For a guy who supposedly doesn’t care about being popular, this is getting pathetic.
No doubt, the former Commander Guy was certainly down after the humiliations of yesterday. After getting booed by his fellow citizens (has that ever happened?), he had to sit there and take it as Obama read his party and administration the riot act. In addition to the ideological recriminations, phrases like "pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off" (from the Bush wreckage) and "our winter of hardship" (caused by Bush) and "restore the vital trust between a people and their government" (broken by Bush) must’ve sounded like nails on a chalkboard to W.
Maybe that explains why he ended his last day in office with yet another glowing assessment of his own performance.
“I’m coming home with my head held high and a sense of accomplishment,” he told a crowd of several thousand that jammed Centennial Plaza.
Really. Why not just say, "It’s great to be home" or "I’m proud to have served my country"? Isn’t it, uh, a little presumptuous of him to be determining whether or not he’s accomplished anything, especially given the towering shitpile he’s left in his wake?
Let’s look at what Bush told Rick Perry after Perry succeeded him as Governor of Texas.
Tuesday, the man elevated into the job as governor when Bush became president recalled how Bush urged him to keep the state in good shape for his return.
“He looked me in the eye before he left and said, ‘Perry, I want you to be a good Boy Scout. And Boy Scouts leave their camp better than they found it,” Perry said. “
It’d be nice if Bush applied the Boy Scout standard to himself and STFU about his awesome accomplishments.

I heard somewhere that there were something like 1800 “unclaimed” tickets to this “fete” for Bush — and the damn tickets were FREE!!
Delusional.
Yes, he had to sit there, but did he get it that he was getting excoriated or were the words too hard? I was booing too. I will boo any criminal who trashed our constitution. Talk about crossing your fingers while taking the oath of office. Yeah, he suddenly cares about being popular. gimme a break.
btw, obama signing eo’s about ethics and transparency and lobbyists. it rocks!
Chimpy did everything except leave a paper bag full of doggy doo burning on the front steps of the Whitehouse.
Can we now allow this callow man and Sarah Palin to fade away for the time being?

Well, he sure transferred the wealth like he promised his cronies. That’s GOT to count for something in his book. He followed the “Shock doctrine” impeccably. And that is what he set out to do. thsi was no failed presidency.
And now the Republicans are throwing every wrench in the book to stall his nominations and even question the legitimacy of his presidency after the Roberts messup with the oath. And nobody can tell me THAT was a “mistake”. Roberts had an attitude from the minute he stepped up there. I really despise him for what he did in that incredible moment of a lifetime.
Why is Tweety saying bad form? These guys on TV get to most of the public officials and ask, especially the President, softball questions. We, on the other hand, the normal people that came from all over this great country had to endure the last 8 years of millions of jobs lost, stocks hitting the basement floor, real wages being stagnent. We have not forgot this just because it is a special occasion. If this president would have appeared before his fellow citizens more often, instead of staged military men and women, or specifically picked republicans, he would have known this was coming. This was the average mans opportunity to voice his dissatisfaction of the last 8 years that has rarely been heard in the mainstream media other than my man olbermann. I am glad I was there to boo right along with my fellow Americans.
Defensive much? If it were true it would not be necessary to speak the words.
worst ever. let’s make sure he goes ta jail.
Looked him in the eye, eh! That’s another thing I’ve grown allergic to over these eight years: that “tough-guy,straight talking,”heart of gold,” look-you-in-the eye and smoke’em out” talk that Bush fawners have attributed to Chimpy over the years.
Of course he held his head high and had a sense of accomplishment. He accomplished what he set out to do:
Make money for himself and his cronies.
Privatize still more of the military.
Destroy the economy for all but the rich.
Make the world hate America so that we always feel threatened.
Etc…
I’m hoping Dante missed a Circle of Hell in his writing – the worst one. That’s where these “people” belong.
Really. When do you NOT look someone in the eye.
Who shall open digg, and under what ‘category’?
This is hardly the ’stuff’ of ‘news’, political or world.
Consider that day, hopefully soon upon us, when Bu$h the Pathetic, is not quoted or stroked, and that the ‘evidence’ of his ‘passage’ through the bowels of absurdity are no longer examined for their auguries …
When whatever mess is being dealt with, is simply described as ‘evidence’ for legal consideration, then Bu$h will be where he most deserves to be. And whatever he has, then, to say or whine about will be judged against the record of his many deceits and depredations.
