i’m wearing 3 layers of clothing, am on the sofa covered with a heavy throw, token, and bailey. i’m still freezing – it must be whatever bug i am fighting.
We had ten inches of snow today. It was a wonderland of snow, with crazy driving. Lucky for me, I never left the house. The museum closed at 2:00. MrCE said that he was lucky to make it home without abandoning the car. Now that’s scary.
That sounds like what Sweetie came down with last Friday evening(:>(( She had to get down on her knees and pray to the porcelain God(:>(( I had just came downstairs to whip up a nice Chicken & Shrimp stir fry…. had to put it off till Sunday evening! But until then I made her chicken soup late on Saturday… Poor girl hadn’t seen her that sick in a long time. Hope you fare well Suz(:>))
I saw a tv episode somewhere, where the Hors’ Dourves being served in a new restaurant were, and this is good, little wooden boxes of oxygen infused with saffron oil.
Bon appetite.
Listen to Busted…electric heating pad or blanket makes you feel all warm and cozy. Not expnesive…you have a lot of winter left up there in the Great Northwest. Put one on your bed another on your couch/blogging place.
Fred Meyes, Costco give them a call and see what they have to keep you warm.
Back from the Cruise, have been for a few days. Had a great time but coming back to my real life is a big let-down.
Saw the inauguration while I was in Mexico. Every TV set in Zihuatanejo (well, every set I saw) was tuned to te inauguration. I think they have more hope than they did with chimpy clusterfuck in charge.
Suzanne your body is seeking homeostasis or balance… let it. You are doing th right thing. Just keep some liquid in it. Maybe a mild hot chamomile or your fav herbal tea but weak brew.
We had a lot of snow, then freezing rain, more snow, more rain. So all the branches are hanging down and have 1/2 inch of ice covering them.
Shelters are opening in towns around here for people w/o power.
The mayor told us that all able-bodied people have to go out and chip away at their gutters on the street, because they’re full of ice and there’s nowhere for the rain to go, which then ices the streets.
I’m in the city now, but got a new woodstove in the country on Monday. Used it for a day, and other than the damper handle falling off, worked well. Guy came back with another one. I’m worried that it’s a design flaw, as it’s attached with a set screw, but guy sez they rarely come off, and if it does, he’ll keep coming back.
Take heart, Chris. You weren’t looking for better Goopers to vote for.
I’m starting to think that O has played them into a corner and he is going to pound them relentlessly with ‘reaching across the aisle’ type talk. I can’t believe how smooth he has been about this, and how true-to-form the Goopers have been.
Real chicken soup included the feet and some internal parts, that was the magic. A mild broth of water, a tincture of soy sauce or miso, and some maple syrup can be heartening.
Vermont Castings. Same brand as I had before. Old stove was probably about 20 years old. Several pieces had broken off, probably metal fatigue, especially since I regularly took it from 50 degrees to full blast within a short period when I came up to a cold house in the winter. It would have cost half of a new stove to fix the old one, so I antied up. Went up a size too. As it was new, and you are supposed to break them in gradually, I have yet to burn it at full bore.
And Suzanne, sorry you are not feeling well. Your body is telling you what you should do, so pay attention to it & do the soup thing when you’re ready. Sounds like the flu.
As disappointed as I am by O’s centrist leanings, if he did indeed play them (knowing full well that they would talk kumbaya and blow it up if they could, which they can’t), they are trying to setup ‘10 with a move in the first week of the Presidency. They have a lot more failure to look forward to, if I am right.
They shot their wad this early, not much left to do but either obstruct big time and look like they don’t care at all, or come on down and play nice.
Going green my 7 month gas and electric bill was $170.00 or $24.00 a month for both. I have not turned on my gas wall heater this year…don’t intend too. I do keep the circulatory system up anf running, The hard rows on the bay most days and treadmill in the kitchen for occassional 5-7 minute run.
I have three ab workouts a day of 1200 crunche son the ab rocker.
Proud to be conserving more of us should do you in the cold climate get cheaper heating.
We love our house, it is paid for, it is charming, it is also not insulated, and that could leave us bankrupt. And we wear three layers of clothing during the winter. Did I say that our house is warm when we cook?
That sucks. So maybe not flu, but the flu shot is not infallible either. You know that they have to predict the strain because it differs from year to year. So if they didn’t get it right, ooops.
