You know what’s freaky? Reading the history of Warren Harding’s campaign and seeing the whole thing all over again. The rethug approach goes back to the 1920s — probably before, but the propagandizing of the American people in 1917-1918 made the rest duck soup for them. When one looks back on this history, one is astounded at the continuity of the Republican programme and approach to politics.

One of the important aspects of our government is committees — group decision-making in Congress and the S. Court and to a large extent in the Executive too.

Jefferson wrote the first draft(s) of the Decl. of Independence, but it was edited by others, including Ben Franklin.

It’s a wonderful document.

I’ve never heard though whether Tom Paine may have had a hand in the Decl. of Ind. or the Constitution. He wrote powerfully.
