In my 75 years Senator Reid is the most colorless Majority Leader I’ve seen. LBJ was an arm twisting political genius, albeit less than an angel. Mike Mansfield was a cold and calculating man, but effective. George Mitchell was brilliant, intelligent and fair minded. Each had strengths on which his President could depend. But poor Harry looks like Dagwood and sounds like Henry Aldrich (age denmonstration) and has about as much charisma as a park bench. Obama needs an agressive and attractive Senate Leader. One who can push and pull and get shit done. Wishy washy ain’t gonna’ work at this perilous moment. I think he knows it and I hope we see a new Senate Leader soon.

Gee, Ann, thank you. It’s always good to know that those of us who are liberal and vote for progressive-minded people like Barack Obama–and, yes, Harry Reid–are so open to comment. I hate to break it to you, but you are doomed to great disappointment if you think the next President is going to dance to your or Ms. Hamsher’s tune because we are right about everything and everybody else is wrong.

Now to the Senate rules. The governor AND the secretary of state of Illinois are supposed to sign the appointment. The former did; the latter did not. Technically, the Senate has every right either to seat Mr. Burris or to say it is going to bend that rule. The question becomes, is it politically worthwhile?

As to the criticism of Reid, I find it fascinating that everyone here knows that he’s terrible but has nothing to say about who should replace him and how they would have accomplished anything differently in the same set of circumstances. Let me quote Sam Rayburn: Any jackass can knock down a barn door, but it’s important to know how to build one. I see a lot of knocking here, but I don’t see any building going on, and that is not what we are supposed to be about–and it certainly isn’t what Barack Obama is all about.

For the same reason that Coultergeist cadaver goes on network morning programs. She attracts more attention there than on the regular beat of looselip losers. On Faux Noise, she’s just another bleating loon. With Lauer, she inspires millions to hate her who would never encounter her otherwise, and that’s the only passion to which she has access. She’s a simple troll, like this guy you’re replying to.

1) Why someone with so little respect for this site, its owner, and the other commenters here comes here to criticize instead of going somewhere with an ideological bent close to one’s own to comment.

I’m trying to figure out two things:

1. Why is Jane Hamsher mad at Harry Reid when he has TRIED to do just about everything we could want a Democrat to do, but been stymied by a Republican president, a Republican minority with enough votes to block him, Democrats who leave the reservation, an Independent gutless turncoat–and, in terms of ridding the Democratic caucus of that turncoat, a president-elect who wanted him forgiven. Do you remember that or are you too busy attacking Reid to know the truth?

2. Speaking of knowing the truth, you might try looking at the Senate rules and seeing how the place works before criticizing someone and demonstrating that what you know about what you are writing about would fit in a flea’s navel, and you’d still have room for George W. Bush’s brain and Dick Cheney’s heart.
