Michael Gerson and Africa…you know this can’t be good. Today he has a fit over Mark Dybol, Bush’s Africa AIDS czar being told to submit his resignation and depart on Inauguration Day.
Golly, hard to believe the incoming Obama Administration may have wanted a guy who said this to leave:
Acknowledging that women are increasingly at the center of the pandemic, Dybul claimed that the Administration’s ideologically driven program that focuses on promoting abstinence until marriage and faithfulness in marriage "might be the best way to encourage men to treat women better."
Ah yes, the famed shut up, put out and make me a sandwich method of "faithfulness". There was a special de-emphases on the use of condoms.
“There is a high incidence of infection amongst faithful wives of errant husbands. The woman most at risk is a woman in a monogamous marriage.” …[M]any Ugandan women are not only powerless to resist their husbands’ sexual demands; they are also unable to compel their husbands to stop sleeping with multiple partners and/or to use condoms. For some women, the Human Rights Watch authors conclude, “rape and battery had literally become part of the fabric of their daily lives.”
Yeah, that sure sounds like a keeper of a policy.

Ahhhhhh, nice to see weasel gerson is receiving a warm response from readers equal to that of yesterday’s welcome to the news of William the Bloody’s move to wapoo.
Michael Gerson’s still around? Why hasn’t he curled up from embarassment and shame yet?
Just what is the Zionist definition of cease as in cease-fire? A burning question courtesy BBC reports:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7855086.stm
“You stop shooting at us. We, of course, can keep on shooting at you.” I hope that clarifies the situation for you. /snark
Now off to look at the Times.
For those that have not seen this by Naomi Klein this is well worth reading.
The Israelis will not stop their genocide of the Palestinians until the US government stops their support of the murderers.
I read that last week it seems. Naomi is spot on target there. Her observations reflect the general european consensus outside the “village” of Brussels, lapdogs to the other “village” in D.C., curious how power corrupts. The nice thing in europe is all products must show country of origin. The only problem I see with boycott is that it can hurt innocent parties, such as the Palestinians who work the production of goods or produce the goods themselves if they are so fortunate.
Did you read the letter in The Nation refuting Naomi’s argument. It was a piece that could have come out of the Likud playbook. IT was by Robert Pollin and is here
Reading el haaretz this morning was an exercise in depression. I think there is no hope that they will stop their theft of Palestinian lands and so the freedom fighters, one can only hope, will continue to fight the occupation.
Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo and Friedman, The Moustache of Wisdom, in the NYT today. MoDo writes about “Wall Street’s Socialist Jet Setters,” and says the former masters of the universe don’t seem to fully comprehend that their universe has crumbled and, thanks to them, so has ours. The Moustache of Wisdom gives us “Abdullah II: The 5-State Solution.” He asks what might King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia propose if asked to update his plan for peace in the Middle East? He then tells us, doing a little fiction piece like MoDo.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a selection of bagels and cream cheese this morning. We’ve got another morning of HEAVY fog. Yesterday you could barely see 100 feet, and if anything it’s worse this morning. All things being equal, however, I’d rather have fog and warm temps than clear skies and ice in the bird baths. Have a great day.
The Republican’s “WAR ON CONDOMS” continues.
Seems to fly in the face of David Rockefeller’s globalist CFR/Trilateral Commission agenda to reduce the population of the entire planet, but I guess his plan is more genocidal (Israel-style) than preventive (birth control).
On the other hand goods coming from other than Israel must have their country of origin posted so unless such items as oranges are posted as from Chile or somewhere else they come from Israel. Stop buying oranges, it is a start. I am looking for a comprehensive list of goods from Israel and once found will help any future purchasing. If you know of a list I would be interested.
that exact argument was used by the defenders of S African apartheid regime that boycott of S African products hurts blacks more than the whites
Is he saying as they do in New Orleans,,,”Some things just beez that way.” What a crock…all that little woman’s fault. What a way to start my morning….yet, it gives me a way to sound off about yesterday.
The snarky Ms. Ingraham had an complete melt down about Barbara Streisand…how dare Ms. S. have an opinion…I could just have a little hunce that maybe Ing. is a bit jealous that Barbara is smart, lovely, talented…you know. A hugh success. She was even lamenting that B. had gotten the Kennedy award, much less that W had wasted his talent to kiss Ms. S. Just a way to start your morning….
and who is Dan Ferguson…he was on my radio the other night ripping apart the Obama Inaugual speech. Another crazy, I guess, but had never heard the name…not my crowd;)
I don’t have the links but the European Commission has bought Washington’s line, hook and sinker all. Their man, Solano is pandering to Abbas’ Fatah as the duly constituted government where Abbas’ term of office ended early January and no election has been held to re-elect. Abbas is the only person Israel will allow any other party to negotiate with, so twisted and corrupt is the whole of Fatah, and yet those frauds are the only ones G. Mitchell will be talking to. INSANE THAT.
