Happy New Year, CTuttle, from southern Ontario. Heh. I’m just up; you’re probably toddling off to sleep.
The first video foretold the next eight years. The MSM lied by their omission of not showing the truth of the mass protest against Bush. The ‘Bush lied’ and ‘God help us’ signs were true then, and true now. MSM protects Bush, he lies, and God knows the world needs help to try and repair what he has done.
The UN takes up resolution calling for immediate Israeli ceasefire..
Libya’s draft resolution from the Arab League to the UN Security Council emergency meeting calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
The drafted resolution “strongly condemns all military attacks and the excessive, disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force by Israel, the occupying power, which have led to the death and injury of scores of innocent Palestinian civilians, including women and children”.
It also calls on Israel “to scrupulously abide by all of its obligations under international humanitarian law, particularly under the Geneva Convention relative to the protection of civilians in time of war”.
“This resolution as currently circulated by Libya is not balanced and therefore, as currently drafted, it is not acceptable to the United States”, US ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad told reporters.
The US continues to back Israel…I’m shocked; shocked I tell ya.

Jan. 6th is the 1st day of Congress. I encourage you to join those of us who plan to greet Congress with a March of the Dead, making manifest and showing to those responsible the hidden meaning of wars in 3 foreign lands: Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine. Perhaps a few members of Congress might have an epiphany.
Long-distance genocide rarely results in so much as a shoe thrown in someone’s face, and the dead are by definition unheard from, and by the US corporate media unheard of. We aim to change that. We plan to march with death masks and carrying the names of those killed during the illegal US occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan and those killed with US weapons during Israel’s illegal assault on Gaza.
We will demand that the 111th Congress end the terror of war, remove US troops and mercenaries from Iraq and Afghanistan, stay out of Iran, Pakistan, and Syria, and cease providing weapons for the destruction of Palestine. We will create a presence on Capitol Hill that it will be impossible to ignore. Perhaps we will even bring 12 drummers drumming.

Good morning, pups. Gail Collins and Roger Cohen are off today. Mr. Kristof, in “The Evil Behind the Smiles,” says as long as 14-year-old girls are being jolted with electric shocks to make them smile before sex tourists in Cambodia, the abolitionist cause for slavery has not been completed.
If you were stumped by any of the questions in yesterday’s quiz, the answers can be found here.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve just taken a big pan of cornbread out of the oven, traditionally eaten on New Year’s Day in the south, along with black eyed peas and greens. Help yourselves — I’m not a huge fan of collard greens, so I’ve also got cabbage or spinach as alternatives. Have a grand New Year’s Day.

Good morning & happy New Year to everyone.
Mornin’, gang -
And may the new year be a better one around the world.
Good morning all with a hearty dash of Happy New Year.
Other than Marion in Savannah’s daily litany of NYT self inflicted disasters, I wonder what remaining tricks of legerdemain this administration has in it’s bags to leave us in shock and awe … maybe, that shouldn’t be asked.
Somewhere, some crud (flu) crossed my path, and 2009 can only be better at this point. Should there be any shortness of disposition, attribute it to the crud. ;-)
NASA details final moments of Columbia shuttle crew
The crew of the doomed space shuttle Columbia tried to regain control of the stricken craft in the moments before it broke up during re-entry but lost consciousness “within seconds” due to rapid depressurisation in the cockpit, according to a second NASA report into the disaster, which claimed the lives of seven astronauts.
The report makes 30 recommendations for improving equipment and training.
Since the accident, NASA has flown 11 shuttle missions and has 9 left in its schedule.

Heh. R guest on WJ (rebuildtheparty.com) had about 8 number one priorities for 2009.
It’s hard to believe that engineers would not have worked under the assumption that an astronaut might very well be unable to consciously deploy and designed accordingly.
the year Bush goes home.
If George W. had been an honest, mature, intelligent man who took his Presidential oath seriously, there probably would not have been a left blogosphere, or at best a feeble, uninfluential one. Lets at least give him credit for motivating the development of this powerful medium that we all enjoy so much.
Morning Swim is upstairs…
You are such a great hostess….always nice to start the day with you. Happy New Year, All you dogs.
Thanks for all you and AfterDowningStree.org do, Bluebutterfly. I’m a long way from DC but I’ll do my best to donate during ‘09.
The most awesome, attention getting sound I can imagine would be that of 12 Bassets Baying. Anyone who has heard the deep-throated sound of one hanging in the air knows that sound cannot be ignored. Maybe Mr.&Mrs. TBogg could arrange a recording.
Best of New Years to you and yours and all the Jan 6 marchers!
I opened the DIGG and commented there.
Thanks, Attaturk. Happy New Year to all the pups at FDL.
