From the New York Daily News:
Gov. Paterson’s decision to go nuclear on Caroline Kennedy was a hatchet job run by a pricey out-of-state consultant who specializes in political scandals, disgruntled administration sources said.
Judy Smith, a Washington-based PR guru and former Bush White House deputy press secretary, orchestrated the ill-conceived character attack on Kennedy, sources said Sunday.
Looks like Ms. Smith is an old hand at dealing with tawdry matters — besides selling her soul to the Bush administration, her client roster has included "Monica Lewinsky, the family of murdered Washington intern Chandra Levy, Louisiana Rep. William Jefferson, who is battling corruption charges, and scandal-scarred former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry."
THIS is who you got to advise you on smacking down Bloomberg/Kennedy, Governor? Oh, bravo, sir, bravo. But, hey, thanks for cracking the 2010 gubenatorial race wide open with your political ineptitude. Maybe we can even look forward to another Rudy-and-Judi Giuliani campaign. It’s just what New York needs . . . because 9/11 will never be enough.

Meow, or Grrrr!
OMG. Helarious. This was a train wreck he should have seen coming from that roster of clients.
This paraphrased from watertiger:
So it is just us dogs I believe…
Governance by self-immolation. What a novel idea. Wish the Republicans would try it more often (though actually seem to be doing a pretty good job lately).
Howlin’ at the moon.
Wait are you suggesting there was any chance that Rudy would not run in 2010?
Judi will leave Rudy if the Fame runs out or the money.
Exciting watertiger news: she will be writing for LN pups Wednesdays as well as Mondays. Be there.
Jeebus, Governor… I was full of self-pity for having Ahnald Shwatzenfool at the head of our state…
I almost feel sorry for Shumer and other New Yorkers – I said almost.
bu-bye
Possible Caroline was did well to disassociate herself from Paterson’s train wreck.
We should have a contest about who had worse political advisers: Caroline Kennedy or David Paterson? I say Caroline Kennedy because she lost her bid while Paterson is damaged but still has time to recover. None of this was rocket science for either party. Kennedy had only to make a halfway credible case for why she wanted the job. Paterson just needed to pick some solid New York City liberal and he was home free. It says a lot that they both blew it.
All Right! Double Thersdays and now double WTs. Life just keeps getting better. Must be all that hope in the air.
Seems safe to say that even Blago with the odds against him showed better judgement than Paterson.
It is beginning to look like that would be a good idea for anyone and everyone.
“-was did well-”
Ah speak English verra well. I learn it form a BOOOOK.
Which is a really scary thought.
FROM a book. Gad, I am hopeless.
Mostly with you except that the actual decision to run at all seems to me to be the most flawed choice in all of this.
Paterson’s train wreck, and Jane’s. Thank you, Jesus, that we escaped having that rabid gun-nut & anti-immigrant Caroline Kennedy in the Senate.
Tell you what, I’ swap Governors with you and throw in a Mayor to boot.
(Greetings from Chicago)
O/T — so far off-topic it’s not even funny, but *blush* I don’t hang out with any other groups, so …
For two days now, there has been a “box” around India that crashes Google Earth no matter whether you try to sneak a look at that country from the N, E, S, or W.
Feel free to put on your tinfoil hats.
Greater efficiency at least. Can’t read too much into the fact that Blago outmaneuvered Reid, however. An average five-year-old could do that.
Have to agree. She came in with nothing obvious to recommend her except the family name. Really doesn’t look good.
Yeah, because if it wasn’t going to be CKS, the only other choice would be Gillibrand. I think I read that somewhere.
Take my governator…please!
Whats the latest on Arnold and the state budget? Funny how Arnold can’t get the budget to balance without raising taxes. And he can’t get Anything done like he said he would.
One day I want an investigation into the timing of the Enron caused power shortage in California and just how quick the GOP was ready for a recall election and how quick everyone in the GOP lined up behind Arnold.
I wish this story would fade away already…
Using Blago and judgment in the same sentence is questionable outside of a civil court.