The Party of Obstructionists whats not to be PISSED Off About!! Down here the Rethugs still won’t compromise on the budget… So now what does the Govern-nator do he freezez all payments for services for the poor and payments for the schools and school grants. That hits home to the tune of 4700 a month for rent for the youngest at college. We are hoping some how we can still make it happen for him as he graduates in May. Fucking Repukes only care about their Rich fucking buddies! But will they the rich pay taxes for their yachts noooo fucking asswipes. Hope every last one of them lose their next election so we.. the people can get things doen for the good of the country and the people!!
It would be warm (to whatever preference), nutritious (short-term), and most important remove your curiosity about it. (When I have it, I also add other flavorings like scallions and garlic, and then it’s an Asian soup, but I try not to ingest fresh things when I’m in self-defense mode).
I am hoping that if he gets things done, after having reached across the aisle and been rejected, the voters will blame the Rs for the lack of consensus
I find hope Obama does something about Bank of America organizing against that Union vote bill. Something like say Bank of America’s CEO must step down OR NO MORE MONEY!
Thanks. Planning my next cooking thing. Kind of cookied that are sort of like shortbread, but richer, balls rolled in powdered sugar when cool. I made them years ago, but time to do so again. Home made pound cake sounds great too. with lemon or plain?
Politics Chicago Stlye play ball with us…or else!
Worked just fine for me TCU if the above is the correct Diary! Digg already has three Diggs registered!
Plain. Martha Stewart’s recipe that told me to “wrap it in plastic wrap while warm” to keep it moist. Fine. Then the snow day kept me home and I missed the baby shower. Shucks.
See thats the problem the Bush FDA is in place that and Rummy still owns stock in that inhaled? flu shot company which I heard is less effective than a regular shot.
Unless the FDA lets the competition slack off which would make his product look good.
A hot bath or even a quick hot shower to warm up might help.
i got the regular shot and not the squirt up the nose stuff. i’ve been fighting this bug for a couple days and today is the worst. hopefully i wake up tomorrow feeling better.
So Suzanne, the last flu shot I got was in 2001, after the anthrax attacks. Thought that I should lower the probability of getting any infection, so I wouldn’t have to worry about anthrax. NYC was giving free shots, and when I went I also got a free tetnus, hepatitus, and pneumonia vaccination (that one being good for the rest of my life). I felt absolutely invulnerable walking out of the clinic.
I find hope Obama does something about Bank of America organizing against that Union vote bill. Something like say Bank of America’s CEO must step down OR NO MORE MONEY!
No Give us back the “Peoples” Money back now or we seize the Bank and the stock holders all lose their investments! Big Business hates Unions and will do anything to kill the workers rights to form a Union!
Your area of coastal Oregon gets the Columbia gorge weather. Storms into late May. Better stock up on stuff that keeps you feeling good.
I put a heat-o-later fireplace in my house in Eugege after I converted the Breezeway into a 400 SQFT family room. Used the wall garage. I the pellet stoves here is the consumer report. No insects to bring in the house like termites and spiders.
As it was explained to me by a friend, it is a vaccination for bacterial pneumonia. If you are older than 60, it’s good for life. Nurse at clinic said roughly the same thing.
I think she ardently believes G*d opened both the funding and 2012 doors wide open. Who knows what doors will open next…
You look at the Gallup Poll GOP map – they’ve only got FIVE (!!!) states – and the fact that GOP congressmen are shitting in their pants if Limbaugh flicks a cigar ash in their direction with disdain, and that Mooselini is sucking the air out of the room for any other GOP 2012 sucker, you’ve got the most dysfunctional political situation in the USA since, uh, since…..since…………..since…………….
Front page of the San Jose Mercury news this am. I came down stairs to Julie freaking out about what to do about Anthony’s rent for the next five months! Sure fucked my morning up!
Yep, I got to play with Delbert and many others. I’m writing the report but it will be PAGES. Next year is the LAST ONE but I don’t see us on it. Economy is too bad.
If the local press is covering it then Arnold must have known they would and he is willing to lose his job over this, hmmm I wonder who offered him what if he would toe the line?
Because this sounds like a career in politics ender.
Hope for the sweats..that is when the bod flushed the toxins thw virus create, through the lymph system…temp increase and sweats then a nice recovery sleep and you are better just be mellow a day or two. Patience and breathe. That big picture window lets in a lot of cold.
If the American people blame the poor, the dark and the immigrants for a bad economy in 4 years assuming we still have a bad economy then Ronald Reagen will rise again.
But if they blame the Banks and big Business then Obama might face a Primary challenge from the Left Wing of the party.
Sweats good idea throw every blanket on top and wear wool it keeps you warm even when wet from the sweats wear cotton underneath the wool because wool itches.
