Canon in D, composed by Johann Pachelbel. This song always makes me think it should be background music in a cartoon, some idyllic forest scene…

Hi, Suz. How the heck are you?
evenin’ suzanne. me i’m feeling sick about how obama is proceeding and even sicker about the hideousness in gaza.
Suz!
hey tow – fair to middlin – how the heck are you?
hey spur – how’s the bay area tonight?
It has been pretty quite tonight at the late and associated islands….. How is everyone?
Doing ok, now that the holidays are over. And the northwest has retuned to it’s normal, wet, dreary state. That frozen tundra stuff is annoying as hell.
Suz…
Calm the waters.
Hi, Katymine! I’ve been thinking about you lately. How are you?
hey katymine – what’s up?
chilly and damp. but at least the holidays are over
this break from the grimness of wars is brought to you by pachelbel
twas my first frozen white stuff – after a week i was ready to drive again – i’m trying to go the season without using my chains.
love it
Chains are great, if you REALLY need to go somewhere. But for the most part, it’s best to not drive if it’s that bad.
A favorite — so love this. I bought my Dad a version that had ocean waves in it. Sure wish I bought one for myself!
Ok….. giving my update on the follow up on the Interlukin…..
Had my CT scans a week ago and yesterday Elmore and I went to the Oncologists to get the results…… The Interlukin didn’t work and the nodules in my lungs are bigger and there are more. I am being started on an oral chemotherapy drug (as soon as the insurance approves it and the drug store gets it in)……. It is called Sutent which is a targeted drug for Renal Cell CA and it stops the growth and could shrink the nodules.
The side effects are the normal GI ones and the funny ones is peeling of the palms and soles of my feet, can turn hair & nails orange …… but again…. I keep my hair….
was wondering what the reaction would be to this – not blues, not rock, not a cartoon.
fuck
and yeah! hair is a good thing
Hi everyone, good to see you. Nice music, Suz.:-)
i have a version on vinyl. i think the album is called going for baroque – the greatest hits of the 1600’s or some such – got it in the 70’s.
i have no idea who performed this version but it is sweet.
Yep….. my oncologist thinks I think FUCK is a greeting…… Of course it was pretty much the first thing I said to him with the first appointment after the CT in September……
FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK
Well, crap. But I’m glad there’s another drug to take, and you get to keep your hair. Sure, it’s not the most important thing when doing chemo, but it’s nice!
{{Katymine}}
Oh Katymine,
We are here for you. Breathe big, love.
(((katymine)))
Fuck is just about right.
But the hair – ok, good.
Suzanne’s youtube is helping…… Elmore is reading me about Pachelbel
I really can write a full sentence…… Elmore is telling me about Pachelbel
speaking for myself, a very nice addition
(((((katymine)))))
Dammit.
(((katymine)))
Like suz said, hair is good — even orange.
((katymine))
Maybe you’ll like this version, it’s called “Loose” Canon:
thanks spur
coordinate wardrobe? could be fun
My formerly brown hair is graying such that it looks like gunmetal.
So there :-)
Mine, too. I’m uber sad here tonight.
What an interesting version. Thanks, Margot.
love kicks sad’s ass. we got us some powerful love here at the lake. and soothing music with eye candy.
where the hell is petro and his forking breathing exercises?
So is mine so I’m wondering how those orange highlights are going to look…. just getting ready for Halloween 10 months early…..
And on the lighter side…
Rant on Pachelbel’s Canon
This song seemed to be playing all the time while I was watching the coverage of the MN recount on The Uptake.
Digg It for Johann Pachelbel who has brought this wonderful piece!
Then of course there is George Winston’s Version (:>))
i figure i’ve earned every forking one of my gray hairs – hell, if i were to be totally honest with myself, my entire head would be gray. i guess having more wrinkles from all that sun damage from working the street more than makes up for the lack of grey hair.
hahahahaha
thanks
Thanks everyone for the music….. love it…..
thanks for opening the digg dood
(((katymine)))
Just tell people you blog and it’s a cheetos thing.
This news sounds gnarly but perhaps darkest before the dawn I hope.
And I refuse to dye it, ahem also, ha ha! I am salt and pepper to a fault, so it shall be.
dugg!
falling asleep, dragging off to bed. nite all

