If there’s one thing you can say about today’s conservatives they’ve brought back the evils of heredity without the messy hemophilia. Nobody has demonstrated this Peterless Genetic Principle more than various and sundry members of the Kagan family.
Today in the Washington Post, Robert Kagan, who makes working for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace an "oxymor(a)n", blathers about how spending money on the Defense Department is the ultimate stimulus — and not just in his pants.
Pentagon officials have leaked word that the Office of Management and Budget has ordered a 10 percent cut in defense spending for the coming fiscal year
Not only is this assertion unsourced, it is also completely false — so it must be a day ending in "y":
The Obama administration is reportedly capping the Pentagon’s 2010 budget for non-war spending at $527 billion, a level previously recommended by Bush administration officials. Despite the fact that this will represent an 8 percent increase over 2009 funding levels, conservative commentators are painting the cap as a budget cut.
For those of us in this world where being wrong actually means something — a spending increase that runs well ahead of inflation is not a "cut", let alone a ten percent cut figure you pulled out of a region just north of your taint.
But that’s close enough when you belong to our nation’s First Family of War Whores.

About Firedoglake
Attaboy, Attaturk! Nobody says it better.
[sigh]
Clearly their idea of “full employment” is World War. They no longer need to concern themselves with thoughts of a draft to fill the ranks needed to prosecute the ground wars of their wettest dreams, as they can now rely on the Great Bush/Cheney Depression to drive insolvent dads into the military’s waiting armaments, in search of a paycheck, in order to “put food on their families.”
How many coincidences are we all willing to accept before we recognize that the agenda is purposeful and calculated?
Quoting from bluebutterfly:
http://oxdown.firedoglake.com/diary/3396
Where’s the criticism of Obama for not cutting that insanely bloated budget in this time of desperate economic crisis?
If McCain won and proposed the same budget some of us lefties would be shrieking about the crazy increase.
I supported Obama since his keynote speech in ‘04, but he’s looking more and more like McCain light.
Good morning and thanks for the post, Attaturk.
BillWalker,
Don’t understand your comment re the budget. If you are still here, please help a hippie out.
they’re robber barons, they want everyone to rely on them, they want two classes of people, those that have and then everyone else
the sorry thing is it’s a game they’re playing and they don’t even realize they’re destroying the game not winning it
tax cuts didn’t work?
everyone knows they work, therefore we need more tax cuts
tax cuts make people take their money out of business instead of putting it back in business?
everyone knows tax cuts creates jobs so we need to cut taxes more to replace the jobs lost by tax cuts
tax cuts forces us to spend less on infrastructure?
everyone knows tax cuts result in MORE revenue, the way to pay for infrastructure is to lower taxes
these are people who’s strategy is to repeat their lie so often some people think it’s just a matter of opinion
they get to create a bizarre debate with their fantasy
it’s like if they went around time and time again to say that water is in fact dry not wet, they would say it often enough for people to question in their own mind if water really is wet
that is not an exageration either, they used that trick on “creationism” and they actually have gotten school districts to make it mandatory my kids learn magic and wizardry inn their frigging science class
because that would be an insane position to take
you don’t cut spending when you need to get people jobs you need to increase spending
you have somehow co-opted the neo-cons reasoning
when you need jobs you don’t cut jobs bill
The perils of being a Democrat.