He *is* entertaining, even by Illinois standards.
BUt the mark of Fitz is upon him, and all the pandering to morning teevee will not adequately poison the jury pool, IMO.
was gray davis really that popular before the energy eff up? Arnold was always wanting to get into politics and a special recall election was the way to go.
Whoever told her that it would be a good idea on any front – shaping her personal agenda into policy, or keeping the Kennedy name in the Senate, whetever, it smells an awful lot like someone with a lot to lose (like one of Teddy’s staffers) was driving her to go. That feels wrong to say, but the other motivations don’t track even that well.
What, ya’ gone sour on Richard II? I remember was there when Little Richie was first elected. Of course, I didn’t vote for him and kept waiting for one of the annual corruption stings to finally nail him. Almost miss the political soap opera since I left 10 years ago.
Stop throing darts at our ex-President – we are trying to move past all that.
because 9/11 will never be enough.
there’s always room for Giul-O (TM)
I’m assuming that was snark. If so, you’ve touched on something important. Paterson’s dithering wouldn’t matter if he had appointed someone really excellent but after all of that the best he could manage was Gillibrand?
We have really pretty avenues with flower boxes now
(Thanks Mary)
And virtually no street food vendors
Nah, he was below average at best.
Yep. From here in the wilds of Montana, my interest level is quite low and don’t find either Kennedy or whatshername terribly exciting.
if you heat him up he turns into a sticky mess and runs away
So Jane made Paterson pass over CK for KG? Wow, I had no idea she had such power! I thought it had more to do with internal NYS politics (and making NY-20 go away when New York has to cough up a CD in the wake of the 2010 census).
And if you think that CK would have been unprimaried, as some have assumed, you’re not thinking of just how many NY Democratic pols — all of whom were tested in the white-hot crucible that is New York state politics — were and are after that seat.
That is a strawman. It was never either Kennedy or Gillibrand. Just because Kennedy was a lousy candidate didn’t obligate Paterson to pick someone equally bad but for other reasons.
Bummer, if I can’t purchase a hot-dog floating in the same water as it’s 1950s ancestors life loses all meaning.
He wasn’t poplar but he wasn’t that unpopular.
I suspect it’s all about NY-20 and the 2010 census. New York’s going to lose a seat, maybe two, and with KG gone the Democrats aren’t likely to hold it as it was gerrymandered to be a Republican seat. So it goes bye-bye.
Yeah, I remember when he started that whole campaign. Thought it was a bad idea at the time. Looks like I was right. No point in turning one of the greatest cities on earth into just another whitebread suburb.
do you remember who the dem candidates were v. ahnold?
Davis was the least charismatic politician you could imagine. He was little more than vapor, and it is a wonder his name even graced ballots instead of wisping away.
And that speaks only to the level of hackery in the CA Dem party for like, forever.
It is awful still.
As if there weren’t and aren’t eleventy-five-billion other NY Dems looking to take that seat, either now or in 2010. That seat was going to be primaried no matter what.
does anyone buy the sentiment that paterson wanted someone outside of manhattan and from upstate? I guess one NY rep (dem) wants to run against KG in the future. forget her name, older and female.
Yes, but there is the radioactive green pickle relish to kill any contaminants.
Today was the first day of the soon to be ex-Governor Blagojevich’s impeachment trial. He was a no show, being too busy to garner his last 15 minutes of fame on the media circuit.
You can, it just costs more indoors and doesn’t have the flavor.
Actually I am bemoaning the dearth of elotes.
Might end up losing a Senate seat in the bargain as well if KG or a candidate who wages a successful primary challenge can’t hold it.
Poisoning the jury pool.
Not for nothin did he hire Drew Peterson’s flacks
OK, that was my recollection also. I didn’t think his abilities exceeded his charm either. our whole state is a mess, really. Oh, and I do so enjoy when smaller states don’t get why we can’t get it together. It’s like comparing a sailboat to a barge when it comes to changing directions.
I just wish SuperDawg would open a branch downstate.
