The one hope for many of our fellow citizens is to clean their financial slates with a Chapter 7 or a Chapter 13 case.

In a report just made public, the House Judiciary Committee issues a scathing report on the Bush/Cheney abuses against the rule of law. Entitled “Reining In the Imperial Presidency,” the report details a myriad of issues which have plagued Congress and the judiciary where the Bush/Cheney administration has overstepped constitutional boundaries.

But I’m heartened by Bob Fertik’s efforts and the transparency of the Obama administration that allowed 70,000 people to show up and demand a Special Prosecutor on the change.gov site. It’s the kind of “critical mass” event that defies the ability of a few people to limit the sphere of debate as easily as they have in the past, and shifts the power of defining “consensus” even if slightly in favor people willing to connect and speak up.

The latest news from the legal-challenge phase of the recount (aka Norm’s Long Goodbye) is that Al Franken’s people tried a little Hail Mary of their own, in the form of a request to Minnesota’s governor, Tim Pawlenty, to sign the election certificate — a request which Pawlenty couldn’t have honored, even if he’d wanted to (which he doesn’t).

Democrats are about to push through another vote on SCHIP legislation — this week in the House and coming up thereafter in the Senate, from what I’m hearing. The previously passed extension on SCHIP expires on March 31st. And they need your help to make certain the votes are there…
