Sarah Palin is NOT going to be thrilled with this.
The woman who edged out the former veep candidate for the title of Miss Alaska 1984 is slotted to perform at not one, but two inaugural balls in Washington, D.C.
Maryline Blackburn, who eventually traded in her tiara for a career as a professional singer, plans to celebrate Barack Obama’s ascension to the presidency with gigs at swanky bashes hosted by star musicians Ludacris and Dionne Warwick.
Meanwhile Palin is back in Alaska battling a state deficit.
Oh, dear, that pesky deficit she ran up finally caught her in a leg-hold trap. Guess she forgot all about it while she was charging those fancy panties for her husband at Victoria’s Secret and calling other people trash.
Well, since she was openly uninvited from the festivities, maybe Palin can content herself by purchasing one of these plates as a cherished memento of the truly historic event? She can charge the cost to Alaska.

There is more than enough blame to pass around, and the Alaska media sees Palin as somebody that can help keep them afloat if they can keep on enshrining her to pumping up page views at their electronic niches.
When it comes to exposing wrongs done to Alaska Natives, our press is no better than the lower-48 press has been at exposing the Native Trust Fund fiasco, for instance.

I’m hoping that her sell by date has passed and nobody is willing to give much for those photos. As to the wedding, that may “delayed” a tad, given her relations with Levi’s family (not to mention Mama Johnson’s little legal issues).

It just amazes me that someone with this messed up of a family is being seriously considered by some as a presidential or gubernatorial candidate.
Here is my unsympathetic take.
Sarah Palin is an animal hater…she kills moose for sport…allows wolves to be murdered from helicopters..and refuses to protect the polar bears. This woman thinks that she is better than other mothers…wolve mothers, bear mothers, and moose mothers (who she gleefully hunts and eats)….
Listen Sarah Palin…you represent nothing but killers of families (yes, Sarah, other animals as opposed to you have families too) that you don’t even comprehend, and you represent a culture of sport that is quite simply sick. You have zero need to kill these beings at all…none at all. You are a person that can afford “groceries” from a store…No…You have to present yourself in front of the murder of a turkey…struggling to live..and shuttering in its horrible death. You laughed in front of the cameras…laughed!!! You celebrated it’s death and end of its existence on this earth!!! All vaseline smile.

At this point it is pretty much out of their hands. Case has gone to the judge (not Lambert any more, unfortunately) for the penalty phase. His decision alone, though there is a good chance for an appeal. I am less than impressed with the current presiding judge.

as far as I know, only the court of public opinion has jurisdiction over that issue…and she could flip them off and do it anyway.
It was a state investigation, using officers from the Palmer PD and alaska State Troopers. They often use local-state combinations for undercover, like all small population states, to reduce chances of officer recognition by people being investigated.

Jeb had lots of popularity in FL though that may not be the case now. The wealthy were his base. For those who don’t live here you wouldn’t believe the number of For Sale signs or For Rent signs – on beautiful houses.
The seasonal people are fewer this year. Sarasota had a “Madoff” type scandal last week: $350M can’t be accounted for. The fund manager is missing. In short, there are fewer wealthy people here now.
All that aside Jeb is an unlikely in the other 49. The 2012 cycle will be uphill for Jeb and by then GWB’s legacy (misdeeds) may be exposed.
Palin can get through the primaries, if the ‘thugs decide that it’s her turn, or if she figures out a way to pull a GWB and jump to the head of line. I don’t think her Rolodex is suited to that stunt, though.

Dear God! We go back next week, though I am already teaching a winter session short course (14 weeks in 14 days!). Our whole end of campus sees to be one huge construction zone right now. Not too bad in our building most of the time, but we get our moments. Weather here has been pretty nice lately, except for an inversion. Lots of fog all day and stinky air. Not sure when it is supposed to go away, but not for a while.
Mitt is possible as is Huckabee. Huckster motivates the base and doesn’t scare the suits nearly as much as little Sarah.
Heh heh — that’s great! I have to say that the museum is setting up a big screen for five hours to see the ceremonies (a first!). But this big crybaby needs to be out of the office to enjoy the day.

The evening radio host where I listen (wemu.org) read some remarks that Dr. King had delivered by invitation of the 1964 Berlin Jazz Festival.
The substance concerned the importance of music, and jazz in particular, as a focussed expression of human feeling and freedom.
It was good to get a broader perspective on Dr. King and the other kinds of thinking that informed his social action —and good, too, to see that this was recognized during his life. Here’s hoping that Change will include an end to the quite strangulation of culture that we’ve been living through with all the rest of it.
Although I’m from the great blue northeast, I’m currently working in Jeb’s homestate of Florida (Jacksonville).
At dinner last night, the residents were talking about the prospect of Jeb running. Mostly the consensus was the Democrats can make hay on Jeb’s handling of the famous Schiavo case here in Florida in 2005.
Again, his handling or not of the situation might appeal to the conservative Christian right, but not to too many others. Could be a dealbreaker for many.
