Govt. Mule keeps on Rocking In The Free World, with Josh Clark of Tea Leaf Green at Mountain Jam 2007. We at Late Late Nite FireDogLake plan to keep on rocking in the New Year.
What’s on your mind tonight?
Art. 2. In addition to the provisions which shall be implemented in peace-time, the present Convention shall apply to all cases of declared war or of any other armed conflict which may arise between two or more of the High Contracting Parties, even if the state of war is not recognized by one of them.
The Convention shall also apply to all cases of partial or total occupation of the territory of a High Contracting Party, even if the said occupation meets with no armed resistance.
Although one of the Powers in conflict may not be a party to the present Convention, the Powers who are parties thereto shall remain bound by it in their mutual relations. They shall furthermore be bound by the Convention in relation to the said Power, if the latter accepts and applies the provisions thereof.
Art. 3. In the case of armed conflict not of an international character occurring in the territory of one of the High Contracting Parties, each Party to the conflict shall be bound to apply, as a minimum, the following
provisions:
(1) Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, colour, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria.
To this end the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons:
(a) violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture;
(b) taking of hostages;
(c) outrages upon personal dignity, in particular humiliating and degrading treatment;
(d) the passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court, affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples.
(2) The wounded and sick shall be collected and cared for.
An impartial humanitarian body, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, may offer its services to the Parties to the conflict.
The Parties to the conflict should further endeavour to bring into force, by means of special agreements, all or part of the other provisions of the present Convention.
The application of the preceding provisions shall not affect the legal status of the Parties to the conflict.
Well, perhaps in 18 days we can rejoin the free world.

All persons or countries have the “right to defend themselves”.
Peoples do not have the right to violate this Geneva Convention.

Hey Suze… i been away. who won the protest song contest this year?????
the year is only one day old bfl – we ain’t had a poetry contest this year.
A month and an hour until my B’day.
There is a saying…What goes around comes around.

Haey, BFL! How’s life in Ekan Semenole?
i meant for 2008
Hey Suz!