I wish you the best Katy, My last visit and my doc said “We don’t need to see you for six months”. Whew, but I still have to have a CT scan on the 22nd and after see “The” surgeon to talk about what he thinks about the scan. So I am still in the Program for the transplant but no hurry unless…
good night…
g’nite spur
OK, that’s good. And welcome, haven’t made your acquaintance in Late Late.
I sort of like this song, but I always always think of Robert Redford’s Ordinary People when I hear it.
I think the worst thing about the whole thing is the waiting for the test results….. 6 days of wondering, worrying and trying not to go down those dark roads….. until you get the test results…….
Elmore has done some research on Sutent….. in it’s first clinical trials it worked so well that they started the placebo group on it.
that’e encouraging news katymine
Big love and peace to all tough and tender firepups.
I’m off to bed…hoping for the best for you, nahant and katymine.
peace.
Now to move on to another topic….. How was everyone’s New Year? Has everyone thawed out from all the storms? Anyone keeping their New Year’s resolutions?
Time moves slowest between a medical test and the results, even if it’s just a pap smear. Waiting 6 days for a ct scan would make me completely bonkers.
That’s fabulous news about Sutent. Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for you, Katymine.
so far i am spoiling myself – the bride and i spent yesterday afternoon celebrating our christmas and then we went shopping. i filled two shopping carts with stuff for the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen and was very pleased it all fit in my wee car.
I don’t make NY resolutions. If I get motivated to make a change, why wait until New Years to start? Right now I’m avoiding the gym. It’s always crowded in Jan, but by mid Feb most of the newbies will slack off and I can get on the elliptical again. ;)
Dang, that’s impressive shopping!
Was there any room for you to drive? That is a little car….
impressed the hell outta the bride. she knows how much i hate to shop and was very surprised when i suggested a shopping trip.
as i told her, this is the time that i’ve worked all my adult life for – if not now, when? even without keeping track, i did stay within my mental budget.
I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers Katy… seems many here at the Lake need some.
I’ve got silver streaks in my formerly med brown hair – pretty but make me look OOOOOld.
Best part is sometimes I catch a glimpse of my beloved mother when I unexpectedly come upon a mirror
just enough room on the front seat for my take home chinese food and some half and half for my coffee. and my purse. good thing i had the back seats let down. i still have 3 boxes of stuff and one ginormous shopping bag down in the car to lug up here.
Good night, all. Keep thinking good thoughts, and I will see you all soon.
Yes, Suz, I will be back more often now that things have calmed down. I don’t like being away from the Lake for long.
g’nite tow
OK, this is bad…
The Asian fellow who I see at the counter in the post office sees me come in the door, and he shouts “Jay!”
He thinks, with that hair, I look like Leno (who is a hump). I have to dissuade him vigorously.
Ok it is way past my bedtime and I stayed up special to talk to my late night buds…. thank you all for the support…… ever since this happened more than a year ago, FDL has been a source of support and diversion that has been greatly needed….
Good Night everyone……. sweet dreams and happy awakenings….

Hi WhenIsItEnough…here it’s Eastern time and late!
My new year’s resolution is to go to bed earlier.
Tomorrow.
My next resolution is to stop procrastinating….
once ya delurk, its hard to go back to being silent.
looking forward to hearing your voice.
Dont worry…there’s plenty of time to get those resolutions done! :)
you can do that one next year margot.
Why thank you…hope I have something to contribute :)
nice arrangement, nahant. I’m listening to it now. hadn’t heard it before.
some people complain when classical music stations play this piece because they have heard it so many times before. but I never get tired of it.
You can hear this played on 17th century instruments here–I’m the one with the shiny forehead.

