First it was the economists, then the governors (and GOP ones like Schwarzenegger at that). Now it’s the mayors’ turn to beg the Republicans in the Senate and their Blue Dog buddies to stop screwing around and vote for the stimulus already:
“We’re here to support the president’s call for an economic stimulus package,” said Miami Mayor Manny Diaz. "We need to get something passed. … We’re asking Congress to act."
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa took a sharper tone toward Congress, declaring: "It’s time to stop bickering and start negotiating."
The mayors met with top White House aides, including Valerie Jarrett and Cecelia Munoz, according to Palatine, Ill., Mayor Rita Mullins. And the group is headed to the Hill next to meet with Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
I find it interesting that they’re going to meet with Pelosi, being that the House version of the bill has already passed. Are they perhaps planning to undo some of the many concessions Obama and Pelosi made to the bill in the failed bid to get Republicans to back it?
Come on, Republicans. Stop hurting America. Don’t try to wreck the country just so you can score points in 2010. There may not be elections — or even a functioning country — by 2010 if you keep screwing us all on this one.

goopers!
Zaxtly! Hey PW.
Digg
“It’s time to stop bickering and start negotiating.”
It’s time to stop the douchebaggery and stop negotiating. My view
I wish that Arizona would not receive any stimulus money. Then the Republicans legislature would have to take another $500 million out of their budget. Then, perhaps, there might be many upset voters who would tell them to raise state taxes.
Dugg Neuro and I did leave You a Comment that says: The Repukes are just ass Obstructionist! PBO needs to tell them “To get the F#ck outta my Sand Box”.
Sounds like the Blue Dogs will kill it no matter what, demonstrating the fallacy of the “super majority.” Personally, I suspect the Democratic leaders would find a way fuck it up even if they controlled every seat in the House and Senate.
I just received the lastest “newsletter” from my dirtbag congresstard, Ken Calvert. (One of the 20 most corrupt in congress, three years running.) Do you think any discussion of the most important topic of the day was to be found in his rag? Of course not. Instead, he concentrated on fear baiting about the hordes of illegal aliens who are going to steal medical care from his constituents. And the “Democrat” party is responsible for the whole thing, of course. This fucking guy is beyond clueless. Can we please start mobilizing to get this Limbaugh Wannabe thrown out in 2010?
Why am I saying this here? Because this fucktard constantly rubs elbows with mayors in his district and they refuse to slap him down. I’m guessing this situation exists all around the country. It’s time to put the heat on the mayors, I guess. Whatever works…
It’s close to time for Obama to take on the goopers on this issue- explain the plan and why it’s needed and then ask the american people to go after the goopers for creating a problem and then refusing to help solve it- even after he has gone overboard to create opportunities for them to have real input….
In that regard, why isn’t the vaunted Obama email list being used by the WH? This issue would seem to warrant it.
Just watching Rep Russell Pierce head explode would be entertaining…..
It’s time to say good night, you silly dogs.
No kidding!
Nite Demi but isn’t it a bit early here on the west coast??
Woof woof woof and good night, Demi!
I’m guessing that’s coming shortly. As was stated on Countdown tonight, the problem was that Obama and his people apparently at first overestimated the decency of the Republicans and Blue Dogs — they thought that it was self-evident that a stimulus was necessary for the nation to survive. That’s why they didn’t hit the ground running with the media blitz and mayor/governor blitz two weeks ago.
Agreed. I just wrote Issa, for all the good that will do. Time for Obama to give a speech and engage the American people again.
Off to read a good novel by Joyce Carol Oats….just good night to my FDL friends. Tea, book and candle…sorry to Hitchcock for my usage. :)
No….. trying really hard to stay awake until after 9pm…… only 4 more days in this chemo cycle….. YEA …..
I’ve gotten a couple of e-mails from them
Ahrahooooooooo.
(((PW))
Shorter version: hubris.
I don’t understand how Obama would ever get the notion that the Rs would do anything to undermine him. Heck, he observed it for at least 2 of his 4 years in the senate. Is he that slow a learner?
Nighters, demi.
Our new governor can go poof too!
Dang. Hang in there katymine. Hugs.
