from BT’s link: Obama Administration to halt Gitmo trials. (my bold)

Hours after taking office on Tuesday, U.S. President Barack Obama ordered military prosecutors in the Guantanamo war crimes tribunals to ask for a 120-day halt in all pending cases.

Military judges were expected to rule on the request on Wednesday at the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, an official involved in the trials said.

The request would halt proceedings in 21 pending cases, including the death penalty case against five Guantanamo prisoners accused of plotting the September 11 hijacked plane attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.

Prosecutors said in their written request that the halt was “in the interests of justice.”

excellent!

Thanks for the hearings links, selise. My sorry senator must puff and posture about Hillary. We tried to get rid of him this election, but he had Rove campaigning for him…..go figure.

Here is link to video of Pete Seeger and Bruce Springstien leading the crowd yesterday in singing ‘This Land Is Our Land’. It’s a keeper!

Apparently Tucker and Joe Scabs are running with the new talking points.

America has become a police state.

Must have happened in the last half day since Obama took over.

They have become the whiny, always offended putzes they used to accuse the left of being.

A new sun is shining on the world today. It’s not all about what Obama is going to do for the country. What are YOU going to do for the country? Yeah, shades of JFK. Guess I live in a time warp. Stepmother always said I was born either a hundred years too early or a hundred years too late.

Off to buy a new machine.

Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.

Upon hearing that Obama had suspended all the military commission trials at GITMO, I felt he had put a solid piller under his promises.

Now, if ‘in the interest of justice’, he would go after those responsible for the crimes committed at GITMO, Abu Graib and Bogram in Afganistan then America would truly be on the road back to the America some of us remember.

So Lush Limpbawl is saying he wants Obama “to fail.”

I wish Obama would immediately request an interview on his show by announcing, “I heard some really hateful, and unAmerican talk from someone with a lot of influence. I would welcome a chance to find out why he feels this way about America.” Turning the tables on Lush would totally expose this charlatan and probably reduce his audience substantially. We need to take it to this haters. Kill ‘em with kindness and the people will follow.

WJ guest talking about Obama’s promises (some 510). Here’s my email Q:

The press kept giving President W. Bush many successive Friedman Units (6-month periods, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedman_(unit), right up until the end of his second term. Will the press treat President Obama equally, by continuing to giving one more FU after another to accomplish what he said he said he was going to accomplish?

Mornin’ SD. I saw a program on Pete Seeger some time back about his training camps for young people. Maybe there are some young ones who can take up the banner after him. The years ahead may be the proving ground for his successor, as the hard times of the Great Depression brought forth Woody Guthrie.

Dionne’s editorial is great! I loved Obama’s face yesterday when he gave the head nod and eye glance to Roberts as if he was stating, “Try that again.”

I wonder how long it will take Roberts’ health issues to kick in and cause early retirement?

One can only hope.

You know, it could be kind of fun for Obama. He can have lots of dinners with groups of constitutional scholars and remember to invite Roberts…Oh the pain on Roberts’ face each time he walks into the room as he wonders if everyone is thinking, “Hey, look it’s the justice who flubbed up the Constitution and the administering of the oath of office.”

He may still be a SCJ, just not chief justice…Come on, you don’t survive flubbing the Constitution in such an historic, public setting. History books will forever write that the Chief Justice got the oath wrong and Obama corrected him. This is one of the biggest Presidential history story to tell in the lifetime of our country.

Even I would know to step down as Chief Justice after that.

I’m actually with them on the pay issue. As I understand it they haven’t gotten a raise in many years and earn less than $200,000 per year. Now power and prestige makes up for a lot of pay, but still think you should make it closer to what private sector lawyers make to attract talented people. I think that’s a problem all across the board for federal judges, isn’t it? Low pay also creates a revolving door, where someone will take the appointment long enough to buff up their resume, then take a higher paying private job.

Standing in the crowd in front of the Capitol and watching all this, I had a terrible fear that if Obama had followed Roberts down the road to error, some conservative legal group, with massive support from conservative talk radio, would have brought a lawsuit arguing that Obama’s presidency was illegitimate because he hadn’t properly recited the oath. Far-fetched? Yes, but this country has gone through a lot, what with the Clinton impeachment, Florida and other incidents of political madness.
