Zed ES good eve
Evening ES! Hows the weather back there?
Good evening
Eureka!
The ice storm cometh, nahant. Though not nearly as cold as our early winter snaps.
DIGG is Open Pups!
This sounds pretty good.
Bolivia vote backs new constitution
doesn’t bolivia have the largest titanium deposit that is in great demand for battery production?
I didn’t know that.
remember reading it – this is not the one i read (cant find it) but has a lot of the same info
I’m posting an I/P link here, since the Gaza thread seems to be closed now. CBS 60 minutes has a great segment on the West Bank and what it means for peace prospects
CIA World Factbook sez:
Wow, doesn’t sound like very much is out there.
anyone so inclined may digg the CBS segment here
Gaza thread is still open, though I begin to wish it weren’t.
Very nice of you to link that. I missed it, will watch soon. And Dugg.
And Hmmm – that thread is going to heal up.
Obama lays out Middle East vision
So the BBC may reconsider its boycott of aid organizations that seek to ask for placment of relief ads. Now that Obama has announced aid from the USA they look pretty cad over at BBC…in fact they suck rotten eggs.
Here’s one I had. Taipei Times
Good to hear. I pretty much gave up on 60 minutes a few years ago… especially after KC joined up.
Eureka, Newman is good.
Welp, I’m off to find some grub. Good to see all y’all here, I was on The Biz Trip That Ate My Brain for a while there and have been missing you. Be excellent to one another.
Straight up and solid, isn’t he? I almost dismissed him at first listen.. after a couple of rounds… this band grabbed me.
Hello from the frozen snowy midwest, where continuous school weeks are but a hazy memory…
Good †ø have you back.
i have no idea where i read it – but i do remember the factoid – my girls call me cliff clavin for a reason yanno
(laughing)
And as I cruised over to his MySpace site, up came the Beatles-like “Submarines of Stockholm edit”
Interesting.
Hey newt, right now singing Hey Jude (sarz). So lovely.
Right now, this version of “The One After 909″ has me pretty well amazed.
And yes, that IS George on that astounding lead. It is difficult to see, but it’s him.
Such performers.
Wow the 60 Minutes segment was pretty interesting in more ways than one. It is the first time I have seen anything put out by the American MSM that shows Israel in anything but perfect light. I must say it is about time. I must also admit that the ADL and the Bush administration have made many Americans afraid to speak their minds on the subject of Palestinian and Israeli issues. Maybe a new tide has turned?
Realized after posting – it didn’t directly speak to the issue at hand :-(
Will be interesting to see how our new administration interacts with the bolivarian countries.
i’m sure it will be a hella lot better than the way boosh interacted with them
So why were the comments closed at Siun’s Gaza thread?
I’ve been watching on-line communities react to confrontations between Israel and their local adversaries since about 1985 – pre-www days. This Gaza siege/bombing/invasion is the first time I’ve seen this much potential for growth, understanding and peace. Giving birth to peace and hope can sometimes be painful.
Hey ET – they are open for me. You mean here?
comments are not closed on siun’s thread et – it has only been up for 5 hours
Sorry, I didn’t mean the Gaza thread was shut, just that it was winding down and I wanted to make sure that more people saw the CBS link.
It takes two to tango and unfortunately it doesn’t seem that we have partners willing to dance with one another. It reminds me of fifth grade class when we were being taught to dance, neither the boys or the girls wanted to make the first move toward a partner. How sad that grown ups can do no better.
I found the 60 minutes page mentioned above. Going to watch the video of the segment later. Over 1500 comments there.. What a mess.
Hi sophie – people have been afraid to speak their minds about so much for so long. Think we intuited everything was being hoovered – “watch what you say, watch what you do.”
Early warnings about people having atlases pushed me over the edge. Surreal.
Hi Sophie just viewed that program. It is shocking even for an old peace freak. No rights at all. USA is supporting a non democratic state. “God gave the Palestinian lands to Jews” said the mayor of one of the settlements. The story has been so lopsided for so long that the Jews have gotten a free ride on their crime spree.
Happy ObamaCo is putting the peace process back on the front burner.
Isn’t it the truth. I personally, I am ashamed to say, have been afraid to speak, or write my mind, on many occasions in recent years. How sad and pathetic is that?
duh – sorry, pups. I had looked up Siun’s white phosphorus Gaza thread earlier today, and went there by accident a few minutes ago.
It is very sad that the Israelis took as a lesson from the halocaust, not ways to get along and improve relations with one’s adversaries, but instead an emulation of their own worst enemies.
History teaches us that evil is not to be confined to one race or one religion.
Tell Bush what you think of him.
True that. The covert stuff will tell the tale — ultimately.
To funny.
The Mudflats has a great story up by a woman who went with her husband from their little village of Nunam Iqua to Emmonak to shop.
I’m doing a lot of research on the decline of the Yukon River salmon runs over the past 30 years.
The 60 Minutes segment showed Israeli soldiers taking over Palestinian homes, holding the families hostage, unable to leave for jobs, unable to speak to journalists. I am sorry to say this reminds me of Nazi Germany in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. Facts, as they say, are facts.
I become a sputtering idiot when trying to articulate my rage at Chimpy. This page helped a little.
Hugh’s list gets me sputtering and red-faced again.
The actions of the Nazi’s are so easy to equate to any current atrocity because of the time passed, I guess.
This is deplorable, but comparisons to the Nazi’s are a disservice to history, in my humble opinion. It is simply incorrect, and on a colossal scale.
I respectfully disagree. The scale of things shouldn’t be the only measure, the intent is just as significant. If you saw the actual reality of what is going on in the Israeli/Palestinian territories and heard the intent of the Israelis, in their own words, maybe you would understand.
One more thing, I do not use the Nazi comparison easily or loosely, EVER.
Nahant…had a lady call off of my Low Income housing website from Sedona AZ looking for a place in central ca coast. When I mentioned Nahant she went awe struck as she lived there before moving West. Gave her lots of contacts and told her about FDL and yourself. She sais few peoplw have heard of Nahant Maas…but we at the Lake are well informed coutesy of you.
I’m still avoiding it. Totally.
that’s sweeeeeet…
Learned a lot today here at the Lake…wonderful source of not so main stream. Jane is pushing the MSM towards more transparency. Mighty good job.
And with a wink and a nod to sleep perchance to dream…of a better life for all of Earth’s amazing creatures.
It is a culturally easy thing to avoid. I just hope we don’t avoid it so totally that we become culpable in allowing it to be reenacted. The scale is irrelevant.
My response at 57 was in response to ET at 54.
He spent 27 years in front of the White House. He died on Friday.

