But this, to me, is the heart of the speech.
The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works — whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.
From Reagan’s first inaugural:
Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem.
It’s truly the end of an era.

WOOT!!!
CSPAN 2 is rerunning the swearing in …
I caught that too. It was an open rebuke of Reagan. The parallel could not have been more pronounced.
Obama bitch slapped the Bush administration and republicans in general in that speech.
This ia a most auspicious beginning.
;~D
Deeply satisfying.
They so richly deserved every stinging rebuke, too.
I wish he said “living” wage instead of decent…… big difference
Has anyone seen Pat Buchanan today ?
Thanks for opening the digg.
Thanks BT.
I like to think decent = living but that’s just me
As I watch the luncheon, and Michelle Obama embracing the grinning Gores, I couldn’t help but think, “God’s in his heaven, alls right with the world.”
DiFi is sure in a better mood than a week ago…!
Hell Yeah!
I hope the spirit of Lincoln is vindicated after bu$h tried to claim that legacy as his own for while.
I like decent better … contrasts with the indecent wage that Bush’s cronies want for the working class.
She is thinking about throwing her hat in the gov race here…ick
It’s only decent if you can actually live on it.
Ooh lunch prayer says something about avoiding “moral arrogance”. woot.
yeah how is it she’s so front and center?
why HER?
what happened to her sanction when that was going on?
i wish she weren’t even THERE.
she’s SO much richer with Bu$h to thank!
I thought she moved off that. is that still in the works?
What a day!!
I may be late on my info. Let’s hope she has moved on. She would lose if she ran. I don’t know any dems that like her, they just tolerate her
Let the word go forth….Sharing in the hopes. Let us hope and help things to work.
Question:
So who is going to be sending the wingnut radio talk show hate mongers their talking points?
Elmore was stuck on an airport shuttle bus with one of those stations and they were kind of speechless because they didn’t have anything negative to say…..
Wonderful day – and wonderful speech that made it clear we reject Bushism …
that felt good!
on the rebuke thing….. How sad it was for a new president to ever actually have to say that we’re going to restore science to it’s rightful place. that should never have to be said. hopefully never will again.
yes.
it’s unusually warm here in SW Colorado today, and sunny and bright and beautiful. Mr. siri washed windows yesterday so that we could see this spanking new day in the bright and clean energy where we live, now, suddenly.
There’s snow on the mesas. And our yard birds are all fat.
The dogs are excited. It’s as though they all KNOW.
grinnnn
Come to think of it, no. I’ve been switching between MSNBC and c-span and haven’t seen him.
Give them time. I’m sure it will start up before the day is through
Well, that’s true. The speech, when viewed in 20 years, will speak to the radicalism of the Bush administration.
Nice Starbucks ad btw – free coffee if you pledge 5 hours to your community …
thank you BT. It’s about time!
In order for a wage to be decent it has to support the wage earner, and, of course, this is a man who uses words precisely. The opposite of a decent wage is, well, indecent…
Good Morning Blue Texan -
you captured the heart perfectly, but this dfh was huzzahing her ass off to this –
“Decent” is a good frame IMHO.
Nope, and not Babe either.
Wonder what Rush is shrieking about today? Or cynical, snarky Ingraham and Hannity….not going to try to find out, however.
No, mercifully. He may show up on Rachel later because she seems to like him for some inexplicable reason. As far as I’m concerned, if I never see him again it will be too soon…
Government should not be finding anyone a decent wage…that’s up to INDIVIDUALs…you and me…
Very cool. Hope it gets people to volunteer (even though Starbucks coffee is just plain awful)
I had to miss the ceremonies so I was wondering if someone could answer a burning question. When George Bush was introduced, what did the crowd do?
hey cbl2!
and YES WE DO reject that notion!
That was my favorite line in the speech too.
thanks.
I know what you mean about the Colorado sunshine. Lived in Crested Butte and Gunnison and miss the Western lifestyle.
bwaahaaahaaaa ! that would explain why Britt Hume was commenting on ladies hairstyles … suck it b*s !!!!
