Bugs!
Suzanne!
neuro!
Hey, it’s a SuzToon!
Suz! That video downstairs was gruesome…! 8-(
Digg!
hey newton - better than a snoozetoon?
I think I am going to turn off CNN’s coverage of the Gaza invasion and watch the ‘toon…
sounds like a good plan neuro
tonight is a nite for some serious sanity restoring and bugs is a sure fire way to start it
Hey Newt, Suze. How ya doin?
:-P
hey that guy - i’m zoning out to bugs - how are you doing?
I’m stoned on Tramadol. The pain shifted to a different tooth. Ow.
OK. How are things @ casa de axeman?
hey ct - i did warn ya
thanks for opening the digg neuro
I’m leaving all tv news, and just have FDL, DK, and Truthout for news. I just can’t take any television right now. And I’ve found a FICTION book, thanks to FDL: Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (am only on page 17).
Newt, I get more than a year of UI comp with the federal extensions and J still has her job, and she’s sticking with me. Third time was the charm, man, I got me a goodun this time. Two weeks and we’ll be on the Delbert Cruise, our last extravagance as we sink into a depression.
hey christine e
fiction - i love take me away books - i used to read fiction all the time and was a real stephanie plum fan but am so far behind now
That’s a nice looking trip.
Ultimate Delbert-fan retreat.
the blues cruise? *sigh*
You and Siun did…! What a shame that the Israelis are not allowing that footage to get out and show the world the carnage they’re wreaking…!
Not BLUES cruise, the DELBERT Cruise. THough a lot of it IS blues this year.
Sigh!!! I used to be addicted to Olbermann and Rachel, but since the election, I simply no longer feel that I have the time. (Which, of course, I didn’t before the election. But hey!)
Bugs made a face that reminded me a lot of Alan Alda…
I’m just getting back into some fiction. Rereading some stuff I read 20 years ago by a former fence rider in Australia in the 30’s. Guy named Author Upfield.
Hey Suzanne,
My MOTHER told me this holiday that if I don’t get back to reading fiction that she is going shake me down! After a nice discussion here on FDL, I found Ms.CE’s fiction shelf (sniff, empty nest…) and she told me to READ this book. She has just read the next one by Susanna Clarke.
Arthur Upfield…
since you are a huge delbert fan, that is probably the best thing ya could do that guy - that cruise is tonic for your soul
g’evening Suze & Pups. what’s on my mind tonight? Hypothyroidism. Doing lots of online research.
i have graves disease and was radiated to make me hyper since hyper is treatable and hypo is not.
Hiya Newt,
I have had a terrible time reading fiction since 9/11. The one book that I’ve read, and reread two times is “The Time Traveller’s Wife” which was also talked about here on FDL recently. And I have some translated Emile Zola that I bought years ago that I need to read. Go FICTION.
Yeah, tonic for the soul is about right. I just hope the worst of my dental shit is fixed by the time we go.
Jeez, you’re right. It has been about that long for me, too.
the shorter Frank Rich
from turkee to Turd, duckin’
i haven’t read fiction really since i retired. i used fiction to counter the day job’s seriousness - to take me away for a while. i should start to read more but then, that would require some time away from the keyboard.
Wanton disregard for signed contracts? Drug use? Vile hallucinations? Male semi-nudity? Bondage? Cross-dressing? Attempted murder?
That’s not a cartoon, that’s a G.O.P. convention.
;>)
NDFG, my wife has hypothyroidism… They prescribed Synthroid for it and it has alleviated many of the symptons…
wicked evil laugh
ya totally nailed it db
yeah, love me some Frank Rich
i am among the 5% who can’t handle the synthetic - i’m on the old fashioned stuff - dessicated pork thyroid. takes about 10 minutes with a calculator to figure out the dose but my internist got it right and the dose has not had to be adjusted since.
yikes. well, what i seem to have learned so far is that my problems may be alleviated by medication, and that most of the females in my bloodline older than me are already on thyroid med. Nice of ‘em to warn me! *g*
Yeah, Mr.CE would like that here, too! Away from the keyboard.
I was thinking more of this:
Who would have thought?
i was the first to be diagnosed in my family. now, one of my aunts and her daughter both have it and i hear some other of my mom’s kin have been diagnosed since.
