Shemekia Copeland – Ghetto Child, recorded on the 2008 LRBC (Blues Cruise).
What’s on your mind tonight?
Suz!
Does. Not. Need. The. Mic.
Ahhh, Late Late Nite. Hello Suzanne and Newt. Snow here!
hey newton – ya think her dad, johnnie copeland, is proud of his little girl?
hey christine e – no rain here! i actually saw a glimmer of blue sky late this afternoon – but then the clouds quickly covered it back up again.
Hi Chris :-)
no snow. light sprinkle mid-day. 48 and still.
I enjoy the clips, but I’ve been wondering for a while why it says, “by Suzanne.” As a writer, I find it a little odd. Maybe there’s another way to phrase it that would be more appropriate?
We too, had quick glimmer of sunshine and then, snow and wind. When I left the building, we had a wind chill of 12F. But it was white all over the lawns and house, and everything looked so lovely.
nice handle
hi saltinwound, i do not know the answer to that question.
I’m thinking…
Hiya, pups!
I’m researching the contentious relationship between John Ziegler, the wingnut who thinks “The Path to 9/11″ is right up there with Citizen Kans, and Nate Silver, who thinks Ziegler is a whackjob. Ziegler is the guy who interviewed Sarah Palin in Wasilla monday, as part of his upcoming movie about how the press helped Obama steal the 2008 election.
i had no sunshine – just a patch of blue skies over the spit. the weather dood, however, is predicting sunshine fri and sat.
hey et
Wow! Good for you ET — my new hero Nate Silver.
ten more days of the Lord of the Flies. Anyone care (or dare) to speculate what other chaos might be wrought by our ruling savages in the time they have left? Bombing Iran? Auto industry bankruptcy? More riots in American cities?
hey blub
This is, after all, how whipper-snapper whackjobs get to be media-mogul whackjobs – they pick their subject with extreme care.
Evening Pups here is the Digg open!
Here for just a moment nite nite!
It says “By Suzanne” because she is the poster of this particular piece.
It is a unique post on this website.
By the way Suzanne, how dry is your little doggies ass?
I see bad things happening your way, can’t say I didn’t warn ya.
Nice find fer the tunes, again.
Hi Suz, I’m driving-by, celebrating a National Championship in Football tonight!
Go Gators!
Hiya pups! I just got off the phone with my sister who is at a training session in Anchorage!
You should know that Suzanne is our Late Late Nite FDL Goddess and has a “glare” to paralyze. Welcome!
hey nahant -thanks for opening the digg
busted – you feeling better?
hey gnome – training what/who?
is that hockey?
She works for a large engineering firm that does their new employee training in Anchorage. Sister lives in Portland, sorta near you!
Good evening folks. Inauguration day can’t come soon enough I think. Is it just me or are the media minions on Obama’s ass all day, every day?
The Glare that I successfully dodged so many times that I , OUCH! OUCH! QUIT! OUCH! SHIT!!!
Hey ET!
If Sarah Palin was a democrat, would she still be a hypocrite?
And has she offered to fly a helicopter over Ann Coulter and declare hunting season on people who rip single mothers yet?
My prurient curiosity continues…
Are you liking your new diggs? I gather you love the house, but is the outside environment making you happy?
That would be college football.
*innocent look*
so far, i am loving living on the oregon coast. of course, i have not gone through an entire winter yet
That is on all of the FDL posts. This one happens to be by Suzanne. (THE CRAZY WONDERFUL UNBELIEVABLE HOSTESS WITH ALL THE GOODS)
sheet, loohoo, you trying to give me a big head?
Oh Busted, you are a naughty boy. Heh, heh.
whatcha ya’ll think about shemekia?
God help us all.
Heh heh, ya think?
Prurient is just an awesome word IMHO :-)
Hiya Sophie!
Oh yes, they are on his ass every MINUTE of evey day.
Pretty damn incredible! Great choice as always.
sophie, you feel that shaker down there tonight?
Takes one DFH to find another…
Training for what? Taking down republicans, I hope.
Hiya Christine! I was hoping I wasn’t becomming paranoid, but it seems they just won’t give the guy a break. He hasn’t even been inaugurated yet.
You know I did, it surprised me. At first I thought I was imagining it until I heard it on the news. Have to say it made me feel better to know I’m not going bonkers…
It’s not just you. But it would be nice if the media did their job (s), wouldn’t it?
I think it would shock us all to death, and then what would we bitch about;-)
As if!!