What were those famous words of his?
No, not “Mission Accomplished”, but “Bring …
NONE OF US should ever be in the position to be judged on national teevee by the likes of Chris Mathews. He’s a complete weather vane moron and we should all be free of his spew now and forever, but should NEVER have to take anything LIKE a scolding or moral platitude from an asshat like that. It’s not his call. If he wants to sneak behind the curtain and suck Bush off, GO FOR IT. As for the rest of us, we’ll say what we damned well want. Seems to me I woke up to the entire United States having returned to a FREE SPEECH ZONE, like it was my entire life before the disaster monkey came to town. So tweetz can muzzle his goddamned beak. NOW AND FOREVER.
he’s a dick.
pardon the language, but i’m not in a mood for this chit anymore!
When I’m so full of sh*t, I can’t stand to see if another person is watching.
DIGG IT
Thanks BT “Bush should have just tucked tail between his leg’s and slunk off into the garbage heap of history. He is by far the worst thing to inhabit the White House, I sure hope the Obama people scoured the White House with Lysol ™. I know I wouldn’t want to live there after that shit pile was living there before me with out a total disinfection of the premises!
Is anyone else have problems with
DIGG today??
After the 2004 election I tried not to dwell on how long it would be before we got rid of Bush. Despite the huge shitpile he created that has to be cleaned up, today I am feeling a palpable sense of relief that he is no longer perched on top of it.
GWB is expecting to receive the same measure of accountability with which he governed. Sorry George no medal of Freedom for you
Exactly. More evidence of putting party before country.
It was the moment of a lifetime, with the whole world watching. You don’t mess that up. It wasn’t just a stutter or lapse but completely FUBAR.
Ah, the dread ‘fatal error’ warning?
Yes.
And another thing…
Bush is lucky no more eggs or shoes were thrown. I’m sick of beltway people telling us how to behave like we’re the unwashed. That was some freedom of expression, Tweety. get used to it.
I’ll say it again. I will not show any measure of respect to former “president” bush.
As a former boy scout, I can only note that, given present conditions, it will be rather easy for Obama to carry out this advice.
Kassandra #5 is right on target.
If the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court cannot do one of the most important jobs he is ever required to do, in front of a billion people watching, at a moment of this magnitude in history, when it only requires reading 35 words in order, I’d say we have a severe deficient brain problem in the SC. What he did was inexcusable ANY way you look at it.
all right, another thing. if you want to talk about bad form? how about all the bad form of bush??? how about a little thing like Jenna sticking ########## out at the press? Yeah. great manners. I think she’s grown up a little maybe but not her dad.
So I’m rubber, you’re glue, bushy. If that’s childish, fine. Same to you and more of it.
Someone pointed out to me yesterday the bizarre appearance of
Dr. StrangeloveDick Cheney at the inauguration. My friend suggested that Cheney was faking it. “How does a guy who has two doctors and an ambulance on site 24/7 hurt his back moving boxes? It is more likely that he didn’t want to stand as a black man took the sacred oath of office.”I think Cheney actually did stand for the oath. I thought he was just trying to do anything to distract attention. I also thought the well-spoken John Roberts did a good job of marring an otherwise near perfect change of power. Did he do it on purpose? Ask The Family.
Added to the humiliation of being booed by his “fellow Americans”, Bush the “Uniter” and Cheney had to look out over the literal sea of Americans who weren’t pre-selected for a photo op, who paid their own way to Washington, who stood in line in the freezing cold for hours-all to honor a man who reached the pinnacle of accomplishment through merit and hard work, not legacy or entitled birth. Take that to your graves!
I’m wondering why chimp flew all the way to friggin’ Midland (hundreds of miles away) to come “home” to Crawford. Was he thinking that even Waco crowds might be hostile?
I prefer to think of the wheelchair as the wheelbarrow carting his ass out of DC. But of course, he’s staying to run his shadow government.
Link below is to the full
speechload of BS Bush gave in Midland. He heaped praise upon himself. He looks in the mirror again…. convincing himself?? He thanked his good friend Dick Cheney; and Fredo Gonzalez ‘who came down with me today’… Warning: barf bag needed.Bush’s Midland BS
I wonder how long it will take some Repuke to contest the oath with SCOTUS…that would require popcorn.
Blofeld/Cheney was dressep up like the Nazi who melted at the end of Raiders of the Lost Arc.