Yum! No hay mas???
love the place but feel violated when the carhop brings a $25 check for a couple dawgs, a burger and shakes
Arianna? With her over the top Gabor accent.
licensing is problematic
one can still get tamales from la senora with a cooler on the corner
night all
I only tried a burger once. Felt too ridiculous requesting something with a name like “Whoopercheesie.” Anyway, the dawgs are so good with everything including hot peppers (he commented, drooling).
Cya mack.
Night. Enjoy the city while you still have it.
Well the current jury is the state Senate and they are not so much poisoned as pissed. As for Fitzgerald, IIRC he got a 90 extension so the indictment should come down in late March or early April, then there are motions and such, I wouldn’t expect a trial until maybe next year. By then, anyone asked about who Blago is will probably think it is that big guy in the Popeye cartoons.
My personal fav was Demon Dogs under the El at Fullerton. Of course that was not far from my neighborhood.
He wasn’t terribly corrupt as I recall, but when he laid an egg, it was usually a whopper.
During his last campaign for instance, he had a stop at Cal State Fullerton, which was pretty much mandatory if you want to be Governor.
His campaign attempted to charge students a fee to attend on campus (students without the appropriate scratch were denied access to the event), then denied it, then confirmed it, then fired a bunch of people, then …
There were flyers about the appearance, and the flyers listed the fee to attend.
Yeah, we discussed that awhile back. I had a friend who lived for many years near Belmont and Racine. Great location and very near your old stomping grounds.
Yeah, about two blocks. I was at Clifton and Roscoe (a block east and two north).
And the fresh cinnamon rolls at Ann Sathers… I know a couple years ago Chicago had the honor of being named America’s fattest city. Hard to imagine why.
Casey Stengel might have asked this question to these amazin NY Pols.
Yeah, and Giordano’s Pizza, Mama Desta’s Ethiopian, four or five Japanese places a couple of good Mexican joints,…… *sigh*
If you ever want to revisit your old haunts, Google Maps has a pretty good street view of the area.
Powering down. A splendid evening to all.
Night.
My Google Earth works fine on India
Did you mean Indiana?
Think I will head out as well. Take care all.
I admit that I didn’t follow this train wreck all that closely, but it seemed to me that the only “hatchet job” done on Caroline Kennedy was, you know, done by, you know, Caroline Kennedy herself. I’m not all that happy with Paterson’s pick, but she has two years to prove herself. As for the involvement of Judy Smith, I’ll take the word of the “disgruntled administration sources” with a grain (or two) or salt.
nite ratfood
nite doctor
Psst. I AM ALL POWERFUL!
Pass it on.
Lack of wisdom from the outset seemed to grow exponentially, beginning with the decision to allow her name to be considered. If those around her had been mildly circumspect, she would never have had to defend her good name. It is they who I am pissed at. But she is a big girl.
Digg right here!
Them daze, my deah hoss or hossette, were teh beginnings of da endz timuhz. *G*
I’m glad I’m not alone to recall them . . . . hell, most folks can’t recall Nixon as a CA Senator or Reagan as Governor . . . . and the pure and utter destruction they all raged upon us all. *G*
Will no one rid me of this meddlesome moderator? *G*
All your comments are in the clear, Larue. Please refresh and see.
Au contraire.
It sounds to me like the Kennedy & Cuomo PR Machines called in some markers to Zuckerman and the gang at the NY Daily News today.
Only the Camelot-4-Lifers and the Manhattan Dems care about this story. Trust me, the rest of New York state is okay with Patterson’s selection.
Evenin’ all !
As a self- deprecating Indian who howled at the stereotypes of Peter Sellers in The Party, I must protest this photo … what evil has India wrought upon you to deserve this insult ? /s
Dugg
gosh, it takes you all long enough to post the Digg when I’m not around to do it for you…*g*
thanks, newton
Dude… you misunderstand.
Oh, maybe not.
Hey, my friend! Good evening.
I am weak and lazy. What can I say?
*not asking where the heck neuro has been for the last hour-plus*
Couldn’t you ease us into it with, say a photo of Romney or McCain … someone less evil than teh Ghoul ?