Came up the other day in the thread about Lil’ Debbie’s replacement who takes over on my b’day.
‘Came up’…? *g*
Snowing and upper 20s here, which is really pretty nice for western Montana. Went walking out along the river near where I go fishing this afternoon. As you can see, it was absolutely gorgeous.
*laughing* i learned a long time ago that is impossible but i still try
that’s some serious eye candy there dood
Evening Nahant…wishing you and Julie a healthy illness free year. Same with CT and his wife…how’s the foot doing?
Happy New Year everyone!
DrDick, are you familiar with whitewater rivers in Montana? I’m looking for recommendations, class 3-4 Mid-June to early July
Stitches are out, still sore and itchy for her tho…! ;-)
hey mmb – you back in the freezing midwest again this holiday season?
DrDick,
Those are beautiful photos. We’ve had three inches (hah, what a laugh!) and temps in the mid 20’s. Am waiting for 30 inches. Ho hum here. Saw Slumdog Millionaire today.
Hey Suz! Hap noo yr!
NAW, now we’re in the freezing mountains of SoCal, in Idyllwild. Not so freezing now, really. 60 today and teh snow is almost gone.
How you?
I am very lucky to get paid a decent (not great, but decent) salary to live in a place like this.
tis wet up here on the oregon coast – supposed to get windy again tonight (had gusts of 40 last nite) – had 3″ of rain in the last 24 hours and more on the way.
Christine, how did you like Slumdog?
yeah – i keep looking for the ‘catch’ to living at the peaceful retreat on the bay.
Thanks BB we are hoping for a little less excitement around here in 2009… 2008 was not very friendly to either of us.
Not actually in Montana, but just over the border in Idaho. The Lochsa River (the other side of Lolo Pass just south of Missoula). Mid-June is the perfect time most years. I have rafted it twice and loved it. Lots of big water and gorgeous scenery. Several rafting outfits work the river.
Shocked at first — no one told me that there would be torture. But, after thinking about it for the last six hours, it is great. It is a LOT to think about. We cried at the end.
I can help with that.
You’re programmed to feel guilty about living in beauty, while *others* you know are surrounded by asphalt on all four sides (cough, cough).
If I were you, I would let it go.
The Alberton Gorge on the Clark Fork River and some stretches of the Blackfoot River just outside of town have some decent 2-3 whitewater (some spots might almost hit 4 in a good year). Mid-June is the time you usually want to do it around here, though it varies somewhat.
Ah, the Lochsa! I remember it well. Daddybrain and I honeymooned there too many years ago. Loved it,but then everything was pretty rosy at the time :)
Does one need a permit now?
Nope. You do for the Clearwater and parts of the Salmon, but not on the Lochsa.
i balance it with the it was one hella price i had to pay to get up here bit
…to which you are uniquely entitled.
Nic Robertson(CNN) was just reporting from near the Gaza border… The IDF is still refusing to allow Journalists into Gaza… Despite the Israeli Supreme Court ruling that they’re allowed to…! Asshats…!
South Fork of the White River, 8,000 feet…snowed in after November until June. But under neath those williows when it thaws after the runoff there are some bodacious Trout.
Hiya, pups. Minus 19 F, calm and really bright stars tonight, outside of Wasilla, Alaska.
I stopped smoking tobacco on Christmas, and have gotten over the first hump.
Thank you kindly, sir. Sounds just my speed, class 2-3.
My sister lives in Missoula but doesn’t raft. She used to teach history and English for the World Class Kayak Academy, is afraid to get in a boat, go figure. She’s currently involved in a weird little business – moose poop incense.
CE – thanks for the review/warning. I like unsettling movies that stay with you and make you think. did you see Babel?
Hey, ET!
two words: liquorice altoids.
Congrats, ET! As I’m puffing on one as I type…!
I can’t remember if there are multi-day sections on the Lochsa or if it’s car camping. Do you know?
Oh ET, hang in there buddy! One week is hell, but you can do it if we could. 2003 was our last year.
hey et – i feel warmer in comparison
CT, that’s cruel.
Congrats, ET. For me, three weeks was the biggest challenge. I figured I’d got the physical part of the addiction licked, I could have just one, really.
Beautiful country.
Do you have the Oregon esprit de corps yet. Both state universities won their football bowl games…beavers and Ducks OSU and Uof O…notice I capitalized Ducks.
I quit once for almost three years. I even picked up a pack of cigarettes for the drummer in Intafada yesterday, and didn’t feel tempted to sneak one.
Practiced piano for three hours today to keep my mind off of ‘em, though. Scarlatti sonatas.
Mommybrain,
I kept an unopened pack in the back of my vanity drawer for two years (in case of bee stings, my doctor said to soak tobacco in water and apply to stings, worked once, but never happened again).
Keep on Digging in the Late Late Nite world
i’m still acclimating. no favorites in sports and i’m still trying to learn the actual lay of the land so i know where stuff is in relation to me.
Hey congrats! I quit (2-3 packs a day for 30 years) 12 years ago. Best thing I ever did (except for my son).
g’evening, Suze & pups! 6° above here in the upper Midwest, positively balmy compared to ET’s weather. Balmy as it is, however, i think i’ll still huddle inside with blanket and hot cider.
Sounds like a very Missoula business.
