What’s all this about Burress for Senate? I don’t understand it, and I’m against it!
First of all, what has football got to do with making laws? Oh, I know, some of you will tell me that football has a lot of laws. I suppose it does. I mean, there’s illegal use of the hands. But then, we don’t need any more Mark Foley pervert or Rick Warren busybody type laws. And catching passes doesn’t make you a senator, no sir. Most senators I’ve ever heard of are always making passes, not receiving them. I mean, look at them!
And then, who carries a gun into a club like that? Plaxico Burress would have to be patted down every time he goes through one of those scanner things on Capitol Hill. And what if he insults Jim Webb on the Senate floor? It would be a shoot out, a bloodbath, Wild West! That’s hardly appropriate for the United States’ Senate, I can tell you. And Burress is up on charges and may go to jail, and Senators are not supposed to be indicted until AFTER they serve some time in office, as everybody knows!
And another thing. . .
"Um, Pach, that’s Roland Burris, not Plaxico Burress, and it’s Illinois, not New York."
– The Editors
Oh. . .
That’s different, then.
Nevermind.
Happy New Year!

Got a ton of books to finish in the next 40min to stay competitive in the
Bush-Rove challenge.
Aw, WTF, it’s pushing 21 degrees and I’d rather be here in pupdom.
i think if you just read the nytimes book reviews and comments you will have boosh beat. ya know he never reads the comments – just the reviews (/s)
He only reads the first paragraph of the reviews. Then his lips get tired.
I doubt anyone could have read all those books in a year with a full time job I don’t recall reading that much in college when I was assigned to read stuff.
Maybe an Atlas would have been a good book for Bush to read Iraq is here and Ossama is in Pakistan!
Timely post, Pach.
Are we there, yet?
(Bunch a folk “poppin’ off” off here, in sultry Pittsburgh …)
Anybody wanna buy a used year? Real cheap? Gonna be ‘historic’. And the odds are; it’s never to be repeated*
How ’bout a bunch of 8’s? Never used …
Okay.
Well, then … Happy New Year to all and to all a good night’s sleep (whenever ya git ‘there’).
*Unless the Sunstein Doctrine allows a rerun …
;~DW
It’s not the reading. It’s the sippy-cup.
The trouble with the French is that they have no word for “reveue.”
All visible from Palin’s front porch, BTW.
Wait I know Bush read the books on tape while on his exercise bike. Naw that can’t be it if he had read any books he would have learned something.
I have generally read at least 3-4 books a week (or the equivalent in academic articles) since I was about 13. At my peak in graduate school it was about 4-5, easily. Then again, that is what I get paid to do.
g’nite dw – hny
Night. Awake to a brand new day and a brand new year!
HNY DW!
Sarah needs an Atlas too When Putin comes to America he flies over Alaska? Yeah right Moscow to Paris then Paris to Washington why fly over the north pole refuel in Alaska then refuel in Seattle to get to Washington?
Happy New Year!! (well in about 30 mins) :)
I got a new book from Amazon today. “Parrot-Toys & Play Areas: How To Put Some Fun Into Your Parrot’s Life.” Chock full of practical and cheep suggestions.
time zone challenged here on the west coast – still have the whole forking evening ahead of me before i can finally get outta 2008
I am my cats’ favorite play area and toy. Of course the whole house and everything in it is their play area and toy.
:)
I am only an hour ahead of you here in the Mountain Zone.
When my brother in law was stationed in Taiwan back in the ’60s the preferred route to and from included a stopover in Alaska. It was actually shorter that way.
Its not impossible but has Bush shown any gain in intelligence since he got in office? Plus he has a fulltime job 2 wars that he is losing and an economy going in the tank.
I don’t want GOP historians to say Bush read while America was in trouble it might set kids against reading.
Hmmm will any historian take the Bush read over 100 books claim seriously I doubt even Bob Woodward would buy that claim.
we get to watch everyone elses celebrations before we get to do some celebrating ourself
Happy New Year to all!
Bless us every one!
Our pets own us.
I don’t think Bush has read a book a year in his entire adult life (whenever that begins).Even if he had the intellectual ability to do so, he certainly lacks the intellectual curiosity and dedication to do so.
