UN Security Council calls for immediate halt to Gaza violence
morning elliot.
good to see that, from the list of guests, the crisis in gaza is going to get good coverage on the network news programs this morning. /s
morning selise, yeah I don’t see any changes in the line-ups to match the escalating violence. During the news last night NBC mentioned it as a topic for MTP but no change in guests.
Good Morning, The Matthews family has no real news…but interesting and pretty fun. The year’s Heroes chosen = the “voters” who wanted change, also the troops, along with their families.
Let’s just bring the troops home. I’m ready for the “hell No, I won’t go” crowd.
yes, can’t believe the day isn’t here all ready that the streets aren’t crowded.
Morning everyone. I see Condi issued her pro-Israeli comment. This is all the fault of Hamas. Personally, I think Americans are going to start to turn against Israel. But, who knows? I thought that during the Lebanon bombings.
Won’t be sticking around this morning. After a week of cooking and being a hostess, Mr. Solai and I are sneaking off to the local casino for some gambling and dinner (don’t tell Ian).
may your pockets come back loaded
Morning doggies,
Are you implying that they load up at the buffet tables??? ;-))
i don’t wish for the american public to simply change who they consider the enemy – imo, we need to get past the white hat / black hat thing and try to deal with the real world without blinders and with compassion.
think i’m going to make some pancakes or something…..
Should I call C-SPAN this morning to ask if it’s okay to use the term, “Magic whitey cracker” when referring to a republican from now on?
I was thinking more from the blackjack tables, smartypants
mMMmm chocolate chip pancakes!
oh, now there’s a thought. i keep thinking i should make them again then forget. hmmm…. must find the recipe.
who’s michelle singletary? she’s on MTP. if she’s on MTP I’m sure I’ve seen her. can’t place the name.
French toast is always good.
La Presse is a french newspaper in montreal, they have a blog held by a correspondant in Washington. He posted about Israel’s attack. More than 500 responses in less than 24 hours.
Three totally different dynamics are present.
You have those who condemn the attack, who have no idea what is really happening there.
Then there’s the extremists, looking for any victory, at any cost. Totally pro Israel, these folks condone violence, demand it too.
And then you have the fact rich environment of the linkers, people who have no opinion, who really don’t care, as long as Google is searching.
All in all, it’s a bloody freak show.
michelle singletary
you’ve seen her before
i have a certain amount of ambivalence about indulging in comfort food in response to the “bloody freak show” but for any other hedonists, here is my recipe (google is my friend):
when i see her what will i say to my TV? “Asshole”? “She’s cool”??
Double dare ya.
Meyer Lansky said blackjack was the only game you have a chance to come out ahead.
What does separating the eggs do?
LOL Earlier I was thinking of doing it, but now that I’m out of the shower, it’s not the subject now. Dammit.
My personal french toast.
Three eggs
milk
a dash of 35% cream
Butter
cinnamon
Thickly sliced bread
Mix wet ingredients
Melt a dollop of butter, and introduce it slowly in the batter.
Pan at medium
Dip bread in butter, I like to give it time, so the mixture saturates the slice
On said slice, sprinkle some cinnamon, and put that side on the heat. Sprinkle virgin side with cinnamon.
Serve with Québécois maple syrup.
Enjoy.
I wish someone would stuff a sock in Bob Corker’s mouth.
What is it with these neandrathal TN congress critters??? (she asks, thinking of the fool distributing “Barack The Magic Negro”)
~itunkala
ooops, dip bread in batter…
That’s pretty much the way my mom, who was from Ohio, made it.
you can whip the separated egg whites and then, by folding (not stirring) them in, the batter is very light.
I did not read the full post, but….eggs whites not separated will not beat, per my mother.
Oh gak, Laura for the full hour on fox snooze sunday.
Morning, folks; it’s 46 degrees (wowee!!) in my part of Upstate New York this morning – the January thaw came early.
Well, SD, please send me outta here. It’s my turn to go corrupt precious little minds. Cheers.
O Dear: Is that Ingraham? I really hope not….she is not healthy for one’s mind, outlook, spirit of kindness.
Wherabouts in upper NY?
It’s 35 degrees in Montréal, we had freezing rain all day yesterday. Sidewalks are so dangerous, everyone is walking in the street.
Michelle Singletary frequently appears on NPR talking about money issues. I think she writes a column in the WaPo called “The Color of Money.”
South of Syracuse
285+ already killed among the “militants”…
My grandma made biscuits and cornbread from scratch but made pancakes and waffles with Bisquick. For pancakes she added a little more milk to make a slightly thinner batter. She always made silver dollar pancakes. They were quick, had a crispy edge and were delish. I follow in her footsteps.

Namaste, RevBev. Give out a message of peace and compassion this mornin’. We can use it.
That said, I’m gonna try your recipe. Without the chips.