What a wonderful 55th birthday present. I could not have asked for a nicer gift. The only other birthday present that comes close is the return of the Iran hostages. Prior to today, that was my best present.
Our long national nightmare is over. I couldn’t be happier.
of course msm blocked it out, but people there blogged that the crowd booo’d, and when the copter took off everyone was singing sha na na na hey hey hey GOOD BYE.
wish the powers woulda let that be heard.
Yes.
me too. and he didn’t take a preapred pause for applause but was interrupted by applause! damn straight! da people speak!!!!!!
It’s her sadistic side … like a Cat playing with a mouse …
Actually, maybe even better than “living.” If you have a “living wage” in a job that requires you to work overtime that takes away from your quality of life and your family, well, that’s not decent…
wow
2 of the MOST beautiful places in the whole state!
you got the best of the best!
Only one thing missing from this Inaugural, to my way of thinking: a nice statement by our new President at the very end, “Gentlemen, take Messrs. Bush and Cheney into custody, please.
But I’m very very happy, as I thought this day, the last of Bushism, would never actually come.
happy b’day.
I wish Gilly was here to see this day.
Oh, thank heaven! I thought I was the only heretic!
When Bush41 and Babs were intro’d, the crowd booed, so the MSM muted all future ‘casts unless they were cheers.
There were a group singing, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey Goodbye …
I’m just so thrilled
”The dogs are excited. It’s as though they all KNOW.
grinnnn”
~~Siri
Oh wow–doggie was also very excited while I watched the swearing in…wanting to play and running around. I had to keep telling her ”not now, not now”! :)
Prolly already on YouTube. MSM definitely suckin’ hind tit now.
They always “agree to disagree,” but if she’s the cat she’s using what we call “velvet paws” with him!
LOL. No, your not a heretic. The stuff is biter because they have burned the hell out of the beans (deep roasted my ass)
Yep, “living wage” can be disputed … see how the Goopers defined ‘life’, vis a vis Schiavo …
This part of the speech really soared.
I heard the singing very loud on MSNBC when the chopper took off…sweet.
that would be ‘bitter’ lol
{{{{{ Teddy Bear }}}}}
Yep … seemed like an eternity in coming …
Not hardly. World class swill at best. Makes me cringe just to think of Starfucks coffee.
Happy Birthday SueTRWA!
yeah, i’m seein that.
wonderin if darth gets to keep his perpetual meat wagon escort everywhere he goes now?
give it UP msm.
no one cares about those asshats and no one has to anymore!
IT’S OVER
LET IT DIE.
So it’s not just here. Victoria the Siamese, the Empress Of All The Known Galaxies, did something she has NEVER done before. She’s curled up in front of the TV, happily snoozing. She picked her head up during the swearing in… I’m not making this up, you know…
Having Pat on brings more Wingnuts to the show … eventually, they’ll be edumacated away from their views.
I think America has finally entered the 21st century.
I’m stuck in a geek training class. They have a TV running in the break room. On FOX.
Sigh.
oh i don’t doubt you one bit.
mine were all interrupting their morning naps. we have 3 dogs.
they KNEW. if nothing else, they picked it up in my energy
and i been cryin all morning.
lol
amen, amen, amen
Hi, Balrog! The TVs at the hospital are all tuned to Faux Noise too, so I took the day off. I’m sure you’ll be able to catch the high points on reruns or on line when you’re sprung from geekitude…
The best presents are those shared with others, Sue.
Happy, happy, launch date, may your journey ’round old Sol bring with it peace and prosperity of spirit for all …
LOLOLOL!
and LOL
Victoria the Siamese, the Empress Of All The Known Galaxies
Chaco is the alpha here. one exceedingly royal and regal Shih Tzu, smaller than all the others, cat sized, Purveyor of All That Is Known and Head Snoopier of All That Breaths, the inventor of katsoup, He Who Must Be Acknowledged and Worshiped.
hehe
Cspan wouldn’t have muted it. Did anyone watch it on that?