Taiwan is a little closer to Alaska than Moscow if you are trying to get to Washington.
And they let me know it at every opportunity.
Happy New Year Firedogs!!!!1111
RRRRRAAAAAWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!11111
You might recall as First Lady Babs Bush made literacy her pet project. I’ve often wondered if her dyslexic son provided the inspiration.
Dang, Late to the party…! Happy New Year, altho, I’ve still hours to go…! Dang, there’s only one more time zone after mine…! ;-)
Happy New Year Pups may you all have a wondrous and peaceful New Year!
Oh! I did Digg this Post!
Happy New Year to you, tw3k.
I think everyone in Government should read and be tested on what they read
http://oxdown.firedoglake.com/diary/2469
If you don’t stay current on issues how can you vote on them?
Flying from Moscow to anywhere on the east coast, you would go over Greenland and Quebec, not Alaska.
hey things, i forget, you the pup into solar panels?
Which is kind of why I read so much. You cannot teach it if you do not stay current. Good thing I have always liked to read.
Unless wrong-way McCain is the pilot, in which case you could have a stopover just about anywhere.
Me and Nahant:)
Heh, I’m feeling good, DU, has my submission headlined above the fold… One commenter said; ‘He liked my attitude…’ ;-)
Government officials should read as much as teachers or they should get paid less than them.
Hey CT,
NOT late to the party — we’ve just begun. Snow here, and very cold at 19 F. We LOVE it like this here (at least I do).
When I was a cigarette smoker, I read that much. It has certainly taught me about the concentrating power of nicotine, being without it for several years, that is.
This one could have been written for all the fine people who populate the Lake:
Happy New Year, pups!
Probably go by way of Antarctica.
Very very happy drive-by New Year best wishes to all Late Nite & Late Late Nite denizens! Thank you all for your surpassing company this past year — can’t wait to muddle through this next one with your assembled help…
Now be excellent to one another tonight!
That is lovely.
Haven’t noticed any difference since I quit almost 13 years ago and I was a 2-3 packs a day guy.
Ah, right. I knew it was part of the cali late nite crew. e-mail me: tw3k dot net @ gmail
I’d like to ask you some Qs about it.
Back around 1980 when most of my friends were students we had a lot of common literary references. Despite being from different backgrounds, there were books most of us had read before we met. Is that still the case with students today, or do they have too many diversions during their formative years to read books?
Happy New Year to you as well!
Yup solar panels are working just great… turning the meter backwards almost every day! Even this time of year when the day is so short.
kewl!
Happy New Year to you, Waccamaw and anyone else I may have missed.
I am not really sure what they are reading. Mostly they only talk to me about what I make them read. I am rather notorious for making students read a lot (100-120 pages a week for an upper division class).
plz email me too
Hmmm, that is so nice to read. And, yes, let’s be excellent to one another.
Total cloud cover? Whats worse cloud cover or cold temperature ?
Hey Dr Kirk how are you doing? Happy New Year to you!
Keep up the fight against the pollution that plagues us Via Big Business! Love reading your posts.
Seattle crew:)
Happy New Year to you and everyone. I’m so glad we made it!
That’s a fair amount to absorb if it is content intensive. Especially if they are simultaneously texting their friends.
Cloud cover. We do still get some wattage out of the system even in the rain.. not much but still around 1000+ watts during the rain.
Wasn’t that a Kentucky Derby winner?
D’oh
i feel like i should be wearing a tshirt that say’s i survived the boosh years
I’m slowly implementing sod roofing. Really ought to clean those gutters…
Alright you right coasters… Hau’oli Makahiki Hou…!!!
Better wait 20 days. No need to tempt fate.
Whats the question can’t you ask here if I don’t know something we always have the rest of the lake to help answer.
Bill and Hill partaking in a dance…! ;-)

Hey nahant – thanks for showing us the way and the light! How you and your family? Hope the New year is great for you and everyone here.
That only happens in my lower division classes and yeah, it is very content intensive.
Ouch! sounds like the rental behind us. It gets all the droppings of a really big Walnut! Flat roof and it goes green every winter with sprouts!