Obama scares the piss out of the current crop of thieving treasonous environmental economy killers.
“He ain’t one of us” comes to mind.
Yup! Deserved.
when my power came back on last nite i watched the rerun of tds – came on in time to see the end of the show with rachel on it.
she said she doesn’t have a tv – gets all her info via her online machine (laptop)
Sophie, I love it here, but I’m just hoping for baby steps. All my years of protests and bitchin’ tell me to just cool my jets and enjoy BO and Michelle’s success.
Okay. Sounded kinda religious and while that’s often good, this didn’t stack up with righteous gospel.
I love the adjectives you have used here, quite accurate.
We have snow here, no school today, supposed to get more tomorrow.
Time to make Russian Tea.;)
try this version of the song loohoo
I agree. The country isn’t going to go totally progressive overnight. Too many “evil-doers” with power out there, a President can’t do it all on his own.
How does one make Russian tea?
LOL
You bein’ good? Pfft why do I even ask. Never mind!
Sophie, hold on one minute I’ll get the recipe
the r’s are shitting in their pants at the thought of a d prez elected having boosh power.
they are trying to paint him as a failure before he even begins to try to derail his platform.
Russian Tea
I cannot tell you my journeys to find FDL type places. Try googling old hippies, or what happened to anti-vietnam war hippies. It wasn’t easy to find Jane’s place, but it sure was worth the search!
Whew. Took a nap — almost slept thru late late nite.
r’s are such rat bastards! I don’t know if that is just one word, hyphenated, or two words…
Hence, the hasty retreat.
Time fer me to fall down and go Boom. Quite the week.
Blogwhore Alert, I was blind sided and found out after the fact that the Ornery Bastard got a mention at Crooks and Liars today from Mike Finnigan.
Way cool.
Gnite y’all, I have a heavy load in front of me and I still ain’t healed up yet.
Go until ya stop, then get up and go some more.
Wow, thanks Margot. Sounds pretty tasty. I haven’t had Tang in many, many moons. I didn’t even know they still made it!
yup
pretty soon we will be hearing about the sanctity of the rule of law from the forkers
g’thud and congrats busted – tis well deserved dood
Peace and sweet dreams Busted….
*gasp* sleeping through late late nite?
OK – finished my Nate Silver vs
total whackjobJohn Ziegler piece. And – I got a cool honor back in December that I just found out about today. Weird…..
I can’t really remember, but I think that it all started with a link from NYT to Raw Story and then to Daily Kos, and to FDL (I think!) It was during the lead up to Lamont race and then of course to the Libby trial.
That is kind of a shocker, isn’t it. I don’t think she misses too much of the tv news though. I just watch the highlights myself on the Sunday shows. And how could one possibly see nightly news without the nets? Comedy Central?
How did life used to exist???
Oh, this is good!
*raucous cheering*
congrats et – pretty forking kewl for a non-scientist to be honored by a scientific publication
Bolton and Yoo are such wing-nut jackasses. They seriously should consider emmigration as a life choice.
Does that make me “counter creationist”…? Better than being a toilet bowl evolutionist, eh?
Palinology isn’t a science?
Oh, yeah – more like a civic responsibility.
WELL DONE.
ET, you amaze me .
Good on ya man, if they only paid attention to all you have done over the past several years.
Good on ya man.
Good night.
ET Jr:
“Yeah, right, dad. Is that like your other favorite “magazines” made up of keyboards, electrons and recovering WOW addicts?”
He was in a foul mood because his new ski boots don’t fit at all.
Way to go ET!
Suz, sorry, but I don’t like this music. I don’t like that it’s a copy of good blues, but the message isn’t even authentic. It’s gimme. Good blues talks about the difficulties, but figures ways to make it all work.
Imagine if the top blues artists had to compete with this?
Renaissance man.
kids prefer to think we don’t know a thing. i knew my oldest was grown up when she sadly admitted to me that ‘mom, you were right’
i’m sorry you don’t like the song loohoo.
WHOO HOO for sure, EW!!!
Thanks, pups!
Can’t wait to get back to my real work.
More like -Baroquen
What country would take American war criminals? That might be harder than finding homes for Gitmo folks.
ET, if you are still around, congrats on the cool honor!
hey neuro
It should definitely be harder than finding homes for Gitmo folks and isn’t that something! Maybe Paraguay? Not that I have anything against Paraguay.
scratching head ;-)
Don’t be sorry, Suz, you done proud. I’m just overly critical I guess, with absolutely no musical ability of my own.
hi suzanne
just a quick read-through before retiring
We are fucking BROKE! – thanks to W and his criminal gang.
