Neil was one of the first rockers to go on Colbert’s show IIRC. pointing out – way back then – what a bad idea iraq is/was. He was so great at rolling with Colbert’s schtick.
Hiya Pups,
Snow here tonight and bitter cold. Lovely, though. I can’t decide if I should stay home on the 20th and watch tv, or go to work and lurk. At any rate, Sunday should be pretty exciting watching the old tee vee and all the festivities.
I am now in the Nixon American Experience on PBS where the Vietnam war is taking center stage. It is interesting that the same meme used then during protests used today…. weirdly parallel to today and memories from high school and college
I don’t know where you are at but I am bowing to your greatness too.
Neil is fearless.
I saw an article where he was exhorting Detroit to keep making cars and start putting electric drivetrains in them.
He has a 59? Caddy he had converted and it is way cool.
Neil is very in to electric cars. Google “Lincvolt”
The main car he’s converted a big old Lincoln that runs on electricity with a biofuel powered generator as back up. 65 miles to the gallon and shooting for 100.
If anyone gets a chance to watch this episode of PBS The American Experience about Nixon it is very eye opening…… I knew a lot of the details but this view is from inside the White House and his administration…… you can see that Darth learned all these tactics right from Nixon’s knee…..
Oh god, boys and their toys! My hubby was so excited about my sewing machine because the company also made motorcycles! Husquvarna? So we call it my power tool.
But yeah, electric cars are a great idea! Jeepers, I wonder why it didn’t catch on earlier??? hmmm.
instead of cut and paste type the words (like performers at memorial sunday), highlight those words, and then copy the url of the post you wanna link to and click on the chain thingie above where ya type (second from right).
a little box will pop up – paste the url inside the little box and click on ok
voila.. link is embedded in those highlighted words
Actually Darth was plenty ticked off at Nixon for the China thing. That’s why 9/11 was so key to everything that followed. I don’t care if he wandered off the reservation to talk to Jim Lehrer (spit). This jeepers no one told us about alQuaeda crap is wearing out my last nerve. Makes Nixon look like a DFH.
I would be a pain in the butt at a theater with my cough that I cannot control….. thankfully the coughing up blood has only happened three times……. That is not fun and scares the shit out of me…….
I’d love to make my dittohead dad watch that one. Was talking to him about it, and he was convinced the actual interview never happened. That Nixon never said, “When the President does it, it’s not illegal.” I don’t think he appreciated the YouTube of Nixon saying that very much.
Neil has always been a tinkerer and inventor. Holds a bunch of patents and developed the remote controls and sound system for Lionel trains back in the 80’s.
When the bombing of Gaza began, Israel hoped it would bolster the influence of the Fatah at the expense of Hamas, but instead exactly the opposite seems to be happening: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01…..=1&hp
Israel hasn’t had much luck with such cleverness. In the beginning, they armed and funded Hamas in hopes that they’d diminish the influence of Fatah (aka the PLO). That strategem didn’t work out so well either.
Did anyone see the movie Bucket List? Morgan Freeman scene showed him coughing up blood, the doc said it is part of having lung cancer. It lasts just 10-15 minutes and just a couple of tissues worth…… It hasn’t happened in weeks……
The cough is from the lung nodules, they irritate the lining of my lungs which causes a dry cough…… I’m day three on the chemo drug and I actually feel better. Less cough in the morning. No side effects yet……. Until the Sutent stops the nodules growing and starts shrinking them then this is normal for me.
I got to see Neil one time, live.
When he played Hurricane, it was something I will never forget.
I can still see him standing up there with his hair flying and Rockin’ My World.
Awesome guitar work.
I also liked his message to Bloggers in this video,
Today I received a lovely email from the owner and proprietor of hotel Elmore and I stay at when we are in Crete, of course we have the same first name……Katerina….asked me to email her and she will set up accommodations for us directly when we want to return. I dream of Crete sun and blue blue water…..
You would bring up Crete, just to make me feel nostalgic/wistful/I don’t know what.
My first wife’s family was from Crete. My son’s going to inherit the beach house there on the North Shore near Platanius, so if I live long enough I get to go back.
Just barely, Chris. The duct tape that connects furnace to duct fell off. I can’t get out and drive because I’m scared to crash the car, there’s 5 inches of snow. So it’s warm in the basement and cold in the house and furnace guy’s coming tomorrow …if he’s allowed to drive. I think it’s a Level 2 snow emergency. Hope they consider HVAC people emergency responders!
I lived there 30 years ago as a dependent wife …… there were three military bases on the Island, USAF and a deep water Naval base at Chania and a listening post up in the mountains…… Crete just wormed a place into my heart……
Yes indeed…… and the one in Chania where they make the traditional wedding bread and fancy animals out of bread. The wedding wreath bread is a sweet bread with a ring of leaves.
Oh yes, but it just has a big heavy flap that falls down when the air starts getting forced through. It heats a little. I’m scared to put regular duct tape on it, this kind he used was shiny like aluminum foil. Rather be cold tonight than have a fire.
((Katymine)) You have a prayer from me too.
Good luck!
If ya wrap enough tin foil around it you can use duct tape on the tin foil because it will not transfer the heat so much.
Might be enough to get ya by.
Neil Young – All Along The Watchtower
We have a atate prison with 5,000 inmates the gangbangers have the yard and the old guys do the industrial production making stuff for $.35 it is tough. One of the guards comes down on his Harley for coffee after work kinda tough but seems human.

