Somehow, I’m thinking the "Barney ate our documentation" argument isn’t going to fly with the incoming administration–or a none-too-happy federal judge. Too funny:
A federal judge says the incoming administration of Barack Obama must be given copies of documents the Bush White House has been withholding from Congress on the firings of nine U.S. attorneys.
By having the documents also given to the incoming Obama administration, Judge Bates end-runs what would have been a National Archives stash and run by the Bushies on this.
Say it with me: awwwww.
Once the documents were filed with the archives, Congress would have had a more difficult time obtaining them. By giving the docs to the Obama administration, the continuity on possession outside archived material continues. Which means the Obama administration could now proceed with the documentation via DOJ and/or through Congressional inquiries.
And, since some of these documents are surely handwritten, personal notes and such? They would not necessarily have been contained in existing government files.
But now they can be.
Additionally, the fight to force testimony from Josh Bolton, Karl Rove and Harriet Miers before the House and Senate judiciary committees continues as well. And will keep going in the 111th Congress.
You have to wonder if those archived USAtty firing documents will come with their own set of latent quail-wing marinade-covered fingerprints.
And given the insulting inanity of Bradley Schlozman’s e-mails (who in the hell is so stupid they put something like this in official, departmental e-mail?), you have to wonder what Potty-Mouth Karl said in all of his, don’t you? Or whether other still-missing e-mails might be included in the pile?
Marcy has much more.
PS — A little Beltway bird tells me that Ledbetter will be coming up in the Senate beginning January 15th. Please call your Senators today to support pay equity.
Also, SCHIP is coming up for another vote in the House and Senate shortly as well — most likely this afternoon in the House. The Speaker’s blog has a summary. The fine folks at FamiliesUSA have set up an 800 number for calls on this issue: 1-800-828-0498. Now, let’s get to work…

Popcorn!
Apparently Bradley Schlozman.
Thanks Christy.
Thanks to Southern Dragon for opening the digg
Pretty much. You have to laugh when a federal judge is calls bullshit on your bury the paperwork maneuvering, don’t you?
The height of arrogance and hubris.
The judge needs to use lye to clean up this stuff, it will burn like hell.
Is that the sound of shredders I hear well into the night?
Lots of that with these boys.
Would you be shocked if it were?
KKKArl believed Bush was the beginning of a rethug lock on governance. They weren’t ever worried the dems would take over.

Christy,
I liked how the NY Times put the perfunctory denial from AL-VINNN’S lawyer in the fourth paragraph, then went right ahead and detailed all the ways that the AL-VINNN did everything the conplaint said he did:
He was probably the most miserable person I ever worked for,” said Rich,
Figures.
Did we ever find out exactly or even approximately what was lost in Cheney’s fire? Or was that just a straw fire?
Oh, Good Morning Everyone.
This is good news Christy, what a buncha weasels.
Are you going to clean up that popcorn? *g*
I’d be shocked if they suddenly went silent.
“Good evening, gentlemen. I’m with the US Marshals Service. Would you accompany me, please.”
Are you still watching Dana on WJ?
Christy, the “potty mouth Karl” link is great. Thanks.
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Hardin Smith:
From a non-lawyer thank you for the posts on this kinda stuff but I have a few questions about the ultimate relevence of all the efforts to uncover this stuff within the legal sausage-maker of truth.
First of all, what guarantee do we have that what is given up will be all that was produced in the first place?
Secondly, what is the statute of limitations on all the possible criminal violations that could be verified by this documentation?
And finally, what about torture and Plamegate treason, where do the documents go relating to all that shit and will any of it ever see the light of day?
Thanx again and…
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, NO PROSECUTIONS-NO JUSTICE, NO JUSTICE-NO PEACE!!
By having the documents also given to the incoming Obama administration, Judge Bates end-runs what would have been a National Archives stash
andend run by the Bushies on this.??
