“I Won”: On Day 4, President Obama Confronts the Limits of Bipartisanship

By: Swopa Friday January 23, 2009 3:03 pm

From the Wall Street Journal’s Washington, D.C., blog on today’s WH-Congress stimulus summit: “The meeting was designed to promote bipartisanship. But… challenged by one Republican senator over the contents of the package, the new president, according to participants, replied: ‘I won.’”

School’s In: What Ambinder (and America) Still Needs to Learn about Employee Free Choice

By: Jane Hamsher Friday January 23, 2009 1:05 pm

I’ll give Marc Ambinder credit, he’s at least trying to understand the details of secret ballot/majority signup (or as the wingnuts like to say, “card check”). But he tends to lean a bit heavily on overpaid hacks spreading disinformation on behalf of business lobbyists, and therein lies the problem:

The AFL-CIO’s polling firm, Hart Research Associaties, asks respondents whether they’d support legislation that “[a]llows employees to have a union once a

FISA Question of the Day: How to Prove Intentionality of Domestic Surveillance?

Given Russell Tice’s recent confirmations of many of our suspicions about Bush’s warrantless wiretapping programs, I wanted to point a footnote from the recently declassified FISCR ruling.

New York, Meet Senator Kirsten Gillibrand

By: Gregg Levine Friday January 23, 2009 9:18 am

After a month of rumors, New York Governor David Paterson is poised to select 42-year-old Kirsten Gillibrand as the replacement for now-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a speech scheduled for Noon Eastern time.

Gillibrand has just begun her second term as the Representative from New York’s 20th district—one of the most conservative districts currently held by a Democratic House member.

Gillibrand is a member of conservative Blue Dog caucus.

Rudy Giuliani: “All Our Al-Qaeda Number Twos Will Kill You in Your Bed”

By: Jane Hamsher Friday January 23, 2009 7:23 am

Rudy 911iulliani on Morning Joe:It’s very very strange that on the day that President announces this, they discover a guy that was released who is killing people, heh heh heh. NY Senate: It’s Like a “Columbo” Episode

By: looseheadprop Friday January 23, 2009 6:04 am

NY Gov David Paterson is assembling all the suspects, I mean contenders, for the open senate seat recently vacate by Hillary Clinton in Albany today. Like an episode of the old Columbo detective series, or a novel featuring Hercule Poirot, he will likely discuss his thought process about each one before finally revealing the murderer, er senator.

One of the funniest aspects to this whole thing is how many times Andrea Mitchell has gotten the same story wrong.