Extremely tired tonite… I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
aloha ct
Anyone else have books to recommend? Old, or new? Sorry, am I OT?
LOL…my mom had the same conversation with me, We compromised and I’m enjoying ” An Ocean of Air” by Gabrielle Walker. Awesome!!!
I adore applied science in a human story. Told by a young woman who is fascinated with the progression of knowledge, passionate and a good writer.
i’m gonna find the stephanie plums and catch up.
i’m also gonna find and reread the handmaiden’s tale and see what else is out there.
my resolution this year is to be better to myself
Chris, I was just looking up The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins to recommend to you (and to anyone who likes a good read).
I’ve never had a copy but I think I’m going to order one, instead of getting it at the library. I’ve re-read it a couple of times and am feeling like I need to read it again.
and the turkey was fake, like much of the Bush “administration,”* right?
* see: fake “disaster relief management,” fake “foreign policy,” fake
“financial regulation,” fake “environmental protection,” fake “upholding and defending the Constitution”…
night CT
hey margot
My Mom is 84 years old, and she loves the library! We talked and talked this Christmas about reading — after all I’m a reference librarian, and she really took me to task about being too involved in politics and not reading for pleasure. When I told her that I had NO pleasure until Obama was elected, she demured. And then fought me for NOW.
Reading for pleasure is what keeps me sane!
Hey Margot!
I will seek out the MOONSTONE.
Let’s hope I can get back into fiction — my reading this am with Jonathan Strange was very rewarding (and if the ice storm predictions are true, I’m not getting out of bed all morning!).
well there ya go - a perfect sunday morning, reading and lounging about in bed. all ya need is for mr ce to bring ya breakfast in bed and you are set :)
Have you read Barbara Kingsolver? She is really, really great! Her novels include, Animal Dreams, The Bean Trees, Pigs in Heaven, The Poisenwood Bible, Prodigal Summers, among others. Try it you’ll like it!
LOL CNN coverage of anti-Invasion of Gaza demonstration in London: lots of shoes being thrown…
oh, yeah, one of the ostensible rationalizations for Bush’s Iraq invasion was to spread peace throughout the Middle East…
Oh dear heavens, Suzanne, Mr.CE has brought me breakfast in bed for 33 years. Every morning I get tea and breakfast. Asked about it,Mr.CE just smiles.
my local news showed some footage of that - i loved all the shoes over the barricades holding back the crowd.
perhaps tomorrow morning you will be surprised with mimosas
‘parently not only is shrub a cretin, but he’s also so irrational that nobody can figure out how he actually makes decisions about anything. Newsweek piece on the “Enigma in Chief”
http://www.newsweek.com/id/177420
Historical. Hysterical.
I promise if you are a woman and you don’t love Barbara Kingsolver’s books I personnally will refund your money, she is that good. I am always reading something. I read at least two books a week. These are great!
OK, which book had the insects on the endpages… which book was about three women surviving? It is very late…
33 years - wow. that is wonderful. when baby girl was about 8ish, she started bringing me a cup of coffee when she came in to wake me up. that cup of coffee made me feel so loved - what a great way to start each morning.
Mr. CE sounds like an amazing Mr. You are very blessed indeed!
books are never OT as far as i am concerned! My mom is a retired librarian, and keeps all her children and siblings informed as to what she’s enjoyed reading lately and then kindly lends out her books. And her tastes in books suits me fine. So, week before christmas i read Shadow Divers and couldn’t put it down. My daughter started it and took it home. I’m currently rereading Barbara Tuchman’s The Guns of August while waiting for my mom’s copy of Three Cups of Tea.
late late nite is where off topic is the topic :)
I thought I was going to be homeless not long ago so I gave my library of books to the local library, about 40 boxes of books. Broke my heart. I came out okay, but my books were donated. I know the three sisters were the Poisonwood Diary, the book with the bugs, I’m not sure about exactly.
I am, very. We have an amazing love for books and history. And food and travel. We have lived out of thrift shops, and traveled to Europe to see amazing things. And we have two amazing adult children whom we adore. And I have survived these last years on FDL. Couldn’t live without this site.
i pared down my books to about 10 or 20. they are in boxes in the pod along with all my cookbooks. gotta get through the winter here at the coast before i order up the pod. there is a shiny new library in town that i haven’t checked out yet… gonna have to do that sometime next week.
it’s been great to have you, and so many others, here, Christine. we weathered those years together.