And, my right thumb is getting broken down from arthritis and something else (maybe), keeping me from playing as much Baroque music as I’d like. Seeing the doctor Monday.
Happy New Year neuro!
LooHoo @ 92I’d like to think the extended prison term they face will make accepting countries a moot point for a long, long time.
You’re thinking that Bush bought a huge ranch in Paraguay, (with clean water) that he and his buds may want to scoot.
Me too. He’d be an absolute fool to stick around these parts.
I loved the clips from the latest Palin interview on Countdown tonight.
especially the part where she raved that KO is EVIL!
Geez. Another something we don’t need. Have you tried the atheletic heat wraps on the thumb?
please let me know what the doc says et
I hope they all go there, and good riddance!
thanks, sophie. happy new year to you and all those here!
Shemekia Copeland: the blues keeps on keeping on.
She certainly didn’t do her self any favors in that interview with anyone but the most wing-nut of wing-nuts! Her people in other words….
The gift that keeps on giving, huh? You’d think she’d just shut up for four years.
Got it.. :-) Sorry about the thumb.
hey prostratedragon how ya been?
Citizen Edward Teller:
Et Tu ET?…I haven’t played any Baroque quartets in 40 years but I too have been seein’ the Professional Mallards since Monday…arthritis ain’t fun, what do ya play, woodwinds er strings?
The fact that she is simply an illiterate moron seems to completely evade her consciousness, it is everyone elses fault that she is an idiot.
norske!!! dood, you ok?
Been thinking about it. There’s a big knob at the thumb side of the heel of my hand that wasn’t there two years ago. It is growing slowly. During the holiday break, I was practicing piano 2 to 5 hours a day, as I’ve broken (there’s the word again) my cigarette habit, successfully. Now the knob is actually a little bit inflamed and swollen too, from all the flexing and finger-thumb crossovers. That’s when I called the Doc.
Enough about my pain.
Citizen Norske,
All the brass, the recorder family and keyboards. I played sitar in the late 60s, early 70s, but sold my sitar in ‘73 to pay my way to Alaska.
Dude, that’s a diary.
She can’t afford to – cute isn’t eternal.
(withdrawing claws now)
A news story just came across my local news station that a man who donated one of his kidney’s to his wife now wants it back from her in their divorce. People have just gone insane!
I blame it on the Republicans, of course.
i saw that on my 6pm news – the dood is a doctor and wants bookoo money or the kidney back.
just more motivation for me to remain single :)
What a hateful person he is. I don’t care what she did or didn’t do, you don’t ask a person to literally sacrifice their life in a divorce settlement. Just way to harsh.
i wonder what tomorrow’s friday nite news dump will be
Common Man Joe the Plumber makes the news again he is going to report on the war. Sarah comments about how the Lefty Press loves Caroline and not her because of Class Differences? I assume Sarah has not read Jane.
Two prominent GOPers both claiming to represent the Common Man? This is not a coincidence especially when we remember that Sarah is a GOPAC grad.
Thats Newt’s School to train GOP candidates to run a campaign, handle press interviews etc.
Newt was very quick to label any attempt to help the poor by Dems as class warfare.
For Sarah to go against her GOPAC training for GOP media creation Joe to embrace the Common Man suggests that the GOP rather than try change their message to appeal to the majority of people are instead trying to change the public’s perception of them personally as the party of WallStreet.
They want the Common Man to identify with them personally establish an emotional appeal based bond and use that to by pass the logic and idea strangle hold the Left has on the American mind.
I cannot imagine a judge giving him the kidney
if she wants to sell it back to him to keep her money, that’s different
Selling organs is criminal.
I suppose so, but not here. I don’t even remember much of the Hindustani music terminology I studied back then.
Fear can bypass logic and let the emotional part of the brain rule another terror attack and Joe and Sarah will the GOP hopes ride into the White House.
Assuming that these two media creatures are taken as real Common People by the majority of people.
Obama’s best defense is he has to sell the Dream of Lefty Dem ideas he has to sell change and make people hope.