Some drama on the home front today. The magazine my wife works for went under just before noon. Domino. Fun smart magazine, 4 years old, killed by the recession. She was handling condolence calls all day, then went to bed. So that makes two of us in this house, trained on print, watching print vanish. She’s been doing the lion’s share around here. Guess that’s gonna change, huh. The internet’s going to be monetized, I’m going to be rolling in it. I’ve been trying to be upbeat all day. I’ve got an apocalyptic narrative too, but I’ll save that for tomorrow, assuming we’re all still here. (Phil Weiss)
Yes to all but cotton…Hot Chillys thermal inner wear wick the moistire with the two layer fabric iy is marvelous and keeps me warm and dry afte/during a windy workout on the waters of the bay anf the jog home.
They are like so unbelieveable and made right here. For $65 bucks what you save in heat and discomfort more tha makes up. Get em on line at Big 5 and…Google is your freind.
44 billion in the hole minus 33 billion in stimulus spending means ca is still screwed and i’ll be lucky to end up with a piece of paper saying iou – which will then be erased in bankruptcy court.
What’s happening to print media and the people who work in it is really sad. I got a notice yesterday that the only magazine I’ve subscribed to in recent years ceased publication with the last issue. Circulation of 350,000, 12 yrs old, the publisher didn’t want to continue, and another pub could not be found. Sad.
On a personal note, my recent pleasant visit from my cousin, who lives about 2000 miles away, was made possible by his recent dis-employment. I was able to spend the day playing tourist with him at the Alamo and Mission San Jose because I’ve been unemployed since November also.
Point of special irony -he had had to do some layoffs himself at the small regional paper he worked at – until Monday after Thanksgiving thought he was reasonably safe: he was the on-line managing editor.
So, he decided now was a good time to take that cross-country trip he’d never had time for before. Lookng on the bright side!
When is Arnolds next public appearance with regular people? I wonder if protesters will get in and mess it up?
That would make for great video the GOP is worried about class warfare and if a popular guy like Arnold is having trouble and low poll numbers the rest of the GOP might panic.
Or they might just blank it from their minds. But things are getting so bad the erase button on their minds might break from over use.
No way if you play the game right you would die of heat exhaustion! When living in Maine I would wear t-shirt, shirt and a good wool cable knit sweater! Plenty warm after five minutes… steam would be pouring off me when I stopped moving!
Afghanistan we need to get out of there just say Bush wasted all our money in Iraq and never tried to get Ossama.
Now we are broke (very important to blame Bush)
Now we declare economic warfare on Ossama we spend a big part of the military budget on Hybrid cars and electric cars.
And drop the price of oil even more until the Arabs deliver Ossama to us.
They know where he is at they send him checks.
I never played hockey, being a girl in the 50’s and 60’s, but you’re all making me nostalgic for my northern childhood of ice skating on creeks, ponds, indoor and outdoor rinks.
It feels wintry here tonight – going down to the upper 30’s in the hills, 30’s here in the city. Not much to y’all with the ice storms and foot-deep snows, I know. Did anyone hear the clip of the pres. telling (the press corps, I guess), that schools never close for snow in Chicago, in fact they still go outside for recess, and he would have to get these Washingtonians a little more Chicago toughness>? (rough paraphrase)
Anyway, I’m going to bed, too, to wrap up in quilt and comforter and, I hope, at least 2 cats (furry little furnaces, they are!).
hey guys, just a drive by to give you what’s on my mind esp. after massive job losses, major bank scandals and etc etc
“They were careless people, Tom and Daisy — they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made…”
I’m late to the party again, but hey! Did you see how Rachel called herself a “liberal” right there on national teevee tonight, on her own show, without any embarrassment? You go, girl! More like this, please! The Republicans have had their day, making “liberal” some kind of curse word. But turn-about is fair play! Run up the flag of liberalism! Accuse people of being a “Republican” as if you’re hurling the worst epithet you can imagine!
Haw! Honky Tonk Train. I first heard this by Meade Lux Lewis back in the late 40’s when RCA re-released it on one of their new 45 RPM Microgroove album sets. Lewis played it a little faster. I’ve got that original record somewheres around here in all this mess.
Feingold!
g’evening pups – eureka springs has no power due to the storm so ya’ll are stuck with a sick me tonight.
Chicken soup, Suz. Chicken soup.
Feel better soon.
I’m sure you will do fine, Suz!
Digg it!
the way my tummy is feeling, i think i am better off not eating anything newton
withdrawn
Suzanne, you need super chicken broth — and happy to see you!