I’m with you. This site, more importantly the people on this site, have helped me get through a very tough time. I’m okay for now but you folks have given me hope and light….
Suzanne, your guidance through late nights has been a very special light for me, thank you.
Just take two unpaid bills to the local library and they will sign you up (they just want your current address).
Thank you, dear!
tis a two way street sophie - i could not have gotten through the year and a half it took to sell the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods without the support of the readers here.
Hey Suz, I love Stephanie Plum novels too.
Amen. I don’t know what I’d do without you all.
Thank goodness you did because I personally have appreciated all of your late, late night adventures here. Suzanne, you are the best!
i think ten big un’s was the last one i read.
Oh, If I could just whistle and dance at the same time, like Holiday Inn.
Thank you all here at Suzanne’s Late Late Nite. I still have a fire and maybe looking for a “late nite” glass of wine.
*blushing* it really is a team effort sophie. lurk and the rest of the backstage crew make it easy. es and i just have to find the right thing to post for the pups.
You all do a very incredible job. The people who visit here are a huge part of the success. What a treat to get to know you all.
and that goes for you, too, sophiehunter. :)
neurophius, thank you, you are a special part of late, late nite here at the lake.
now we have our group hug for the nite - did anyone make a ny resolution or am i the only one?
Any interest in the tea house fox?
Hell, is this Oprah?
Anyone see the game today?
was wondering where all the male types went (laughing)
i haven’t had much time or opportunity to hang out at late night the last half year or more, but i have found great comfort in the community that endures here. And it is always a pleasure to come back and find humor, camaraderie, compassion and snark enduring. Suze is a wonderful heart for the LateLate Nite Pups.
I blitz away to catch some SportsCenter™ and…
I hope I didn’t scare anyone off. I never became homeless, although I came close. I live in a three bedroom, two bathroom home in the best weather in Southern California, by myself, so I must be doing alright. No one needs to feel sorry for me, I saved myself. If anyone know anyone who needs a place to stay during the oncoming financial debacle, let me know. I want to help folks who fall on hard times survive through them.
Nite Suzanne! Group hug, I have to read more fiction, and work harder at my job. Niters!
*ahem*
it’s late. good nite, all.
Peace and sweet dreams Christine, Happy New Year!
Peace and sweet dreams neurophius, Happy New Year!
g’nite christine e
sophie, there are many here who have come close to homelessness or are facing that possibility now.
g’nite neuro
nite chris, neuro
Pads and helmets pretty soon -
Confirmation hearings start this week, including Daschle (HHS) on Thursday, Hilda Solis (Labor) on Friday, and Arne Duncan (Education) the following Tuesday.
monday morning a lot of sleeves are gonna get rolled up as we settle back down to business.
That is why I am offering my home to nice people who are in trouble through no fault of their own.
And everyone’s favorite - Eric Holder (AG) on Thursday the 15th.
It’s Suzanne’s first 2009 Saturday late-late-night at fdl!
Minus 7 F and blowing 20 knots. That is cold.
I just posted a rather tedious Oxdown Gazette diary on the Levi Johnston apprenticeship story.
forking cold et - brrrr
Friggin’ priceless, ET!

Read your article ET, great reading!
That Fagan seems like a rather steely Dan.
Ya know, I saw the title of this post and thought it was another one about Dennis Prager’s sexual abilities. Happy to be wrong!
I’ve got to be careful how I deal with his obesity, because I have many close friends who are also overweight. But If you ever hear him brag to his “set-up girl” on the air about his athletic prowess, manliness, etc, well, he’s a large, slow-moving target.
LOL!
dammit, that was a fresh cup of coffee… laughing
did my spilled cup kill the tubes?
Very late arrival. Evening all.
Suz, trying to catch up I quit at your Evanovich note. I have To the Nines (’03) and Eleven on Top (’05) in HB. They need a new home. If you want them, e-mail me.

Quick comment by to send hugs and smiles to MY Fav Suz up in Ory Gone . . .