How was your trip?
Do you have a link?
I mean a link to news of his death. That was a sweet man.
This most recent one was great: Taco Bell and the all-night donut store. The 6-nighter that ended Friday was a little more challenging.
wow. What a wonder man.
Taco Bell, hmmm, I must question something here. Where was the 6-nighter?
Very ballsy guy!
Anaheim, “America’s Hub of Happiness,” for a rather large musical instrument industry convention.
I love that in a man!
Turning into a pumpkin here.
Good night firedogs…)
‘Night, ES. Sweet dreams to ye. Tomorrow is another week.

I must say, except for the Happiest Place on Earth/Disneyland, which I harbor a sweet spot in my heart despite all anticonsumer sentiment against it, Anaheim is not a great representation of California. I hope you got to see other places here as well (I happen to live in California and love much of it).

ES, you are wimping out on us at such an early hour “;)
Mt. Redoubt – 110 miles from me:
Peace and sweet dreams ES.
Hey, no argument — I’m a native and lifelong Californian myself, and live in Oakland. Disneyland is interesting, I used to be writing a book on it in fact, but there was no time to go look at it. Just meetings all day every day.
My best wishes for your safety and that of your family and friends and community go with you ET. May the volcano near you although energetic, remain passive. Bless you and yours.
nite ES. Sweet dreams.
Thanks.
It blows every eight years or so. I’ve gotten some great pictures. We’ve collected some great ash. Good use for old pantyhose, putting layers of ‘em over the cars’ air cleaners.
I just have sweet memories of Disneyland growing up, no excuses for the Disney Corporation. I even have Mickey Mouse baseball caps that I still wear on occasion to this day!
Panty hose should be good for something….!
Magnitude 5.7? Hardly even exciting….
Just a minor rock and roll.
Attaturk is upstairs!
And how’d that work out for you?