Anybody know what time the parade starts?
ive hated that stuff since forever.
took one sip one time and that was the LIVING END of THAT!@
Talk to us right after your job is outsourced to someone makeing $1.00/day.
Why is it that hospitals and doctors’ waiting rooms all seem to run Fox? I don’t get it. And makes me crazy when I have to wait in one. Soaps are preferable to Fox.
LOL! It’s amazing how much an 8 pound cat can boss around
2 adult humansher staff!W lifts off…gone. Sorry he’s coming to TX…legacy will “improve”, but never his character.
Wheels up.
They’re gone.
Now the rest of us rollup our sleeves and start fixin’ what’s been broken.
I think at 3 est?
Yep. On C-Span the boos and singing came through quite nicely, thank you!
inventor of katsoup
um, “katsoup?” Dare I ask?
(as one who is owned by cats)
I watched CSpan but didn’t hear it.
i recorded it on MSNBC for Mr. siri, we’ll be listening there later when he gets home from school.
:)
Amen, sister! Got your note about the bug sweep downstairs; thanks…..big sense of relief.
as i was listening it was clear to me he was reframing the current battles ~ that’s got to shift the ground for everyone ~ regarding government, liberty, fairness, and unity. amazing. i don’t see how he would have given THAT speech if he didn’t intend to do the great things we are hoping for.
bush’s plane leaves washington. what a fucking relief. this calls for more champagne.
My dog had puppies. Three Blacks & one white.
Now, as to their names….
Thanks everyone. Hopefully there will be replays of everything.
I heard it on MSNBC…even as he was being introduced and escorted out of the Capitol. And he was the 2 of Diamonds card…bet that was referring to the “deck of terrah” from Operation Iraqi Freedom days…
He deserved every nanosecond of derision.
FunnyD
simply mahvelous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keith tosses to Al Roker – he’s grinning pretty wide.
omg yes.
Chaco is the Head Of Household here.
seems the smaller they are………..
lol
Kudo’s to Ms. Victoria.
We here in this house are only here to serve.
Start CUTTING taxes so business can flourish and not need to oursource and it won’t be outsourced. States with enviro rules like CA and FL have killed the golden goose…if the Bamster gets his tax increases he’ll kill the whole country’s ability and then everything will outsource to China…
Jeebus, it took all my patience to just watch NBC … you must have nerves of Steel to be exposed to FixNoise without suffering Brain Meltdown …
Did anyone hear the discussion at Fox about Justice Roberts fouling up the oath and what repercussions that might have?
It will be interesting to see if that changes. I know that my boss (a surgeon) has changed from being a fairly conservative Republican to being a centrist Democrat. (I’ll admit I’ve been working on him for years…) I’ll keep my eyes peeled when I’m in public areas of the hospital, like the cafeteria and major waiting rooms, to see what’s on the tube.
i was watching msnbc and i heard the crowd booing bushco and singing as he left
Oh, and it was great to share the moments here at FDL with all of you pups, my “friends in the computer.” We’ve all worked so hard for this, we should be very proud. Hope we can all take a deep breath and stiff drink and enjoy it a bit before we go back to holding feet to the fire.
XXOO
FunnyDiva
President Obama: “We are ready to lead once more…”
That line probably went over Dubya’s booze-addled head, but Laura’s brain was ready to explode.
1. Roland Burris
2. Rawlinds Burris Jr.
3. Rolanda Burris
4. Sarah PawLin
GOOD! I therefore have it recorded!
GOOD!
And as to the derision, there could not have POSSIBLY been enough. There wasn’t time!
yay puppies
I do too, PW.
when the r’s talk about responsibility they mean the responsibility of the non-elites. mark my words we will see that when Obama talks about responsibility he means EVERYONE: rich and poor. i see him setting the stage to ask for sacrifice from those who have the most. sacrifice: not just for the masses.
Wow! Did you help influence the change in the surgeon?
How nice to hear a president who wants to speak to and listen to the american people v. just telling us to be skeered and STFU.
