Susan Crawford, who’s in charge of Gitmo show trials, admits that Mohammed al-Qahtani was tortured. Why wasn’t she asked about Abu Zubaydah?

Civil Wrongs in the Bush DOJ

By: Julia Wednesday January 14, 2009 11:39 am

Remember Brad Schlozman, Bush’s dubious head of the Justice Department Civil Rights division? According to the Department’s Inspector General, he broke the law making personnel decisions for political reasons. Then he lied to Congress about it.

Final Gallup Poll: 75% of Republicans Love Bush, Rest of Nation Still Hates Him

By: Blue Texan Wednesday January 14, 2009 10:29 am

When you’re 50 points off from the middle on an issue, you’re not just out of the mainstream — you’re radicals. But I suppose if you believe torture is good, global warming is fake and being gay is a choice, thinking George W. Bush has done a good job is in the same ballpark.

GRITtv: Has Obama Fixed His Rick Warren Problem?

By: GRITtv with Laura Flanders Wednesday January 14, 2009 9:00 am

Is it a classic case of forgive and forget? This week Obama called on gay Episcopal bishop, Gene Robinson, to deliver the invocation at the ceremonial kick-off to Inauguration Week at the Lincoln Memorial. Has this addition to the inaugural lineup offset Obama’s pick of evangelical celebrity Rick Warren, outspoken opponent of gay marriage and a woman’s right to choose, chosen to deliver the invocation at the 56th President’s swearing in ceremony?

To talk about whether Obama has fixed his Rick Warren problem are Jane Hamsher, Faye Wattleton, Kenyon Farrow, and Eleanor Smeal.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. I can’t believe I just had to type that, but when it comes to US policymakers vis-à-vis America’s war footing, the Obama Administration is looking all too ready to embrace the melodic cynicism of Pete Townsend.

Federal Judge Orders Last-Minute Housecleaning on US Attorney Firings

By: Christy Hardin Smith Wednesday January 14, 2009 6:00 am

Somehow, I’m thinking the “Barney ate our documentation” argument isn’t going to fly with the incoming administration. . . or a none-too-happy federal judge.
