Whether or not a business has a union or being a member of one isn’t the question.Alot of the problem i’ve seen with some workers is lack of production,or of any goals for advancement. I read some blogs on this topic yesterday, one read quote,”I may as well get a job at walmart”! Why do so many people think working at walmart is bad? It allows some great opertunities to those willing to work hard & obtain advancements. My girlfriend started there in 2002 at $7.40 per hour. She had advanced & worked nearly every position in the store, & in 6 years is now at $19.76 per hour. She is now highest non-white collar management in the store. Meanwhile, there are some that have been there for 6 years, still cashiers or stocking, making 10.00 an hour. They have tried to get her to go into the associates management program, which she has considered. Only reason she hasn’t,is she would have to work in another location,& we only live 2 miles from her current store. Co-managers, assistent managers, & store managers can make from 50k to 200k a year. Not to mention that working there gives other good benifits! So quit whinning about walmart! Thanks Gerry

What a massive disappointment Obama has been!! I know…I know…give the guy a chance after all he he has yet to be sworn in!! My apologies, but I just can’t do that. From his capitulation on FISA, immunity for the telecoms, support for the Bush/Paulson Banking Bailout…etc!! This guy is Republican through and through…right down to his so called stimulus packages AKA “trickle down Regeanomics!” Remember that? This guy is basically a lying, FRAUD whom I unfortunately supported wholeheartedly! Never again will I support this pathetic Democratic Party!! NEVER!

The good news is that if the corporate employers get their wish, fewer and fewer people will be working in this once great manufacturing country and unions won’t be a problem. Of course no one will be able to afford the crap built in third world countries either.

Republicans: We’re for “States Rights” when it’s convenient and fits our views. Therefore let us allow the states to undercut the Employee Free Choice Act. But let a state dare to propose LGBT rights and we’ll be so against “States Rights” so fast, you won’t know what hit cha.

All congress critter should be reminded of their use of secret ballots when choosing heads of committees or House and Senate leaders. Seems fear of political retribution and retaliation some, from their own parties motivates the need for a secret ballot. Double standards of hypocrites are the norms here in America and for those raping this nation and its people.

Fine, you want secret-ballot elections, you can have secret ballot elections. Schedule the goddamned election within 10 days of the request for certification, hold it off site and under NLRB supervision.

I have to give Steny Hoyer credit for calling Chris Wallace right out of the box on using the right-wing frame for EFCA. Although I do wish he hadn’t separated the stimulus program from EFCA — ensuring strong union membership is an integral part of rebuilding the middle class in this country, and Democrats should link the two whenever we can.