All the fire pups need to keep the love pouring into your heart. Peace
way forking kewl shiny forehead, dr dave – i almost went with the original instruments version when i was searching the utube last nite but then i found the eye candy…
It’s my baby daughter’s fav. The youngest son used to take piano and she would make him play it whenever she visited home… He is in film now and she doesn’t make the request and she had it played at her wedding on the cruise to Mexico.. She now has three daughters herself!
Back from my first orchestra rehearsal of 2009.
Pachelbel’s Canon. When I played piano a lot (before I crushed my left hand in 1980) I was asked to play that sucker at weddings and funerals. Over the holidays, I was looking through piano music, and there it was. didn’t pull it out, though.
hey et – jen, my daughter that got married in may, walked down the aisle to this song. i did not know it was associated with weddings until hers.
Nice!(:>))
Is that a lute?
Please don’t go to bed earlier ;-)
hey sunny – how goes it on your end of the tubes?
It is not thr color of your hair it is your posture. Swiss ladies keep their spine curvature…no slumping. SIlas Marner…erect. Little stiff there just beutiful posture. Ah there you go. Very nice.
Thank you, Suzanne.
The Canon is indestructible music; I’ve never heard a version that was anything but beautiful. (I once had an album with IIRC seven versions on it.)
that album is on itunes iirc
That’s a keeper.
lol!~ Ok.
See how easy that was?;)
That, the slow movement to Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata, and Claire de Lune by Debussy were the most often requested, after the regular processional and recessional wedding marches by Wagner and Mendelssohn.
I’d get weird requests, sometimes, though
victor borge – what a treat et. i’ve not heard his clair de lune in years.
that IS bad..
Its funny how Rahm new at his job seems to have gotten so confident to go off the reservation with suspected leaks. Its almost like he has no worries about his job?
or else he is too arrogant to worry about his job
This is what we were rehearsing tonight - Roman Carnival Overture by Berlioz.
very dry. You keep on waiting for the gag…
Hey, I’m back in Hawaii from vacation on the mainland.
And I’m lovin’ Rachel Maddow’s take down of Feinstein and Rockefeller tonight on Accountability– or, as the web page lamely puts it, “Intel Showdown” This was the first segment on her show, and is an absolute classic, IMHO.
This was high quality TV journalism. Keith Olberman even interviewed her about it on his show. More like this, please! I like the way she interprets Panetta’s anticipated appointment as a rebuke to Feinstein and Rockefeller. Rachel also puts down the media kerfuffle about the Panetta announcement being a “misstep”. Rachel has it right, I think, and I hope! Her guest, Bob Baer, was also excellent.
This was the best segment on her show, and one of the best news show segments I’ve seen in a long time. Almost as good as an EW diary (heh.)
Obama is showing Washington that the New Kid in Town knows his way around the block. He is showing Feinstein that she will have to earn credibility as the new head of the Intelligence Committee; she can’t Lord it over Obama as if he’s a mere child.

Obama likes to play poker or so I have heard what poker player shows his hand?
When a poker player seems to be thinking about folding before the game/Congress goes into session like Obama seems to be doing to the GOP on tax cuts in the stimulus package I wonder?
Is it a set up?
well, I have listened to all of the versions of the canon posted here tonight, including the Loose and the Rant. thank you all for sharing them.
Wow! Thanks.
Agreed now I want her or KO to go after Holder.
rachael – one. of. us.
The families in Gaza need our help.
That’s a good question. He needs the stimulus fast and may have to make concessions. IMHO, he probably made them too fast.
Night Pups.. Our little Tucker has a 8am date with the Groomer and I have been told “It’s my Turn”… dam..
POOF!!!
Oh and if you haven’t do DIGG IT!
The GOP already is saying they will stop the stimulus package or at least they were before the tax cuts were announced.
We know the GOP plan is to stop Obama from passing anything so he won’t get credit for anything.
But what if thats the plan remember how the polls shifted after Newt shutdown the government?

