Of course Wal-Mart releases this info in the middle of the night when no one is paying attention. Well, I’m doing some work with WakeUpWalmart.com this holiday season to give back, and I’m going to keep putting the pressure on the Bentonville behemoth to make sure that this is the norm, and not the exception.

WalMart is so opposed to unions that one successful unionization vote in one store’s meat department in 2000 spurred them to shut down every meat department in any store that had them and go with prepackaged meat across the board.

They’re creeps and these settlements don’t change that.

I am not interested in a return to a Clintonesque 90’s economy. Sure, it was better than the 80’s and 00’s (a blind monkey throwing darts at HBS case studies could select better economic strategy than Republican presidents), but DLC Bill put the skids under working America (NAFTA, repealing Glass-Steagall).

I prefer a return to the 60’s, when working hard and playing by the rules damn near guaranteed a reasonable existence.

EFCA will do more to restore us than any other likely legislation.

As a result, Money Wing Democrats (thank you Sirota!) will scuttle EFCA unless Obama pulls out the stops (and how committed will Rahm be?).

My mother’s best friends from high school were married in the early ’50s. I’m not sure if either one of them graduated.

One worked for a dairy and the other was a checker in a grocery store. They lived with gusto, new cars every few years, vacations every year, put four sons through college, built a vacation home in Lake Tahoe, and retired — not wealthy, but definitely upper, upper middle class.

Those were union jobs they had.