we didn’t vote for obama to decrease the budget on domestic projects, we voted obama to cut spending on made up wars
obama is making a huge mistake giving more money to the banks, these are the very people who raped and pillaged our economy in the first place, giving them anything at all is obsurd
if we want more loans going out then WE should make those loans and remove the rediculous overhead created by the bankers
we do NOT need to give money to companie’s who can give as collateral their only asset as percieved value
when we give a loan we need hard collateral and money guarantees for direct jobs created and products produced, with HARD assets as collateral like buildings and equiptment, NOT the promise of a stock option
Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo and Herbert. Bobo is trying to be ironic. Bobo has produced an epic fail. In “Ward Three Morality” the son of a bitch actually thinks he’s being cute when he says rich people no longer get to set their own rules. Now they are set by people who live in Ward Three, a section of Northwest Washington, D.C. Right, Bobo… How DARE people who work for a living get annoyed about giving billions of dollars to people who see nothing wrong with taking it and using it to buy $35,000 dollar toilets for their offices? Listen up, you fucking moron, in this day and age buying a toilet that costs as much as I make in a year WITH MY TAX MONEY is immoral. Christ… Mr. Herbert writes about “Risking the Future.” He says we do not seem to learn much from history. Time and again an economic boom has followed a period of sustained infrastructure investment.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the apple walnut muffins are out of the oven. I’ve really not got much of anything else to say. Bobo’s made me VERY cross… Oh, it is the 50th anniversary of the day the music died. If it weren’t so cold and wintry I’d make Miss American Pie in honor of Buddy Holly. Have a great day.
I’m cross enough to forget the linky… D’oh… Here they are for real.
Perish the thought that the U.S. actually reduces it’s military spending! After all, the U.S. spends more on the military than the rest of the world combined and by damn we mean to keep it that way. Cut the military budget? Now your itchin for a fight.
The Republican mantra of “tax cuts” is the ecomomic cure all is the same as medieval barbers believing that bloodletting was the cure for all physical ailements. Today we laugh at the thought of bloodletting. Maybe in another 2 hundred years people will laugh at the notion that cutting taxes is the be all end all.
Good morning (though it’s not). My little dog was attacked by a fox last night. I’ve never even seen one, though I knew they were in the area. My poor dog was trying to get in and was right at my front door when we heard her crying or yelping or something. My daughter went to get her and the fox was attacking her right at my door. Well, she screamed and the fox backed off a few steps so she scooped up the dog and slammed the door. The dog (Solai) seems to only have a minor bite on her leg but we’re all spooked by the fear that the fox is rabid. Not to mention that now I’m afraid to go out at night.
uh, oh. when it’s bad enough to make marion cross and using the f word – watch out! *g*
morning all. the day’s hearing list is up at oxdown. there are hearings on the regulation of derivatives and on the banking crisis are on the agenda. also there is a link to a complete list (well, as complete as i can make it by going through all the committee websites, signing up for their emails, etc).
Morning All
Solai do you have an ag agency that might be able to help or send you to those who can?
solai! i hope you are your dog are ok. is there treatment that can be given to you dog? that doesn’t sound like normal fox behavior. good luck!
p.s. is your dog current on rabies vaccination?
The dog is protected. We’re contacting Public Health Nursing today regarding my daughter. She came in no contact with the fox but somehow she did get the slightest scratch on her hand.
Morning,
that’s pretty scary solai, you’ve got to call your vet.

Peace in Carnegie Endowment for International Peace refers to the quiet after the radioactive cloud disperses.
We’re also contacting Animal Control today, but we missed our opportunity to catch the fox.
so glad to hear that your dog is current. the scratch might have been anything but good idea to get it checked.
All tied to the war monger’s equation is the intentional beat down (by the IMF) of the price of oil in order to facilitate the bankruptcy of the Arab states as well as Russia and Venezuela.
The Ruble is getting crushed right now:

may i ask if you live in texas?
Now, on topic, the repubs never change. Fighting the stimulus pkg (and every thing else) with lies. I read at TPM that Steele said ‘
Central NY.
Kagan, the type of guy who’d go after a fly with a sledge hammer?
Thanks to the Military Industrial Complex, as the saying goes, when your only tool is a hammer, everything appears to be a nail.
Seems like the tipping point has been reached … and peace has left the equation in terms of an option in too many countries, especially Israel, with US supplying the massive weaponry. US should read a 12-step treatise on “enabling” and its destructiveness.
The collective egos of nations can become poisoned with vengeance-lust. Hyper-nationalistic group-think. “Demonizing” your enemy, creating codependent enmeshment with your own “tribe” against the “other” … incapable of separating out the common humanity in all people. Desensitization. Addiction to excitement, to anger, to violence, to imperialistic power, to intimidating, to malice, to sadism, to grandious righteousness.