DUGG! Hi Suz keeping warm?
Hey Chris, so this means neither of us should embrace a late career change to medicine.
i’m wearing 3 layers of clothing, am on the sofa covered with a heavy throw, token, and bailey. i’m still freezing – it must be whatever bug i am fighting.
A little solo piano tonight. I like that.
We had ten inches of snow today. It was a wonderland of snow, with crazy driving. Lucky for me, I never left the house. The museum closed at 2:00. MrCE said that he was lucky to make it home without abandoning the car. Now that’s scary.
broth may be better than soup…. but i have no appetite and my tummy keeps doing flip flops. probably better not to eat anything.
Hope you fare well Suz(:>))
our local news was showing clips of the weather back there christine. i think you had the right idea – staying home :)
I hope you have a nice fire in your fireplace, Christine.
And I wish I had a fireplace.
am not paying homage – yet – and wanna keep it that way
was that r on rachael tonight the first r that has said yes to appearing on her show?
Yup chicken soup when you can eat.. be sure and put plenty of veggies in it and take Advil for the fever/chills!
Heh, heh, NO! However, I still believe in won ton soup when I’m sick. It makes me feel so much better.
p.s. I have info about MrCE’s book coming out in April. Let me look for a link.
Ya cold over there Newt? I know it is freaking cold here in Deadwood.. Down to low forties already!
I saw a tv episode somewhere, where the Hors’ Dourves being served in a new restaurant were, and this is good, little wooden boxes of oxygen infused with saffron oil.
Bon appetite.
took the last that i had tonight. gonna have to drag my sorry ass to the store tomorrow and pick up some more.
not sure if he was the first, but she seemed awfully grateful, said they turn her down all the time
yellow-bellied chickenhawks…
that should have been Neuro…Shit!
We didn’t have a fire tonight — not that it was too cold, but we did cook a lot tonight and made the house pretty warm. Weekends will be for fires.
3rd or 4th
But yeah.
i wonder what lies the r’s are gonna tell their constituents about why they voted for america to fail.
i neglected to mention the heating pad on my low back under the warm throw and critters.
relatively warm, 35 now, low of 19 tonite. but it feels colder.
36.5 here tonight with no rain forecast again until friday nite.
I would like to see Rachel take on that creepublican Boehner. Doubt he would have the spine to do it, though.
did I just coin a new word?
pretty slimy how they all whined about the recovery bill and demanded concessions from BHO, then all voted against him anyway
hope he took a lesson away from that
hey that guy – was the cruise great?
I’m pretty pissed off about this…
Suzanne your body is seeking homeostasis or balance… let it. You are doing th right thing. Just keep some liquid in it. Maybe a mild hot chamomile or your fav herbal tea but weak brew.