Its Pandora’s Box disease, monsters, terrorists, are what the GOP is selling but at the bottom of the Box is hope.
what I meant was, it is an outrageous demand for him to ask the court to order her to make a forced organ donation (it’s hers now, he gave it to her) and I don’t believe a court would do so
on the other hand, if what he really wants is her money, she could call his bluff and say, ok, here’s the kidney, you don’t get any money
hard to imagine anyone would do that, though
it might make a good law school exam question
One of the greatest things my crazy (bipolar) mother insisted upon was that we never use the word “hate” in our speech, not even with regard to vegetables. We had to say “I don’t much care for that” instead. This has stayed with me all of my life so that I rarely feel the emotion of hate, I don’t even like to write the word. Whenever I feel anything closely resembling it I use my own mantra of “Love, Love, Love…” and I visualize all of the people and things (nature in all of its beauty) that I love, and the “ugly” feeling goes away. I try to do the same with anger and irritation, of course I am not always successful right away, but soon enough I feel calm and peaceful. I think this is one of the reasons I am never sick, although I have not always lived a totally “healthful” life in other ways. Hate is such a destructive force in the world.
If she needed a kidney transplant, she can’t afford to give it back at any price.
Some talking head on KO pointed out that Sarah was saying you betcha and winking way to much in the first debate. Sarah was acting trying to appeal to the GOP base and I think to establish her Common Women credentials.
A tape of Sarah talking in a normal conversation not like a cartoon character could hurt her Cred.
Hard to imagine this guy has any private patients.
? what, is he a doctor?
I blame it all on Katie Couric. Sarah had absolutely nothing to do with her screw-up.
Sarah is incapable of speaking intelligently since she is clearly not. I say this not to be mean spirited, but in blunt truth. I have watched many videos of her speaking and she always comes across as uneducated and not very intelligent, IMHO.
is what my local news said – and that the divorce has been going on for years
Exactly right on….
and don’t forget Barack Obama. I’m sure he had a hand in it.
and Bill Ayers and Reverend Wright, too.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Right, he’ll get his kidney back right about when she gets her virginity back.
g’nite neuro
Hypocrisy is such an amazing thing….
LOL!
Peace and sweet dreams neuro…
Hard to imagine he has a lawyer. Also ;-)
One would think this could put licenses to practice at stake.
I think she’s hiding Osama BL in her basement…
I think it’s 53% of us now, isn’t it? Single women over 50? It only makes sense. All of the married women I know envy me.
how bad is the cold tonight et?
You would think so wouldn’t you! ;-)
minus 4 F and blowing 20 knots. Almost balmy compared to earlier in the week. It is supposed to get back into the low 20s above by the end of the weekend. That will seem tropical.
Rainy at your Tilamook Bay nook?
My favorite part of that interview was where she acknowledged that she had not actually seen the show on TV after it was done but basically all but accused Katie and her minions of cutting and clipping it to put her in a bad light. Yeah right.
And she thinks she would have done much better if she had run as a Democrat. … … I’m having such a hard time wrapping my head around that one… …
Brain bleach please!!
Where are my manners?
Good evening Suz and everyone.
My point to my pontification at 133 above is that if all parents taught their children not to use the word hate, but instead to communicate their anger, frustration, and hateful feelings in a different way, the world would be a better place. I know it sounds simplistic, but think about it….
not as bad as washington state got hit. had some gusts last nite that had the old place creaking like a boat but losing power for 3 hours was the worst i had to deal with.
tomorrow, i’m headed into town to do some shopping. am hoping the north end of town has dried out enough that 101 is open. the wilson crested and is now receding.
hey loky – what’s new?
She is definitely a piece of work.
I agree with you. My daughter with 9-month-old grandson has become very aware of violence in all aspects of our childrens upbringing. She took him to storytime at the library and was appalled that all the stories were about hitting, killing things (bugs and snakes) and stuff.
So she went home and is now writing a series of books for very young children that celebrate nature and life and have activities to help kids learn about the world in a non-violent way.
That is very cool, definitely a way to a better future for our world!
that is so kewl loky
If children are taught from the very beginning of their lives not to turn to anger and hatred to express themselves, wow, imagine what could happen….
There would be a lot of exploding heads. G)
Yes, just imagine
When I was ten years old we moved to a new home and a new school. I said something to a girl who was the biggest bully in the school that pissed her off. She told me she was going to kick my ass after school. I called my mother to come pick me up so that I wouldn’t get beat up. My mother in response wrote a letter to the principal of the school about this girl and her threats, which my mother entrusted to me to deliver to the principal. I decided that if I gave the letter to the principal the girl would get in trouble and would still beat me up. I chose instead to speak to the bully and explain to her that instead of her getting in trouble and me getting beat up, I could throw away the letter and we might be friends. Surprise, surprise, it worked! She saw the logic in this simple solution and we became friends. If ten year old children can do this, why not grown ups?
