The real speech:
And in case you are really suffering from insomnia, The transcript
You know, I’m so disgusted by him, I can’t even bring myself to read the commentary. He has always made me want to vomit, and that’s the last thing I need right now.
I am sure you go not want us to watch it again…as someone said of another occasion, Katrina, I think: He mailed it in. No reruns, please.
LOL!
Heh. I would need a shoe proof monitor.
that’s mild, mine has to be gun proof
I didn’t listen to it. Was he humble?
Another in a series of on-going moments from the last 8 years when frankly, I am again soooo glad that we do not get television Chez Siberia on the Susquehanna.
Humble? Bush?
Frog Walk…is that the correct spelling? Here’s why frog walking down the aisle to a court for the crimes.
Hugh’s List
aHAHAHA
I don’t want to watch it here. I didn’t watch it live or on any of the stations who are repeating it.
I think it’s interesting that there was a miracle landing on water and survival of all news story that is trumping Bush’s good bye speech.
Is FDL going to cover that?
Miracles. Good. Bush? Who cares.
frogmarched
bullet proof screens for watching MSM…could be an economic stimulus.
I will not watch it here or there.
I will not watch it anywhere.
I do not like George Bush at all.
He is not great…he’s very small…
Thank you, Toby Seuss.
Good One.
A Poet!!!!
Blah Blah Black Sheep
Have you any soul
I watched it. Poorly written, poorly presented, poor content. But, really, what’s the man going to say? “God let me down”? “I put everything in His hands and He screwed up royally”?
Bush reminds me of a story I heard years ago about a slacker who showed up for the final exam looking exhausted. The professor asked him about it. The slacker said “I was up all night for this test”. The prof was impressed and surprised. “You studied all night?” “No” the slacker replied. “I was up all night praying”. That’s our pres. Make a decision without the required work involved, pat himself on the back for his decisiveness, and say a prayer.
No, but truly inarticulate, in a word, and a bit whiny, condescending, and maybe falsely humble, actually.
I doubt he has spent all night praying. About anything.
Unless it was on the tile floor around the throne, praying to feel better. It doesn’t work like that. I think.
Well, we’ve survived the last “address to the nation.” The good people at World-O-Crap have a breaking news story about W’s plans for 1/20/09. (MAJOR spew alert…!)
Boosh upstaged by a gaggle of geese.
’bout sums things up.
Taylor Marsh has a great post up over at HuffPo reminding that Bush kept us safe not so much…
sealing his legacy for all posterity: he can now retire secure in the knowledge that his name will be used forevermore to make small children weep. Ugh.
Boosh upstaged by a gaggle of geese.
Sounds like an Oxdown Diary to me.
I await. :)

(looking up quotes for my uncle’s funeral and couldn’t resist)
This is OT but I’m just getting a chance now to watch some of the Holder hearings. I’m disappointed in him. I read some quotes and liked what I read, but (imho)the guys not impressive. Is it just me? I expected the best and the brightest from Obama. I’m not even talking about Rich etc. I’m just not impressed with the man. Like I said…disappointed.
Surreal was the word used in the thread where the speech was liveblogged. And it was. The worst President in our history bidding us farewell. What does that even mean? What does it say about our media that they dutifully broadcast it as if this were any other President leaving office? Yes, it was an act of narcissism, one last and supreme display of denial, but the really twisted part was how normal it was treated by the media.
Oh, dmac. My condolences.
Blessings on your family in this time of loss and sorrow. It’s never easy. Lifting you and yours UP.
(((dmac and family)))
Oh, one more thing for Toby and all those who didn’t watch Bush. He mentioned Roberts and Alito. A stab in every liberal’s heart (which was probably the intent).
please, Mr President, try for a coup or something. I figure that’s the only way we’ll ever get to see you dragged off in chains.
the bush speech–black man next to laura, but not too close..everyone else-seating was crowded in.
lots of ‘hallmark’ sentimental people there, wonder how they got them there.individual stories, not too many considering he was there 8 years, and rule out the 911 stories, not so many.
overall word of the week for bush–pathetic. there was so much not there that i ,for a second, i felt pained and sorry for him. and that’s saying a lot.
he does not see the world spinning round. thank you john lennon.
Nursing a headcold and up against a deadline, so I gotta beg off and leave the gaggles to someone else’s tender snark.
The only reason we saw it was Keith Olbermann covered the 13 minute speech. Shorter Bush to USA: You’re Welcome!
Hugh’s comment from the list:
“George Bush, the Connecticut cowboy, the good old boy from Yale is a man of mediocre intelligence, little imagination, and great stubbornness and vindictiveness. He may be the Decider but his handlers have long known how to manipulate him. The key is to hook him with short, simple sells. Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, and Condoleezza Rice knew that once he has consulted his gut and perhaps his higher father his decision is forever. So whoever gets to him first is likely to carry the day because he doesn’t like to be challenged and is, quite simply, too lazy to change his mind. The Bubble is a natural consequence of this decision making process where logic, reason, and facts have little or no role.”
That says it for me. Thank you for the list Hugh.
well, great to see him go. sure hope it happens.
the astonishing aspect of it all? that there are still any citizens who applaud his performance.
it should be 0%.
Cup of chicken soup for you, honey. Feel better.
Yep..shorter Bush: “I still won – I’ve got my boys on the Su-preme Court and they’ll take care of me…forever…”
I’m sorry, but I cannot bring myself to Digg this post.
PS – Not goose soup! Chicken soup. Jewish penicillin, they call it.
707! I had to think about it.
Evening, all.
Well, then let’s see him have a parade in Baghdad. I’m sure it would be well attended.
Shorter Dubya: So long as your heart is true, any amount of disaster you cause along the way — ANY amount — is OK.
Ron Dog! It’s been a while since I’ve had the pleasure of saying that.
You good?
Folks, believe it or not I am upstairs…..
MSNBC is rerunning the commentary that followed the speech. Tweety is making sense, sounding surprisingly observant and analytical. I think he wrote and practiced his speil before the speech.
Hey Demi!
Wife: surgery in November. Daughter hit by a car in Dec, surgery and rehab continuing. Me: Full time student, playing nurse to two post-op loved ones, while also tending to my 2 and 4 year old grandsons. Me? I’m fine, but very little time. I’ve missed you all. I’m fine, myself. You?
thanks demi, it’s ok. the man was never sick a day in his life….got cancer, liver and elsewhere when he was 78…beat it…died at 83. he was a genius. worked at the gugenheim institute. a totally unique individual. bought me art kits and atlases and taught me about shortwave radio and astronomy and prisms and so many things too long to list..could recite any fact about anything. really. i remember asking him about ‘go east of the ginger trees’ by seals and crofts wondering about the reference.my first understanding of other religions.i have his dictionary of classical mythology and atlases and other things. he has a huge binder of letters to the editor, solidly filled. an entire binder of them.his herowas toynbee.uncle sonny was a fine human being. the highest compliment i p ay to anyone, a fine human being…..a bachelor.
observor, never an unkind word from his mouth. his whole fucking life. a once in a millenium chance to know someone like him…let alone be related to him….if anyone has a suggestion for a quote for someone like that, email me at–
dmactree@yahoo.com
thanks demi, email me.