Wow. Half inch of ice must be deadly for the trees, not to mention roads. Usually just a thin coating will be dangerous.

yikes! accidents looking for a place to happen found it there margot

what kinda stove ecahn?
how does it help? i’ve not heard of miso and maple sryup together before
My Dad had a Jotel stove in our house for year, which my brother inherited. I miss it very much.
i hope he uses that knife they stuck in his back to show the rest of america what the r’s are really like.
but i worry that he is more about getting consensus than getting what needs to be done done.
you should get one and have it installed chris. then you don’t have to worry about the damper on the fireplace.

miso soup is about the only thing right now that sounds good – but i don’t have any
4700 a month for rent???
Thanks my Digg went through but I didn’t know that Digg said a Fatal exception happened and I assumed the Digg did not go through.
I made pound cake last night, man,it smelled so wonderful. You are a great cook and I love your house.
What is Arnold thinking?
*Holding out plate* I’ll take a cyber serving, if you don’t mind. Thanks!
I am hoping that if he gets things done, after having reached across the aisle and been rejected, the voters will blame the Rs for the lack of consensus
Bummer. I’ll have Sarah detour through the Tillamook airport on the way to DC tomorrow, and have her bring ya some turkey soup.

Hopefully it is just the 48 hour variety that is going around down here Suz!
Merci beaucoup. Got a bottle of wine open at this end.
Hey, ET. I could use some of that dinner, too.
What do you make of Palin’s new PAC? Running for president or just trying to get rich contributors to foot her bills?
Plain. Martha Stewart’s recipe that told me to “wrap it in plastic wrap while warm” to keep it moist. Fine. Then the snow day kept me home and I missed the baby shower. Shucks.

Whatis Arnold thinking? Thanks it went weird when I tried to start the Digg I did not think it went through.
How is the MSM covering this story in California? I’ve heard nothing about it.
i got the regular shot and not the squirt up the nose stuff. i’ve been fighting this bug for a couple days and today is the worst. hopefully i wake up tomorrow feeling better.
I still think all the hedgefunds are just one big bank failure away from failing it does not even have to be an American bank.
i hear tax refunds are gonna be pieces of paper with iou on it.
So Suzanne, the last flu shot I got was in 2001, after the anthrax attacks. Thought that I should lower the probability of getting any infection, so I wouldn’t have to worry about anthrax. Spiders the bain of Seattle and Oregon I heard pine sawdust around the house keeps them away.
1974, the year Nixon went down?
that was a pretty good year for us, too bad it only lasted until The Republicans Strke Back in 1978…and then there was 1980
hope BHO can have a longer term effect than that
Yup a win/win for the people… Now if we can only do that to all the “BAD” Banks! That would send a message to those greedy bastards!
Yep, I got to play with Delbert and many others. I’m writing the report but it will be PAGES. Next year is the LAST ONE but I don’t see us on it. Economy is too bad.

i’m so glad i did not vote for that fucker.
Since the Anti Immigrant No Nothing Party collapsed? The GOP very well might collapse if they lose the next presidential election.