And yet Schlozman had the hubristic chutzpah to label at least three of the attorneys in the Appellate section as incompetent either directly or by suggestion.
Only a real incompetent would be so bloody unprofessional as to put political chatter in writing inside government email systems.
What concerns me is that this bigoted moron may yet get a pardon; it’d be worth it ONLY if he was subpoenaed and forced to testify against whoever set him and his incompetence loose at DOJ.
If Alvin goes to jail, what will happen to the Chipmunks ?
no!
G’Morning Christy & FDLers !
ok, someobody tell me why the president and cheney doesn’t simply destroy these, it doesn’t matter if it’s “against the law”, they are above the law in their own minds and since they have nothing to lose because if the documents implicate them they might as well implicate themselves without the documents I cannot for the life of me figure out why the whitehouse doesn’t simply do what nixon should have done, groi (Get Rid of It)
Hey Norkse, how’re you feeling ?
I have absolutely nothing to base this on but I think we’ve seen all the pardons that are going to come out of the Shrub WH. The fact that those pardoned can be compelled to testify before Congress, or any other proceeding, may well be the reason. ShrubCo has no qualms about letting the hirelings burn.
Better harmonies.
In the Rethug party loyalty is a one-way street.
What does eCAHN say? I guess I’m in an especially masochistic mood this am.
Or I’m just too lazy to change the channel. Actually, it’s interesting to hear the questions from the young people. One young lady just asked if Perrino thought the president used the press to instill a level of fear in US citizens after 9/11. (And, there was a round of applause from the audience.) Her answer was no, of course, but it shows that some young people are actually paying attention. And, that’s important.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
LOL !!!
bawhhhh hahhhh!!!!
Thanks for this GREAT news, Christy! Now I’m going back and study your links.
Heh. Called me out of lurking. Here’s the Q i emailed:
How ya doin’, Petro? Don’t see ya much these days.
I’m redoubling my efforts to get my first book published, hence I won’t be by as often as last year.
Good Morning everyone….. it’s a toasty 40 degrees in Phoenix this morning….
too bad it won’t get asked, another great eCAHN question to WJ
sorry for the OT Christy, carryover from last thread
How about Is it fair to access the press secretary’s job performance based on the president’s approval rating? If not, what would?
eCAHN !
Is it as cold there as it is here ? … – 22 this morning
I also wanted to ask how what Perino’s average daily amphetemine use, but knew that wouldn’t be asked.
Heh, she bluffed the caller’s Q on Blair House.
46 in Tampa and I’m hatin’ it.
so, can somebody tell me why the president doesn’t simply destroy these papers please?
I’m in the city, which is more interesting for indoor activity in the cold. 18 in city, 11 in mid-Hudson, but wind chill makes it subzero. Not anywhere near as bad as -22.
He hasn’t figured out the O-N/O-F-F switch on the shredder.
ps, just renewed my auto registration online, that was one of the most pleasant experiences I have ever had with the dmv and it surely rankes top ten internet experiences as well
well cheney can work it we know that as a fact
You are way too sheltered. *g*
Winnipeg nee Winterpeg, hit -54 yesterday ;-)
I am so never comin’ to your place in the winter.
Citizen Petrocelli:
I’m jest tryin ta make it here, Brother Petrocelli, got a nuclear stress echocardiogram tomorrow mornin…it’s kinda like sittin on top of a sleepin dragon…now if I jest stay real quiet this bastard won’t wake up and have me fer breakfast.
But of course I can’t stay quiet for that long…hope the bastard doesn’t eat breakfast.
Brrrr. I still like cold weather but the older I get, the less cold I like.
Hope it warms up by Friday, when I’m going to norther VT for a memorial service for a dear friend who died on Christmas day.
Citizen perris:
I don’t think we’re ever gunna see ANYthin’ from this administrastion and nobody’s gunna be held accountable.
40.7 degrees here. Snow will probably be all gone this PM.