ROGER THAT!
I can barely remember the days when i did all this stuff by myself, totally alone.
I am soooooo thankful for this online community.
I really honor and cherish this place and these relationships, even tho they are “in the computer”.
hehe
Fear not… I took today off so I’m lolling at home with a beverage of choice celebrating. I’m only exposed to Faux Noise when I wander into the public areas of the hospital while at work. Watch that stuff? Not without 2 wet suits and… Well, not THAT addition… /snark
My bad, Marian – I missed the part in parentheses (gotta read FDL fast, y’know, so as not to fall behind)
hey ya’ll! anybody catch Obama signing his first piece document as Pres, the reconciliation thing?? Here’s what he said as he signed the thing somewhat awkwardly as he did so with his left hand (who knew?):
“I’m a lefty, get used to it!”
Now them’s words i been waitin to here.
a good day.
Yeah! Blerrrrrrrrrgh! They’ll snatch at anything.
It won’t matter as according to the Constitution, the pres elect becomes the prez at 12 noon whether he has taken the oath or not
It’s all completely academic in any event. It’s interesting, however, that the Chief Justice of The United States of America can’t handle administering a 35 word oath without fucking it up.
LOL. roker pwns tweety with the tingle down the leg thing.
Big pause. Tweety: “Hey roker! it’s up the leg, big fricking difference!”
Started a bit slow, but it got much better in the middle.
Granted I do have to look at the text. It seemed to me quite often in the begining he talked about the one hand (Democrat) but then at the end of the paragraph said on the other hand (Republican).
He also seemed to use coded language that we are moving on (so lets forget about what got us into here – how we can do that and clean up the mess I am not sure so I could be quite wrong).
Gonna go read the entire speech now.
wow
what dark DARK days these last 8 years have been!!!
now maybe we can go ahead and HAVE a 21st century……..
i do believe i am actually even just breathing differently.
just wow.
Another troll with his head up his ass. Crawls out from under his rock every once in a while and makes some inane troll comment.
before Bidn got sworn in, did he say to Justice Stevens “Hi, can I call you JP?” Or was I hearing things?
their live stream wasn’t streaming when i went there.
Didja see Obama at the luncheon with congress go over to Roberts and tell him “no sweat about fucking the oath up?
The guy is so damn forgiving.
Oh, you bet! We discuss politics on a very regular basis. He’s a lovely, kind soul and the last 8 years have disabused him of any idea that the Republicans give any sort of a crap about the country. He started a free clinic here in 1995, so his heart was in the right place all along. He just needed a bit of a nudge!
FauxNoose will take some time to realize their opinion means nothing to the majority of Murkans …
Pat was kept at a secret undisclosed location in case he had to interview Gates.
It is going to take a lot of deprogramming to get the Reagan creed out of the heads of our elite and back in the toilet where it belongs. Speaking from the perspective of the economics profession, it is simply amazing how prevalent his view of things among economists who got their Ph.D’s after 1980. Greg Mankiw is a good example. Middle class kid who always did well in school — a bon eleve, as they say disdainfully in France. Krugman nailed his careerism perfectly on his blog the other day. I see it all the time among colleagues who are well-meaning, but terribly ill-informed, surprisingly enough, about economics. They learned the math, but not the deep stuff.
As I keep telling my students, a little economics can take you a long way, usually in the wrong direction. Don’t do this at home without your parents present.
Job search is up to us.
Job creation is definitely affected by govt policy. The economy which affects jobs is affected govt policy.
Thank you. Thank you very much.
Yeah, there are all sorts of “mental reservations” speculations possible to explain that….
If you watch Obama taking the oath you can see he knows Roberts has screwed it up.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxSDcLqCZ3c
Of course, it doesn’t mean a damn thing, but the wingnuts can add this to their birth certificate rants.
LOL
It may be just me, but the way that I understood the meaning of the “Decent Wage” was a wage that was somewhat BETTER than a “Living Wage” – something that you could get more than just the bare necessities of living from, a way to learn, grow, or “pursue happiness” in life, not just scrabble to stay alive.
