You might have seen that Bush’s final Gallup approval rating was 34%, the lowest since Carter. But…
In one sense, Bush’s final rating is worse than either Carter’s or Truman’s, because his disapproval score is significantly higher. Whereas Bush and Carter share identical 34% final job approval ratings, 61% of Americans disapprove of the job Bush is doing, compared with 55% who said they disapproved of Carter in December 1980.
And here’s the really bad news for the GOP:
Bush mainly has members of his own party to thank for the fact that he is ending his presidency with an approval rating above 30%. Republicans’ approval of him rose from 67% in mid-December to 75% in the current poll — their highest rating of Bush in nearly a year. By contrast, approval of Bush remains extremely scarce among Democrats, and continues to fall under 30% among independents.
Look. When you’re 50 points off from the middle on an issue (50 points!), you’re not just out of the mainstream — you’re radicals. But I suppose if you believe global warming is fake and being gay is a choice, thinking George W. Bush has been a great president in the same neighborhood.

Wadja expect from people who think Sarah Palin is the best thing to happen to the GOP since Ronnie Rayguns.
GOP = Epic Fail
History has made room for GW Clusterfuck in it’s dust bin.
In 100 years—he will share a room with Rutherford B. Hayes.
i hated him the whole time.
It’s kinda like when somebody dies…
After awhile, you only remember the good things. In time, they’ll remember the silly things like not being able to open the door…or “misunderestimate”…how cute..
If Bushco is not held accountable for torture, domestic spying, Tillman, etc…, it will all be forgotten, and W will be revered in the odd ways that Nixon is now. They GOP will rewrite history, and the country won’t care anyway anymore.
So it goes.
and then Jeb will run for President.
Actually, with all the stuff ShrubCo has screwed up I see him playing a prominent role in the history books of the future. Shrub’s real world legacy is still being played out in the Middle East, in Irak, in Afghanistan and an economic downturn throughout the world, particularly here. The common denominator of all these events is, wait for it, Shrub and his administration. Hayes never had a chance to be this big a fuckup.
You can take that to the bank.
Well, clearly those 61% of Americans who disapprove of Bush are a fringe.
I wonder if Tillman’s parents have been in touch with the transition team. I would think their chances of finding out the truth greatly increased with Obama’s election. Gates can be directed to clean this mess up to the Tillman’s satisfaction.
We can help by making it an issue on the transition website.
So far as the mainstream media is concerned, Bush tried to do the right thing and bungled it a bit but most of all, he had very bad luck. And the low ratings? They’re the predictable consequence of that bad luck.
The money people will determine what is taught historically through the media. If they make money with PEBO, they’ll slam W…but if they lose money with PEBO, they’ll campaign for Jeb, and spin whatever took place during the past 8 years. It is important to examine Bushco pre-9/11…not just starting at 9/11, because they had already approached Quest prior to 9/11 to spy on us….they already had a plan. 9/11 must stop being considered taboo to look into.
Guess it all depends on how serious the legacy issues become. If the current severe recession comes to rival the great depression, he will be remembered. If Iraq remains untractable and consumes 50,000 american lives over time, he will be remembered. If those issues drift away in a few years- he will be Rutherford B. Hayes.
And I’m damn proud of it. *g*
Besides they don’t live in the real America

Bitter Enders to the last.
Bush’s Baathists.