Sheeeeesh! I wish I coulda snuck into his suitcase.
I know you’ve all seen this, but I can’t resist. Per WaPo:
“We tortured [Mohammed al-]Qahtani,” said Susan J. Crawford, in her first interview since being named convening authority of military commissions by Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates in February 2007. “His treatment met the legal definition of torture. And that’s why I did not refer the case” for prosecution.
Crawford, a retired judge [and a life-long Republican] who served as general counsel for the Army during the Reagan administration and as Pentagon inspector general when Dick Cheney was secretary of defense, is the first senior Bush administration official responsible for reviewing practices at Guantanamo to publicly state that a detainee was tortured.
I really liked ol’ Neil up til the execrable “Hawks and Doves” in the early 80s. Then I found out he’d become a rabid Reaganite. No one’s perfect, and who am I to hold a grudge against the king of grunge, but has he ever addressed his passion for all things Reagan? Maybe he has issued a mea culpa, of which I would necessarily be unaware, because I haven’t been able to hear the words “Neil Young” ever since Reagan became king, without needing to rush to the nearest receptacle to lose my lunch in.
I really don’t want to hear how much he’s against the war and all, without first hearing his excuse for his Reagan Love. Not that I blame ol’ Neil, but we would not be in the world of shite we’re in now if it weren’t for the slippery slope Ronnie and His Minions started us down.
Simply put, Reagan Worship prepared the way for Cheney’s Way.

The peaceful coexistence of man and fish, ES.

forks of the world unite!
from the look on his face, I can see that boosh is taking “strong exception” to the notion that he is drowning…
Lovely…)
He’s just holding his breath until he turns blue, neuro.
;>)
is neil paraphrasing the title of that Beatles tune, “Why don’t we do it in the road”?
Jr., you old chum.
Eureka-Great Find!
LOL
I think Neil is just an old firedog, whether he lurks or not.
ES!
Oh boy…… love his music….
Hi Margot and katymine. I do too.
here is what neil was sayin’, if you couldn’t tell…
If not a lurking Firedog, I’ll bet he has someone lurking for him.
Neil was one of the first rockers to go on Colbert’s show IIRC. pointing out – way back then – what a bad idea iraq is/was. He was so great at rolling with Colbert’s schtick.
The “naming of the spider” episode?. Classic.
Why, oh why?

Hey, I feel like eulogizing Patrick McGoohan and Ricardo Montalban!
The Prisoner
Secret Agent Man
wonderful man in Thomasina (swoon!)
Bad Man on Silver Streak
Creepy King in Braveheart (We’ll breed them out!)
And Ricardo, so handsome and always waiting for de plane!
Hiya Pups,
Snow here tonight and bitter cold. Lovely, though. I can’t decide if I should stay home on the 20th and watch tv, or go to work and lurk. At any rate, Sunday should be pretty exciting watching the old tee vee and all the festivities.
And hi Margot! Surviving?
So cool to see that here.
Neil emailed me yesterday with a link to the video saying it was something he just did and it knocked me out. I forwarded it to about 20 people.
You just gotta love the sly humor, like the “apple” Ipod. So Neil. My favorite lines (after there’s a bailout coming, but it’s not for you):
“I’m a big rock star/ my sales have tanked/ I’ve still got you/Thanks.”
bwahaha!
Oh. My. Fucking. God.
I know you are somewhere between here and Mecca Eureka Springs and I just got off my fucking knees bowing to your greatness.
That was the most awesome shit I have seen in years.
I can’t even begin to explain how cool that is.
The old fart Rock Star jamming in his back yard and telling it like it is.
I absolutely cracked up when he started rocking out as he was putting in the hearing aids, he got into it more and more the better he could hear it.
AWESOME!!!!
I iz going to steal this, guaranteed.
You are the shit man, great find!
What’s happening on Sunday?
He’s always been true and humble, hasn’t he?
Isn’t it the Lincoln Memorial Inaugural tribute with all the rockers (Bruce Springsteen, and many others)?
I am now in the Nixon American Experience on PBS where the Vietnam war is taking center stage. It is interesting that the same meme used then during protests used today…. weirdly parallel to today and memories from high school and college