I could be wrong. I often am.
Agree completely, and made the same comment to Mrs Knut. The shrub looked like he was trying to contain a grimace. He looked happy to be leaving when it was all over, as were the rest of us (that he was leaving)
Not just americans but the Constitution
Careerism is in full bloom in the journalism circles as well. More networking than achievement as far as I can tell.
In Roberts defense, this is the closest he’s been to a young black man in a while … /s
No its not, its up the the Min wage law.
yeah, that was surprising
I couldn’t help wondering if his poor brain wasn’t oxygen starved, since there’s no way he wasn’t at least figuratively holding his nose…
FunnyD
LOL, that’s exactly what I was thinking.
LOL
Yes, that is the one who threatens Civil War if Bu$hCO is held accountable.
Pathetic little pipsqueak, not a clue in the world.
I think this ‘reaction’, of threatening violence needs to be noted, and slapped down, pronto!
OMG! Who mentioned Buchanan and summoned him up from the nether regions?
I missed that. A lovely gesture that Roberts would never have gotten from W. When he was first introduced he (Roberts) looked completely awed, and he might just have forgotten the words, and didn’t want to look like a fool by getting out a “cheat sheet.”
Oh, crap. Here’s Pat Robertson, up from his nap…
Oh Pat Robertson has surfaced…
CSpan caller capping on Cheif Justice Roberts… how can the CJ of SCOTUS not rember the words to the oath of office.
Yes, simple mistake – but I thought he was supposed to be a big genius.
Channelling Herbert Hoover again? Nice ouija board you’ve got there.
Um … what is this Constitution you speak of ? No one at Fix has apparently heard of it …
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: prag-ma-tist.
One new thing we might be seeing is a rapidly changing set of policies. Obama will, I expect, swiftly discontinue or change policies which are not having the effect he intends. The corporate propaganda media will want to label this ’flip-flopping,’ as if remaining resolute in error is a sign of character (see also Iraq, Occupation of).
Don’t like an Obama policy? Make some noise! Call your representatives! I bet he’s going to be flexible on details, but focused on outcomes.
Little fuck couldn’t hit his ass with both hands.
Damn, thought I smelled something foul. Thought it was Coulter.
And… a poem only a sane person could discover, and deliver:
Inaugural Poem
Praise song for the day.
Each day we go about our business, walking past each other, catching each others’ eyes or not, about to speak or speaking. All about us is noise. All about us is noise and bramble, thorn and din, each one of our ancestors on our tongues. Someone is stitching up a hem, darning a hole in a uniform, patching a tire, repairing the things in need of repair.
Someone is trying to make music somewhere with a pair of wooden spoons on an oil drum with cello, boom box, harmonica, voice.
A woman and her son wait for the bus.
A farmer considers the changing sky; A teacher says, “Take out your pencils. Begin.”
We encounter each other in words, words spiny or smooth, whispered or declaimed; words to consider, reconsider.
We cross dirt roads and highways that mark the will of someone and then others who said, “I need to see what’s on the other side; I know there’s something better down the road.”
We need to find a place where we are safe; We walk into that which we cannot yet see.
Say it plain, that many have died for this day. Sing the names of the dead who brought us here, who laid the train tracks, raised the bridges, picked the cotton and the lettuce, built brick by brick the glittering edifices they would then keep clean and work inside of.
Praise song for struggle; praise song for the day. Praise song for every hand-lettered sign; The figuring it out at kitchen tables.
Some live by “Love thy neighbor as thy self.”
Others by first do no harm, or take no more than you need.
What if the mightiest word is love, love beyond marital, filial, national. Love that casts a widening pool of light. Love with no need to preempt grievance.
In today’s sharp sparkle, this winter air, anything can be made, any sentence begun.
On the brink, on the brim, on the cusp — praise song for walking forward in that light.
–Elizabeth Alexander
I noticed that Roberts asked “are you ready to take the oath?”
President Obama should have asked Roberts if he was ready to give it.
Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution, Section One:
That would be me … *g* … I look forward to him cringing every time he hears President Obama
You’re right! And if that’s the best they can come up with (as it appears to be) here’s to the 2010 and 2012 elections!
Ha!
Roberts would have said, of course, then gone ahead and fucked it up.
Crested Butte to Lake City, through Creede and Del Notre, back to Gunnison through Saguache is one of the best motorcycle rides on the planet. Beauty beyond expression!
Some people will think he did it on purpose, so the transfer of power was not legally executed. I don’t think so, but if Obama hadn’t caught Roberts’ mistake, there are no number of freepers out there ready to claim that not only did the Pres fake his birth certificate, but he really isn’t president.
Thank you all for the birthday wishes. My husband and I are going out this evening. We have a business and with the economy as it is, we have done none of that for months.
I think about Obama’s call to service. My role as chair of my local library board is the most important thing I can do for my community. Seventy-one days and a big change occurs that will bring patron-oriented library services back to my community. It is hard to be patient for I want it now. After two years of trying, the change begins shortly. This year is going to be a great one.
Maybe Roberts will get the oath ‘correct’ for Obama’s next inaugural?
Must be reality ‘readjustment’ bejitters?
I agree. It’s one of the reasons I moved to him before the primary–it became obvious that he LISTENS and THINKS, and is able to change his mind if necessary.
I liked this poem (even if it didn’t rhyme, ahem). It flows from noise (!) to words to names to love.
just beautiful.
I know..where is my Cachaca bottle. It eases the pain. I need the parade to start so I can switch back to CSPAN
Roberts screwed up the oath and Obama waited on Roberts to correct himself. It was beautiful, to have the cool look Obama gave Roberts recorded for posterity, while a million spectators watched. No better moment could possibly have occurred with which to signify the total fuckup that the past eight years of Neocon Rovian Republican asswipe has been. “Not with a bang but a whimper …..”
A bunch of Americans, Brits, Aussies and Kiwis, some Germans and one wonderful African woman watched the whole thing on widescreen at the Shamrock Bar in downtown Dresden.
YEAH
it was petro.
lol
ol’ conjurer he is.
Thank you for serving your community. I think it is so awesome
I just can’t get over Obama’s
“I’m a lefty, get used to it!” today
gonna put that in my journal.
Happy Birthday. And a wish for many more. So many threads goin’ at once I got lost earlier.
yes it is. i did family vacations at San Cristobal Lake throughout my childhood.
UNBELIEVABLE eye candy.
i can only imagine it on a bike, not being a biker person, but there’s just no place like that area!
i’m glad for you that you got to see that.
Hand Of God stuff there.
Obama presented a well crafted speech very well. The speech was progressive
A very good start to his administration. I hope his government will use it as the policy guideline.
“Our security begins with justness of our cause”.
The rule of law
Transparency
Economy
Equality
Common Humanity
An era of peace
Outside our borders…we will work beside you if you relax your fist
Lowery…community of nations
A high bar!
Fahrender !
Lift a Schott of Schnapps for me too …
Hey, Fahrender!
Good to see ya! Hope y’all were partying down, there in the pub.
FunnyD
Pat Buchanan thinks it was an excellent speech.
I can rest now.
I sure hope hospitals don’t have tv on in surgery rooms. A Fox feed during surgery could have serious repercussions for many patient’s recovery time.
Lindsay Graham wants to be stimulated by BO …
How symbolic! An international group in an Irish bar in Germany! [raises her glass]
I’m glad that you will be celebrating, we all deserve to enjoy the moment of possibility.
My absolute best to you and yours, Sue.
I shall think of you this evening, and raise a glass in salute to you and to our collective present to ourselves. To the future!
;~D
Nope. Surgeons can, however, load up their favored music. I’d rather be cut open to Bach, say, than Nine Inch Nails!
EEEEWWWWW…. That’s a mental image I did NOT need!
That’s just wrong!
*g*
Even better – maybe Roberts will feel compelled to return to private practice and we will have a new (and improved!) Chief justice.