Cold here – nasty new furnace guzzles power and doesn’t warm the place. But I’ve discovered long handles!
interesting, we seem to have stayed pretty much on topic tonight…even though we don’t have to. nice choice of “topic,” Suzanne.
What if Obama wants to say look I bent over backwards to reach a deal but the GOP won’t play. Obviously I can’t work with the GOP I was more than fair.
If the polls show that the GOP is getting the blame for government doing nothing to fix the economy then the GOP will cave just like they did after the attempt to shut down the government and impeach Clinton.
They very well might have had the votes to impeach with Joe Lieberman and other Blue Dog/DLC democrats.
But they back pedaled fast.
In such an environment the GOP worried about local fall elections would roll over for us rather than keep up the fight against the stimulus package and everything else Obama wants to pass.
The elections next fall are they just local or are there any House or Senate seats up for grabs?
I wonder if She broke DiFi ?
There is a topic on Late Late Nite?
She took a canon, and got our minds off of war for few minutes
no, actually the joke is that off topic IS the topic, but some people occasionally apologize for going off topic anyway…
Gotcha its been awhile since I’ve been here.
yikes – is there something you can do besides long handles? like a warranty or something?
nite all
I know that I am speculating here but Rahm going off the reservation publicly seems out of character.
Obama folding before Congress even gets into session seems like a trick when you got a good hand but pretend like your hand is bad to get the other guys to up the ante.
Remember that Bush and the GOP play the game by always upping the ante and asking for more their *cough* strategy is to ask for twice what they want so if after a Congressional fight if they end up getting half of what they ask for they get what they originally wanted.
Has Obama seen the weakness in this strategy does he want the GOP to reject his plan?
Does he want them to go to far? Congress has a low approval rating but the GOP in Congress has an even lower approval rating I read in Crooks and Liars recently.
GOP overreach could weaken them even more.
Good God. As I said, “indestructible music.”
Thanks.

Does anyone know if Levy even took Algebra like an electricians apprentice is suppose to before he gets hired?

May the long time lite shine on you and the light within you give you peace.
If I remember from Sat Chid Anada SF Ashram kirtan (1969) we sang over and over again…the little finger cymbals and lite hand drum music made a great background for our chorus of prayer. We wanted Peace. Remember Mahatma Gahdi before he was assasinated non violent resistance liberated India from Britain. “Tho’ I’ve belted you and flayed you, By the livin’ Gawd that made you, You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din!” Rudyard Kipling
How soon we forget Pakistan and India people with brown skin… again we want to kill them with our bombs.
I remember in junior high school Rudyard Kipling racism and colonialism in the South where I lived and in the poem in India now in Gaza, Iraq, Pakisatn and Afghanistan.
When will we ever learn. Yes we America is supporting genocide in Gaza. Shame on us.

He quit the apprentice program yesterday to concentrate on finishing school.
That’s brutal.
Will Sarah Palin pardon Levy’s mom before the wedding? Just what is the hold up? Imagine what Bristol could get for her wedding photos?
Just how much did she get for the baby photos?
Dale Carnegie is just what the doctor ordered. Just what Alaska needs – a dilettante.
I’m wondering how Sarah using clout to get Levy a job is affecting her polls?
Has anyone at fdl been commenting on this yet. From a very credible blog, mondoweiss:
I don’t think she had anything to do with it. Levi’s dad works for the firm that runs the program. She can’t fuck up everything by herself.
11th day of the Gaza bombings.
Engineers can’t tell a Union who to let in to the electrician program nor can a contractor.
Contractors and the Union face liability issues if anything goes wrong with the electronics and the client finds out they had someone unqualified on the job working.
Levy’s Dad might have convinced the contractor but the Union? Only if they were assured that Levy would do no real work until he passed the exam.
Pachelbel Canon in D Major, fantastic version
Well, so far, Levi’s dad is taking the blame, Palin’s spokes-eunuch is denying. More will come out, I’m sure.