The patch helps detoxify…but you have the Itestinal fortitude no doubt. i had to quit 5 or 6 times before stopping permanatly 40 years ago.
My worst time was everynight at 11:00. Finally it just was gone.
hey neuro
ndfg! whazzup
i’m sitting over in the smokers corner with ct
Yeah, there are multiday sections. The rafting company I go with has half day, whole day, and multiday trips. Some of it depends on river conditions. This past year (we had an epic runoff), Jason said they had to float lower down the river than usual owing to timber jams.
I’m using patches. Put the last one on 26 hours ago.
Your cold gone?
Now that your stess levels are down you may follow Et’s leadership. CT is in all kinds of stress.
Hey! NDFG!
Daddybrain and I are having fun reminiscing about the trip. I can’t remember if it was off the Lochsa, but on one of our hikes to hot springs we saw a sign that said:
Caution, nude hikers may be encountered along this trail.
We didn’t but were ready.
I think 2004 or 2005 was my last year. I had to be hospitalized for pneumonia for 4 days, and just never had the desire after I got out. Very effective quit-smoking program!
That is Lolo Hot Springs in the pass above the Lochsa. Sign is till, there, as are the nude hikers (even this time of year).
yes, thank goodness. It was a nasty bug that a lot of people got.
i used to be a smoker … i always said it was easy to quit, i’d done it dozens of times. The last time i quit was before i got pregnant with my oldest (26-1/2 yrs ago) and what kept me quit was that all thru that pregnancy, whenever i got within 50 feet of a lit cigarette, i got violently sick. Talk about negative conditioning. Same thing during my second pregnancy. Smoking kinda lost its appeal.
Oh Margot, that is exactly what happened to my boss. And after he was so pure, we just, “had to do it” — bless him. MrCE to this day curses the decades we lost smoking.
Time for me to go to bed. Take care all and enjoy thought of a Bushless year to come.
when i had my tkr i was hospitalized for 5 days. not an urge the entire time i was in the hospital (i think the morphine had a lot to do with that) and was doing well for my first couple of hours home — but then there was some drama involving my caretakers and well, i caved.
hey in Larry Craig country anything goes…G)
Hi NDFG, so glad to see you!
g’nite dr dick
Nite, DrDick. Thanks for all the memories!
Heh, AC 360 is showing several clips of Nic lying down behind cars on the road while air raid sirens are wailing in the background…!
g’night, drD
*waves hi at CE & Margot*
Aloha, Dr. D!
Bushless New Year to one and all!
Nite.
g’nite mmb
Great to see you!
Aloha, mb!
Everybody’s snoring loudly at the Beach Haus, eh? ;-)
nite doctor
nite m/brain
i’m sure some pups are still recovering from their celebrating last nite.
tonight i was looking fondly at my Obama/Franken button. I am getting so friggin sick of the endless *sshattery that is Norm Coleman.
i tiptoed out so’s not to wake anyone *g*
I’ve scheduled a loud wake up thread for ‘em in the morn… Quiet Riot, Ozzy, and Metallica…! Meanwhile, I’ll still be fast asleep…! ;-)
Nite all — damn, I have to work at 9:00 and I’ll be all the sorry at it.
Aloha, CE!
g’nite christine e
Tomorrow nite I’ll be up the mountain (hopefully)…!
g’night Christine!
CT, good thing i sleep with earplugs! (2nd shift staple, yanno)
Aloha CT dear!
Nite, Suz and NDFG. See you all tomorrow, err, today!
fingers and toes crossed for ya dood
The contrast of damage in Gaza and in the vid from cnn is so off of the map. Am emergency room in Isreal with nothing to do…versus huge crowds milling around bombed out apartments with people sitiing with no walls.
Unbeleivable spin…glad CNN has it. Do the other networks? I don’t do TV.
Nite Mommybrain and Christine.
I only watch MSNBC or CNN, and MSNBC has only been showing a marathon of ‘Lockup’… So, hard to say…!
nite all
Aloha, neuro!
g’nite neuro
America is the last to know…surprise surprise.
What a different the world this would be with an unbiased news media…instead it is spin spin spin. Sigh
Besides Gaza, these are ominous starts to the new year…
And…
same fuckery – new year same as the old year? i can’t forking wait for the inaugural
Now, watch this BBC video Pakistan suspends supplies for Afghans…
Now, read this… US readying south Afghan surge against Taliban
How the f*ck are we gonna supply the Surge…?
time for this farmgrrrlll to try and get some sleep. G’night, pups.
those daring young men in their flying machines? it makes no forking sense so of course boosh is doing it
g’nite ndfg
Aloha, NDFG!
That’ll cost a very pretty penny if everything needs to be airlifted in…! *gah*
af has been begging for something to do…
Evening all. I too can’t wait for the inaugural.
Friend who thinks me too skeptical about Obama gave me Audacity of Hope for Christmas. So must read it – now is probably the time.
hey sunny
CENTCOM masterful logistics like the last one. Contractors, graft and corruption what else?
Good night.
Well, my ‘hair of the dog’ remedy from last nite’s festivities is running on fumes… I shall bid a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Hiya, Sunny. Just got back from practicing piano for an hour.
nite tuttle
i’m bailing out too
aloha ct
hey et
g’nite newton
hiya, Suzanne. Friggin’ cold outside – minus 17 F, which is a little warmer than two hours ago.
Hi et.
Best of luck with your quit smoking effort. Need to do the same here.

time for me to head out pups. g’nite all and thanks for hanging out with me tonight.
29 here and the bed beckons. Nite excellent pups.
Attaturk is upstairs!
How profoundly thoughtful of you to make a death threat
