Attack of the 50-Foot Wingnuts!

By: Thers Thursday January 8, 2009 8:22 pm

The “Big Hollywood” site — all about how Hollywood is nice to conservatives — is not yet one week old, but is already the biggest, dumbest, whiniest wingnut blog in history. Well done!

Obama to Talk to Hamas?

By: Siun Thursday January 8, 2009 7:46 pm

The Guardian’s US correspondent reports “Obama administration is prepared to abandon George Bush’s –doctrine of isolating Hamas by establishing a channel to the Islamist organisation, sources close to the transition team say.”

The move to open contacts with Hamas, which could be initiated through the US intelligence services, would represent a definitive break with the Bush –presidency’s ostracising of the group…

Why the Madoff Bailout Should Be Limited

By: Ian Welsh Thursday January 8, 2009 7:00 pm

It’s getting towards time to stop privatizing the profits and socializing the losses. If you lost more than a half million, ordinary Americans, most of whom don’t have anything like that type of cash on hand, shouldn’t be required to bail your butt out. Doing is just another case of reverse Robin Hood – take from the poor, give to the rich.

Ignorant Rick Warren’s Ugandan BFF is Dangerously Crazy

By: Lisa Derrick Thursday January 8, 2009 6:05 pm

You wanna talk humanitarian issues, Pastor Rick? Let’s talk about your BFF in the fight on AIDS in Africa, Martin Ssempa who burns condoms, wants to jail gays, who thinks witches live under Lake Victoria, and whose crazy belief in exorcisms and witchcraft could spiral into the abuses now seen throughout the evangelized continent.

Changing Washington from the inside requires players who actually know how the place works.

Hopeless Harry Reid Has To Go

By: Brendan Thursday January 8, 2009 4:30 pm

I don’t have to tell you that Harry Reid is an incompetent failure at best, and a GOP stooge at worst.
No matter how you slice it, Harry Reid is no friend of progressives and no friend of change. He has to go NOW.

In Defense Of the Sanjay Gupta Appointment

By: Jane Hamsher Thursday January 8, 2009 3:40 pm

I actually think Gupta will do a lot to redeem public health issues from the savaging they’ve received from the anti-science crowd for the past 8 years. But if does nothing more than help keep public opinion about the health care plan favorable long enough for it to pass, he’ll be worth it.
I actually think Gupta is an inspired choice.

By: Lisa Derrick Thursday January 8, 2009 2:45 pm

1,200 students at Wasilla High School were in lock down this morning because of a bomb threat. They are now being sent home, per a phone call I had with school district spokeswoman Catherine Esary.