1,882 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Suzanne and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
I’m reluctantly back from God’s little gift of paridise on earth, Negril Jamaica-man, and the great godess of geriatrics and irony gave me a big “heads up” while snorkelin’ with my youngest…found out so far that I’ve got some cardio-megaly but I think I’ve had it for a good while…the great smilin godess jest gave an old man a little kick in the ass ta tell me ta take some weight off and start ta endure growin old.
KEEP THE FAITH ANS PASS THE AMMUNITION, THE STRUGGLE GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Great song!
Growing older does indeed require some unwelcome, but necessary adjustments! ;-)
ohmystars norske – heads up about the ole ticker suck – and while on vacation snorkling! glad to hear you are doing ok – you are gonna do what the docs tell ya, right?
It’s so hard when so many forces are arrayed against parents trying to bring their children up that way. All us DFH’s tried, and look where we are now.
The DFH’s and their kids were right about the wars (both of them), the economy, everything – and the right-wing nutbags still demonize all the people who got it right!
Gandhi, MLK Jr, anyone who tries non-violence – even in their speech is viewed as cowardly and weak.
Even in this election cycle. McCain and crew did some of the most despicable lies and attacks and if Obama ignored them (which is actually the best way to do it) he was accused of being weak and spineless and told that if he didn’t respond he would lose.
And all the protesters at the RNC this year who were pepper-sprayed and tasered and arrested…
Don’t get me started on TV, video games, movies, etc.
I know it is not an easy sell, but maybe we need to learn how to sell it better? Maybe it needs to be sold in a package that works better for different kinds of people. Words and the way we use them can matter.
Sounds like you’re on the way already.
Keep it up.
My point is know your enemy, so to speak, and know how to speak to them. The way one speaks to those who already agree with you is not necessarily the best way to speak to those who are in vehement disagreement with you.
This is true. I have found that it is best to use mediation techniques and choices language when dealing with people who really disagree. Of course that assumes that one has had training in mediation and choices dialogue heh heh.
I think that is something that should be taught in school. Like in kindergarten.
Unfortunately, a lot of right-wingers seem so – I don’t know how to exactly put it – but they are very resistant to even that kind of approach. That is why the left has such a hard time dealing with them. We expect rational discourse and that if presented with valid and true facts they will derive a rational conclusion from those facts that is somewhat similar to their own. But it doesn’t happen.
The ‘left-behind Rockridge Group’ has been having discussions for the last 6 months trying to figure out how to talk to them to even begin to have some kind of common ground. But with a world-view that is so different so far we have not been successful, and we have all tried out all of our theories on actual people. With sometimes disastrous results.
[Oh look what turned up in my tab 2hrs after I put it there!]
Shemekia Copeland: the blues keeps on keeping on.
I guess my point is that you can’t be, or raise your children to be wimps who are seen as weak and victims, but instead “Warriors” of peace. We have to project strength and teach our children to project strength, but be advocates of peace. For example in my example of the bully in my tenth year above, I spoke to her not like a scared little wimp, but a kid who knew that if she beat me up, she would get suspended from school and probably get beat up herself by her parents. Why else is a child a violent bully if their parents are not? She understood what I was talking about and realized that I was right. If I got beat up by her, she would get beat up be her parents. Better to make nice with one another, but again I was not a whiney little wimp.
I saw Sophie today…my neighbors baby. She has learned to clap and roll the ball. We all clap (applaud together) now she caught on and is delighted about it all. The mom and dad are a family unit…mom is just over forty but quite athletic and good natured and a master gardener.
I left about half past seven and he said shalom…we had a nice conversation about Isreal how he felt close to Jerusalem and his past Bhudist experiences, his bar mitzvah. They understand how badly I feel about the way Palestinians have been treated. The resolution in the senate and house are not as bad as I first thought. The UN Security Council Resolution is good. And the peace conference in Cairo with Hamas, Isreal, France, England and Eygpt is encouraging. Shalom aleikum
A good activist friend died yesterday a Professor of Soil scientist and an ethics teacher I learned today. RIP Dr.Tom Ruehr you are well loved by many.
I thing you need to speak to bully’s in their own language. We need to understand what they are afraid of and hold up the mirror of their fears to their faces, so to speak. Detante of a sort.
i’m sorry for your loss bb.
That is so nice that you got to see the baby Sophie learn new things today. What a joy small children can be. I am so sorry to hear that you lost a friend yesterday, my thoughts are with you. The circle of life though, is truly amazing…..