I prefer to think of the wheelchair as the wheelbarrow carting his ass out of DC “To the garbage Heap of History”. But of course, he’s staying to run his shadow government.
Slight edit for clarity /s
Olive branch for Holy Joe and John McInsane.
Crashcart!
One of the most tedious things Tweety kept saying yesterday was how all he saw was faces full of teeth!! Geez Chris could ya get any more racist? How about some lines about fried chicken and watermelon.
Dickhead, complete dickhead.
blockquote>10:46am: Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., gets a healthy dose of boos from the crowd as he comes onto the stage. He won’t be the last.
That at least is good news.
When you consider how many boxes of evidentiary material Cheney would have had to haul over to the shredders, it’s entirely plausible that he might have strained his back in the process…
Well these guys are sticklers for adherence to the constitution you know.
Bush was kept in a bubble to the descent that happened where every he went or at events. The protesters were put outside the route, people self imprisoned themselves by going into the “Free Speech Zones”. I suspect that he never watched on TV any of the huge protests around the country or the world. I remember the national candlelight protests honoring the 2000 deaths in the Iraq war.
When Bush came here during Katrina to celebrate McCain’s birthday several of our peace groups including the raging grannies were confronted with black SUV’s with machine guns were pointed at the grannies….. just for holding up signs on street corners…
It is quite beyond me how MSNBC can remain completely oblivious to the aversion that people have for Tweety, the Dickhead. He’s just god awful. How do Olbermann and Maddow keep straight faces? They’re better actors than I could ever be…
Bush’s job now is to go home and keep his fuckin mouth shut. For some reason, I find it hard to believe that he’s capable of that.
You know it crossed his mind.
Maybe he was with a hooker…His wife sure had a “look” on her face yesterday…It happened to VP Rockefeller…
Sarah Palin is his model of behavior….. I want them both to crawl back into their caves and STFU….
I just heard he wants to write a book! Heh.
Good point. Do you suppose it’s an extra $100 to get help with the document shredding? Pretty kinky, if you ask me…
“Boy Scout” is perfect for Bush. That’s where his mind stopped functioning, around age 12.
“My Pet Bush” and other brush removal tekneeks.
Fantastic point – so true.
Bush’s constituency was never the American people. He came into office spouting credos about compassionate conservatism, local control, and the old standard trickle down economics, but this time with a touch of populism (i.e you know how to spend your money better than the government does). His real constituents were:
1) the energy firms who wanted greater access to federal lands at giveaway leases.
2) the chamber of commerce types who wanted less regulation so they could be free to “innovate” in ways that appeared to benefit the market, but instead were meant to enrich those in control of the markets.
3) the top 5% of the wealthy who wanted stop paying the taxes on the remaining income that they couldn’t hide in all the off-shore tax havens.
4) Energy producers who believed it was their right to make money without concern for the environment or health of the citizens. Think new source review, the Utah mines, TVA ash ponds, methane extraction in the inner-mountain West.
5) Oil firms that wanted to control access to Iraq’s oil.
This list can be added to with many other constituents, but at no time can the regular old American citizen be included.
One of the most consequential mistakes that the American public, and the Democratic leadership in particular, made was the failure to recognize that public shame never mattered to the well-disciplined Bush Administration officials. The Bush Administration recognized that public shaming in the form of tongue-wagging and sternly worded letters (such as those that Senator Leahy and Representatives Waxman and Conyers were so fond of writing and so proud to wave in front of the TV cameras) was backed up with no true repercussions (i.e. inherent contempt). Their supposedly sweating performances under the intense glare of the Congressional lights only lasted a short while and then the officials skipped gleefully back to the White House with the full knowledge that the redness on their hands from the slap of Congress would quickly fade, leaving their hands fully operational once again.
It is to these constituents that Bush comes home to with his head held high. Within this circle of friends and benefactors, Bush accomplished all that he wanted.
I thought Cheney ordered his winged monkeys to do that sort of thing.
That’s funny.
Well ALL ex presidents write books (or have someone write a book for them) but so far Clusterfuck has no BUYERS for his memoirs. Most would expect the same lame apologetics which few would pay good money for.
You would think that even for someone as impervious to bad news as Bush, it might occur to him that if you have to go around telling everyone what a great job you did, it means you did a crappy job.