That last was to katymine
Sorry I’m going to miss you tonight.
I’m still coming down later in the month.
Get the couch ready.
Ready!!
I truly believe the Republican Party would prefer to have their party survive rather than the nation. Sad for them…and potentially a tragedy of epic proportions for us all.
Seconded.
did you hear the bimbo rushed the budget over to the legislature so that she could go to the super bowl……. She is run by the chairman of the AZ Repugs….. what a tool…
It’s merely Demi’s prep to exiting the Lake… It’s the third ‘caio’ that counts…! Right, Demi…? ;-)
thanks, nahant. well put.
I think everyone who wants President Obama to succeed should start using the terms “obstructionist Republicans” or “Republican Obstructionists” at every opportunity. Use them to frame the debate. Especially the left or Democratic talking heads on TV.
If BHO isn’t going to do it, we need to do it for him.
Yep…always one more thing.
yep
The Rs were so amenable after the 2006 midterms, how could Obama possibly have predicted they’d be an obstacle now..?
I hope this bipartisan crap is his Plan A and that he has a Plan B but I’m not particularly optimistic in that regard.

Damnit! Let’s stop sniveling. The president needs to starting plums out of the Republican pudding slowly, one at a time.
The American public, the world, and, most of all, Republican contributors, need a stimulus package. And if it doesn’t work, someone will be the goat but the future reality will be what it will be.
If Obama keeps on adding plums to the pudding, each intransigent Republican congressman can claim credit for this or that plum. But if they continue intransigence and Obama has second thoughts about what financial burdens future generations can afford to shoulder, these same Republican intransigents will have to share blame for the plums that were withdrawn.
A White House stimulus bill will pass in any case. The question is whether the intransigent Republicans get credit for what was included or blame for what was withdrawn.
Aloha, Rev! And ya’ll…! ;-)
Exactly. As apposed to “Republican strategist.” Or spokesman.
And by the way? I hate Dick Cheney.
ugh. hearing Cheney talking on my TV (I lost the picture). creepy.
whatever happened to the time-honored tradition of former presnits and vpresnits giving their successors a decent opportunity to succeed before they start tearing them down?

Hi, C. You on the mountain?
Ciao, baby.
Had to stop by the computer on my way to get my tea. Hee.
RevBev: Just like Columbo.
A lot of Americans, who voted Republican for the last twenty years, are going to need welfare and food stamps to survive the next ten.
Oops! That showed up as not having been posted on my browser.
You think there are 60 senate votes? All the Blue Dogs + 2 Rs?
That is where I disagree….. the stimulation plan will not pass….. and so far to me it proves that the Obama administration CAN’T walk and chew gum……. so far this week they have blown nominations, the PR campaign (what PR campaign) on the bill it looks like we only got the two good bills out of this administration period…..
AZ wingnuts are flying high or smoking something. Go check out this post at Kos:
Janet Leaves Arizona and it goes to hell in a handbasket
Nope, rf! Tomorrow nite…! ;-) Ta-ta for now, I’ve a quick errand to run…
Hope you’re right. I also hope that Obama and his handlers are finally getting the idea that their colleagues on the other side of the aisle are committed to making this package fail at all costs…and damn the American people. Reaching out your hand to a Republican is like trying to cozy up to a hungry gator. Just not a good idea…
We need to hear more failed. Failed R administration, failed R policies, etc.
If we don’t get on that soon, we’re going to be hearing it re: Ds.
Speaking of Dick Cheney, here’s a way to raise some serious cash:
http://www.theonion.com/conten…..raises_800
The GOP is only part of the problem, the Dems can’t even muster all the votes on their own side of the aisle.
I don’t know, Matt, sounds like the standard John Birch Society talking points to me…
(((katymine!!))) Chemo cycles are a total drag, aren’t they?! Kick ass!!!
After what has transpired over the last six months, it’s time for a reality check. We are the punch-drunk fighter who Don King talks into getting into the ring one more time for the big payday yet our eyes are so swollen we can’t read the fine print that appears after the real ink has dried. We’re the alcoholic who can handle it this time around. See I’ve gone a month…. I’ll celebrate with just one drink……..