146 hrs & 15 min
I hope that turns out well. Thinkin’ about ya and don’t stress yerself out thinkin’ about it.
Wishing you a speedy recovery !
Sorry to hear that. Bless your heart.
Citizen SouthernDragon:
“It don’t mean nuthin’, brother.” Thanks for the thoughts Brother SD but I got the same 50-50 shot we all have everyday…I either deal with it or it deals with me. Better odds’n the Palestinians have.
Did I mention that we have Cognac and Grand Marnier in our Igloo ? *g*
My condolencences eCAHN, last year my best friend’s dad passed on Dec. 25.
This year was understandably a sombre one for them.
Thanks.
My friend was a man with no heirs, so his personal secretary had to make the calls. She called me when I was on the train to visit my relatives for the holidays. I fell so sorry for her having to spend her Christmas Day that way. Also, he was the sole owner of a manufacturing business that employs around 100, so there is anxiety about how the company will survive. There is a succession plan (some sort of employeee ownership), but one nevers knows how that will work until it’s tried, and in this economy too.
Citizen eCAHNomics:
Bless yer heart there Citizen eCAHN…so sorry for yer loss. I know whatcha mean about dealin with the cold, winter used ta be my favorite time a the year and I was born and raised in Minnesota(born in Bemidji) so I remember gettin up a couple a mornings to 50 below temps…as I grow older I begin ta wonder about how we ever overcome the courageous stupidity of youth.
Ouch, that’s tough. So sorry…
Feel better soon, and let us know about your tests.
I grew up in Buffalo, and my favorite memories relate to snow and cold.
Best of luck on your tests!
LOL … when I lived on the Prairies, we’d be out playing all day in that weather, coming in long enough for Hot Chocolate and Pizza/Burgers.
And in those days, no one work Ski Pants … young and foolish indeed.
I think that Ted’s (my friend) secretary, Amy, is the one who deserves the most condolences. She really held his professional & personal life together like a real old-fashioned, devoted, personal secretry. And I intend to tell her how much I appreciated her, in my limited contact.
oops, “wore”, not work
(((Norske))) (((ECAHN)))
Thanks LS.
Christy..stupid question…Need guidance on what type of things are we trying to find to highlight in the Conyers report?
It was/is 26 degrees here in my part of TX. This morning, at 7 A.M. I was awakened by a call from my neighbor (1/2 a mile away whose name, I kid you not is Bubba)..that two of my horses were contentedly grazing in his front yard…Oy vey…nothing like donning your flight suit and leading the two tricksters home right down the middle of the road in the freezing morning…Brrrrr…escape artist brats.
I think that he’d better stay away from his shredder. A judge has ruled that White House visitor and Secret Service records are public records. Cheney had said that they were not.
9 Jan 2009 Today, in two separate CREW lawsuits, the U.S. District Court for D.C. ruled that the White House visitor records maintained by the Secret Service are not subject to the presidential communications privilege and must be disclosed. CREW is seeking records of visits made by nine conservative religious leaders as well as records of visits by Stephen Payne, who was caught on videotape attempting to sell access to top White House officials in return for contributions to the Bush presidential library.
Judge Lamberth also granted, in large part, CREW’s claim under the Federal Records Act (FRA) that the Secret Service had impermissibly destroyed federal records. At the direction of the White House, the Secret Service destroyed visitor records without retaining copies. The court found the archivist had violated his legal obligation to ask the attorney general to initiate legal action to recover the deleted records and ordered the archivist to do so now.
Anne Weismann, CREW’s chief counsel, stated, “CREW’s victory today reaffirms the public’s right to know what the government is doing. We are pleased that the judicial branch has ripped the cloak of secrecy away from the White House and we hope the incoming administration takes heed of the court’s decision and ensures Secret Service records are available to the public.”

