.

btw, all, we may have a bit of a surprise for everyone in a few hours…thought you’d like a heads up that something may be coming down the pike today. :)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA GMTA!
… oops, forgot to add coffee to the Bailey’s … *g*
Oh boy. Oh boy. I like surprises. Thanks for the heads up.
Our friends in Labor are ‘conducting’ a virtual tour :)
…not that it’s being reported
Hi Petro. Lovely idea, except we’ve gotta drive off to therapy just now….which, I might add, is working beautifully… My honey hardly uses his cane at all, unless he’s gotta negotiate icey spots!
Any hopes for saving a thimble-fulla Baileys for later?? prettyplease? See ya…..
Thanks all. We’ll get through this if we stand united and committed.
And THAT’s all you’re going to say? Some of us do go to work…eventually.;)
Jane is replacin’ JoeScar ? WooHoo !
Love FDL surprises!
Adie !
There’s always a fresh bottle waitin’ for ya !
708!
Jane upstairs
There will be millions more of these stories by this time next years. Even with the stimulus. The states have cut their safety net programs. What will people do?
me too..needs to be removed from the air, annd KILLERJOE needs to be investigated, properly for the death of the intern
ilove ya
ditto
Need someone to photoshop that one for the Lake.
Well, honestly, imagine if everyone pitched in — just a little — like that. It could potentially make a little dent in some of the need for very little outlay overall for a lot of folks who already garden.
We’ve been doing that sort of thing in our community for a while — a coordinated effort to plant a few extra tomato plants or peppers or whatever and then using the surplus for the local soup kitchen or to give out to the neighbors. There is a columnist in the local paper who encourages it. Imagine if we had that sort of thing going on all over the country?
Wouldn’t it be nice to feel a shared responsibility for each other instead of the “mine, mine, mine” bs alla time?
You’ve got it all Christy – head, heart & hands.
Some of us are at work (and may do some eventually).
That is an excellent idea, Christy. Many of us do that with produce from our Gardens.
I know what you mean *s*
No. I tried once and lasted about 2½ minutes before I swore at the cat.
Great. The next thread is flagged as porn by the cybernannies. Does ANYONE have any idea what tags could be generating that?
Didja catch Buchanan comparing the Stimulus Bill to a New Car ? How many drinks does it take to come up with that talking point ?
ROFL … wait’ll Jane hears about that.
Poor kitty…
Perhaps because it include the word “stimulus”? ROFL
exactly….my thoughts,exactly
bad acid……….g
Stimulus, point, whip, James E. Klyburn …
In the Words of St. Hillary, it is the RIGHT of the American people to express dissent and yes, obstruct, bad legislation when it is dangerous to the Republican and this Porkulus bill is truly dangerous to the Republic.
… and lots of it !
Waaaah!
Americans know that doing nothing is better than the bill currently on the Senate floor…
Those must be the same Americans that think the Earth is Flat.
… must.resist.feeding. …
It’s really hard isn’t it? It presents such an easy target!
Yep! These moderates are sort of like the moderates on the Court of The Inquisition. This is “push us back into the Dark Ages” stuff.
Yeah, why they show up here and on Marcy’s site is beyond logic … then again, absence of logic is a prerequisite to being a troll.
Surprise!
Great observation! I’d bet Obama could pick up points with the GOP base if he insisted on a 100% tax cut for those out of work. Till they caught on, anyways. And, yes, I know that unemployment benefits are taxable. Shouldn’t be.
FROM THE GREAT JEFF HUBER: “…a three-ring shopping spree [in Baghdad] for John McCain and his gal pal Lindsey Graham…”