The cavalry lays siege to a reservation, and uses the stone-age weaponry that comes flying out as an excuse for altillery bombardment, direct assault, and slaughter of these “savages.” Ethnic cleansing is ethnic cleansing. But its antisemitism to call it that if it is jews who are doing it.

It’s a theorbo, a large lute with bass strings.
Ten days is plenty to imprint terror on the inmates of Gaza prison that will last their abbreviated lifetimes. That is the point and goal of Israeli policy. A gun to Palestinian heads to force compliance with Israeli demands. Agree or die.
“May the long time sun shine upon you, All love surround you, And the pure light within you. Guide your way on.”
145 Katymine…this is the correct verses If you listen to the light within you and are true to it you will find your way.
Per Avi Shlaim:
Even this is bullshit! The Brits opened Palestine up to Jewish immigration to set up a countervailing force, to establish “a little loyal Jewish Ulster in a sea of potentially hostile Arabism.”
The bottom line is that when population A decides to build its national home where population B lives, they have three options regarding population B:
– assimilation
– subjugation, i.e., apartheid
– ethnic cleansing.
The first option was never on the table, and the next two are crimes against humanity.
I agree that is the Israeli plan but they have done this before and it has not worked. What makes them think it will work this time?
Attaturk is upstairs!

The answer is always that same: “Last time we weren’t brutal enough.”
Refraining from disputing your rendition of history, am sure it plays well somewhere. The most illuminating narrative I have is that of Robert Fisk’s The Great War for Civilization. Couple that with the scholarship of Norman Finkelstein’s Beyond Chutzpah documenting numerous atrocities denied by Israeli/Zionist propaganda and disinformation efforts. Between these two works, an effective filter for disinformation can be constructed. But then, that is what the writer states in his considered opinion.
Both books I’ve read and recommended. I’m re-reading parts of Fisk’s ponderous tome right now. You’re right, and wigwam has a valid point, too.
Per the Wikipedia’s entry on “divide and rule”:
I find wigwam’s POV a bit simplistic and abbreviated and distorted as a result. IIRC the Zionist movement caught the public imagination as early as 1900’s and there was Zionist immigration into the Palestinian Protectorate throughout the period 1900 to 1940’s. The end of WWII saw a massive influx of Zionists that overwhelmed the ability of Palestine to assimilate the foreign population being imposed through the British Protectorate. The British lost control of their protectorate when faced with Zionist terrorist groups, mentioned in the Guardian article. With the UN/US backed resolution creating Israel. The terrorists that usurped British Authority came into possession of the Israeli government, Britain washed their hands of the problem, the rest is history/propaganda/disinformation/myth/lies not necessarily in that order.
Clarification: The British Protectorate was a creation of the Versailles Peace treaty addressing the breakup of the Ottoman empire so the Palestinian Protectorate did not exist prior to the end of the Ottoman empire but was the negotiated agreement for administration of the territory in due course. IIRC the Zionists in Britain publicly lobbied their “rights” to return to Palestine which the Balfour addressed having limitations and conditions which were subsequently ignored by the Zionists. Fisk still has the narrative concerning the background and politics involved.
Everything you’ve said is exactly as I’ve understood it.
But through much of the 19th century and through the first half of the 20th century, Britain, a rather small nation, ruled a vast empire. To do so they leveraged their forces by setting up countervailing forces. They exploited local rivalries where possible and crated some where none previously existed. The Wikipedia entry I linked to has lots of instances, and it left out places like, for instance, Northern Ireland to which a protestant population was imported by the Brits.
Their opening of Palestine to Jewish immigration was born in large part of similar motivations on their part and as in so many other places it got out of hand and left a horrible legacy that lasted for another 50 years or more, e.g., South Africa, Ireland, Cyprus, India/Pakistan, and Israel/Palestine.
The I/P situation in 1948 was powder keg of Britain’s making, which Truman ignited by supporting the establishment of Israel, over State Department objections. (His reasons were obvious.)
Thanks for posting this Suzanne.
