I have this horror of finding myself in the midst of battle. I heard too often of my dad’s grandma living through the battle of Atlanta as a small child… and going out to pick anything usable from the dead lying on the battlefield.

There was an interesting interview on Olbermann tonight with Hillary Mann Leverett, a former member of the National Security Council, who said that, while the Clinton name may be “magical and influential to some extent in Israel,” there is concern in the region that Clinton and the advisors she brings with her, Martin Indyk, Dennis Ross, and Ken Pollack, whom she called “neocon fellow travelers,” will soon make us long for the Bush days. I share her concerns. Hillary herself as well as her chosen advisors are owned by Haim Saban, the Israeli billionaire who brought us the Power Rangers and who said: “I’m a one-issue guy, and my issue is Israel.” His is founder of the Saban Center for Mideast Policy at the Brookings Institution, of which Indyk is the Director and Pollack is the Director for Research. Michael O’Hanlon is also an associate. IMHO “neocon fellow travelers” is a gentle description.

Saban was a major fund raiser for Clinton’s campaign and his obvious grip on her was one of the reasons I voted for Obama, to no avail it turns out; we’re still going to have a mideast policy run by zionist neocons.

His father, Kevin Johnston who is an engineer for the north slope company has publicly stated that he is the reason Levi was in the program. Panetta’s prior statements about torture and wiretapping make me hopeful that accountability is on the way. But Feinstein and Rockefeller’s reactions make me downright optimistic.

Blood is red, one of the plagues in Egypt turned the water to blood which has been blamed on a red tide so I made a connection in my head.
Anyway rapid growth consumes all the oxygen in the water resulting in dead fish.

The Johnsen nomination makes me wonder if the Holder nomination isn’t motivated by a desire to be unobtrusively hands on re: the Justice cess pool.

EuCom deploys radar, troops to Israel

U.S. European Command has deployed to Israel a high-powered X-band radar and the supporting people and equipment needed for coordinated defense against Iranian missile attack, marking the first permanent U.S. military presence on Israeli soil.

More than a dozen aircraft, including C-5s and C-17s, helped with the Sept. 21 delivery of the AN/TPY-2 Transportable Radar Surveillance/Forward Based X-band Transportable, its ancillary components and some 120 EuCom personnel to Israel’s Nevatim Air Base southeast of Beersheba, said sources here and in Stuttgart, Germany.

Among the U.S. personnel is at least one representative from the Missile Defense Agency, although officials said the agency had little to no say in the deployment decision. MDA involvement has been confined to providing equipment and advice on technical aspects of its deployment, one official said.

The Raytheon-built FBX-T system is the same phased-array radar that was deployed to northern Japan with the U.S. Pacific Air Forces in 2006. The high-powered, high-frequency, transportable X-band radar is designed to detect and track ballistic missiles soon after launch.

Its ancillary gear included cooling systems, generators, perimeter defense weaponry, logistics supplies and dozens of technicians, maintenance specialists and security forces to operate and defend the U.S. installation.

EuCom has repeatedly deployed troops and Patriot air defense batteries for joint exercises and Iraq-related wartime contingencies but has never before permanently deployed troops on Israeli soil.

US troops are helping Egypt prevent “arms smuggling” from tunnels in the Rafah border-crossing, as Israel continues its attacks on Gaza.

NBC anchorwoman and chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell said Sunday that US military officers from the Corps of Engineers had been stationed on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing in order to prevent “arms smuggling from illegal tunnels” by Palestinian fighters.

“ And there are US Army Corps of Engineer personnel on the ground right now on the Egypt side looking at the tunnels to see how Egypt could be reassured that there won’t be continued smuggling through on that,” she said on Meet the Press.

The US and Israel say the tunnels are used for smuggling arms into the Gaza Strip. Israeli warplanes have bombing the Rafah border to destroy the tunnels.

Tunnels between the two sides of the Rafah border crossing have been almost the only way for Gazans to obtain food and medicine after Israel besieged the costal strip in mid-2007, after Hamas took control of the region.

And likely been bribed, blackmailed, or otherwise compromised? Illegal wire tapping was going on before 911.