Christy, I’ve followed so many of your links that I lost track of the origin of a comment by Chuteh back on March 7, 2007. In that comment Chuteh gave info of the CIA/news media/journalists propaganda agreement going way back to Allen Dulles time.
Until I read that and followed Chuteh’s link, I still believed that ‘used-to-be’ our newspapers told us the truth. (I was first eligible to vote 1952, so have believed lies most of my long life!)
Chuteh tells us (and lists the media who signed on), that the operation was named MOCKINGBIRD and that at least 25 media organizations and 400 journalists signed onto the CIA payroll.
Here is the link given by Chuteh: http://www.petitiononline.com/6725/petition.html
Fox news is talking about BO going to a Conservative party. Why did he do that?
I’m bothered by his flat refusal to answer the question about pardons at his ‘last’ press conference.
Cheney is not the fourth branch of government. He is his own government and there is a clear line drawn around his activities and the rest of the world. /s
You cook too much, Christy. Okay, let me rephrase that. Your wonderful cooking talents lead you to use a lot of food references in your writing. Marinated quail wings sound very delicious, or they did before you got the taint of the Bush Administration all over them. I’ve never said anything to you before about your penchant for writing about food and cooking (which was in full swing before Christmas), but I felt I must.
In my life I have known very few members of the fair sex who like to cook. Being from Louisiana I have cooked my entire life, so maybe that’s one reason the women I have known hardly ever cooked. Doesn’t it seem socially conservative to you that you devote so many paragraphs to food? It does to me. I wonder what it’s like to know a liberal woman who still thrives in a kitchen.
P.S. They need to put a hefty amount of the administration’s records concerning the USA firings into a stout burlap sack, and then beat the crap out of the involved parties with it. [Just to stay on topic.]
I have not read all of the comments so if this has been stated already my apologies. Has anyone figured out the differences between Schlotzman hiding the truth from Cogress and Roger Clemens alledgedly doing the same. What lunacy prevails at DOJ that they convene a Grand Jury for Roger Dodger and not the slime ball Schlotzman?
but the question is butterfly;
or what?
they just do not care and they know they will not be prosecuted
NFT,
Relax! I’ve had to submit to a “Nuclear” stress test twice because my EKG has an anomaly and work required it for international travel. I think it’s probably from living at high altitude (above 7500′) and climbing mountains daily. Worrying won’t help you get a good night’s sleep, so give that up. Wear comfortable walking or running shoes and shorts or sweats. Take a banana and some juice for a snack afterward, doctor’s offices have notoriously lousy junk snacks in the vending machines. You’ll be fine! The good news is there will be a base line in the event of any future test.
ALL of this weasel like behavior from ” Turdblossom and his Merry GOP Band of Dingleberries ” reminds me of the old adage,”Scratch a bully, and you find a coward.”
Probably, they won’t, but these records belong to the American people and should be preserved. I want to know who was part of Cheney’s plan for the takeover of Iraq’s oil fields. Those maps were dated March 2001. The plan to overthrow Sadaam was there before 911. That is why Bush so quickly blamed him. These people are traitors; the people of the US should be warned who they are. They arranged an illegal invasion of Iraq and are responsible for many deaths. Exposure of who they are is vital.
Cheney fought hard to keep those visitor records private. The fact that he didn’t wanted the names known would suggest that they have a lot to hide.
On the same theme..a sentence from Wikileaks..
The pages of history, including the “papers of record”, are our common heritage. They are, as Orwell reminds us, not merely a window into the past, but the means by which we chart our future.
Don’t feel alone..the majority of Americans don’t realize that their news has been a lie since 1948. ‘Joe the Reporter’ says the military should decide what news to release. The dumb s**t doesn’t know that they already do. The good old MIC that America was warned about by Eisenhower.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
http://www.famous-speeches-and…..ddress.htm
The history that has been taught to Americans is mostly lies. Especially, the history of who causes wars. Find me a war that the US didn’t make, or let, happen. There must be one..somewhere.
