They’re not booing, they’re going Boooooooosh

As a citizen, of America and the world, I’m damn glad they’re gone. But as a blogger, I tell ya’ Mitch McConnell and Boehner are just not as ripe a target. If the GOP nominates an over-tanned, teary-eyed, chinless wonder in 2012 the material is going to seem awfully stale. If the Republicans would be so kind as to keep the talk shows ass-deep in Eric Cantor or Adam Putman it would help.

And speaking of ripe targets, even as Bush was booed and people pointed and laughed at Dick "Mr. Potter Blofeld Strangelove Judge Doom Big Lebowski Ironside" Cheney, there was one man particularly beloved by the millions on the National Mall via National Review blogger Yuval Levin:

This was, understandably, a very partisan crowd in which I was badly out of place. The loudest boos, to my surprise, were not for Bush and Cheney, who got plenty, but for Joe Lieberman when he was shown on the huge television screens — more than one voice could be heard shouting “traitor” around where I was standing…

Welcome to the rest of your life Joe, and you didn’t even get a dinner out of it.

Had no idea that octogenarian, flyover dwelling, non-websurfing mom knew who Lieberman was —though she’s certainly up on things in general— until she erupted recently when his name came up on a news broadcast. Nothing in particular, just the fact that he always seems to be loudly out of place at the moment when things, like Presidential elections, go wrong.

Oh yeah, and that thing about endorsing every Republican in sight this fall while trying to plunk down in the middle of the Democratic caucus. He and his might think that only crazed bloggers notice things like that, but I know a veteran lace-tatter who’ll get him another think coming.

But we’ve got better days in prospect now, if more boring ones in the invective category, eh?

More than one million people gathered in the US capital to see Barack Obama sworn in as America’s 44th president.
The event was captured by the Earth-imaging satellite GeoEye-1 which took these pictures of from an altitude of 423 miles (680 km). The picture on the left was taken in December and shows an empty National Mall; to the right you can see the vast swarms of people who turned out to see the inauguration.

Good morning, pups! It’s MoDo and Friedman today. MoDo gives us “Exit the Boy King,” and says not since Klaatu landed in a flying saucer on the Ellipse has Washington been so mesmerized by an object whirring through the sky. Mr. Friedman hopes for a “Radical in the White House.” He says his most fervent hope about President Obama is that he will be as radical as this moment — that he will put everything on the table.

Here they are.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a selection of bagels and cream cheese. It’s arctic (well, by our standards) here today, at 27° so you poor pups up north must really be suffering. The news I read this morning that President Obama moved to halt the military tribunals at Gitmo warmed my heart, if not my toes. Have a great day.

I just watched a clip of President Obama signing the confirmation of the Cabinet members that were confirmed yesterday. He was seated surrounded by Pelosi, Hoyer, Biden, Feinstein, and Reid.

The look on his face as he opened his pen and signed the document was priceless. The image of the six applauding white people surrounding a seated black man, the man in charge, was more than priceless.

Things are different already.

Well, in order to issue a pardon you’ve got to acknowledge a pardonable offense. God knows we all understand that W and his gang of thugs and fixers were guilty of unpardonable offenses, and now it appears that W agrees with us, at least as far as the “unpardonable” bit goes… I don’t think he has any concept that he/they did anything illegal. Amazing, actually…

It’s 18 degrees here, brrr. Earlier I went out to buy the NYTimes and the AJC. Hopefully, I don’t toss these like I did the day after the election.
Mark Shields said that what amazed him was when Obama went back to his office and Nancy Pelosi, an Italian Anmerican, Feinstein, Jewish and Harry Reid a Mormon stood next to him. The faces of America.

I found Obama’s speech to be depressing. He had some great lines but this sentence stopped my world.

These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land – a nagging fear that America’s decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.

Is anyone watching GMA? It seems as though the White House staff had special plans for the Obama girls. They planned a scavenger hunt so they could learn their way around the White House. Behind one door was The Jonas Brothers. Can you imagine the yells that occurred when they opened the door.