And to add, this Larue has also gleaned insight, peace and general mayhem and good brain food from these Late Late Night Expeditions here at Da Lake . . .
In exchange, I offer The Quebe (kway-bee) Sisters Band, from Fort Worth, TX.

G’nite, Suz, hello Sandman . . . *wavesbuhby*
Oh, have to PS, Suz . . . great, GREAT Bugs Toon Tonite . . . as always, loaded with behind the scenes humor and snark of the real world of our lives, be it then, or now . . .*G*
thanks and g’nite larue - i do try to make the music or toon somewhat topical. usually its more subtle than tonight’s offering.
time for me to mosey off pups. g’nite all and thanks for hanging out with me tonight
Good morning, if anyone is up.
I am. Kind of. Blustering winds woke me up.
yo
Good morning demi & Raven.
demi, we had winds yesterday, almost all day. I was going to do some outside work as it was around 30, but the wind chill made me stay inside. Winds have died down now.
Did you see that I returned from my relatives intact, except my gloves dropped either in the car or the road as I was getting out at the train station. Thanks for asking. *g*
Do you know the exegesis of that term?
‘Cause I don’t. Wondering.
There’s an hysterical program on cspan2, a book quoting all the “experts” on their prognostications about the Iraq war.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yo
Saw that. :( Hope they weren’t very expensive gloves. We don’t have much need for gloves here, but I break mine out from time to time.
A couple of weeks ago, we had actual snow, white stuff on the tops of the hills here. First time in the 5 years I’ve been here. Long story short, I was without a vehicle for three days in a row…got total cabin fever. It’s 2 1/2 miles to the nearest anything. I bundled up, packed a little shoulder bag and headed out. The walk down the hill was easier than the walk back up. Took me four hours, including the stop to eat a burger. But, it was a wonderful experience. The snow, the coyote, the ccccold freshness. Took a book and sat in the park for a while too.
There. That’s my glove story. :)
Not expensive. Fleece type fabric that’s lightweight & warm. Think I bought them from a catalogue, while ordering other winter stuff. Have substitutes.
BTW, demi, your story is great. It’s always nice to take full advantage of a weather experience.
Thanks. Besides what the wiki says, it occurs to me that it’s also used as a shorter “you”. Hey, yo, whatcha doing? Like that? The article doesn’t mention it, but it does make sense to me.
Yes, I thought that it started as a slang for ‘you’ too.
It’s interesting when you get your nose out of a blog where everyone knows everything (or at least the collective here does) and talk to “real Americans.” Whomever of my relatives I was talking to knew wiki existed, but had no idea how it came to be and that it was open source, able to be edited by anyone. I would have thought that any alert person would know that, since there have been so many wiki controversies.
Hey, yo! Funny how it takes a coupla blondes to come up with the obvious.
Yer funny about the “everyone knows everything”. Ha!
I once sent Fox an email, thanking them for giving new life to dumb blond jokes.
I think people forget how limited the blog communication can be. Without context, verbal inflection and such. Though, some of us have taken the time to get to know each other better, and then that helps. Remember the night Someone said He thought my uppity comment had racial slur tones? C’monnnnnn. I find that I do get misinterpreted here. But, you piped in with, I didn’t read it that way. And, I thank you for that.
Did you see the list of new definitions posted at PUAC this am? Some were hilarious.
I’ll go find it…brb.
Morning all, 12 degrees here with light snow. Need to make coffee then all will be ok.
388 hrs & 44 min
Yo welcome.
Moving upstairs.
Good morning, pups. It’s Kristof and Rich today in the NYT. MoDo and The Moustache of Wisdom are off. Nicholas Kristof, in “If This Isn’t Slavery, What Is?” says anyone who thinks it is hyperbole to describe sex trafficking as slavery should look at the maimed face of a teenage girl, Long Pross. Frank Rich, in “A President Forgotten But Not Gone,” says you start to pity George W. Bush until you remember the vast wreckage that stretches from the Middle East to Wall Street to Main Street. Speak for yourself, Mr. Rich. I don’t pity the bastard and I never will.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got French toast with either Vermont maple syrup or spiced apple syrup. All the idiots will be out on the road today here. A thick fog seems to draw them, and we’ve got a pea souper today. Have a grand day.
Elliott’s up with Talking Heads.
