EPU’ed regarding the stimulus package:
As I see it, we’re playing fair with facts and reason. The repubs are playing dirty with distortions and one-line zingers. And Obama seems to not want to criticize repubs in the spirit of bipartisanship. I think O’s wrong. So, we’ll keep trying to clear up the lies they’re telling in gentlemanly ways and they’ll keep bloodying us. Who do you think will win?

For the last 8 years the grand ole party did not see a bill coming out of the WH that it disliked. It’s a new day in America and it seems only republicans are qualified to run congress. So much for bi-partisanship huh Mr. McCain?

Although completely predicted, it’s still funny to see the Repub selective memory operations at work, and how the BigMedia amplifies it ad nauseum.

Repubs controlled Congress from 1994-2006, and the White House 2000-2008 (I’d say 1980-2008 since BigMoney got EVERYTHING they wanted under Clinton), and yet, the BigMedia mavens are already treating Repubs as the “responsible” Party concerned about the “American people,” while Dems are those crazy tax and spenders who hve no idea what they’re doing.

The truth is…Liberalism would’ve prevented this current collapse, and Liberalism is the only thing that will get us out. If Obama’s plan don’t work, it’ll be because his plans weren’t Liberal enough.

saw this in the Guardian,is he related to HANKY PANKY?

John Paulson, hedge fund boss
He has been described as the “world’s biggest winner” from the credit crunch, earning $3.7bn (£1.9bn) in 2007 by “shorting” the US mortgage market – betting that the housing bubble was about to burst. In an apparent response to criticism that he was profiting from misery, Paulson gave $15m to a charity aiding people fighting foreclosure.
CHEAP BASTARD gave 13 million to charity

He has to go before the public to circumvent the Republican bs that the corporate media is so willing to promote. Use the bully pulpit and take the Republicans and a corrupted, complicit and compromised corporate media head on. If he continues to try and garner bipartisanship with Republicans he will play right into their hands.

Due process = objectively pro-terrorist.

Journalists are usually very careful to distinguish between “alleged thief” and “thief,” even in the case of Bernie Madoff, but they drop those distinctions when writing about alleged terrorists. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the phrase “alleged terrorist” in the MSM, but maybe that’s my oversight.

In any case, the vast majority of people incarcerated at Guantanamo have turned out to be innocent men and not terrorists at all, as witnessed by the fact that the Bush Administration let them go without even trying them.

Krugman. Gotta love a guy who ends a NYT’s opinion piece with:

The most encouraging thing I’ve heard lately is Mr. Obama’s reported response to Republican objections to a spending-oriented economic plan: “I won.” Indeed he did — and he should disregard the huffing and puffing of those who lost.

This is a great opinion piece. Krugman needs to be heard far and wide.

The terrorists are the guys who buy their small arms from Russia, Eastern Europe and China. The Good Guys buy their weapons from the USA. Except in cases like Afghanistan in the 1980’s when the US armed the nascent Al Qaida with Stinger missiles and such to use against the Soviets. And in Iraq when Rumsfeld sold Saddam mustard gas and such.

I think Obama and the Dems know that they are not going to convert the remaining House Republicans to act in a bipartisan manner. They all represent far right constituencies. But the Dems can pass the stimulus bill in the House with no problem.

The issue is the Senate, where the Dems need two Repub votes and Bluedog votes to pass over any philibuster. Obama’s bipartisan approach is widely supported by public and gives cover/impetus for the few moderate Republicans and Bluedogs to support the measure.

Per the Wikipedia:

At present, there is no internationally agreed definition of terrorism.[2][3] Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal (as opposed to a lone attack), and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants.

What you’ll find if you look through the literature is the word “illegal” in front of “violence against …” The point is that they want a way to argue that, say, our air raids of WWII were not “terrorism.”

Right. And it seems to me, this is exactly the slippery slope one starts to descend when trying to tie it down. I guess “legal violence” is violence when we do it and “illegal violence” is violence when they do it.