It is like being an FBI profiler, put yourself in your enemy’s place. Understand their persona, what makes them tick. Deal with them from there, not from your place. I use the term “enemy” philosophically of course.
ok pups, time for my inner eyelid inspection. g’nite all and thanks for hanging out with me tonight.
nite suz
Peace and sweet dreams Suzanne. Thank you as always for hanging out with us tonight.
Tom gave a speech “Sewer Terrorism” at a townhall meeting that I conducted.
He was on fire. He was a conservative Presbyterian (not a fundamentalist).
It is really our loss not mine. Certainly his family and close friends are devastated at his an early death.
The Hemingway novel… “Each man’s death diminishes me, for I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee. ”
— John Donne
And so those that die in these wars are each our own loss.
It’s a problem of framing. They see the world and the things that happen in an entirely different way. Since I have never seen the world that way – and they do not know how to explain how they see the world – they cannot understand that I don’t see it in that way, and I cannot understand why they see it in the way that they do.
There was some interesting research out recently – I’ll try to find a link – but they tested a whole bunch of little kids startle responses and then followed them up years later to see how they came out. It was very interesting to say the least.
Kids with a very strong startle response – ones who become frightened easily and then are difficult to calm down, often crying for long periods and then still not really calm – wound up mostly as Republicans. They seem to need an authority figure to direct their lives. They also were very resistant to change in routines.
Kids with a low startle response – ones who were at first frightened but quickly calmed and who then became curious and wanted to investigate – wound up mostly as Democrats. They did not need this authority figure and were much more independent in their thinking, and of course more adventuresome and risk-taking in all aspects.
Night Suz!
Well said Loky Nite Suz Hope the little guy gets used to the wind shaking the house.
Unfortunately most human beings do not respond well to “our side vs. your side” mentality. We humans don’t like even the perception that “our” side “loses” in a negotiation. Instead what seems to work is letting them know that we know what they will actually lose in a failed negotiation. Of course we have to really know what they lose. If we know that we deal from a position of strength. In other words, knowing what your opponent can’t afford to lose and dealing off of that, puts you in a place to negotiate reasonably. Also not trying to crush your opponent, but giving them some dignity to take with them is helpful.
I saw this same study. I understand it well, as I have known both sorts of people. I have never scared easily myself, but I understand other people’s fears. I grew up as the oldest child of eight children and we all were very different sorts of people. Maybe this is why I have been able to mostly get along with all sorts?
Winner takes all strategies only work in violent, angry, and/or frustrated situations. Compromise is the only thing that ever works, but that compromise works best if done from a position of strength. Meaning understand your opponents strengths and weaknessess and make certain that they know you understand them.
This is the really hard part – because when someone has a world-view that is so different from yours it is almost impossible to really know that. You have to understand their world-view, and most people cannot even define what their own world-view is, let alone figure out what someone else’s is – especially if they come from these two opposing viewpoints.
I think that is why it is best to use people who have expertise in these areas. We need to understand our own strengths and weaknesses and utilize those people who are best suited to deal with these types of situations. They are amongst us….
And of course, when a person is operating from fear – even if they don’t know that this is the root of their world-view – they act in irrational ways. This irrationality is why for the most part, attempts at compromise and discussion between these opposing viewpoints are mostly unsuccessful. On the one hand you have someone who is trying to make rational suggestions – even ones that would be good for the opposition. But because they are coming from fear/irrationality, they cannot see that and view those suggestions as a trick or scam, or some kind of hidden attack.
Oh well. Gotta keep trying!
Attaturk is upstairs!
Enriching their legacy
Whatever else Obama is, or what anyone thinks of his cabinet choices or his political positions, I really believe he is one of these special people. That, and only that, is enough for me to trust him until we are proved different. I think his demeanor on the night of the election said more than words – no gloating, as if he very truly knew what a weight had just settled onto his shoulders.
Pictures of him holding children – and not just his own. The look on his face, and the care in his hands.
It’s enough.
Like I suggested above, there are people who are trained to deal with these types of issues/fears. We just need to set our egos aside and let those best trained and equipped for these situations deal with them. I think Barack Obama may just be a prime example of such a person, at least I hope so.
Great minds think alike…. ;-)
Thank you so much lokywoky for a spirited, intelligent and interesting conversation.
Ahh but is she saying you betcha all the time and winking?
I think they are nervous ticks ;-)
Might be a evidence of a brain disorder.
You have got to be right!