IMO a new Hugh’s list need be started on this administration as well. Within a week of taking office, the administration has caused: CRIMES against the peace; Crimes against humanity; WAR CRIMES in the bombing of Pakistani territory without legal permission of the government (which has asked such bombing stop). There is blood already on the new president’s hands.
And the moral abyss re the silence over the Gaza atrocities is telling in its indictment.
In a recent BBC report (no link) the propaganda was evident, that Hamas had overthrown the legitimate Palestinian Authority where the facts were that the PA had begun a coup against the legitimately elected Hamas government – and lost. Such propaganda is not trivial.
Here’s a page from the CIA fact book on Israel, listing exports to various countries.
Let me get this straight: Gerson’s upset because someone in the Obama transition team asked for a political appointee’s resignation? And claims the Obama team is not graceful?
Please.
As a former editor of a college op-ed section, this would never have made the page. It’s a perfect example of the WATB meme that so-called conservatives love. It’s the op-ed equivalent of “leave Brittany alone!”
Katherine Graham continues to spin in her grave.
Haven’t heard of ferguson but , unfortunately, we’re likely to see a whole new swarm of “crazies” birthed by the recent changes in deecee. :-(
wow, thank you that was quick. How the heck do you have time to find that kind of information while making hot chocolate, you are wonderful.
As for weather well, the snow has just started and we are expecting a foot or more. KayinMaine is probably going to get well over a foot dumped on her.
Best plan is to use discretion on applying any boycott, labeling is one way, if unlabeled consider all other possible sources in your decision, it is not critical that total boycott be achieved, just one sufficient to be strongly felt.
Sona @ 10, that did not stop the boycott did it?
That is marvelous, incredibly knowledgeable, Thanks and bookmarked. ;-)
Nomolos & T-Bear, I make regular offerings to Teh Great Gazoogle, and never forget to sing his praises!
Look on the bright side, Atta – at least Gerson was taking up
prime WaPo real estate that otherwise might have been occupied by
Krauthammer, Beinart or Will.
I think Teh Great Gazoogle is a first cousin of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, bless his noodly appendage…
Marion, I’m afraid this list is badly out of date.
The list of exports from the United States, for example,
doesn’t include toxic securities.
or bad “B” movies
It’s been interesting how my only two regular outposts in Blognia-Herzegovinia have been at odds recently, both on the front page and with commenters. FDL and Al Giordano have provided countless hours of political education for me, and some of these debates that have sprung up between trusted blogs has been very healthy IMO. That is, as long as people stay respectful and don’t fracture into tiny groups that talk past each other. Overall, we’re in agreement on most every issue, and we need to make sure we’re not divided and conquered into ineffectiveness again.
I will say that Al’s latest expresses very well how I’ve felt for quite a while, after seeing how Obama handled things early in his campaign, and the results he got:
http://narcosphere.narconews.c…..nship-trap
Have people lost sight of what Obama has accomplished in just four years? Plus, didn’t people notice these same strategies employed during the primaries by Obama, and how well they worked. It’s not 3D chess jiu jitsu. It’s quite a simple tactic, but I wonder if the fact that we’re not used to seeing it out of DeeCee makes it hard for some to see how well it works. They “give ‘em rope to hang themselves” approach does take a bit of adjustment to get used to, and I’ve had to warm up to it after a lifetime of “fighting fire with fire” in some of my local political trenches. Again, Obama’s results thus far are breathtaking, and I’m still thinking he’s doing it again right now, which is the point Al is making.
The community organizing angle is another important part of the equation, and that also gives confidence in Obama’s plans, for me at least. Sure, some of the middle-road policies and appointments have pissed me off, but we can’t expect one person to do everything, and Obama makes this point constantly. We must stay unified on the core issues (yes, debate is good at the same) which will provide a tremendous amount of Liberal leverage on DeeCee politicians.
Consider how much Obama has shifted the pendulum in one week. It’s astounding really, and shows how important it is to win an election first. We have less than two years before mid-terms, and everyone probably has many local races before then, where we can make the pendulum pick up so much steam that Russ Feingold will be considered a centrist, which is what he is IMO. Blue American candidates should be our focus, and I think it’s time safe to drop the “More” from “More and Better Dems.”