Going off my piss poor memory on the year.
LOL, great review Busted! I like him shaking his apple and trying not to laugh!
Yes.
And in his own way terribly sweet. All in all, one of the finest human beings you could ever meet.
I read the most disturbing thing in my entire life tonight. George Bush slash fiction.
Oh, I didn’t know the music begins on Sunday. I’m in!
Glad to hear it. Please think twice before linking it here, then.
Not a Caddy, a Lincoln Continental. Now nicknamed the Linc Volt. And yeah, it is pretty damn cool.
Don’t worry, I won’t do that.
That means we’re old, katymine!
Every time I help my daughter review her history book it’s deja vu. Can you say Banking Crisis? I knew you could. :P
Neil is very in to electric cars. Google “Lincvolt”
The main car he’s converted a big old Lincoln that runs on electricity with a biofuel powered generator as back up. 65 miles to the gallon and shooting for 100.
Probably reads like a Daily Kos midday thread.

Sorry for the long cut and paste (I HAVE to learn how to do this the right way in 2009)
Hey, I guess you beat me to it!
I think one of the greatest live shows of my life was when he played the Warfield with Booker T and The MG’s.
*drools*
I just kicked myself, hard.
I worked at a Lincoln/Mercury dealership for ten years.
Neil is way ahead of the rest of us.

Oh no, it’s far worse than anything, ever. Sort of like Jack Bauer and Jeffrey Dahmer on a combination of ecstasy, speed and viagra, only worse.
instead of cut and paste type the words (like performers at memorial sunday), highlight those words, and then copy the url of the post you wanna link to and click on the chain thingie above where ya type (second from right).

Have you had the chance to see Frost/Nixon yet? I can’t decide if I want to see it now, or wait until it goes to the “dollar movie” this spring.
They also make legendary chainsaws.
Actually Darth was plenty ticked off at Nixon for the China thing. That’s why 9/11 was so key to everything that followed. Perfect! I can use those for denim.
Well, I’ll take your word for it.
I blame the media, myself.
;>)
I would be a pain in the butt at a theater with my cough that I cannot control….. thankfully the coughing up blood has only happened three times……. That is not fun and scares the shit out of me…….
I promise to try — tomorrow!
Thanks Suzanne, and nite to all Pups!
p.s. meanwhile…I’ll cut and paste this to gmail…

Yeah. I remember that tour series. I think it was in ‘93. Killer. The concert at the Warfield has been recorded, BTW.
Booker and Neil are still friends and he was at Neil’s big 60th birthday party a few years back. The MG’s are some fine musicians.
Bud, where were you? You had to be close.
Ouch!
Feel better, katymine!
would scare the crap outta anyone katy. what does the doc say to do when that happens? and what does he say about the cough?
WTF?!!
Coughing up blood SHOULD scare the shit outta ya!
Jesus katymine!
You OK?
Damn, sorry to hear that, hope you get better soon.
Oh, Katymine, that is scary and horrible. I’m thinking of you friend.
Husq is good, but if you really want to cut wood.. Johnsered
No kidding.
I saw more than I missed – BB King, Front Row, Great American Music Hall – but I didn’t see Neil & Booker T.
Don’t kick yourself.
Neil has always been a tinkerer and inventor. Holds a bunch of patents and developed the remote controls and sound system for Lionel trains back in the 80’s.
Holy smokes! I knew all the tapers in that era.. but never had a chance to get a copy. Is it on sale these days?
As a mechanic, it’s a good thing you couldn’t hear me howling.

Hold still, there is a very direct prayer coming your way.

there is always that 2 week break katymine… you deserve several trips after all you’ve been through this past year.
Neil Young has maintained a righteous anger for more years than I care to think.
Make that righteous anger mixed with ironic bemusement.

Can you open the basement door and let the heat rise into the house? Have you tried to fit the duct back in place? (just asking)

You the man dude. Thanks for making my night.
There you go.. destroying my future hat collection. /s
You know, that’s not a bad idea. Hm.
OK, I’ll try it.