You’ve got it….the news is even filled with all that family/domestic violence. What is happening to us? Cheers and Later, friend.
Haven’t driven 81 since the eighties.
Good Morning all, Companies is all gone, wonderful time with kids and grandkids. This morning for breakfast – open two packets of instant oatmeal pour in bowl, heat water, pour in and stir.
thanks
Heh..it’s still there :) Along with all the weather quirks.
This thing in LA is a real tragedy. Looks like the guy pretty much wiped out the entire family.
Wallace asks Pickles about the shoe toss
“it was an assault”
She still talking fantasy Afghanistan
Laura Bush wasn’t amused by the shoe throwing.
I wish someone would surgically remove it. :-(
“if saddam was still there, he wouldn’t have been released.”
I didn’t realize he had been released
She’d be even less amused if al-Zaidi had thrown a strike and bloodied Shrub’s nose. Damn.
“george and i talk about different things. we talk about the press, we talk about people inside the white house, we talk about people outside the white house”
Laura Bush has some real delusional issues going about her husband – that’s the only reason I can think of that she has stayed with him this long and through all of this stuff. That..or the ready accessibility to drugs…
nor did i
It’s called enabling.
But no one outside the bubble.
We’ll have to compare cornbread recipes one of these days. :-)
Anyone have a recipe for cornbread that calls for adding dried corn? I dried a whole lot of corn this summer and now…..what to do with it???
Or both.
Laura feels bad about hurricane Katrina.
Newscaster last night, seen on the fly, mentioned 3 parties in the Gaza situation: Israel, the Bush Administration, the incoming Obama administration.
Glaring omission, anyone?
I don’t see her Cryin’ a River
It would be sort of heartening to think that in the morning, when she looks in the mirror, she says to herself, “One more day until the pain is over” except that I really don’t think she feels that way. I do believe(enabling, drug induced or bought off)she believes that being president was a good thing for Georgie to do – like bike riding, or becoming Christian, or getting off the bottle(which he is back to publicly now).
so soon
Then she blamed it on the Press. Bad reporting, Katrina never happened.
1 cup organic corn meal
1 cup organic white flour
1/4 cup sugar – I use turbanado
4 tspn baking powder
3/4 tspn salt
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/4 melted shortening or oil – I use peanut oil
Mix dry incredients. Mix wet incredients and the egg. Combine and stir/beat until smooth. Bake at 425 for 25-30 minutes, the outside edge should be a little brown. I use a pie dish but a cast iron skillet works too.
I’ve tried that and never liked it.
Wallace – “mrs bush, is there anything you want to get off your chest after the last 8 years?”
L Bush – “you mean about the press?”
Well, if I can’t find anything to do with it, there are going to be some very happy birds this winter :)
1/4 cup melted shortening or oil. Left the cup out.
twolf – I don’t have tv or cable so I’m not watching this — did Wallace REALLY SAY ‘get off your chest’? Holy s**t – what a crude thing to say.
There’s a book recently out called American Wife: A Novel that is an attempt to deconstruct how she could have gone from her liberal Democratic youth to her current state of being.
yes, he did
You could get a couple flat rocks and make yer own corn meal. *g*
Watched a bit of MTP earlier. More and more the gasbag shows are sounding dog-and-pony…here’s my leading question, you filibuster your answer now and I won’t bat an eye at the spin…..
hehehehee…..no. I know I have the reputation here for being all about ‘the diy’ stuff, but there is a line there. That’s like someone once asking me, “I want a sweater – what breed of sheep should I get?”
First time in ages that I’ve been here on a Sunday morning. Oh so nice to have the day off.
Elliot, ygm.
The whole Israel Palestine situation makes me bereft. I remember in the early 90’s when there was real movement towards peace and attending a joint community worship service with Jews and Arabs attending in a synagogue in Portland OR. It was so hopeful. It seemed like a miracle. Now it all seems like a mirage.
Palin apparently did not have the power to appoint a senator. No one here was sure if she could, or not. It should come as no surprise that Palin didn’t know either.
http://www.themudflats.net/200…..ittle-odd/
ah, then you have an extra and magical ingredient – rooted in the memory and love of of your grandma.
Wow. Now we know where all the rumors are coming from! I knew there was another reason why I didn’t like those two.
There’s never going to be peace as long as the ruling elites in Israel want all of Palestine. They can deny it til the sun falls from the sky but their actions expose the lie of their words.
Thanks RevD
it is nice to see you here this morning *s*
Wallace now interviewing Israeli Foreign Minister
the flour is key – fresh white whole wheat. i use king arthur flour (trader joes carries it). it has to be fresh because like regular red whole wheat flour it can go rancid.
She cared so little that she thought it was hurricane Corina.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..038;fmt=18
I can still see her in that little kitchen, six things goin’ at once. All those nice old ceramic serving dishes… Simpler, more peaceful days.