The way the market is, the way the stimulus is right now give it a year and the banks will be begging to get taken over.
Yup that was on the front page in the article: Counting on your California tax refund? Don’t hold your breath
Depends! Usually good for 10 years but for some of us only 5 years! Boy and that shot hurts like hell and my arm swells up.
If the American people blame the poor, the dark and the immigrants for a bad economy in 4 years assuming we still have a bad economy then Ronald Reagen will rise again.
But if they blame the Banks and big Business then Obama might face a Primary challenge from the Left Wing of the party.
which means that withholding from my pension check that was done before i moved outta state is gonna be an iou to me.
ThingsComeUndone, I Dugg and recommended your Ox Diary and left a comment.
Sweats good idea throw every blanket on top and wear wool it keeps you warm even when wet from the sweats wear cotton underneath the wool because wool itches.
The economy was taking a beating in ‘74, but 2008-2009 is different. More like ‘32.
Just read this at Phil Weiss’ blog:
Put it in an Oxdown diary, ThatGuy!
There all kind of undergear for winter outdoor sports that wick the sweat away. And they’re thin so you don’t have to worry about bulk.
i agree with neuro – diary it, that guy. why is last year the last cruise?
crap.. that should be next year’s cruise….
Yup but if the Stimulus does get passed California is slated to get 33 Billion in funds! So hopefully the refunds will get paid!
naw, ah-nold will spend it on something else that lines his pockets.
Thanks I left you a reply
44 billion in the hole minus 33 billion in stimulus spending means ca is still screwed and i’ll be lucky to end up with a piece of paper saying iou – which will then be erased in bankruptcy court.
Suz, remember to keep something like a sweater tied around your abdomen like an apron. It can make you much warmer. ((Suz))
I think of bulk as trapped warm air pockets:)
There is a reason Carl Sandburg called Chicago the city of the big shoulders we dress in so many layers we all look big in Winter.

i’m gonna head off to bed. thanks for hanging out with me tonight. g’nite all.
I think they will pay as the people will have a real hissy fit for sure! And if not there just may be some lynchings in this climate of economics!
G’nite Suzanne!. Hope you’re feeling better in the morning.
Nite Suz feel better.
nite Suz, feel good tomorrow :)
The bright side USA can’t afford any more wars.
feel better suz
gnite Suzanne. Be well.
Bulk not good for winter outdoor sports.
Nite Suz wishes for a speedy recovery and a restful nights sleep.
Especially for my favorite Hockey!
You betcha. Never did much skating, but hockey can get the sweats up for sure.
If you play lake hockey without pads bulk works great.
If only it were true.
WTF do you mean?? They have “Minds” could have fooled me!
good point – altho of course it didn’t stop W.
I stand corrected:)
Well on that note time to snuggle with sweetie so I will say good night to all you good Pups! Wishes of sweet dreams for all..
You take off layers as you warm up and after the game you put them on again.
Still with -20 and more wind chill sometimes it takes awhile to warm up.
Nite Nahant
G’nite, all!
G’nite all.
hey guys, just a drive by to give you what’s on my mind esp. after massive job losses, major bank scandals and etc etc
“They were careless people, Tom and Daisy — they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made…”
The Great Gatsby. F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Nite eCHAN
Schools use to close before global warming but yes if school was open there was outdoor recess. Illinois hasn’t had a great Snow since the 70’s.
Tom and Daisy
Bush and Cheney!
Nite Folks!
nite TCU
I’m late to the party again, but hey! Did you see how Rachel called herself a “liberal” right there on national teevee tonight, on her own show, without any embarrassment? You go, girl! More like this, please! The Republicans have had their day, making “liberal” some kind of curse word. But turn-about is fair play! Run up the flag of liberalism! Accuse people of being a “Republican” as if you’re hurling the worst epithet you can imagine!
Its time to turn the tables, baby.

Haw! Honky Tonk Train. I first heard this by Meade Lux Lewis back in the late 40’s when RCA re-released it on one of their new 45 RPM Microgroove album sets. Lewis played it a little faster. I’ve got that original record somewheres around here in all this mess.