I can’t believe that Bush is as high as 34%. The Gallup Polls are always fishy to me.
Just like 9/11 wasn’t the beginning of ShrubCO, 1967 wasn’t the beginning of Isreal.
True.
I can’t imagine, in all honesty, that PEBO will be given accurate information or access to actual documentation of any of their travails. I’m sure they’ve been covering their tracks the whole time and shredding and “losing” all evidence…However, no one is that smart (except perhaps PEBO, who may discern that something is wrong with what he is looking at). There will be smoking guns and whistleblowers that come out over time, but it will take time.
Hayes DID order the military up to help fight a strike and fired on strikers killing some of them- so he made a small place in history for himself.
What this suggests is that the Republicans are becoming even more extreme after the election…when they had to moderate their positions a little in order to win over voters. Now they are admitting that they really loved Bush and his insane policies. Also have to wonder how many folks are simply no longer identifying themselves with the Republicans.
Polls like this can be deceptive since fewer people are registering now and there may be people that have fled from the party, but Gallup may be using old numbers to “scale” their rating %ages. This was a big problem during the election and one of the principal reasons (besides turnout) why the pollsters underestimated support for Obama. The biggest culprit in this was Rassmussen, but Gallup and others were not immune.
Remember this….Bushco is willing to torture people, lock them up without charges forever, lie about why they were killed and use it for their own propaganda, and send their own countrymen and women to their deaths in a war based on lies….They are dangerous, and they are still on the loose, and they are still in control. They may “leave” the WH, but I’ll bet they have sanitized the scene of the crimes pretty thoroughly…but there’s always something that criminals don’t catch…
Yes, even in the face of costing them the election, they support him.
Goopers are only voicing support for Bush to avoid the embarassment of admitting that they were mistaken in voting for him….
People hate to be wrong so much that they would sooner have their arm cut off as admit a serious error of judgement.
OT: I just now realized that Holder’s hearings will precede Bush’s final opportunity to issue pardons. How fortunate for him.
But, just now, I noticed that a GOP senator capriciously insisted that Geithner’s hearings be postponed until after the inauguration. I’d like to see a liberal senator similarly postpone Holder’s hearings.
In less than 100 years, Bush will be in his room in the Bush Wing of Hell.
but what does “REAL America” think?
They will probably try to show that they were not wrong by lining up to support Jeb Bush. Bush/Palin ‘12?
I don’t quite get where we get 50 points from. Doesn’t 75 minus 34 = 41?
Admitting that Bush was a failure is tantamount to admitting that gooperism is bad medicine. One can hardly adhere faithfully to tax cuts uber alles- and warfare as far as the eye can see- as the antidotes to all that ails us- while calling GW Clusterfuck a failure- those were his guiding principles.
The rethug party has become the party of stupid.. It seems like they are competing with themselves for the title but Inhofe has doubled down

Sorta OT. Bill Young (R-FL 10) was reelected in Nov and the local Dems are already starting their campaigns to unseat him, if he runs again, or run a full blown campaign against a new Rethug. I just got a call from one of them who asked me to be her treasurer. I said thanks but no thanks. Three times was enough. I had to really mind my p’s and q’s as Samm’s treasurer and I don’t want to this time round.
The Republicans supported Bush because of his carefully contrived “image” — sort of self-effacing and comedic at times…appearing tough at times — I’m the Decider– I’m the War President — Bring it On–..cough, gag…speaking well through the bullhorn, while using his magnificent cheerleading skills on the rubble of the Towers (ooh, sorry I mentioned the Towers)…If he looked like an old, fat, warty toad…they wouldn’t have in the long run. Same with Palin…if she looked like an old, shriveled-up, sagging-titted witch…they wouldn’t have supported her…the Puke women liked her clothes and shoes and Haaaky Maaam cries…and the men liked her legs and her ass.
Insanity.
75% with independents under 30% (I’m guessing 26, 27). So that’s 48-49, possibly 50, points off.
GW Clusterfuck makes his final attempt at convincing the gooper community of his faithful service tomorrow night. Can’t imagine that anyone else is interested in hearing him lie one last time.
Back to the quarry.
Goopers liked him because he stood unapologetically for their principles and never wavered. He took the lead in treating the opposition as cowardly assholes and fought them every step of the way.
In short- GW Clusterfuck was to gooperism what the American left is screaming for from Obama.
It may be his last time as president – maybe not since we have a sunday morning left. But don’t expect for there to be no Bush was great shit coming out of Texas.