But no one speaking for Palestine?
Good morning RevD
Got your message this am. I was away from the phone last night, let me have some coffee and breakfast, I’ll give you call in about an hour if that’s ok.
Shoot! Don’t have mine on computer.
Differences:
3/4 C. flour
2 t. b.p.
3/4 C. milk
1/4 C. butter
2 T. white sugar (you make corn*cake*) *G*
Prefer an 8″X8″ pan.
Sunday is my food shopping day. The KA site says Publix carries it and I’m gonna find out. Do you think it’s better than organic?
Hey, guys…twolf has some Obama Cabinet niftiness upstairs…
Laws only apply to democrats
Wheeeeeeez, and I thought *I* was anal retentive. LOL
I don’t use the sugar but the recipe calls for it and some folks like the sweeter taste. Honey on hot corn bread makes it sweet enough for me.
CNN reporter from some Middle School [guess they tore down the phony farm set already] in Crawford, TX saying White House is in “wait and see” mode re the Gaza situation.
Translation: Georgie’s on vacation and he’s still hung over.
Apparently..time and time, again.
I’m around, for a change. Have house cleaning to do and some computer upgrades to figure out. That should fill the whole day.
…or getting off the bottle(which he is back to publicly now).
I haven’t heard this, except in snide comments on blogs. Is there any proof he is actually off the wagon?
And how is that any different from how he’s spent the last 8 years?
Heh..my answer was: If you want a sweater, go get a sweater. There will be no sweater on earth that will end up costing you what buying, feeding, housing, shearing, etc. etc. a sheep, then knitting a sweater will cost.
oops…that was for you foothillsmike
Yes, I’m afraid so – there are a lot of photos around in the news from when he was in his last economic trip to Peru, and he was drinking Pisco Sours…
Great, talk to you soon.
Good morning all you early pups.
Such a fine post you provide every Sunday, Elliott. Although I don’t know how you all do this without shooting your television.
I always add vanilla to my french toast recipe.
And I always pour the oil in the bottom of a cast iron skillet… heat it in the oven… then pour rest of cornbread batter on the hot oil to bake for a wonderful crust.
These pictures show a drunk Bush at the Olympics.
http://gawker.com/5035885/bush…..e-olympics
i don’t disagree with you very often, but i think i do now.
when do the ruling elites of ________ (fill in the blank) ever want to give up power?
but there are other levers – not saying any of them will work, but they do exist. there could be a change of heart among the israeli public (this one imo is going in the wrong direction). there could be a change of heart among the american public (i’ll leave you to judge that one). there could be a change in the way the palestinians resist – for example, a few years ago gandhi’s grandson called for a mass march of refuges (from jordan, lebanon, etc in the spirit of his grandfather’s salt march) to demand the right of return to israel in order to precipitate the crisis nonviolently.
A la Utah Phillips.
oh waa waa waa
Caroline Kennedy and Sarah Palin the same except that everyone is swooning over Caroline but they mocked the noble Palin
-shorter bill sammons
howdy revdeb. hoping good things for you and mr. rev.
Hmmm….I read somewhere that Laura told him (years ago), “It’s me or the booze.” I wonder if a divorce or separation is in the offing after he’s out of office?
OTOH, she’s put up with him this long….
We’ve lots of interests in common: textile arts, gardening, food prep.
It’d be kind of fun to actually figure out what that sweater *would* cost….however many years it takes to grow a sheep (breed differences affect fleece quantity) to produce enough for one sweater – adding vet bills to the mix. *g*
Michele Singletary: Bush’s economic legacy is selfishness…he should be ashamed of what he has left us.
MTP Panel conversation keying off VF Feb issue article. Must buy that issue.
No hay bales.
Toby – obviously 114’s for you.
LOL!
my aim is so good now that I just shoot through the holes all ready there.
that sounds like some mighty fine cornbread
We raised Tunis, Dorsets, and Romneys and in general, with those breeds(they are ranged from coarser wools to really nice ones), you could get two adult sweaters out of one fleece a year.
wrt to gregory’s interview with Axelrod:
Because it can never be said too often – gregory is an @ ss!
Mr. Rev went off to a friend’s church this morning. He feels the need to go and it’s better he not show up at my church without me on my day off. It’s the first time I haven’t been there on a Sunday since his surgery in mid Oct. On my other days off they always scheduled meetings I needed to be at. On my next day off is a congregational meeting and new member pot luck. Oh well. They are good people and I’m glad to be here.
But today I clean house and play with new macbook. Got it in Oct. and other than transferring stuff, haven’t had a chance to work through some of the new software. Nor have I had a chance to leave it alone long enough to have it go through the backup cycle fully to save everything to the time capsule. Gotta do that soon!
Long-sleeves? Wow! didn’t realize one fleece would equal that much yarn. How long has it been since you had a flock?
