So the question is now, do the Dems have the stones to forget this “bipartisan” nonsense and re-write a good, liberal, stimulus package?

I see no point in watering it down for the Repukes, they are NOT honest brokers, they will NOT support any final version. Since the Democrats are gonna get 100% of the credit or blame, it should be a real DEMOCRATIC bill.

William Kristof
put out some real junk.

The first step is to appoint a high-level commission — perhaps a McCain-Scowcroft Commission? — to investigate torture, secret detention and wiretapping during the Bush years, as well as to look ahead and offer recommendations for balancing national security and individual rights in the future.

The Repubs’ actions clearly illustrate they’re still not serious about actually governing. Obama didn’t need their votes, but he asked for them, and by their actions the GOP has publicly confirmed they are irrelevant to the process of actually running the country.

The real question is whether the Democratic Party will use this great gift they’ve just received. Given their actions in the recent past, I would guess they will fritter it away while timidly acquiescing to outrageous right wing demands. But the opportunity exists…

Think Progress has an interesting chart showing how much more airtime the republicans have gotten than democrats on the stimulus package.

As Media Matters has documented, during the Bush administration, the media consistently allowed conservatives to dominate their shows, booking them as guests far more often than progressives. The rationale was that Republicans were “in power.”

This is a no brainer. The talking heads are well paid and vested in the status quo. The owners and executives of media companies are MORE wealthy and MORE vested in the status quo. This is not a conspiracy. This is just people looking out for their own SELFISH INTERESTS.

Republican ideology appeals to the basest instincts in humans – G R E E D. They believe is policies which all people to amass wealth and power and to SHARE as little as possible, They don’t care about the commons anyone outside their very narrow SELFISH interests. They are narcissists and dishonest. Their only interest in government is to get more wealth and power and have less interference in the pursuit of wealth, money and power. If destroying a government agency furthers their selfish interest, so be it. Incompetence is not an accident i those cases, it is purposeful.

ok, I just watched that youtube and I happen to agree with Issa

obama’s plan does not fund anything, he’s giving tax gifts for no reason when what we need are jobs

issa makes the point, (I don’t know if I believe him), that if the bill contained all infrastructure spending he would have voted for it

I am with him on that, we need jobs we don’t need tax breaks

here’s a point;

my friends wanted to get together for a cruise.

I have money in the bank and can easily afford that cruise, however I do not think I am going to have a job next month so I can’t spend the mad money, it’s not mad money anymore it’s bill security.

if there were jobs to go and get I would have no problem spending my mad money

THAT is the phsycology of our economy now, giving me a tax break is not going to get me to spend that tax break, having accesable jobs will.

once in a while the republicans have something valuable to say and I believe that youtube is saying something valuable

Obama made it clear about no pride of ownership — if you have better ideas draft them and explain how they are better…Didn’t hear much before the Bill hit the House. Looks bad for the Repugs to be complaining now and not moving faster before the Bill came up for a vote. Now they come off as obstructionists.

I would also like to remind Issa:

For each person present at the Obama Inauguration, each individual represented 239 US citizens who approve of how Obama is doing right now. That’s 238,451,499 that approve sir.

Elliott -

http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..id=topnews

[snip]
So very, very much for the Republican to ponder in this Winter of the Democrats’ Contentment.
[snip]
It is into this new world order, this Washington version of an existential whorl, that a steadfastly loyal group of Republicans descend this week, skidding into an iced-over landscape and holing up at the Capital Hilton beginning yesterday for a four-day winter meeting of the Republican National Committee. (Not to be missed on the restorative agenda: a “Reboot the RNC” open house.) They’ve themed the whole get-together “Republican for a Reason,” and left it at that.
[snip]
So, what’s a Republican to do? Definitely some “soul-searching,” says John Czwartacki, who was a top aide to then-Sen.Trent Lott in better times for Republicans.
[snip]

G

ood luck with that soul-searching, Czwartacki. Last I checked, it’s nigh on to impossible finding something that doesn’t exist.

Goes along with all the insufficient body armor….when are some families going to rant, scream, and sue…these are our kids, after all. Let’s send W out to do some inspecting. He is so thoughtful and thorough.

I am not surprised. That’s why I used the word “get”…It has been clear for a while that he does not care.

I honestly believe he does not “get” the 78%.

these people may voice their opinions with grandure but they also voice opinions that merit discussion. These “horrible” conservatives invite liberal attacks and let them speck loudly on thier shows because in many cases they have a intelligent retort. Liberal media just wants them to shut up becuase 1. lack of information or insightful knowledge of the issues. or 2. they don’t want people to see the options they have because then people would see that government is really designed to give people all the tools neccessary to make this country great. The government should depend on the people not the people depending on the government. Every government intrusion comes with a loss of freedom for her people. The government has set up rules that all must abide by, black, white, young, old, rich and poor. People need to stop crying to change the rules and instead focus on using the rules to their greatest potential. A handout and help can only get you so far. You don’t take in an injured animal to keep it forever, you help it recover than let it go prosper on its own power.