True, but for awhile…people who were not goopers voted for him for other reasons…that is how he got
electedappointed and then elected again…Cough, cough…voting machines had nothing to do with anything…cough…and cough Gore and Kerry were not…cough…as popular…Do you suppose he can pay for a/c with all the stolen billions . . . and assert HIS reality and authority to redefine . . . it’ll be called Republican Heaven!
Wish Molly was around to sum up the Bush presidency. She really had his number long before he attained high office and enjoyed using it. When he leaves DC I will drink a toast to her.
I agree but we also have some good voices out there including here on FDL

Good ole Molly….
Were I an advocate of gooperism, I would deify GW Clusterfuck. He was never seen as an intellectual leader of the movement, but rather as a general in the war to make the ideas real, and he was successful. The problem is that the ideas suck!
This week of valedictories is really exhausting. I’ve tried so hard to keep him off my teevee and out of my life, but this week W is everywhere! I even left the country in 2001 for his illegitimate installation. Now, even my best teevee friends, Rachel and Keith, are devoting entirely too much attention to him.
The thing Bush would hate the most is if no watched as he slunk away. Can’t we at least give him that?
He refuses to slink- but rather insists on presenting himself as an american hero…..go figure!
slink, slank, slunk?
GW apparently believes that if you ACT guilty- you ARE guilty, and on the other hand, if you BEHAVE as an innocent hero- you ARE one.
Not far from the truth.
key economic indicators continue to tumble- as we approach the start numbers for the Obama administration….Beginning/End numbers for Bush are going to be devastating–in eight years he has managed over 2,000 points of negative growth in the DOW for instance…..Hope someone puts together a comprehensive scorecard for the little asshole on the economy.
“The unexamined life is not worth living” – Socrates
Bush disagrees.
Do you find it disturbing that about 26% of your fellow Americans are okay with swindle, murder, genocide, torture, looting the treasury for their own direct gain, bribery to collect billions in cash in Iraq, assassination, war for profit, war profiteering, shredding the bill of rights, creating propaganda known to be false. Lying about everything, being competent about nothing? How many more things need to be listed?
I am sorry, if that many people are that corrupt, This poor young country doesn’t have a chance.
Bush and the Republics are working hard to make it all Clinton’s fault: Bush did his best but things were so screwed up when he started that there was nothing he could do. It’s a stretch, but what else do they have? Taking responsibility is never a Republic option.
I think going forward, it’s important to remember, Republicans are really sore losers. Expect the next campaign to be all about revenge.
Well, Teddy, there is this!
BTW When is our illustrious leader supposed to be bestowing the medal of freedom on Australia’s illustrious former leader?

I’m with you…… the other day during Bush’s “last” press conference…. it was on all national and cable channels……. except my local faux station…..
Planning on a spa pedicure during GW TeeVee farewell because I really don’t have enough nerf balls to throw and my swearing startles Miss Dog….
“Florida’s my-way-or-the-highway former governor”
The Orlando Sentinel editorial board: “Jeb Bush wasn’t cut out for senatorial duty. Florida’s my-way-or-the-highway former governor didn’t suffer contrary views well, held grudges, thought patience was a vice.”
Bush came in with a 10,500 point DOW. He may leave with a 2,500 point DOW- representing a 24% decline in value in over eight years…adjust for inflation compounded at a 2 or 3 percent rate over eight years and the net return on investment of the average portfolio reaches disaster proportions. You would have gotten a better return burning your money to heat yourself!
Nice job Clusterfuck!
In his defence- he did an equally shitty job in jobs growth, trade deficits, and the strength of the dollar as a world currency. He has also made us much more dependant on imported fossil fuels. It’s a lolapalooza record.
HA HA Sounds like a DHS presser.
141 hrs & 17 min
oops- that was to be “2,500 point DOW decline”
The press seems to be losing interest in Bush and his excuse making- they are even losing interest in the whining of Sarah Palin. God knows what they will begin gaining interest in- Oprah’s weight loss?
FWIW, for some folks, including me, “Republican Heaven” does fit one of the definitions of Hell.
I follow you. Looks like the DOW will end up in the 8000 range, although I would would not be surprised to see a last minute rally. Several trillion dollars have not just vanished. The money went to the Illuminati. If they want to make Shrub look better for the books, they could run the DOW back up to 11000 or so.
They don’t like him THAT much!
Do you know the demographics on the Republican support, e.g., is it 95 % in Idaho. The Republican party is is not a political party any more, it is a certain class.
The picture sez it all……he’s a Christain, that’s why they love him. And, I suspect, they love him more now that he has given them an opportunity at Armageddon with the green light to the Palestinian genocide which could very well spin into WWIII.
Just heard Israel took out the UN headquarters in Gaza, packed with refugees.
