Clear Channel cutting 1,850 jobs

Broadcasting company Clear Channel Communications Inc. this afternoon cut 1,850 jobs, or about 9 percent of its total work force, according to a memo Chief Executive Officer Mark Mays sent to employees.

A “significant portion” of the cuts come as the San Antonio-based company realigns its ad-sales department in response to the weak economy, Mays said. However, they span all departments in its corporate, radio and outdoor advertising divisions.

Last week, both the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal reported that the company planned to lay off workers as it looked to trim $400 million in expenses.

Clear Channel’s owners Bain Capital Partners and Thomas H. Lee Partners spent more than $18 billion to take over the company in July. Like others in the broadcast industry, the company has struggled with diminished ad revenues amid the recession.

Laying down in front of a Moving Luxury Car is an easier and more dignified way to make money than laying down for Rush.

Ms. Kagan’s bio says she is Jewish. One wonders how the Kagan/Limbaugh relationship lasted as long as it did. The thing is, despite his protests, the great cyst on the elephant’s rear is desperate to wield influence. I recall that when Delay was finally ousted (and why isn’t he in jail, yet?)- El Tubbo was flatulating about the next Speaker and asking callers for suggestions…. But he kept mentioning that the Speaker “…does not have to be an elected official….” It was obvious to anyone (except his brain-dead listeners) that the egotistical bastard wanted to be nominated for the post. Even the GOOPERs weren’t quite that foolish- though they did go with Denny the Hutt.
