One hesitates to say this will amount to anything, but Marc Lynch notes that Mohammed Essam Derbala, a leader of Ayman Zawahiri’s Egyptian terrorist group that merged with Al Qaeda in 1998, today urged his former confederates to declare a unilateral ceasefire to “test Barack Obama’s pledges to establish a new relationship with the Islamic world and to close Guantanamo.”

For those of you still wondering why so many of us lefty bloggers hate the media in general, and Howie Kurtz in particular, this one sentence from Howie’s Media Notes column pretty much says it all.

Over at Washington Monthly, the editors asked a few Famous Names to describe the book they think President Obama should read. But they did not ask the rest of us.

So I’d like to submit a suggestion. In fact, I’ll go easy on the new president and offer up a report rather than an entire book.