Degrees of desensitization can happen so tragically … among all of us, for example often with the homeless … and psychological survival does require some detachment from the vast numbers of fellow beings in such profound need. But the moral disconnect happening in patriarchal cultures, including our own, is frightening. Competition and power, not cooperation and partnership. Division, not unity. Human lives of non-tribe beings regarded as irrelevant and expendable. Religion used for ego lusts, not in spirit of truth and compassion.
David Michael Green said Bush decided to take care of the top 300 families rather than the 300,000,000 million citizens constitutionally and ethically in his charge. So he sacrificed the security and welfare of the citizenry to obscenely reward the 300 special tribe. His sympatico, profiteering tribe. Class war. The long obsessed after goal of the Bush family and their cohorts to undo the New Deal.
what a wanker
We make fun of Tweety but, personally, I like him. If Steele had said that to him, he would have been pummelled. Steele said it to Blitzer and there was no rebuttal.
from emedicine:
and the Council on Foreign Relations refers to this.
OT but SHIT!
California goes broke, halts $3.5 billion in payments
Blitzer is a fool.
Sorry to hear about your pupper. Foxes won’t normally go after a dog but if there are kits around they’ll protect against any perceived threat. Let’s hope that’s what it was.
Mankind apparently did not start until Jan 20th 2001
fucking arnold, how the HELL does he get re-elected?
Steele said ‘
Hmmm, since the government is the largest employer in the US, I wonder who “created those jobs?
OT
Spouse if off to the NH Legislature today to talk/lobby/educate them about Choice (Shit head Lynch is trying, with the assistance of gooper attorney general chayotte(sp?) to require parental notification, again) so I will hear in detail the thoughts on Lynch appointing a gooper senator….we are so bloody pissed at him…
I like tweaty as well, he is the only person I see changing his point of view based on events
I know he gets it wrong sometimes but he also gets it right sometimes
I have been known myself to get it wrong once in a while
Neocons have no problem spending money on guns, ammo, and alcohol, but feeding America’s children, helping them with their healthcare, and making sure they have a safe roof over their heads is bad!
this is a GREAT frigging analogy and I WISH the democrats would pick up on it!
Between the citizen’s anti-tax initiatives and “conservative” government CA has dug itself a humungous hole. Electing governors like RayGuns, Wilson and Ahnuld sure has worked well for Californians. I think I’m glad I don’t live there any more.
oh great, looking forward to your/her report.
Also good at fighting for the “unborn” but once there is an actual human that needs assistance… poof.
It’s far bigger than just Arnold. assuming that these apparent leaders are actually in control of anything is a bad assumption to make.
When Governor Grey Davis was in office, he had no control over the fact that Ken Lay and GHW Bush conspired to use Lay’s Enron electronic energy trading platform to create an artificial energy shortage there, for the purpose of conditioning the entire country to install “energy experts” in the White House in 2000.
Arnold didn’t cause the inflationary housing bubble that led to one of the worst real estate/economic implosions in history. Greenspan did, on behalf of his globalist bankster overlords who own and control the Federal Reserve the IMF, the US Treasury and now, all of our sorry asses.
Arnold was a tool, just like the rest of the tools that we actually believe our votes are responsible for installing in positions of apparent power.
The collapse was planned a decade ago. Power and wealth are being consolidated in the hands of the global elite.
Lynch listens to Limpballs, need I say more?
Swim’s up
LOL Exactly! ;-)
Hey, I had a scratch on my hand and got it 12 hours before we found a rabid bat dead in front of the bush I thought I got the scratch from while weeding around it and thought I had heard something in the bush at the time of weeding and backed off of the bush.
Public health said statistically I was a low exposure, but still a potential exposure so I was advised to get the vaccine series. Bat scratches and bites are equally at risk of carrying rabies.
The series is 6 shots now. The first two are done together. It does give peace of mind since there is no cure for rabies.
S’pose it still works, but wouldn’t something you pulled “out of a region just north of your taint” be from out of your zipper, as opposed to out of (I think as intended) the traditional “south end of your northbound” self?