Christine !
Care for a Tipple ? It’s awfully cold up here …
my first remark was in jest, the thanks was sincere
if you must know, I was on the phone with my dear mother…:)
You don’t have a direct line to watertiger and say “This Petro is gonna be pissed if you post that?”
Brrrrr this weekend, but heat wave tonight at 18 F. Sure wish I had that Christmas Day cider-rum punch my brother made — wow it was great.
Did you say Cider-Rum Punch ?
Looks like I’m friends with the wrong sibling. *g*
Well, if it’s WT, I guess I’m thankful she didn’t put teh Ghoul in a Sari … *g*
here ya go, Christine…*g*
Oh, yeah,
It had gallons of cider, citrus stuffed with cloves, apples and cups of rum. At 11:00 a.m. It was wonderful, and really, all the booze cooked off so we just had all the flavor.
When it comes to playing dress-up, Rudy doesn’t need any of our help. He is, in a fashion sense, his own food group.
Hi Chris, we’re getting a storm, I hear.
oh neuro, that was exactly that! But in giant mugs, we had such a great time. And it was so lovely to have three generations of us all together.
They say the same about West Indian Rum Cake and let me just say that a nibble would render
an Ox unconscious !
Luckily, none of us are Oxen … *g*
Hiya Margot!
We have turned on the little oil heaters, and closed all the doors. Let it snow1
Oh I know, esp. with Ladies’ Clothing !
heh, heh,
My fruitcake, drowned in cheap scotch, was really, really great this year.
! Snow there yet?
Do you soak the fruits(and we’re back to Giuliani) in Alcohol for a while before baking the Cake.
No.
Cake is baked with four pounds of dried fruit and nuts. Cooled. Laced with booze every two days (choice of rum, scotch, brandy). Should be baked the week before Thanksgiving and served on December 24th with loved ones (who love fruitcake).
Well,
since we are so OT, and I love seeing my FDL pals late at night, I should reveal that we are watching “Almost Famous” — great music.
oooooo
something about that flik…
MrCE and I sing alot in this film.
I haven’t seen that one yet but my all time faves are Singin’ in the Rain and every other Gene Kelly movie.
OT – The cake sounds good, but I was wondering how often Christy posts. Does she have a publishing schedule right now or is she taking a break?
I think what I admire about it most is that it didn’t go for a happy ending, and Crowe proves that the journey IS the reward.
What a ride!
Petro,
Funny that my Ms.CE at 25, loves all Gene Kelly musicals. She knows all the words. I’m more Woodstock, (looks at floor, with funny smile)
Newt, IT IS THE JOURNEY. Thanks for saying what I’ve forgotten.
g’evening, Firepups! Stopping by for a brief HI on my way to bed. To my astonishment, my 80-yr-old mom did a happy dance when i told her this afternoon that Conyers subpoenaed Rove.
I remember watching it towards the end, saying to myself, “Let Penny Lane go to the winds. No one should own her.”
It was perfect.
Perhaps Jane might know, I’m sorry I don’t know anything about her schedule except that I miss her writing very much.
{{{ NDFG }}}
MrCE says,
“why do we love this music so much?”
Because we can remember when Jimi and Creedence and Mayall and Leon Russell, and all the rest were just coming up.
{{{ PETRO! }}}
Speaking of music…
Eureka Springs is upstairs!
Late Late Nite FDL: Down Home
Yes – it’s been a while since we heard from her, and I miss her too. There is just something about her voice, her brain, and her heart.
*Zgnpfmh* … you farm girls have strong arms … *g*
Christy is on vacation … perhaps TLM knows when she’ll be back.
Very unofficially now…
Be here in the morning.
Otherwise, zipped lips.
That is all.
LOL !!!
Sending a Box of Lindt through teh Toobz for ya !
… and please tell RBG that I said, “Hey !”
Chris:
Yes lots of snow, already had the scraper guy come by on our little street just a few minutes ago. Usually they wait.