Lindsey wants to be stimulated by that hunk of an intern.
If any of these guys think they will push Obama around, they obviously weren’t paying attention to both campaigns.
Lindsay then stated he’s waiting for Congress to stimulate him …
Hi, fahrende! Long time no see.
I love that – not ust the audience, but the SHAMROCK bar in downtown DRESDEN! Sounds like a cool place to be today.
Oh, a Congressional circle jerk. Cool.
You know, tejanarusa, I like THAT possibility very much.
Afterall, This particular Mr. Roberts could make a heck of a lot more moola in the PRIVATE sector …
That must appeal.
Thank you. I’d be happy tonight regardless, just knowing for the first time in eight years we have an adult in charge, but it makes the evening even better. I just loved Obama’s speech reminding us of how our fore bearers over came past adversities with our heads held high. We can too.
Re-read the speech – saw much more in the reading (after hearing it).
You did ID one of the best lines that I really enjoyed as well (his signal that he did not want to “kill government” like some other presidents had said… low standard there though, lucky there were better items as well. Obama does not seem to suffer from lowbar-itis like Bush and some others).
LOL! Many years ago, before hospitals kicked people out quite so fast, or moved small things like biopsies to outpatient – I was stuck in a double hospital room w/ a woman who insisted on keeping the tv on Pat Robertson’s 700 club channel. Aaaaugh.
I called up my doctor and told him I was going home. Could.not.take.another.minute.
Tweety (Matthews) cant seem to help himself from stepping on everyones toes including his own.
Relly bad host for an event like this.
Lucky people just keep talking and trying to make at least one point before he cuts them off and goes off on some other tangent.
Have any arrest warrants been issued yet?
We shall overcome.
Tweety (Matthews) cant seem to help himself from stepping on everyones toes including his own
But Rachel, now – talking about the speech. She and Gene Robinson are the most cogent thinkers. Somebody should turn off =Mathews’s mike.
Just heard Ted Koeppell commenting on NPR on Obama’s speech and what confronts him. 2 words for Koeppell “GAS BAG!”
Marion@183:
I suppose it’s too much to hope that if 43 or Cheney are ever under anesthesia in the future that Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Amy Goodman or any liberal talk radio segments segments are played in surgery.
you sure it’s just his own toes he’s steppin’ on?
FunnyD
Ted Koeppell implied that Obama may well have to give up his “high fallutin” rhetoric concerning how America is unwilling to give up it’s principles and values yada yada, once Obama finally knows all the facts that Bush/Cheney based their decisions on. It was a tacit wink and a nod for the crimes of the former executive branch.
tejanarusa@195:
Pat Robertson, omg. Even a body cast couldn’t stop me from getting the heck away from that.
Ted Koppel is an old friend of Henry Kissinger, and had him on as guest on Nightline more than any other person. Kissinger’s travels are currently limited because a number of countries would like to prosecute him as a war criminal.
So I’m not surprised that Koppel doesn’t want Obama to hold anyone accountable.
You’ll like this. They had CNN running in a conference room here at work. One of the bigwigs came in with his lunch partway through and announced, “Watching it on FOX–BIG MISTAKE.” and then had a seat.
And he was right – Exhibit A: the Bush Administration.
Note: now 1:50 p.m. CST, NBC just announced that Sen. Robert Byrd has experienced ’some kind of medical emergency’. No further info.
Does he go by Teddy? President Obama mentioned Teddy. I was thinking Ted Kennedy.
Correction just came over NBC, it was not Sen. Byrd, but Sen. Edward Kennedy that suffered some medical emergency.
unless the crimes of the previous Whitehouse are dealt with this, “in its stark rejection of the notions that the free market cures all and that the rule of law must be subjugated to security.” is nothing more than a pile of Obullcrap.
Wrong.
Bad Management is the problem. Always.
I thought Diane Feinstein’s toast to Barack Obama was fantastic! Sometimes that woman can exude class. And other days? Don’t even get me started.