We’re the overweight person who drops 10 pounds and celebrates with a case of Jennie Craig brownies—low fat of course.
We are the guy who just got out of prison and, having learned more tricks of the trade while there, tries to rob a bank and gets caught. So much for the expert advice from the guys who have also gotten caught. Oh well, more time to plan the perfect heist.
The experts are all saying that now is the time to invest in the market with values so low—their income depends on you listening to them so that they can make a buck so, what’s not to trust?
I’m looking forward to seeing how all of these civilian and military “volunteer” plans are to be inserted into the rectum of mass unemployment. If you can bend over and even come close to touching your toes you’re hired–well, kinda’ hired–you OWE it to the fatherland..Oops, I mean your country to serve in indentured servitude.
The world is playing Russian roulette with a fully loaded Uzi and it’s just a matter of time before there is a round with your name on it. That’s where the smart money is placing their bets, how can they lose?
They can lose because there is no such thing as smart money. No sure thing when you screw with people that much and they wake up or subliminally hear the floorboards creaking in the middle of the night.
Those who lurk in the shadows and pull the strings will wake up one morning and find they are Gulliver, and the Lilliputians are ticked off….
Really ticked off……..lot’s of them………
It’s only taken 2 weeks to expose the Obama administration as rank amateurs. Guess Hillary was right.
If the thing fails, I don’t think the public memory is going to work that way. The right-wingers and the MSM are way too tight to let the message be framed that way. I hope I’m wrong.
Not sure what you mean…but that’s funny .)
How far up shitcreek without a paddle is Arizona now you ask?
HCR 2024
A concurrent RESOLUTION
claiming sovereignty under the tenth amendment to the constitution of the united states over certain powers, serving notice to the federal government to cease and desist certain mandates and providing that certain federal legislation be prohibited or repealed.
True. They’re a bunch of jagoffs, too. Somehow the debate has to be framed differently. Some catchy buzzwords that can make it to cable. Personally, I like referring to obstructionist behavior as “unamerican”.
The GOPers eat that shit up! It is manna from heaven for them.
What are the implications of this, exactly?
A lot of the Blue Dogs are from Rahm’s litter. Maybe Obama thought having Rahm as COS would force them to sit up and bark on command, instead they’re circling around to bite him on the ass.
Okay, I humbly disagree.
IMHO, Obama is extremely proficient at getting a message across, and he can blame the failure of his bill to pass on the intransigent remnants of the Republican party. And, the point is that he has no alternative. If he plays it their way, they’ll water it down to the point where it is sure to fail and then the failure will properly be on his hands.
Exactly!
watertiger upstairs
Interesting. The state of Washington passed the same bill a couple of days ago and Mass is considering the same. Do I spot a trend here? Hmmmmm.
I’d like to see some of the legal people look at this but it seems they are trying to get out of mandates like NCLB, free education to children, Medicaid, you name it but I thought that Federal law takes presidence over state law.
Just shut off all federal funds back to the state and tell the AZ legislature to go fuck themselves…..
Here’s another…..

New Hampshire HCR 6 Text
From Al Giordano:
Why aren’t they calling on Mitch McConnell, Cornyn, Boehner, Pence, et al? The DEMs want to pass this. It is the GOP obstructing.
I’m getting the feeling that the Repubs want to deal on the stimulus plan, but that they may have waited a day too long. Still, they were talking about the Housing problem today (and they may have some decent ideas), so whatever comes after the stimulus might benefit from their ideas.
If Repubs want to deal on the stimulus bill they have to offer a lot more than to cut it in half. If they can offer something which provides BIG benefits to everyone for $100B or less, then they’ve got a chance.
The biggest problem with their Housing ideas is that there’s great uncertainty how much and how fast people would use their plans. We need much more certainty and speed getting $$$$ out the door.
But, keep talking in any event. Housing is a serious issue everybody is talking about.
“As was stated on Countdown tonight, the problem was that Obama and his people apparently at first overestimated the decency of the Republicans and Blue Dogs…”
Yes, this is always a mistake. OTOH, underestimating the decency of GOPers and Blue Dogs is impossible. Hope PBO has learned this–we’re already 16 days into his failed presidency.