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Blue Texan and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
I find it interesting and maybe quite telling that most of the remainin’ elected fascists and their talkin’ head megaphones are fallin’ all over themselves to celebrate the “first black President” as a way of circumscribing and isolating ‘im and not having ta acknowledge his superiority in any way. The condescension and patronising tone stimulate my gag reflex and I am really worried about the Senate with a rkypto-fascist like Reid in leadership with fuckin’ Joe Likuderman in a committee chair.
Remember…
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, NOT ALL FASCISTS CALL THEMSELVES REPUBLICANS!!
Huffpo has article about demonstraters throwing shoes on w/h lawn on Bush’s last day. They had a huge blow-up doll of Bush with Pinnochio nose and dressed in his ‘mission accomplished’ flight suit. Tourists joined in the shoe throwing and cars honked as they passed. Wish I’d been there.
Shoe Bombardment W/H
The article has 2276 DIGGS.
But I heard Cheney never took off his hat the whole time. (That’s what Ms. Redshift said; I was on the Mall so I couldn’t see myself.) It stuck out like when he wore a ski parka to the Auschwitz commemoration.
Judging from the look on his face, he seemed to get it. First time in years that Bush has had to listen to anyone who criticized him. Sweet.
LS, a word with you, if I might?
I would like to apologize to you for my part in the misunderstanding of last evening.
I mistook your seriousness for snark (as we can’t see each other, certain subtle nuances are lost) while I was, mostly, completely unserious.
I was judging Rahm’s gesture on the basis of what I would do, which is, of course, not necessarily the best of practices,
(I prefer the subtle gesture of the slightly raised eyebrow or minor tilt of the head when communicating across a crowd but understand that for some, a more definite gesture is preferred).
Your question about context was appropriate, and I choose to think that he was mugging for Obama’s children like a favorite uncle might do.
Again, because I appreciate your perspectives and enjoy your company, I should like to have no ill will between us.
Peace?
DW
Ding dong the munchkin song. :)
See Republican Obstructionism at it finest today! Tune in C-span 3 for this amazing spectacle. I expect Chairman Obey to snap soon, he won’t be able to take their smartassed crap much longer before he tells them all to go straight to hell. Unfortunately, I suspect few, if any, of the GOP’s lamentable imitations of legislators will accept his offer.
I thought it would be interesting to determine Holy Joe’s whereabouts yesterday. So far its not a pretty picture.

Having trouble with links.
I suppose it’s possible but having been a Boy Scout myself, I find it rather difficult to believe that George W. Bush was ever in the Boy Scouts or went very far with it if he was.
He damn sure missed most of the lessons that are supposed to be taught.
Exactly!!! The inauguration was the big chance to give “president” bush a piece of our minds. we had been shut out of our own govt for eight years!
again, the relief I feel is tremendous.
I’ve been watching and commenting downstairs. the congresswoman from Michigan sure read them the riot act.
“I’m coming home with my head held high and a sense of accomplishment,”
Depends on Bush’s objectives.
I’ll join you there.
I’m reminded of that Twilight Zone episode where the aliens kept saying that they came to serve mankind and even had a book entitled “How To Serve Mankind”.
Turned out to be a Cookbook.
Bush served America on a Barbeque Spit to corporations and the banking industry.
Maybe intentional…since the Constitution states that the oath must be sworn as precisely given in the Constitution. The right-wing blogs are now rampant stating that Obama is not really President because of Roberts’ error. But what you want to bet that there was a hurried second “swearing” back in the hall, before witnesses and videotaped, correcting the errors of Roberts. [Apparently something like this happened before in history]. In addition, doesn’t the real act involve SIGNING a document with the oath…not the verbalization of it?
The oath of office is signed, the ceremony is precisely that, ceremonial. It was part of the paperwork that President Obama [dear lordy lordy lord, I love writing that so much I’m going to write it again] President Obama signed immediately following the ceremony.
So long Worst President Ever.
Lets just call him the WPE from now on.
Bush really deson’t think any of the criticisms levelled by Obama were his fault. I’m sure Bush didn’t think Obama was talking about him.
Let me tell you…Rick Perry is the only man in Texas dumber than W. He’s all hair and no cattle.
Heh! My sisters (Both older than me) would have a party while the parents would go away for the weekend. Knowing that the parents would be back say, 1:00 in the afternoon (Being former Navy, my Dad was and is very punctual), the sisters would have a truly wild time, then make sure that all the guests left by 9:00am or so, everybody left would clean.
Mom never noticed that the house was usually cleaner when she came back than it was wen she left. Hee, hee!