god bless the caretakers
they feed the universe.
Bless you and yours, dmac, and my awesome respect for your uncle, and my condolences.
coming from you )and demi) , that means a lot, i have a feeling you know the kind of man i am talking about. you are of the same kind.
Sorry…I was being a girl upstairs with Toby, looking at china. Will save the link, do some thinking and contact you. :)
you can see China from your house?
You are very kind. The depth and breadth of wisdom and knowledge displayed by your uncle is the kind of thing I aspire to, but it sounds like he was the genuine article.
{{{dmac}}}
and i want to say to the pups, that my uncle i mentioned is the one who taught me to call and write congress and anyone else who may have an interest …….to just write, you never know who will answer. and he was right. you never know. he had a binder filled with responses. i have only a few compared to his. they do answer if you write. presidents, congress, locals. they answer,. it’s planting a seed. saying what matters to you.
nite
That was pathetic. He was grovelling and he could not even be honest in his last opportunity.
Just for a start…
”America must maintain our moral clarity.” Torture is okay, attacking other countries unprovoked is okay, spying on own citizens is okay, just to clarify our morality.
”Murdering the innocent to advance an ideology is wrong every time, everywhere.” But ”freedom” as I define it is not an ideology so my murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent in Iraq is not wrong.
”As I leave the house he (Thomas Jefferson) occupied two centuries ago…” Sorry, that house was destroyed in 1814 when America lost its first war when freedom fighters / ”terrorists” from Canada responded to another American attack of aggression. Bush can’t even get the White House history right.
Bush then commends a man older than himself, Bill Krissoff, who wanted to enlist and his petition for a waiver about age was granted. If Bush is sincere in his admiration, why doesn’t he do the same – to overcome his legacy of being a deserting yellow dog republican? I bet he is willing to make the tough decision and cower again.

freddy! Yeah, I noticed that too. He’s lived in the White House for 8 years + his father as prez and vp … and HE THINKS Jefferson lived in the same building. gah. That info is probably provided to the tourists during the White House tour every single day. I bet he’s never even been to Monticello or Mount Vernon for that matter, unless it was an ’official’ event.
As for Bush … ”y’all went on with your lives after 9/11 … I couldn’t” … EXCUSE ME? … the SotU stuff with the people props, all black (ahem) … Cheney in a fucking subservient role ALL for SHOW … and ”you may not like mah decisions but y’all would have made the same decisions” … sorry buster, not me.
And that’s all I can remember, mercifully. More will fade with time, as all good trauma does.
Total fucking nacissistic propaganda. It was far, far, far worse than I expected. CNN ”moved on” in 3 minutes!!!!!! I counted. Even his fans cannot wade through this crap without something breaking through their denial.
