  • House GOP to obstruct — oh right they don’t matter.
  • They have a point — we really don’t need it.
  • Gaming a filibuster in the Senate.
  • With or without ‘em.
  • Republicans trying to Daschle Reid in 2010.

And, Miss mcConnell thinks that because Bush left that they are not still carrying his water? Huh? So…the economy has nothing to do with George and the GOP? And the two wars have nothing to do with George and the GOP? And the trashing of the Constitution has nothing to do with George and the GOP? And the evisceration of the competence of federal agencies has nothing to do with George and the GOP?
Mr. McConnell — suck it up. You guys are going to be carrying George Bush and Dick Cheney and their crimes and negligence around on your backs for many many years to come – 2010 and 2012 at the very least. And if you don’t stop being ‘the party of grouchy old white guys’, then you are looking at a future that closely approximates what happened to The Bull Moose Party as well. With or without Sarah Palin.

I can’t take issue with anyone, republican, democrat, or otherwise, taking on Harry Reid. He’s been a horrible, supine majority leader who is more willing to doi the bidding of the GOP than to support his fellow democrats.

I mean let’s see what we get with Reid: he helped bring the bad FISA bill to the floor; he refused to support dodd’s hold on FISA; he welcomed back Lieberman saying he’s the most progressive man in connecticut; there’s the roland burris failure; the failure to do anything to stop Alito; and on and on.

I would rather have a weak freshman republican representing nevada than a corrupt and powerful DINO like Reid.

The LA Times editorial is saying what folks here have been saying:Cornyn is Stupid

Cornyn’s outrageous confirmation demand
The GOP senator defies legal ethics by demanding that the attorney general nominee vow to not pursue any torture prosecutions.

“I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men.”

The Feds got one broken off in their ass here on the al-Arian case. His plea agreement was the best they could do out of all the defendants. Had an FBI agent in our office a few months ago doing a background check on someone applying for a job. I couldn’t pass up the chance to give her an earful about Sami.

I simply can’t understand why Snowe hasn’t jumped to the good guys. I live in Maine, and we see a lot of her on TV that the rest of the country doesn’t. In the interests of full disclosure, I also know her slightly, in a work context. She isn’t a Republican. Except for that (R) after her name. I heard an interview she did with a local TV station the other day and if you didn’t look at the screen, you would assume it was a liberal speaking…

Morning pups. Maureen Dowd is channelling Eugene Debs this morning. I guess she just realized that there are people a whole lot, whole lot, richer than she is, and that they are taking her hard-earned money (maybe not so hard-earned) to get even richer. More of that MoDo! Long live the Revolution!

His problem is that he’s not really that powerful. He got the gig because 1) he talking Jim Jeffords into defecting in 2001, which temporarily gave the Dems control of the Senate (control they lost in 2002), and 2) Tom Daschle — another Red State Dem — was zapped by the GOP in 2002. But the Blue Dogs (aka Dixiecrats) keep whining that we can’t have a leader from a safely-blue state.

Answering my own Q:

Matthews is married to Kathleen Matthews, who anchored News 7 on WJLA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C, before accepting a position as an Executive Vice President with J.W. Marriott. The couple has three children: Michael, Thomas and Caroline (currently a student at the University of Pennsylvania). His brother Jim Matthews, a Republican, is a County Commissioner in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

From his wiki.

Thanks as usual for the links BT.

I also visited The Great Orange Satan this morning.

Of particular note to me was MoDo’s offering.

It’s good to see her writing things worth reading again.

One small (very small) item from her column: Why does someone with her money even have a $400 Visa card bill?

All in (salary, lectures, books), she’s got to be pulling down a half million or more per year, so why in the world would you pay interest for lunch or clothes that you could certainly afford to pay for?

And please spare me the “use their money for a few weeks for free” bit. The card companies sell this tripe knowing that some large percentage of their customers will forget or procrastinate in sending their payment on time, and then the fun really begins.

One of the best things that ever happened to me was to torch my credit 10 years ago; it taught me the hard lesson of ‘pay as you go’. Now, other than to purchase a home or car (or emergencies), I find it hard to make sense of using credit for anything else.

Truer words were never spoken. Across the US, groups are trying to get rid of the Fed. More people would get involved if they realized that the Fed is the source of all their money woes. The President selects the Chairman and after that, the Fed runs the US. JFK tried to save the US with his Executive Order. It is the strangest thing; I have commented on this previously and the information is never responded to. Just like your 15 was not. Why do you think that is?
