Dionne wrote:

Standing in the crowd in front of the Capitol and watching all this, I had a terrible fear that if Obama had followed Roberts down the road to error, some conservative legal group, with massive support from conservative talk radio, would have brought a lawsuit arguing that Obama’s presidency was illegitimate because he hadn’t properly recited the oath. Far-fetched? Yes, but this country has gone through a lot, what with the Clinton impeachment, Florida and other incidents of political madness.

I read somewhere that they were discussing this on Fox Noise as it happened yesterday. Co-inkydink?

The wingnuts know no shame. I’m sure Roberts isn’t the slightest bit embarrassed about flubbing it and I’m sure no media sort will ever ask him about it.

I’m actually with them on the pay issue. As I understand it they haven’t gotten a raise in many years and earn less than $200,000 per year. Now power and prestige makes up for a lot of pay, but still think you should make it closer to what private sector lawyers make to attract talented people. I think that’s a problem all across the board for federal judges, isn’t it? Low pay also creates a revolving door, where someone will take the appointment long enough to buff up their resume, then take a higher paying private job.

He may still be a SCJ, just not chief justice…Come on, you don’t survive flubbing the Constitution in such an historic, public setting. History books will forever write that the Chief Justice got the oath wrong and Obama corrected him. This is one of the biggest Presidential history story to tell in the lifetime of our country.

Even I would know to step down as Chief Justice after that.

I saw a video clip yesterday of Bush in Midland. He looked and sounded drunk as a skunk. Haven’t been able to find it again. It was on ABC evening news, I think. Did anyone else see that?