We can keep the pressure on Obama and show him that the public is ready to support more Liberal candidates and policies by electing a whole slew of Better Dems now. Onward and Upward!
or phosphorus bombs
IIRC those are on their way in a container ship for about 1000 20′ containers of munitions destined for U.S. storage in Israel. The conditions for Israeli use of such weapons e.g. not in populated areas, are totally ignored by the Zionist criminal overlords; and nothing is done about it.
Gerson is also the guy who wrote both of Bush’s Inaugural Addresses – my fav is the second one – real war mongering Christian-religio – “I’ve been put in this place at this time” junk.
Since we’re talking wankers…Imus saying Lieberman will be on in the 8:30 [eastern] time part. Undercurrents of why is this guy leechin’ on my show? Hmmmm.
Was he also the “axis of evil” guy? Got us off to a good start…;)
Was he also the “axis of evil” guy? Got us off to a good start…;)
David Frum takes credit for that.
Good morning all. Thanks for the post, Attaturk.
Ohhhh, he must be very proud..
The thought of neocon sex makes me cringe.
Cringe away. It’s part of their succession plan. They Knew They Were Right talks a lot about how they intermarry and indoctrinate their children to carry on.
Yeh, there should be a law against pro-creationist procreation as well. No need to give weight to: “doG must have loved …, there are so many” /s

Gerson is a “featured” op ed writer for the WaPo. Another Republican gasbag. Speaking of gasbags, Juan Williams made the comment that Michelle Obama should be careful what she says so she will not be seen as Stokley Carmichael in a dress. How long must the U.S. suffer these idiots?
You know, the Juan remark almost makes me weep. These women, Black ones, esp., I guess…better be seen and not heard. Laura Ingr. really goes after Michelle for having opinions, or something. There must be a prejudice in all this in a way I do not understand. Ooooooh, those uppity women. Shame on that soft bigotry.
Well, as they convince themselves that sex is horrid, sinful, and icky, the rest of us will enjoy ourselves. LOL
LMAO I had to laugh the other day when I was reading the upcoming Alaskan legislative itinerary. First thing on the list? Bestiality! Yep, apparently having sex with animals should NOW be considered animal cruelty and a crime.
Ohhhhh, but, but…what if the animal likes it?
I’m waiting for all the neocon bad genes to come out thru in-breeding. Oh wait. Hasn’t that already happened?
I can still quote my Psyche 101 text book that talked about “chicken, ducks, & geese” and concluded this was a practice very common among “farm boys.” Now what’s wrong with that?
Until that condition becomes economically counter-productive. A long long time I fear.
Sally Quinn tells Imus the Friedman piece is brilliant.
FYI:Matt Taibibi coming up on MoJo.
ahh, consider the source.
is it just me or is she struggling for relevance in the new Washington?
Marion, Taibbi…what say you?
RIP, James Brady.
Probably…sort of restoration. I have heard her a couple of times lamenting how non-social the Ws were…didn’t go out or make DC friends. I’m sure she is hoping things will pick up.
Not just you.
There’s a generational sea change going on in Washington and the whole media world. Hence the rise of the Taibbi, the wane of the ‘Stache.
Brilliant

Of course, “but the animal likes it!” is the defense of the neocons. ;-)
eCAHN, in-breeding already at full tilt in the American Taliban!
Now, where else could we get information like this?
Today on the Hill
ain’t that the truth, Kay
would like to make a point that is never made on the front page here at the lake because the subject is pretty tabu
sex is an uncontrolable force and power and those who want power have a tough time controlling it
when they demonize the natural process of desire they give themselves power, they give themselves to power to offer salvation to those who have been taught their natural desires are a sin
it is all about power, it is all about claiming the natural power both men and women have between themselves and using that force of nature against us
that’s what religion is all about, it’s not about “setting us free” at all it’s about claiming power through fear
just like war
I thought beastiality was a crime already though
LOL I’m just a Walking Info Index this morning, huh? Who knew the American Taliban was so interesting!
I agree. For example, are Maine voters, who supported Obama, going to see him as more reasonable and solution oriented, or House Republicans? How then, are Snowe and Collins likely to vote on the stimulus and later bills?
It also seems to me like the proposed stimulus may include other easily removable parts, like contraceptives, to demonstrate Obama’s resonableness and desire to solve the problem.
I’m getting a little ticked. How much of this bill is going to actually create jobs? I wonder if it would have been better to throw the whole bundle of money into a UHC system. That would have benefited all businesses and the little guy.
democracynow talking about Rove subpoena. Turns out lawyer in Obama admin who will decide threshhold issue of whether Rove has to respond to subpoena is a friend of Rove.