There is that.
His guest panel far outshone him this morning. Even Lowry.
Maybe that’s the plan.
You’re technically correct. It’s going to take a change of mindset of the majority of the Israelis. After the British allowed immigration into Palestine as a result of the Balfour Declaration the British could not stop the continuing influx of Jewish immigrants into the region, even though the original plan was only for some 30,000 immigrants (I’d have to look up the number to be sure it’s right) to be admitted into the Palestinian Mandate. From the beginning the immigrants wanted to dispossess the Palestinians. Ben Gurion has been quoted as saying he wanted an Arab free Israel. This mindset saw the birth of Irgun and Haganah. The British gave up when they could not stop what they called the terrorism of those two groups. When Israel gained it’s independence Haganah became the IDF. As long as the people of Israel support Likud and its vision there will be no peace.
my 123 was a reply to waccamaw@120
We sold out after the last dog-attack we had in 2001. After staying up all night with the vet, the DH, the vet and I all looked at one another and made the decision that if a 6′ electrified fence was not going to stop two pure bred Huskies whose negligent owners would not keep them locked up, then it was time. Those dogs had been picked up three times in that week. The dog warden asked us if we wanted them put down – and we refused because it’s NOT the dogs fault. It’s the owners. If we had them put down, then the owners would just have gone out and gotten more dogs and behaved teh same way.
Here’s the AP on the interview with dearest laura: Mrs. Bush: Bush presidency not a failure
fantasyland
My way or the hiway to the end
Many years of anti-depressants will do that.
Nyah, nyah, nyah…because…I SAY so. Sorry, Laura — you can’t respond to people who feel your husband’s administration have been a failure because…you have nothing to say.
As far as the neocons are concerned the only thing Shrub failed at was destroying the government.
Mrs Likud AIPAC on Meet The Press.
Somebody should give her a set of sharp red horns to wear.
failed at? I thought he did a pretty thorough job of it.
Not being a particularly nice person, I would have requested the dog owners be put down. :-(((
The other thing is this – what do people EXPECT her to say? She’s married to the guy. He’s been embarrassing her for what – 30 years and now she has to leave DC and go back to Texas and deal with him again. It’s sort of silly of anyone to expect for her, in a public venue, to say, “Well, they’re right; my husband is a drunk and a failure. We tried really hard with him but he’s been a bonehead forever – our goal was just to get him through the 8 years and we were able to do that. Sure, the country and world has suffered, but so what…our goal was just to get him through this and we DID, so from that standpoint, we feel very successful..” No one expects that sort of candidness from Mrs. “no wrinkles in my forehead”.
So she will be talking to herself and W then. Good thing she’s pickled.
have fun with your new mac. you’ve reminded me that i haven’t done a back up of my ibook since before the ice storm. better do that today!
He didn’t finish the job. To the neocons that’s a failure.
Since W is so nice and sweet in Laura’s eyes, maybe they could do a road show Pickles and Ice Cream.
time will tell whether he did or did not finish the job. The jury is still out IMO.
Heh..not one of the choices, but the Dog Warden did require them to pay the vet’s bill, which as I recall, ran something like $750. If we’d lost any of the sheep or lambs afterwards, he was going to require them to pay us full market value for those as well, but we lucked out, were able to get the girls to birth their lambs well, feed them well and were able to go to market with all of them. We miss them of course, but that experience really ended our livestock raising, at least from a ‘out in the pasture grazing’ sort. We’re thinking seriously about getting back into chickens and turkeys again.
Their first tour should be in the Middle East.
who is “Mrs Likud AIPAC?” i can think of lots of people who might qualify. i’m gonna try to watch mtp when it starts in about 20 min.
Getcher Credit Default Swaps..Getcher Credit Default Swaps — upstairs…
Need to wait for that Turkish shoe factory to make delivery on all those orders first.
Most of the orders came from Europe and the US is what I’ve read.
Was tempted to ask about whether they were held monetarily responsible for their irresponsibility and good to hear that they were…but it sure as hell didn’t compensate you or your animals for the trauma.
There’s a woman not too far from here who has an herb farm and this year she got some heirloom turkeys – one tom and three females and the coloration is different on all the females; they are soooo beautiful. She also has some of the chickens that produce colored eggs and will sell them if enough have been collected. They all roam free in her gardens and help her grow organic. She is out in the woods with no fencing and I’ve been amazed no wild animals or dogs have gotten to the turkeys…….come to think of it, she may pen them at night; never thought to ask.
Yes ES, I had forgotten that, as I was doing this from memory.
I went to see Chimpy’s wife talking to Wallace, fell asleep after ten minutes. She is not the brightest bulb on the planet…
I’d like to see someone ask, on the record, why the Isarelis are turning Gaza into the second coming of the Warsaw Ghetto. (Yes, I think that it should be described that way.)
